A great fairway driver. Flies true to the numbers. Great into a headwind. The disc I reach for when I want to fly straight on both backhand and forhand for about 250 feet and then have it fade out.

Gosh I wanna like it so bad but just can't figure it out. Probably flick player who throws 400. Wanted the less stable firebird longer teebird shot but for me sometimes it was too stable sometimes I flipped it.

If you want a slight step down from a Firebird or similar very overstable 9 speed, I would absolutely recommend the Champion Thunderbird. I can always trust the disc to fade at the end of its flight, and even despite the overstability, the disc flies surprisingly far. Being an almost entirely backhanded player, the Thunderbird also taught me how to throw a forehand since it is incredibly hard to turn over. I might be adding a new star plastic Thunderbird to the bag soon to see how it compares.

I have 3 Champion Thunderbirds. Out of the box they are BEEF but eventually break in over time. A beginner will find a champ thunderbird fights to the ground like a firebird but an intermediate player will find this disc carries left and forward (RHBH throw). After a couple of years of use, the fade will turn into glide and this can become the furthest flying disc on one's bag.

I recently got a champion thunderbird and have been breaking it in. Brand new the disc has got some beef, and I was interchanging it with my Terra which has 8\5\0\3 flight numbers. After around 2 months of playing with it consistently, it has fallen into its flight numbers quite nicely. I can trust this disc in a headwind and rely on it for both backhand and forehand shots. It took a bit to get used to the feel as my champion destroyer has a much less stiff top, but as I have broken into the disc it feels great for both forehand and backhand.

This disc is more overstable than I thought it would be. It is not beginner friendly due to the overstability. With faster arm speed it holds straight for a little bit, but always finishes with a hard hyzer. Useful disc for intermediate to advanced players.

If you like the Firebird, then you will like the Thunderbird. The Thunderbird gets more distance due to the higher glide, and has less of a fade. It is almost like you took the Firebird and slightly flattened the curve. I have nothing negative to say about he disc, I just rarely bag it as I prefer other options. If I wanted something similar I would likely grab the Infinite Exodus, but it really comes down to which feels more natural to you.

    Champion Thunderbird 175g

I throw 400-450 max distance for reference.

The Thunderbird is the most reliable driver in my bag. In Champ plastic, it never turned over on me. I can get it out to 360-375 RHBH pretty consistently on a straight line with some gentle fade at the end. It is one of the only discs I can throw well both backhand and forehand. This is the only driver I trust with my forehand and again it will go perfectly straight with some reliable fade at the end.

I have had my Champion Thunderbird for over a year and a half and played 150+ rounds with it. It still flies the same as when I first took it out of the box.

I absolutely love this disc and I am tempted to try a less stable plastic to get some turn and further flight out of the disc- maybe Pro plastic.

    Review specifically for Forehands:

As a RHFH dominant player, I bag 2-3 Thunderbirds (various amounts of beat in). They are my primary flat to hyzer workhorses, as I find they have a steady flight and are a little more predictable on a shot-by-shot basis than my Firebirds. I find the distance to be a little more reeled in than its overstable counterpart, and thus, it has become my go to control driver off the tee.

As a beginner, the Thunderbird was my first initiation into the Forehand world, and it will never leave my bag. The consistent releases I find to be unmatched in the sidearm world, and that will always be a valuable resource for myself

Thunderbirds are the mix of control and distance I need on the course. While they don't have the most distance potential in my bag, I can consistently throw them out to around 350 to 375 with little to no fade, making it extremely predictable in all types of weather conditions. I love how flat and stiff the champion runs come out. They have a nice amount of stability to them letting me push them flat and moving back to the left with some little skip action at the end. I'll occasionally forehand them for shots that i want to finish straight as well. The thunderbird is an awesome disc that's versatile for tons of different lines.

If you will only read one line it is this: Thunderbird is a more stable Teebird. Which is great if you have both and can choose between the two in a round.

The Thunderbird is a phenomenal hybrid distance-control driver! It is such a standout disc that it has developed almost a cult following among my friends. As with any of Innova's discs, the flight of the Thunderbird depends on the plastic. Pro is probably money for most players, offering extra glide and extra straight distance before the fade kicks in. To get a brand new Champion Thunderbird to fly as far and straight requires arms like Ezra. Star starts out nearly as OS as Champion, but breaks in faster. All do the predictably same thing to various distances: fly straight with a fade at the end.

I bag an old Paul McBeth 4x Champion Thunderbird that is a laser beam out to 300 feet before it hyzers down into a moderate forward-left skip [RHBH]. A few of my friends have newer Champion Thundies, and they are a bit more overstable than mine, which suits their forehand styles. When I throw the newish Champion Thunderbirds, they start to fade closer to the 275 foot mark and get dumpy overstable. For fresh-out-the-box magic, Pro plastic seems to really shine; it has high glide and holds a beautifully straight line for most of its flight, even when thrown with 80% power. Within the first few months of having it, my friend who throws the Pro Thunderbird has two aces on 270-300 foot holes, and several near aces. He now keeps several fresh Pro ones at home as backup, as well as also bagging a Champion Thunderbird and a 2020 Jeremy Koling swirly Star. Serious driver love for a seriously good driver!

This disc feels great in the hand, both forehand and backhand. Every one I've held has low dome: not board flat by any means, but also very comfortably non-domed for flicks. I find the smooth medium-size wing to be more comfortable than my Teebird's wing, and therefore the Thunderbird knocked the Teebird out of my bag. The extra distance really helps too, and there is very little sacrifice in control.

The Thunderbird is made for neither max distance nor max control, but it is a standout hybrid that gives a perfect balance of both elements. Highly recommended.

The most dependable disc in my bag. I wish they would keep this disc in stock like they do destroyers/wraiths. At first, works great as an overstable fairway, then once it starts beating in and you can get some turn it flies like a dream. And it flies fantastic backhand and forehand. Only downfall is I only like it in star plastic and a star thunderbird is almost impossible to find.

