I'll start off by saying I've been going on the Infinite Discs website and reading the reviews and buying discs for the past 2-3 years, and this is the first time I've finally felt inclined to write a review (sorry). That in itself should tell you something about how I feel about this disc. I've only been throwing it for the past two months or so but I can already tell you this disc has changed my game more so than any other disc I've ever thrown other than maybe my Firebirds. I already bag 2 of them, an Elite Z and Soft X plastic (soft X is a great new addition to Discraft by the way!). In regards to the disc profile, I absolutely love the flat and thin profile of this disc; if you are someone who doesn't like big profile discs, especially for flicks, this feels outstanding when you grip it. Very shallow.
All I do with this disc is forehand it, but man I can whip this thing full torque up to 275 feet (maybe 300 on a really good throw) and it is DEAD LASER BEAM straight with a reliable soft fade at the end. I never have to worry about turning it over, and I don't have to worry about it crashing hard at the end of flight so I get the best of both worlds- reliable stability with full control. This is as true of a point and shoot disc that I've ever had. I have already birdied a few holes I've never gotten before and would be ecstatic just getting par using this disc. One hole at a course I play a lot is a hard tunnel shot about 265 feet, tennis courts with fence and OB on the right and woods and a nasty hillside on the left that I used to just pray I wouldn't turn over and go down the hill (which usually means an automatic 4) and I've parked it the last three times in a row just throwing the Zone right down the middle. Yesterday at league I made a 100 foot straight uphill approach shot for the birdie using this disc and I've been close many other times; this thing is just so ridiculously accurate.
Getting the Zone is the best decision I've ever made; the fact it took me so many years before deciding to try it out is the worst decision I've ever made. I tried many other overstable putters for this type of shot over the years, and most of them did not have enough stability to prevent turning them over (e.g., Rhynos, Challengers, etc.). I would say the only disc that comes close to the Zone is the renowned Westside Harp, and while I don't feel like it's a bad disc by any means, the Zone wins for me based on two facts. First of all, I have been able to turn over a Harp, whereas I have yet to do that with a Zone. Secondly, the Harp just has a bigger profile where it doesn't feel quite as comfy when I grip it; I don't feel like I can get as tight and secure grip that I can with a Zone. In addition, I've already kicked two other discs out of my bag (DD Justice and the DGA Quake) because the Zone does the same thing for me as those two discs but with more precision and reliability. I have yet to use this in the circle as a putter other than practice, but I would not hesitate to pull it out for that purpose if there is a strong headwind; I just can't speak from experience yet in that regard. All in all, the Zone is an amazing disc off the tee and for approach shots (pretty much anything 275-300 feet and under) that will definitely be staying in my bag for as long as I play disc golf from here on out.
