The Wizard is a classic putter, one of the best putters on the market due to the huge number of plastic options available.  I find it very comfortable in the hand, not too deep and I don't find the bead to be too big.  I like a small bead on my putter so the Wizard feels very good.  I have a few different plastics but usually prefer to putt and throw the Super Soft.  It's not quite as soft as the name suggests, more like a tacky baseline plastic that has really good grip.  When putting I find the Wizard to be a little straighter and glidier than some other putters.  Some putters even inside circle 1 have some overstability to them which can be used to aim for the right of the chains and have the disc fade back into the basket.  For me the Wizard seems to just go straight at the basket, and is very responsive to a small flick of the wrist.  Great for a spin-style putt though I'm sure any putting style can make the disc work.

I also use the Wizard when throwing off the tee, I don't find it as overstable as its flight numbers suggest, though I'm sure there are some overstable Wizards out there if you find the right run and plastic.  I usually throw the disc on a little bit of hyzer and give it some height, and I get a very glidey and almost dead straight shot.  Very workable throwing putter that can hold a few different lines, though it doesn't have a lot of torque resistance so I usually throw something else if it's windy or I am throwing forehand.

The Wizard is a great disc for throwing and putting. It's reliably stable without being a meathook, and comes in Gateways awesome range of putter plastics. Mine is in SS which despite its name is pretty stiff.

Works well for putting too, but I'm not a fan of it's large bead, so I leaned more towards the Warlock, which is a similar disc by Gateway without the bead.

Oh the Wizard... the quirky putter with a cult following but at the end of the day... it's just a good putter. I like them in Super Soft. For those unfamiliar, I would say the Super Soft is not actually all that soft... it feels like a regular DX Aviar for instance or a BT Medium Harp. But it's nice and grippy on the approaches and fun a reliable straight putter. I would say the 2 fade is accurate though I don't use it as a throwing putter all that often.

This has been a great putter and thrower for me. This disc has the perfect feel and stability for me to throw nice smooth upshots. When throwing the wizard has a nice reliable small fade at the end. For putting I personally like softer putters like this one that can get a little beat up and grip the chains. It does have a bead so if you are a beginner I think this is perfectly fine it just might take a little bit to get used to. The wizard is a great putter for any skill level, definitely would suggest getting a few if you are looking to putt with them.

The Wizard is an enchanting beaded putter that has fully maxed out its Alteration, Mysticism, and Destruction magics. Hitting big putts on lower level opponents leaves them under a demoralization spell, and it also charms and rallies fellow players into wanting you as a doubles partner. You can also just outright obliterate everyone on the green. The secret: choose a putter that feels good and stick with it. Buy a stack from the same production run, and practice, practice, practice!

At the start of 2021, I moved from the Luna to the Wizard, mostly due to availability and price. I saw Paul McBeth snap one of his flippy Lunas in half during a tournament, which got me thinking, "why am I going to continue paying $18+ a disc for a rubber blend putter?" Switching putters requires some patience and practice, but after a couple months at Hogwarts, I am now putting better than I ever have!

So here's what I love about Gateway: they pump out putters, keeping them always available, and at the reasonable price of $11-$14 with some great hot stamps too! They have tons of plastics to choose from, and also do fun collaborations like runs in Reptilian plastics. I love Soft and Super Soft SureGrip plastic for putting, and Diamond plastic adds a touch more overstability and is great for throwing! SureGrip comes as S (also called Firm), SS, SSS, and SSSS, and the more rubbery the blend is with each added S. As SureGrip breaks in, it develops this velvety-chalk feel that makes me instinctively want to reach for my putter. Diamond plastic feels better than Z, Big Z, and Champion. I rank Diamond just under Kastaplast's K1 line for premium max durability plastic that also has great grippiness.

Finally for flight: the Wizard is a bit more OS than a Luna or Aviar out of the box. This putter goes dead nuts straight while it has speed, and then fades out for the last 5-10% of the putt when it slows. It is not a glidey putter, which is great for those with an aggressive putting style. Overstability and low glide help make sure bids don't end up 25+ feet on the opposite side of the basket. It is also torque-resistant, making it valuable as a throwing putter. Anything 200 feet and in, I will be throwing either a Wizard or Zone, depending on the line. Overall the Wizard has given me lots of confidence, which seems to be correlated with short-game success.

If you don't like beaded putters, just check out the Gateway Warlock, ya dingus! The Warlock is a beadless Wizard. Seriously, before going onto an auction site to pay some absurd amount for specific runs of putters, consider Gateway's current production runs. They may save your game lots of strokes and your wallet lots of dollars.