I currently carry 3 Thunderbirds in my bag, ranging from overstable to neutral in flight. I have 2 champion thunderbirds and 1 in pro plastic. Right out of the box, my champ thunderbirds were meat-hook heizer bombs. The pro plastic was a bit more forgiving.

I tend to love the flat-top thunderbirds a bit more as they just feel so much nicer in my hand. My champion thunderbirds are quite reliable in the wind and tend to be workhorses in my bag. As a player with 500+ power, my champion thunderbirds tend to consistently land around 430 ft. w/ 80% power. My pro thunderbird on the other hand can easily reach 500 with a heizer flip shot.

In my bag, the thunderbirds tend to nicely compliment my eagles and firebird to work in that 380 - 450 ft. range. I would recommend this disc to really anyone, but it definitely depends on the plastic of the disc. The champion plastic is probably better suited for more intermediate to advanced players. Pro or DX plastic will be great for anyone. Star, despite the cost, could also be a great plastic for almost everyone as well.

Overall, it is a 5/5 disc for me and will likely stay in my bag for a long time. I highly doubt I will find any replacement for the reliability of my thunderbirds.

Excellent, all-around mold and one of my most used discs. Great forehand and backhand. Very reliable and won't turn over on you. Also one of the few discs I bag in multiple different types of plastic. This is one disc that you need to pay particular attention to the plastic type, and even run if possible, because it will have a significant effect on the flight numbers of your disc (moreso than other molds in my opinion). This is also a unique mold in that most people say Star plastic, especially the Swirly Star blend (in the Big Jerm tour series discs for example), is more overstable than Champion.

I currently bag this disc in Pro and Champion. The Pro plastic is much straighter out of the box, probably true to the 9/5/0/2 flight numbers when fresh. It's mellowed out even more after about 6 months of play to be even less fade and pretty straight. Great, reliable tunnel shot disc that will not turn but only fades forward at the end of the flight. It also gets a ton of glide. Not quite my farthest flying disc in the 9-10 speed slot but ultra reliable and consistent and probably my farthest flying straight shot. My Champion is much fresher and is quite overstable right now. Probably more like 9/5/0/3.5. I got one that is pretty flat and it has been instrumental in helping me learn and improve my forehand. Right now it's my go-to overstable forehand disc and backhand flex shot/utility hyzer disc. I prefer it over my Star Firebird. It's not quite as meathooky, but still very stable and will fight out of an anhyzer. I'm considering picking up a DX and beating it in to understable to cover all my shots in 9-10 speed range with Thunderbirds.

I think this disc is probably too fast and too stable for beginners, but once you have progressed past 7 speed drivers this is a good overstable high speed driver to move to. Just pay attention to which plastic you're getting. Experienced players - you need one of these in your bag. Phenomenal hand feel, equally great forehand and backhand (hell, Nate Sexton even throws wicked rollers with this thing). And if you're a mold minimialist, this would be the perfect disc to cycle in dx or pro, like many people do with teebirds or rocs. 5 stars, will always have a spot in my bag in some form.

This is my absolute favorite disc in my bag! The thunderbird is a disc that you can trust will have a nice, smooth flight and a predictable fade at the end. I use this disc every time I want to drive about 225-275 feet and I seem to always hit my mark with this disc! With all of this being said, though, there are a few things to know about this disc:

When you throw the thunderbird, if you release the disc at too much of a hyzer angle, you will not have a long flight. The disc will never be able to reach its high speed and you may find the disc to sink rather quickly. From my experience, the thunderbird is designed to be thrown at close to a 0 degree angle and a fair amount to the right of your target (RHBH). The disc will always fade enough to hit your target, and even it it doesn't land right where you want it to, the extensive fade gives you some safety if you don't like your release. This disc is a very reliable driver because of this. 5 stars for sure.

This is the disc that taught me to "disc down" (which was a good thing). I got a Champion Thunderbird at my local vendor. My arm speed is not quite yet what this disc needs to be fully utilized, but it is a good measuring stick for my form as I learn to get more power in my throws. Recently, I started to get enough power to flatten it out for an ok flight, but it still dumps out faster than I'd like - but that's because of the archer, not the arrow.  The Thunderbird does exactly what you'd expect for someone with my armspeed. So, I tend to stick with my GStar Teebird for a controllable overstable flight at shorter distances, or ESP Undertakers for farther shots due to their higher understability because I can get them to fly straighter for longer with a reliable fade at the end. However, I'm excited to get the Thunderbird back out soon once I have the ability to use it properly, and I can tell that there's a reason people with bigger arms really enjoy this disc. Hopefully I'll become one of them!

I bought a Star Thunderbird a few weeks ago. 164g yellow disc with silver squares stamp. Yellow is incredibly easy to find in grass, brush, and debris which is mainly why I got it. 9 speed discs seem to be perfect for me; having slightly larger hands the rim is a perfect width. This disc is good for beginners bc it isn't a meat-hook and will help beginners with their release angles on drives. I always notice a difference with the fade on drives which gives me a good idea of my release angle. Release this flat to slight hyzer and it loves to glide and have a slight fade at the end. Always predictable. Great in headwinds too. Will be a staple in my bag.

As a fairly new player that's been putting a ton of time in to get better, this disc was recommended to me by a friend. I haven't been disappointed in the slightest. If you throw this disc nice and flat, it'll hold such a straight line with a decent fade at the end. I've learned skip shots with this disc, tunnel shots, etc. It can be used for so many different shots that I don't see it leaving my bag any time soon. Strongly recommend for Beginning to Intermediate players!

I was excited to try out this disc. I love my metal flake teebird 3 and thought I could add just a little speed and possibly a little extra glide. I could not have been more wrong. Maybe I have a unique run, but this disc flies nothing like I had expected. It is way more stable than I thought it would be. Again, maybe mine is just a odd batch or a bad disc, but this flies like my Infinite Scepter and Felon. I love the Scepter, but that was not what I was looking for in this disc.

Still, it does have some good qualities. It flies consistent and feels good in the hand. It has been a good disc to practice my still pathetic FH. But, for my BH, I have no use for it. Even with an anhyzer it begins to dump almost immediately. I will still practice with it and hope it beats in - a lot. Maybe later I can find a use for it.

