The grip is great on this plastic but wears in easily. Great for approach forehands. Less fade then marketed and this is why I use it for the forehands. Decent driver for lower speed arms, such as with a beginner.

I throw a lot of flip up hyzers with beat in discs and prefer my fairway drivers to have a bit more turn. However, I needed something for windy conditions and something I could throw on a hard anhyzer and be sure it wouldn't turn over. The Thunderbird performed exactly as expected. I would like to work up to a Destroyer at some point for more distance but for a controlled shot around 300 ft this disc does a great job. It's bound to finish on a hyzer angle no matter how much you try to force it over. Holds up great in the wind as expected. The DX plastic isn't great but considering I don't use over stable discs all that much but it works well for what I use it for.

Beginner Friendly, depending on the player, but I'm so glad I picked up this disc. I don't have the biggest arm, to say the least, so several overstable discs I've tried just don't get the distance I need without wanting to fade way too quickly. For me, this disc, thrown flat and low, just holds the line, giving me a much needed driver on the shots with a low canopy, getting out there 250/270 (which is close to my max) nice and straight, with only a slight predictable fade at the end. I will likely be replacing this down the road with one in the Star or G-Star plastic.

This disc has to be hands down one of the best drivers for starting out players. A DX Thunderbird is really forgiving to slow arm speeds, giving a reliable fade out, while being a straight flier for the players with higher arm speeds. I really haven't tried any other plastics in the Thunderbird mold, aside from Star, and I found that to be a little too overstable for my liking, although I only threw it a total of 2 times, not taking time to get used to it. And I've tried a more beat in DX thunderbird, that I hated due to how understable it had been beaten in to. So the way I see it, is use it while it's still got some stable in it, if you are in that higher arm speed, and if you are a beginner, this is the perfect disc for you!

Nothing but good things to say about this discs.  It was one of the first drivers I truly enjoyed throwing because I saw easy distance and lots of control.  My hyzers were instantly better and I finally starting parking holes.  The overstability is just perfect for giving it all you got and trusting it not to turn over.  And once you break it in and get enough arm speed you'll see insane distance on anhyzers and hyzer flips.  I truly think this disc can help anyone's game, beginner or pro.  You're missing out if you haven't thrown it.

This is a disc most will struggle to master, but once you do you will see unreal distance.  400 plus easy with enough ceiling.  Definitely a disc you want to work up to and be patient with.  Will become very understable with usage.  Great for course with long shots.  Try it out but don't rush to master it.

A true 'speed 9', fitting comfortably in your hand like a fairway driver but goes faster and farther. If you can't yet throw a distance driver, I would recommend trying the Thunderbird as your max distance disc.

DX plastic isn't supposed to be durable, but it just seems even less so than other manufacturers baseline plastics. It has a nice grippiness to it, but just a couple of trees and its a retired disc which will happen far too often for the Thunderbirds role in your bag. I'd recommend Star.

Can't believe I never reviewed this disc - I've thrown them in DX, Pro, and Champion. One of the staples of my bag. The DX version is the best baseline cycle driver I know - It takes a long time and many tree hits to get them flippy. I think they are actually more stable new than a Pro. The Champion is my go to disc when the winds are kicking up and my lighter Saints might flip. One of my two aces is with a Pro Thundie, and I've had 2 DX chain out ace runs. Love a 1.9 cm rim.

I am loving this disc! I got this to fill a need to try and reach those 350ish foot par 3's, to hopefully get a shot at birdie. I am still somewhat new to this disc and it can come out quite stable, but when everything lines up right, when I throw it low and hard, it flips up to straight and sails for a very long time, then dies to the left. I like the feel of the DX and am OK with it's flight changing over time. I am excited to wear it in to the point it flies straight! This disc for me is a keeper in the bag and is getting me close to the basket on those par 3's that had been out of reach.

I held off buying one of these guys, just didn't think that it would have a spot in my bag. It turned out that I wasn't wrong, but it throws so well I almost wish I had a place for it.

All the buzz about these being "good" DX, the stiff gritty stuff of yesteryear, I didn't believe it. Until I found one in a store, it was on sale so I picked it up. They start out a little more stable than the numbers indicate, almost like an FL, but then they war into that perfect feeling disc to use on those 350-400 ft holes where you need a good straight line.

Mine doesn't like to manipulated that much and is reluctant to hold an anhyzer. It will hold a hyzer to the ground though, but a good flat Climo style drive is where it shines. Low to the ground and fast. Good skip to the finish.

This is the disc that I learned how to disc golf with. It was 167 g which is a good starting weight. It is a great disc for those long but shorter drives. I feel the flight pattern is great and accurate. I would stay away from DX plastic becuase it just gets eaten up too easily and you will have to replace your disc after a couple months of use. Get the champion or star plastic and you will have it for years.