One of my criticisms of disc golf culture is the idea that there is an ideal putter for each person. Putting is an idiosyncratic part of the game, but I'm of the opinion that the putter you use matters much less than we tend to think. Good form, lots of practice, psychological comfort, and the favor of Fortuna matter so much more than the mold or plastic or weight or brand of your putter. I've tried lots of different molds, brands, and weights over the years and never found an ideal putter. The wizard is no exception.

I have been putting with wizards for over a year and the best I can say is that they are adequate. It won't magically take strokes off your putting game. If you putt it well, it well end up in the basket. The flight numbers are accurate. It is available in a huge range of plastics. If you know exactly what you like in a plastic, then they probably have one for you. If you're not sure, then it can be overwhelming. If you blame your poor putting on the plastic, you might end up cycling through 12 different discs and a bunch of cash before settling on one you like. Lots of people complain about inconsistency in Gateway plastic, but I've never found this to be so dramatic that it would significantly change someone's ability to putt with a certain disc (throwing might be a different story). The availability of these discs (especially over the last year) also makes them a valuable putter choice.

I have about 15 wizards in a bunch of different plastics. All are between 174-176 grams. In play, I only use two varieties. In the warmer months, I use the super soft plastic and in the colder months, I use the really freakin' flexible plastic. They all have a pretty flat top and a noticeable bead. When putting, the bead doesn't bother me. The nose is nice and round. If you are a "push putter," then you should know that they have a little fade. I tend to put more spin on my putts, and these go straight where you aim them. As a putting putter, there is nothing about them that is strange or bothersome. They check all the boxes. Beginners and advanced players alike will be able to putt with this disc.

I used to use them as an approach disc as well, but recently stopped because the bead was causing significant irritation to the skin on my index finger. They fly great though and fairly true to the numbers. Straight with little fade. Once they beat-in, they become really straight and will hold any line you put them on. As a throwing putter, a beginner may want something more understable.

The super soft wizard is a good all around putter.  The disc offers good grip in all conditions and helps instill confidence in the player.  Super soft and other soft plastic wizards grip the basket chains very well, and spit outs aren't a big issue with the wizard.  The wizard is a medium profile and beaded, and it feels good in the hand, although some people might not love the bead.  The wizard has medium glide (I am a push putter for reference).  The wizard is also a good thowing putter, although I prefer the envy.  When driven with, the wizard is fairly resistant to turn and glides with a slight fade at the end.  I don't actually drive with the wizard because I only own the supersoft and don't want to wear it in quicker than I have to, but I would suggest it in premium plastic.

Learning a hard learned lesson. I had 2 main putters that were completely different, the end result is pick one and master it. When you know you like a disc. Trust and develope the trust in it it may surprise you. I've rotated out a disc and rotated it back in, doesn't hurt to try again.

The wizard is one of my favorite putters that I've putted and thrown. I own it in both super soft and suregrip plastic and enjoy both of them greatly. I bag the super soft for up shots that I need to stick on slippery greens or for tee shots that I want to go extremely straight. As I have beat the disc in, it has become a great outside the circle putter and seems to have a lot of glide. Depending on your preference for feel, gateway produces many types of plastics that cater to everyone. This disc has improved my game immensely due to its point and shoot nature but still has the consistency that is missing from many straighter discs. I also have used this disc for putting and enjoy it for that as well but the I still cannot let go of my maiden for most putts, but if I had to choose another putter I would likely choose this disc.

If you are looking for a putter that gives you the best of both worlds, meaning driving and putting, then look no further because the Wizard is the disc for you. The Wizard feels great in the hand and comes in a variety of plastics so you can pick one that feels best to you and your game. As far as a driving putter this thing is awesome, pick a line to throw it on and it will hold it. This is easily Gateway's most popular disc and for good reason.

I started off with beadless Aviar-style putters, but really grew to love the Wizard once I gave one a try. The bead feels great in my hand, and helps give it a bit of over-stability. I carry both a SS and an SSS—they're more or less interchangeable imo, but depending on the conditions one may feel better to me than the other.

Great for putts of all distance and upshots. I'm not a great putter thrower, so hard to comment on the Wizard's suitability there.

I had this disc a long time ago. Plastic is grippy but firm in the SS. Super Soft isn't like other companies Soft. It's more firm really. I would say similar to a Trilogy Hard even. Flight was spot on more me with the numbers. Would not turn over unless a big wind and had a small reliable fade. I deduct a point only because I have heard the plastic can be inconsistent and I personally did not like the deeper feel of the disc. I have medium-large hands. But I like shallower feel.

I really like this disc and use it to practice my putting. My main putter is a prime judge and a crown when I need a little more stability than the judge can offer. This is a very good glidey putter that can fit any putting style. I'm more of a hybrid with some more spin tendency when need to and it fits that great. I have also thrown it off of the tee and you can get some easy distance for a putter due to the extra glide that it has. Doesn't take a lot ot get it going either if you use it as that or for upshots where I feel this is a very great disc for also. I'm giving it 4 instead of 5 stars just due to the fact it is a little too deep for me. I don't really care for a deep rim and I can tell its deeper than my judge or crown. If it wasn't I could very easily see myself bagging different plastics of the wizard for a lot of different shots from putting, upshots, and short drives.