I bought this disc in star plastic and its become my go to straight disc. flies exactly how the numbers suggest, even out to 450 feet. Feels great in hand and absolutely rips. If you have 350+ feet of power expect this to be your favorite straight driver after some beat in time. I will say after about 3-4 months of constant use this disc now has reliable turn, making me think its a bit of a short life if you throw hard.  However, I will happily replace it as its my favorite fairway driver in the bag. Definitely going to try a champion plastic disc next time I purchase one.

I picked up a Thunderbird in Champion plastic on a very windy day and just as I had hoped, it was great at fighting the wind. A complete beginner will probably not get anything out of this but if you have basic form down to reliably throw your other fairway drivers you'll probably find some useful shots with it. I don't quite have the arm to get any more distance out of this than my FD2 but I can get both out to about 310ft and the Thunderbird is more trustworthy in the wind and has a stronger fade. I mostly throw this BH but can get some nice FH flex shots out of it as well.

This is an interesting review of a CHAMPION Thunderbird. If you love the Thunderbird and want something that is more overstable such as a Firebird, look no further than a champ Thunderbird which is equally, if not more overstable than any Firebird that I have ever thrown. I do prefer the firebird to the thunderbird, but if you like the feel of the thunderbird better then go with the thunderbird.

171 Champion Thunderbird is my go to disc for just about any power rhfh shot. Rip this hard and flat and watch it fly. It has a dependable stable flight with a dependable overstable finish. It feels fantastic in the hand and the champion plastic is extremely durable so you can trust it wont beat in as quickly as other plastics. If you throw it with a bit less power and more touch on anhyzer you can get a wonderful flex line out of it as well. Really a great disc for any level of player in my opinion.

This is the disc that started it all for me. My first ever disc golf round was with some unknown midrange (Knowing what I know now it was probably a Mako3) and I loved it. My wife and I went a few days later and picked up a few champion Thunderbirds and played our local course. I had no idea what I was doing threw a max of maybe 200 feet and never towards the basket. This disc was my driver, midrange, and putter. I loved it and it helped start an addiction that would lead to a passion for me. I still own my original Thunderbird and even though I haven't thrown it since learning more and getting infinitely better I will never let this disc go or forget it. I would recommend this to anyone simply based on the fact of what it did for me.

I bag four different thunderbirds, and the champion thunderbird holds a very special spot. When this thing breaks in a little bit, you can get some serious s-curves out of it. In a way, I almost treat this disc like another firebird, in that I can let it fly way out wide on anhyzer and watch it fight back for super controlled shots between 300-350 ft. For longer, straighter shots there are better plastic options for this disc, but the champion Thunderbird has some serious shot variety potential.

This is basically my favorite tee shot disc. The Thunderbird found its way into my bag very early on in my disc golf career. I immediately loved this disc and found it great for long hyzer flip shots.

Similar to Calvin Heimburg's Eagle control, I feel as though I can control the Thunderbird with higher speeds.

I carry four Thunderbirds in my bag everywhere I go. I find that I can tee off with this disc in almost every situation if I wanted to. I used three Champion Thunderbirds of differing age and one pro thunderbird that I use for forehands occasionally. I would recommend this disc to literally everyone.

I would say that this disc is pretty beginner friendly because it isn't super flippy, but also isn't way overstable (Except a sacred line of 2019 Thunderbirds). It has a very controlable flat flight pattern. Some of my longest throw have been achieved with my 175 gram Champion Thunderbird.

Just the other day I was able to crank my disc just over 520 feet.

I love the thunderbird. It has secured its place in my bag for a while; until something even better finds its way into my hand.

When I first saw this disc I was very excited. It was exactly what I was looking for in a control driver. It is still in my bag and I love it. I did order in champion plastic and it is a little more over stable than other ones I've seen but it still fills a hole I had in my bag and I don't see it being replaced any time soon.

The Thunderbird has been a great disc to start learning how distance drivers work. I've learned a lot about hyzer and anhyzer angles by seeing this fly. I use it for my forehand shots and when I need a good overstable disc.

I just started getting into disc golf about a month ago, so I don't have a lot of practice. But I spend most mornings going out to a field throwing my discs around. The Thunderbird has been my most improved disc. I can now get it to about 250 ft on a good throw which is basically my maximum distance right now. I've gone to a few courses, and it has been a good niche disc to get me through some tough spots. It's very reliable through trees, and it lands pretty nicely, so I can get some easy putts after a nice drive.

The Thunderbird was a great straight flying fairway driver that had a stable finish that was consistent. It is exactly the work horse fairway driver intermediate players that are able to throw this disc well. If you are a newer player this disc may be a little too overstable for you. I love how workable the thunderbird is as a fairway driver. I can throw it flat and get a good straight flight with the nice fade. If I throw it on hyzer it will hold that angle for the flight and I can get a really nice straight anhyzer flight if I turn it over. It will fight out and fade just a bit back if I do not rip on it too much. I really can trust ripping on this disc and knowing it will not turn over and dump. It may get the smallest amount of turn before holding straight and finishing back left for a RHBH. The disc feels great in the hand and it always come out super nice for my BH. If you are looking for a stable workhorse driver I would check out the thunderbird because all types of players from intermediate to pro level can use the thunderbird very well.

Out of the box the Thunderbirds seem to show thier overstabity early in the flight  it as they beat in they have the same fade but it is at the end of flight after a great straight path. I have a Champion and a Splatter Star both in max weight 175. They both fly similar in their different stages of wear. Please do your self and favor and pick one up if you don't have it. You won't regret it and it will have spot in hour bag no matter how long you have it

I have been using the thunderbird for about a month now in the champion plastic and I thouroughly enjoy how consistent this disc is. I mainly use it for forehand straight shots that need some fade at the end. It is a great disc for me to use in the wind as it does not turn over. I can trust it to do the same thing I want it to do.

