The DX Boss provides the same high-speed flight in Innova’s base plastic, offering the most grip and fastest wear-in. The Innova DX Boss becomes more understable with use, making it great for tailwind shots or learning high-speed form.

I had a Champion Boss which I'd say was pretty much like the standard flight numbers, and gave very reliable overstable flight; but this 151g DX version I'm reviewing is quite a bit different: The lighter weight really makes it less torque resistant so it typically requires a hyzer release to avoid turning over. The benefit of this weight, of course, is the added distance you can reach if the throw is correctly made. Unless I turn it over too much, it gets as much distance as my usual favorites. It has worked very well right away for my wife, too, who has maybe 130-150 ft (LHFH) top distance. The lighter weight of this one helps maximize her power and get her drives farther. This weight may be too flippy for real power throwers.

The DX plastic has a decent grippy feel, but just like my original DX starter set discs, it doesn't take much to scuff and rough it up. Normally I'd avoid the DX, but it was on a great sale and I figured if it starts to get more understable with wear, it should still be suitable for my wife's throws. The plastic grade is what knocks it down half a star in my mind.

I bought this disc because I liked the picture on it. It is very hard for me to throw. I am still a beginner. It just sits in my bag now. Hopefully one day I'll get good enough to throw it.

THIS REVIEW IS EXCLUSIVELY FOR THE DX PLASTIC.

I really wish I could add some qualifications to the whole 'very beginner friendly' thing. I put that because the minute you have the technique to get the best out of a speed 10 or 11, this should be your next logical step up. I also need to add another qualifier for my ratings. Innova is extremely good at rating their discs, probably to an extent where I would believe they're the best in the business. They are even pretty good at adjusting flight ratings for plastics. However, the DX Boss is extremely flippy, especially beaten in. The Champion and DX versions of this mold are quite literally a world apart.  Not to say this is a bad thing, of course, it's just that the Champion boss is just itching to start its relatively mild fade. Also, this isn't my favorite distance driver, but there isn't any doubt in my mind that this is the most comfortable in my hand. Actually, can we talk about that? It's a weird feeling, a welcome surprise to feel like the mold was meant for your hand. Obviously, this is just me. I know now you're not supposed to even buy these unless you've been playing for a bit but if this is all your local Hyvee, Walmart, Farm and Fleet or otherwise has, then congrats on your first distance driver.

PROS: Will become a versatile go to driver for every single kind of shot off the tee, save rollers.

CONS: If you're Eagle McMahon and you sign for Innova exclusively to use DX plastic, you will send this thing barrel rolling hard enough to make Star Fox proud.

The boss Id say should not be thrown by beginners. And even with a good strong arm I'd say do not get in DX because you will probably knick a tree. Id say champion boss or star boss would be more ideal for the durability of the disc, I'd say the flight itself is pretty good but I think it has more turn than a person would think. If you get this disc don't grip it too hard or else you'll grip lock the disc causing massive problems for your game. Good disc overall do not use it if ur not strong enough.

There is a special fondness I have for the DX Boss. Months and months of throwing a 160g version of this, a Shark, and an Aviar. Months of the disc going about as far as my putter, just dumping out sharply. Then, it happened. I hit my first big (270' was big for me at the time) proper drive with this disc. Beat to hell and chips of the rim missing, my DX Boss proudly flipped up to flat, cut through the air, and parked me 8 feet from the basket. Where I promptly missed the putt.

While my game has drastically improved since that first year of play, I still have a Blizzard Champion Boss in my disc storage to remind me of the good times. This disc is overstable until it is beat in, then it is a great flex line disc that can challenge wind. In DX, the disc can turn into a great roller. But stay away from this disc until you have been playing for a bit and have the proper arm speed. Look towards Teebirds or Leopards if you are starting out and want a driver disc.

My go to backhand driver. I'm a beginner with an average backhand speed, and for me this disc in a 150g is perfect. I get just a little bit of turn and a nice long glide before fading at the end. Don't recommend for beginners unless you have at least an average arm speed and choose a lighter than normal disc

Bought a DX Boss and a Lat64 Missilen as my first 2 discs because I didn't know enough to know that you needed a big arm to throw them. The Boss is a great disc I'm sure, but my arm isn't big enough and my BH is awful, and the Boss isn't the best FH or Tomahawk disc, so it never really worked for me. Also this particular DX got beat up reallllly bad. Still give it to people that come out with no discs because I don't have enough other drivers to give them, but I wouldn't recommend the Boss for beginners.

I throw a DX Boss on wide open shots at my local course. For me, this thing is unpredictably understable. Every now and then if I throw it with just the right amount of hyzer on it I can get a really nice drive out of it, but the majority of the time I just turn it over too much. It's not super light at 165g, so I have to assume it is the plastic. I have a Star Destroyer that flies super straight and I can only get a little flex on it. I think in a better plastic, this disc would be great. As for now, it is too inconsistent to hold a permanent place in my bag.

In the very beginning, it was Lace and Boss for me, but as the DX plastic got beaten and my skill and arm speed built up, it was just the Boss. Very controllable, very reliable. It can really teach a beginner how to drive.

My first offical disc that I have bought, excluding the bad cheap ones from walmart. My first throw with it was great, and the dye on it was in a great pattern. This disc used to do a nice S curve to it. I used it for everything, from tomahawks to flicks. It just curves around the trees so nicely, but now its just a strait shot and fade, maybe due to me getting better? I retired this champ into my wall of fame, and just brought it out recently to give it a shot. Still flies like a pro and getting close aces.