Despite being called super soft, this plastic is firm with a little bit of give. This plastic has a smoother texture than soft plastic (at least in white or cream). Short of max power, this thing will hold any line or angle you put it on. When I drive with it, I get it to go between 250-300ft. The beat in ones turn a little, but the new ones go dead straight. Dead straight for up shots. Solid putter for putting too.

I had always read great things about the Gateway Wizard and finally got my hands on one this past week.

Super Soft plastic at 175g, feels great, throws great and is well worth the money. Chains love this thing. First time out with my wizard and I was bouncing this baby off the basket from 60 feet out in windy Murrieta. Cant wait to see how it performs once it gets worn in.

I have finally found my go to putter and i'll be ordering a few more for practice putts. This disc is quickly pushing my pro aviar and champ rhyno out of the bag.

OVERALL:  I bought a 175g Wizard in Super Soft plastic.  Overall, this is a great putter.  I mainly use it as an approach disc and, despite the soft feel of the Super Soft plastic, it has held up remarkably well.  It has a dependable fade at the end that allows you to prepare your putting lines with confidence.

FEEL/LOOK:  The Wizard feels great in the hand.  The rim has a great curve to it that fits right in the webbing between your thumb and index finger.  While I don't have an opinion in the beaded/non-beaded putter debate, the bead and the rim on the Wizard connect well to leave a good groove for your index finger.  The Super Soft plastic is somewhat misleading.  It's very grippy, feels great, and I haven't had any issues with the Super Soft plastic hitting the chains and not staying in the basket.  However, the disc itself is fairly stiff and not floppy like some other companies' soft plastic lines.  Personally, I love the combination of grip and firmness for putting that the Wizard SS offers.

PERFORMANCE:  As a putter, the Wizard works well.  It comes out of the hand well and glides on the longer puts.  It has a predictable fade at the end for longer puts.  I really enjoy this putter for approach shots as well.   I can throw it up to 250 ft and its extremely shapeable.  Only thing I didn't like about the Wizard Super Soft is that I don't always get the best spin on this disc coming out of the hand. I don't know why; most likely user error.

The Wizard is a tried and true proven putter with universal appeal.  Comes in more plastic types than any other putter so there will be a feel you will like somewhere in the mix.

The Wizard was my first putter and I ordered it in super soft plastic. I have tried other putters but I come back to the Wiz.  I like DD but they ripped off the Wizard design when they manufactured the Judge.  The two discs are nearly indistinguishable.

The plastic can be a little inconsistent.  Buy in person if possible.  Also "soft" means really hard.  I would not buy toilet paper from Gateway.z

My favorite plastic is supersoft.  Tacky but stiff.

Can't believe I forgot to post a review of this disc.  I've had my Supersoft Wizard for a few months.  The Supersoft material can vary from disc to disc, but mine is on the firm side, which I like.  The Wizard is a bit overstable for my in-the-circle putting, but it is very reliable and consistent for people who like an OS putter. (And once it seasons in, it's consistent for those who like straight putters.)  The grip is good and comfortable for me, including the bead.

Where the Wizard has done best for me is throwing for distance, as well as working on form.  It has a nice straight flight with some fade when fresh, and less fade when seasoned in.  It gets good distance as far as putters go, and doesn't get kicked around by mild or gusty winds as much as other putters.  Definitely a disc to have for an "all putter" round and/or when reliable throwing is needed on technical/wooded holes.

I got introduced to this disc in a very pecular way. I called and asked if I could get a flight chart from Gateway and they did me one better. Saying if I just payed for shipping they would throw a couple of discs in with my poster. So I sent just a little money(which i'm not disclosing for privacy reasons) and They sent me a Wizard, a Magic, Sabre, Element, Slayer, and Appachie and was I ever surprised. But the one true disc that really got me jacked is the Wizard. I dont put with anything else. I now have 3 Wizards. A Soft, SS, and a SSS. which the last 2 are my favorite. Jerry Garcia is on my SSS and the Bears are on my SS. My SSS has cut my score way down by holding a perfect flight right into the chains with never ever a bounce out. This disc is like glue to the chains. When I die this disc will be burried with me. Wizards are the best putters period!

This is the putter I use. I have tried some others and they just haven't felt or flown as well as my Wizard. I do, however, keep trying to change putters because I have a huge problem with this disc rolling. I've had more shots than I care to count now that hit the basket and ended up 30 feet away because it got up on it's side and found the slope. My other putters don't fly as well, but they don't roll as much either.