Another thing I have been using this disc for is forehand flex shots. I am new to disc golf, but I can get this disc to about 350' with a nice anhyzer release that flexes and comes back at the end. I think it is a great disc to get better with, but I would recommend this to those that already have a few months of playing under their belt and know the fundamentals. Once you know how to throw this disc, it will do exactly want you need it to.

Disc - 175 Innova Champion Thunderbird

Feel - The Thunderbird is, in my opinion, one of the most comfortable discs in the hand on the market. Obviously that varies from person to person but the rim will fit in most hands as it is not very wide and it is not too deep either. It feels good for both forehand and backhand shots and I enjoy it and use it for both very often. Champion plastic is very durable but can become slick in bad conditions.

Flight - The Thunderbird is an amazing disc. Not only can you throw this disc amazingly far, it will fill many different slots in your bag. The champion version of this disc is fairly overstable but not so overstable that you cannot get a long flight out of it. I can throw this disc flat, with hyzer, or on flex shots and it performs great. It feels really good in my hand for my forehand so I also use it for many flicks that I need to be straight with a good finish at the end.

Overall - The Thunderbird is a great disc that will help to take some distance drivers out of your bag because it can be thrown so far with so much control. I wouldn't recommend this disc to beginners as it will be pretty overstable until their arm speed grows.

    Disc: 175g Champion Thunderbird

I've been throwing a Champion Thunderbird for a few years now, and it's served me well as a backhand control driver. It has a decent amount of dome, which keeps me from using it forehand. This is my go-to disc for backhand drives between 360-400' that don't allow for a big hyzer line. Compared to most discs, I'd consider it better than average for headwinds and cross-winds. The 175g Champion Thunderbird will be a stable disc for players with higher arm speeds, and pretty beefy for slower arm speeds.

I personally am not a huge fan of this disc, but I will admit, in the right hands, it can be very useful. I started as a forehand dominant player, and the Thunderbird was just a tad too slow for me, and I didn't stand a chance throwing it backhand. Even now, as I've developed a much improved and more consistent backhand, it fades a little more than I would like. That being said, my friend who is a backhand dominant player, loves this disc, and has long called it his favorite. Even without the fastest arm speed, his natural throwing motion puts his throws on a bit of anhyzer, so his Thunderbird has a very nice flex to it and glides into a very nice and reliable fade. All-in-all, I think the Thunderbird is a very nice disc, I love how it feels in the hand, but it just isn't the one for me.

This is a meaty disc for me. It is a bit too overstable for me at this point, but I have used it for forehand shots a few times and really enjoy it for that. This disc flies great in a headwind and will fade reliably to the left in those conditions. I can't wait to use this disc more.

    Champion Thunderbird-

Like others have always said, Thunderbird is a faster and longer Teebird - but beware! It's quite a bit more stable and does indeed require faster arm speed to use well. When I first got my Thunderbird, it was BEEFY, though that's probably due to the slower arm speed I had at the time. Now that I've improved and it's beat in a little, it really does fly like a long Teebird - zero turn, very straight, with a predictable and reliable fade. In my experience, though, I might consider it a 3 fade. It's good in the wind, though you may switch to a slightly less glidy disc for that.

My 175g champ Thunderbird has stayed in my bag for essentially one shot, but that one shot is so useful. If I see a shot that is 320-340 with a decently tight fairway I reach for my thunderbird. I'll throw it with just a touch of anny, and it will turn, and then it fades back nearly the exact amount it turned. So while it did flex a little, it is one of the straightest shots in my bag in terms of start point to end point. Other than that, I don't use my thunderbird a ton because most other times I could use it I'd rather throw a firebird. However, if you're someone who can throw a 9 speed disc a Thunderbird will likely be a great addition to your bag, whether you throw it for a ton of different shots, or find a specialty with it like I did.

I live this disc. Quickly became my go to for a dependable shorter range driver. Shots where my eagle isn't enough but my destroyer is to much. Use it for longer shots than my fairway drivers can handle, but where I want more control and straight handling than mostnofnmy higher speed drivers can give me. I find it very easy to handle, and it will hold and angle you put it on for a short time. I got this disc from my brother because he could not get a good flight path from it so it might not work the same for everyone, but I would still consider it fairly beginner friendly. Forearm shots with lots of power don't seem to effect it at all. I throw it in champion plastic.

This control disc/distance driver is always in my bag. It can handle a ton of power, and go a pretty good distance if you have a strong throw. For beginners,  it's a great around-the-corner automatic hyzer disc,  but it's sure to fizzle out early and dump hard if you dont have good form. For intermediate and advanced players,  you'll be hard pressed to find a better mildly over stable fairway driver. It has a medium rim that's easy to rip, and will go straight for a long way before gracefully fading forward and out if you break one in and give it good power. Great for flex lines, stable enough to handle a sidearm. Great overall disc that will age beautifully in premium plastics. Buy one! I rated it a 4 glide, but that's a good thing! It's so easy to throw the distance you want by backing off on power, or changing the hyzer angle.

This is the longer teebird. Has the same rim profile and flight. Being a faster disc, It needs more power to get the same flight. Thrown at the same power as the teebird, it's great for low ceilings, headwinds, and skip shots. Or for longer teebird type shots where if thrown hard you  get the nice straight finish without a ton of ground play. I like to use these when I need ~400 feet but I don't want to blow past the basket, head wind teebird type shots, low ceilings, and distance control knowing that I can rip it without going past ~420. Very good disc that complements the teebird to perfection. I don't use these for forehands, but the rim is comfortable enough.

Best 9 speed driver ever created in my opinion. This disc could be bagged as an overstable control driver for beginners, but more advanced players will be able to get great distance with control out of this. If it's 320 - 420 feet, and not too windy, I am probably throwing a Thunderbird. Absolutely one of my favorite disc.

The hype lives up for this disc and the numbers are very accurate for me. I get 0 turn out of this, the harder I throw it the longer it holds flat but without throwing it on an anhyzer it won't flip over at all. I could definitely see this being someones first OS driver. This is also probably my favorite FH discs. Thrown on anhyzer and it will hold it just long enough to get some great distance but not too long to where it's unpredictable. BH this disc is just so predictable that I find myself going to it again and again in tournament play. Love it!

Pairs great with a Firebird. I throw this in the way players use a typical fairway driver. For shots I would use a Firebird with a tailwind I grab this instead. It is my perfect distance driver for forehands with minimal fade. A real "workhorse" driver. On lighter shots it has a nice skip to it. I have found that all three of the Thunderbirds I have bagged were identical. Good consistency. This disc can handle all of your arm with a bit less glide than a distance driver. Highly recommend this disc for advanced players that can't find a rhythm with slower fairway drivers. For newer player it acts nicely as an over-stable distance driver with the caveat of being highly replaceable and a consistent mold across the board.

The Thunderbird is undeniably the great control driver. It's very straight for a disc this fast. Throwing it flat to slight hyzer will give it a very Teebird-esque flight: straight with slight fade. The flat top is also quite unique for a 9 speed disc. My only potential qualm with bagging this disc is that it is so similar to a Teebird3. You might get an extra 20-40 feet, but the flights are almost identical. Still, this is a great option to fit that gap between slower fairway drivers and distance drivers.

This is a very reliable fairway driver. Out of the box this disc is pretty over stable with it wanting to move left the entire flight. After the disc is broken in it will fly straight for a long time before fading left for the last quarter of the flight. I find myself using this disc when there is too much wind for a teebird, or when I want 20-40 more feet than a teebird

    Disc: 170g Champion Thunderbird (blue)

I really enjoy the Thunderbird for the stable straight flight. Perfect for straight forehand throws!

Flight: The Thunderbird I had flew pretty overstable out of the box. It flies straight with no turn, and then would fade at the very end. After using it for a while, it now flies super straight with little fade. Not much to the flight of these as they just fly straight for a solid distance.

Use: My favorite use for the Thundie is forehand straight shots. You can put good power on a forehand with these and they won't turn over, but they also won't fade super hard like a distance driver with the same power. So they're great for long tunnel shots (forehand or backhand). Also good for longer controlled shots that you need a bit more power on than a typical fairway driver could take.

Summary: I definitely recommend the Thunderbird. It's a solid straight flying disc that doesn't turn over on you. It doesn't have the hard fade at the end once used. I'd recommend for an intermediate player that wants to throw some good controlled power shots.

I found this disc to be quite overstable. I have it in champion plastic at 175 g and typically throw about 380-400 ft on my drives. Perhaps I haven't beaten it in enough but it's been quite an overstable disc. Even on hard rips it will want to slowly start fading left (RHBH) around 100 feet out of my hand before a solid left finish. I'd say it has the same if not more stability than some of my destroyers. Definitely works well in the wind. I'm only giving it 4 stars because of how overstable it is. That being said it's a very predicable driver and feels great in the hand. I'm hoping I can beat it in so that is has at least a little turn and can carry forward more. Every disc is different and it's likely I got a very stable disc, so don't judge too harshly based on my experience. Overall it's been a very consistent disc though. You can trust it to hold a hyzer line and it will flex out of an anny line very well for me if I need to navigate around something or through a narrow gap. Hopefully with time it'll be what Thunderbirds are known for. Straight workhorse with lots of glide and a dependable left finish.

The Champion Thunderbird is a fantastic longer fairway driver for shots both off the tee and off the fairway.  These discs require good arm speed to fly straight but man do they fly far.  Beat one in and it will be a hyzerflip to straight laserbeam.  These also make great forehand discs for straighter shots as well.

The Thunderbird is a really nice, stable control driver that will fill the gap between your fairway and distance drivers. This thing is going to be pretty beefy for newer players to the game, but more experienced players are going to get a straight stable fight, that is resistant to turn, with a nice healthy fade at the end. Once you season one of these, you are going to have a disc that you can throw on a ton of lines. The Thunderbird is a great driver from Innova.

I used to bag 2 Champion thunderbirds, one max weight and the other 170 G. These discs are awesome! If you need a controlled straight shot to travel about 350' this disc is perfect. The only reason thunderbirds aren't in my bag anymore is because I switched to the Discmania CD2. Very similar disc but the CD2 is a bit more versatile. The thunderbird when new will fly pretty stable to overstable. Get a couple rounds in on them and they start to get straighter and straighter. The thunderbird seems to glide for forever. In the hand the rim is really comfortable. The ones I had were pretty flat, not board flat but not pop top. They were right in that happy medium. The thunderbird is a great disc, part of me misses not having one in the bag. If you like the thunderbird but want something that is a little easier to shape lines with or if you like to throw hyzerflips check out the CD2.

For me this disc is for low ceilings. I normally throw wraiths and archons for my main drives, but presented with a low ceiling I use the Thunderbird. Doesn't go as far but has a manageable low altitude flight variable back and fore handed. Throwing flat: Leaves the hand straight, maintains height, and has a gentle fade at the end. I do not use this disc very often but it feels nice in the hand and has stayed in my bag three years now. Sometimes go whole rounds without grabbing it. Control driver defined.

People may use this disc for more shots than me. I just prefer other discs for those jobs. If you happen to throw wraiths and need a slightly straighter, low ceiling, shorter range disc. The thunderbird is a great option. I have heard pros say similar things about it and destroyers.

The Thunderbird is a fantastic flyer. My arm speed makes it a somewhat stable flyer, where I can turn it over if I really rip it, but it always comes back at the end. It's especially great when I need a good fade from a standstill shot, or an awkward lie that doesn't allow me to get behind my throw as much. Definitely a go to driver for almost any situation!

I will usually throw this in situations where I need that skip (Shady Oaks, hole 6, C position for example) to put me into position for a shot with a tight right to left window and a low ceiling. Try this disc out for yourself, you won't regret it.

The Thunderbird is exactly what you would want out of a distance driver, but with the accuracy of a fairway. This disc will ride straight for 80% of its flight then have a very predictable fade.

The Thunderbird is a great straight to hyzer fairway driver. A great utility in any bag just because of its reliability in getting left. I also like using this disc for forehand, but now that mine is broken in quite a bit I have to be careful not to turn it over too much. I would also say the disc fades a little harder than 2. I seem to use my Thunderbird a lot in getting out of bad situations, which is why I probably always almost lose it, but I spare no expense in wading through creeks and trees to find it again!

I really like this disc and have gotten some really good shots out of it but it for sure has a learning curve. I think that is due to it being one of my first discs with a stable/overstable rating. Good disk to start throwing as a step away from beginner status.

I bought a Thunderbird in Champion plastic several months ago, and I am really liking it. At 175 grams, it is not as overstable as I thought it would be, which is not necessarily a bad thing. It is close to a faster Teebird, but my Teebird in Champ plastic is a very stable Teebird, so the Thunderbird holds straighter by comparison. The Thunderbird holds its lines, and will fade back at the end of its flight.

This has become a stable of my bag for 300-350 ft flip to flat shots that fade a bit at the end backhand or forehand. I could see this disc being used as someones first jump up from lower speed fairway drivers as a dependable overstable driver

The Thunderbird is simply a step up from the Teebird. It offers a very good combination of distance and stability. This disc isn't very beginner friendly, but people with experience and decent arm speed can make very good use of this disc for a wide variety of shots.

A faster, slightly beefier Teebird, but in all the right ways.  The Thunderbird adds some speed and some rim width over the Teebird, but not too much to make it too overstable.  This is the driver that I trust in the wind, and one that I can lay into, without worrying about it getting flippy on me.  Still a disc that allows me to shape some shots, without turning left immediately out of my hard.

The Thunderbird is the middle in the Innova three-bird trio.  [If we imagine the Teebird has some ice element leanings, you could make a Pokemon reference]  I have a 175g Champion Thunderbird, and it has served me very well.

The Thunderbird is between overstable and stable - but in the heavy Champ plastic that I have, it tends toward the overstable side of that balance.  It has a very predictable fade, that is pretty strong, but not so heavily left-tending that you lose control.  5 glide is a lot, and you can feel it on low flight paths with a bit of anny flex.  The disc can soar for quite a ways - I've overthrown the 360' long hole at the local course a few times by mistake.  The predictability of the fade and the ability to handle wind make this a very dependable disc for hyzer throws and for straight shots.

Overall, the Thunderbird is dependable and fun to throw.  I frequently reach for it when I need a slightly overstable fairway driver.  I would not give it to a beginner as their first driver, but someone ready to disc up after something a bit easier to throw will find a great tool in the Thunderbird.

I have this disc in 168g, 170g, 171g and 175g champion, 175g x2 glow champ, 175g colored glow champ, 171g pro, and 168g g-star.  All champs are 4x paul McBeths except for a 171g 3x champ that Paul signed for me at the mcbeast challenge that i don't throw.  Yes you could say i love this disc and you'd be right.  I carry two in my bag.

This is one of the few molds that i backhand or forehand. I can get some great distance with this disc.  Hit my second eagle with this disc. I have such confidence with it in my hand. Perfect disc for headwinds, don't really matter how strong but i would love to get a faster version of this disc, say a speed 11 or 12. Sometimes that wind is too strong and a faster version would be nice.

Have to be careful when forehanding this disc as I can turn it over, which is great for distance, not so much so for those dogleg right shots. It goes where I want it to. Its basically the teebirds bigger brother so if you have been looking for something faster than the teebird this is your disc.  I wouldn't recommend a speed 9 to a beginner, stick with the teebird first.

When I forehand this disc it'll go straight as can be with a touch of fade.  Backhand depends.  It is great for hyzerbombs.  I've been extremely lucky to find champ glows cause night golf is a blast. If you haven't gotten this disc you should. I've gotten it for a few of my friends and they really dig it. Especially one of my friends who really needed any os disc.  I'll put it this way, I doubt I could play a game without it.!

I'm here to join the others in singing the praises of the Thunderbird!!! Man this is just exactly what I was hoping a Champ Thunderbird would be. It just fits so perfectly in the hand, and flies so true every time. As Infinite describes it, it is like a slightly longer Teebird. I would say that it fits into a weird gap between most fairway drives and distance drivers. A true staple in my bag.

The Thunderbird is quite an overstable disc. I'd say it is a bit more overstable than a "faster teebird" as innova says. However, it is still a great disc. In Champ plastic, it is great for hyzers or big anne to flex shots. Also, I will use the thunderbird for woods skipshots, because it has quite a skip on materials such as dirt and concrete. Overall, a fantastic OS disc

I use to throw this disc all the time before i started incoorporating slower fairway drivers in my game and this disc has glide! Brand new it has a straight flight with a consistent fade at the end. After a couple months you start to notice the disc turning just slightly for long s shots or hyzer flips. Great disc for beginners to work on drives and advaned players will notice the tee bird flight to it just a little faster.

The champion Thunderbird is a great disc for people who want a long straight flying disc that has a good bit of fade at the end. From the beginning it was a fantastic flying disc, but after just a few weeks the disc turned into an even better flier. It has just a touch of turn to it before flattening out and finishing hard left.

I bag Champion Thunderbirds as my step up between Teebirds and Destroyers.  The Champion thunderbird is a great introductory discs for new players into the high speed driver category.  If you can master throwing Teebirds, the Thunderbird is a great next step.  My Thunderbirds have a tone of glide, but stay reliable in moderate winds.  The only reason I am rating this disc a 4 is due to the Teebird3 creeping into its spot in my bag.  I find the Teebird 3 almost makes carrying the Thunderbird unnecessary as they have almost identical flight paths and distances for me.

The Innova thunderbird is an Icon of the fairway driver class and rightfully so. Like its stable mates the Teebird and Firebird the Thunderbird is high speed stable, with very little to no turn depending upon the plastic you pick up and its stage of wear. The Thunderbird's low speed stability varies a little but it can range from a very minimal/straight fade to a long listing fade reminiscent of an FD3 or flippy/beat Felon. It's profile is fairly smooth with an easy to grip rim making it pretty easy to throw both forehand and backhand.

I have thrown the Thunderbird in Gstar, Pro, Champion, and Star plastic and I would rank stability of those in that order Gstar and Pro being the least stable and champ then star as most overstable (slightly counter intuitive since Champ is normally more stable but I have received a number of Star Thunderbirds that I would call "Thunderboards" for how flat and overstable they are) I am currently bagging a 171 4x Paul McBeth Champion thunderbird and occasionally a 175 Pro for long bombs in low wind conditions. Gstar and Pro in my experience have been a little more domey than the runs of Champion and Star I received although I have seen far more domey Champion Thunderbirds than Star.

The Thunderbird goes sneakily far and will handle distance driver levels of power with joy in the more stable plastic. There have been times where on a good pull I can put the Thunderbird almost next to some of my distance drivers and for down hill shots this disc is the epitome of a control driver never going too far unless you have a less than ideal pull.  The thing about the thunderbird that appeals to me most is that as it breaks in it doesn't really get flippy it just starts to fade later and later until it gets pretty deep into the lifecycle.

As far as wind fighting I would say this disc moderately handles wind, it has quite a bit of glide and in any kind of gusty headwind situations will likely get blown around but a mild headwind shouldn't phase it much. In a tailwind you will likely need to be bagging a less stable plastic/more worn disc to keep it aloft, like its headwind situation a little is okay but it will get disrupted/upset with more wind around. For myself, I find myself throwing the Thunderbird on flat releases in the open most of the time and adjusting for power rather than adjusting for hyzer as this disc will normally yield a nice smooth fade but can all out hyzerbomb when thrown on decent hyzer. When thrown anhyzer this disc will fight out or bend slightly but fight right back. Forehand this disc performs true to its straighter firebird moniker and will absolutely crush if you have a pretty flat release (anhyzer release might force it over).

As far as beginner friendliness I would say that this disc may have use for those newer players in the less stable plastic for forehand throws as it is a little straighter on a flick than a firebird would be out of the box. For backhand it would need to be treated more like a distance driver than a fairway driver as this molds fade and lack of turn may frustrate newer players in higher weights. Going for the Pro or Gstar plastic in lower weights may help tune the disc more like a long Teebird for newer players but I would most likely recommend the Viking, Undertaker, or Escape before the Thunderbird because the slightly increased turn will be more forgiving and net more distance.

Given you have the skill to throw this disc as it is intended to fly it is one of the best work horse control drivers on the market right now and it's pro support shows that. It is versatile, predictable, and easy to cycle making it very easy to stock up on and layer out. It can easily be tuned with plastic type and weight to fit your individual needs and throwing style allowing it to remove some molds from your bag if you so desire. For those reasons this disc earns its 4/5 stars with ease and is something all non-sponsored players should consider picking up.

My new favorite disc! Flies nice and straight with a in easy light fade. Has a slight skip to it, but doesn't have a lot of roll. This disc is perfect for tunnel shots as well as a light hyzer. But I mostly use it for tunnel and open field shots with a left hook. The glow edition is awesome as well, one of my brighter glow discs.

This disc is awesome.  It flies nice and straight with a predictable, but not too much, fade at the end.  My only complaint is that I bought mine in tye dye and I often times have trouble finding it, especially when it flies so far down the fairways and I don't see it land.   I play in a lot of heavily wooded courses and the tye dye might as well be camouflage.  I am going to get another one in a solid color so I can throw with confidence.  Again this disc is awesome, back hand, fore hand, flex shots, it's great, just do yourself a favor and get it in a solid color.

This is one of the most reliable discs I have thrown. When you need a disc that will always fly perfectly straight for a long distance, and then always fade left at the end, this is the perfect disc. It's great for getting around obstacles on the left side of the fairway, and great for tunnel shots. It is also a great sidearm disc.

Truthfully, I bought a Thunderbird because Paul McBeth throws them. I was a beginner player and didn't have a stable or overstable fairway driver in my bag. Poor motivations aside, I now carry three thunderbirds in my bag of different weight. This disc is my go-to driver. I really like the Champion plastic, which is which I would recommend. These discs fly super straight on the line that you give them and have a great fade at the end. Nott too much or too little fade for me. I would suggest having a decent amount of experience before picking up one of these discs. New players should find something else. In time, they can pick one up and they will love it.

The Thunderbird is definitely one of those discs that I hate to imagine playing a round without. It's a disc that I can pull out for so many different shots.  Really, no matter what I'm faced with on the course, I will have some confidence if I have a Thunderbird in my hand.

One of the situations where the Thunderbird really excels is with those pesky tunnel shots.  If I am faced with one I have complete faith in this disc.  I know that if I release my Thunderbird flat at full power that I can count on it to give me  long, straight RHBH shots, that finish with a super predictable, soft little baby fade finish.

While the Thunderbird is great with tunnel shots, I think it is at its best when used for hyzer approach shots. That is where it really shines. If I have anything in the 150-275' range that has any sort of hyzer line, I either throw the Thunderbird or I consider throwing it.  I can't think of a single shot in my bag that I have more confidence in than a RHBH Thunderbird hyzer.  It's the closest thing I've got to a sure thing.  From spikes and low flighted skips to everything in between.  Windy day?  It makes no difference.  The Thunderbird is the best wind disc that I have ever thrown.

While the Thunderbird is amazing when thrown BH, it is also fantastic at all of the forehand shots?  Just about everything I can do well with the Thunderbird BH I can also do FH.  It is the only sidearm control driver I trust.  While I can obviously get more distance out of something like a PD or Destroyer, there is a tradeoff with those it regards to  reliability and consistency that does not exist with the Thunderbird.

In addition to being the perfect disc for better disc golfers (just look at how many of the top players carry several in their bag), the Thunderbird is perfect for the more novice/beginning player.  It is a disc that beginners will immediately find a use for, and then, as they develop, trust for more and more shots.   Even if you're still only throwing your drives 225-250', the Thunderbird is something that will really improve your game.  For those developing players, it can quickly fill a role in your bag as a reliable approach disc, as well as your go-to disc for skip shots, and windy days.  It also will really give you a great tool to help you develop a FH shot.

So, if you're a beginner and you can chuck it out there anywhere in the 200-300 range, then I think your next disc purchase has to be a Thunderbird.

More specifically, a 166g Champion Thunderbird.  You will be throwing DARTS with the thing on your approach shots in no time.

Recently picked up a 171g Thunderbird in Champion plastic... my first impression was that it was way more OS than the numbers and flight chart indicate... could be due to the plastic choice, though.  Anyways, I love this disc... I use it off the teepad for shots where I need a hard left finish (RHBH) but more a bit more distance that my Firebird.  I've thrown it many times RHFH in the field and it seems to be a great disc for that, as well... stable enough to forgive an accidental anny release, in most cases.

For people with fairly strong arm speeds, the Champion Thunderbird is a straight flyer with excellent glide. That doesn't mean that it's useless for those with slower arm speeds though, you just have to understand that it will be a bit more overstable for you. Thunderbirds seem to be best suited for tunnel shots and playing longer wooded holes where you need accuracy over maximum distance. You can definitely get more distance out of a Thunderbird than most "fairway" drivers though. They can really bomb!

The Thunderbird is a workhorse overstable distance driver that will occupy a spot in your bag for years to come. If you love innova's other 'birds, you'll instantly know the flight path of this disc. It flies exactly like a Teebird, just faster and further. It has overstability for windy days, but with glide that's useful in any weather. Thrown low and hard, this disc will skip and flare. On a stall or spike hyzer, it will dive and stick for accurate placement. This is a fantastic forehand disc! It has a reliable finish you can count on. I bag a McBeth 3x Champ 167g as my main driver, a Star 167g, and Star 175g. The Star tends to be more stable than the Champ in this case. My 175 Star basically functions as a Firebird for me as its near impossible to turn over. This disc is great out of the box but really ages beautifully, just getting longer and longer, a touch of turn, yet maintaining stability. Its not really a beginner disc; when you've mastered the TeeBird, you're ready for the Thunderbird!

    Who don't love a Thunderbird?

I think this is the disc that everyone starting out bought from Dick's Sporting Goods, max weight, and used it for every single shot in the book. Just me? No way! The Thunderbird is a great disc to learn sidearm throws with. Great right-to-left hooking disc for lower RHBH arm speeds. Comfortable rim for any size hands. The flight path changes drastically depending on the power you put into it, so it's a disc you can certainly 'grow' into making it a good value in Champ plastic.

This was my first driver, so I am a little biased as this one hold some sentimental value in my eyes (wait, we're talking about frisbees, right? geez). I would recommend a 175g Champion Thunderbird to any player, any skill, anytime. As I've progressed as a player, this disc, more than any other I've thrown, has accommodated my abilities (or lack thereof) and found a way to stay deep in my bag.

I really love this disc I actually carry two on me both max weight one in Champion and one in Gstar. I do this because they compliment eachother very well the Gstar being a little straighter with less fade, and The Champion getting a little turn on a solid rip but with a stronger more accurate fade. Because of this disc I really don't use my teebirds as much anymore as the Thunderbird has become (for me at least) not just a longer teebird but a better one.

I love the Thunderbird! I have been a Teebird lover for a really long time, and when they came out with a disc described as a faster Teebird, I knew I would love it. The Champion Thunderbird has a nice straight flight to it, with a decent fade at the end. I think it's almost in the middle of a Teebird and a Firebird. The Thunderbird finds it's way in my bag on more open courses, where the added stability can get that extra skip at the end. I prefer a PD in wooded conditions to a Thunderbird, but I will carry both in my bag if I'm playing a course where every shot may be required (Milo McIver).

I prefer to carry a sparkle champion thunderbird, or a glow champion thunderbird because they are both slightly more stable than the regular jolly launcher champion Thunderbirds. What I really like about the Thunderbird is that every single one has flown exactly how I would expect. I can pick up a Thunderbird, and make an estimation based on the stiffness, weight, and feel of the disc and it's usually pretty close to how I think it will fly. The Thunderbird is dependable and I really think this disc could help out anybody looking for that awkward in-the-middle speed in their disc golf bag. It splits up my fairway drivers and Destroyers nicely, and I think I'll be throwing a Thunderbird for a long time.

I own both a G* and JL Champ Thunderbird. My G* has been in the bag since it was released in production G* and I have used it so much to the point that it has beaten in quite nicely. I can achieve some good hyzer flips with it and it is very controllable. The champ flys true to the flight ratings and makes a good stable to overstable control distance driver. I use the Thunderbird for holes where I need quite a bit of control, but the overstability of my firebird, and more speed and distance than a midrange. Innova knocked it out of the park with this mold and I suspect someday people will speak with reverance about the Thunderbird the same way they speak about another popular bird in the innova lineup

Love this disc.  Picked up a Gstar on a whim and was easily hooked.  Have added a couple champions now.  The champs are a touch more stable, and will likely hold onto their stability longer.  This is a faster, more glide, Teebird.  Honestly it is what I wanted my teebirds to be.  This thing is so easy to put out in the 300-350ft range, but crank on it and it will get a touch of turn and soar past 400ft.  Well done Innova.

Awesome disc for reliable, stable 350+ ft drives with good fade. For my arm speed this is my go to driver for 350-380 ft drives. Won't turn on me, even in to a moderate head wind.

I love my Thunderbird!  Innova called it the perfect way to fill the gap between teebirds and destroyers, and that couldn't be more accurate, though with a good enough arm, you can get this thing out just as far-if not past- destroyer range.  This disc loves getting flipped up and will hold a hyzer line perfectly, letting you dial the basket in easily!

THIS DISC GOES! If you find yourself overpowering your regular Champion Teebird pick up one of these. When thrown RHBH flat at full power it just goes laser beam straight with a nice predictable fade. Great for sidearms too! Like a Firebird with less fade at the end. It honestly might end up replacing most of my Teebirds.
