This is one of the best driving putters I've ever used or own!

I got a sweet mint green Neutron version of this, with a tiny little MVP stamp on the corner. Very stiff overall, indestructible (as with all MVP/Axiom/Streamline discs), and sooo smooth in the hand. NO flashing or weird feels that need sanding. The only thing I don't love about it, is the depth is kind of too deep for my liking. I like shallow to medium discs across the board. And this is pushing into that deeper dish putter territory (like a P2 or Aviar), but not quite all the way. If this was the same depth as the Envy, this would actually be one of my favorite discs of ALL my discs. That's how well it flies!

It also has a small bead that I don't care about. Beads don't matter to me one way or another. And the rim shape is nice. Just wish the rim depth was less. It's just a little too deep and sometimes it gets stuck on my fingers and I grip lock it right. Have to be careful with that as it does happen and I always berate myself for not remembering to grip it differently.

Other than the depth being a little too deep, this is hands down my favorite driving putter. I throw this thing as far as my Mids with ease! And the flight is fantastic. It's a bit misleading to say that it's ONLY a 1.5 fade. It is only 1.5 fade, but... it's ALWAYS there. I've never not had it turn back a little at the end. So in a way, it's almost like you're throwing a 2 or 3 fade disc, in that you can ALWAYS know that it will come back a little at the end and finish left. Sometimes discs with 1-1.5 fade can finish too right. This disc ALWAYS finishes left. But since it's not a ton of fade, you can pretty much aim about 5' right of the basket, rip it, and start walking down the fairway, as you can be sure it's going to be right by the basket or middle of the fairway.

It also is lazer beam straight most of the time. Unless I really crush it and flat. Then it can turn just a bit, but with that super dependable 1.5 fade, it always finishes back left. Otherwise it's dead straight, even into low to moderate wind! It's also super versatile in that I can put it out right on a high steeper hyzer line and get a more stable flight out of it. It will hold that hyzer angle the entire way and gently keep curving back left the whole way. So it's almost like it takes the place of 2 discs in your bag in that respect. Your straight throwing putter and your stable throwing putter. I only carry 2 throwing putters because of how versatile it is off the tee.

Not sure how it putts as I've never putt with it before, but it's hands down this and the Envy that are the best throwing putter combo I've ever used! I've gone through 7-10 throwing putters and the Ion and Envy are my favorite combo. And can never say enough about the quality and craftsmanship of MVP/Axiom/Streamline discs. Bar none THE BEST in the business. Kastaplast is a close second, but this stuff is almost indestructible. I've had it for 3 years now, and if I just take a wet cloth to it, you would think it's almost brand new still! Fantastic disc

This disc is not only good for putting, but is great for 250ish ft drives. It is very stable and has a slight finish. The neutron plastic is perfect for clammy hand players.

A great disc for any putting range, even jump puts. Can be put on very predictable lines and holds angles well. Ive tried in proton and neutron plastic and seem to have better luck with the neutron plastic, but for those who like the more flexible proton plastic they also work well! Ive tried putting with Lunas, pilots, and a brief stint with a Kastaplast Reko but I keep coming back to the Ion as a workhorse putter

Maybe it's me, but I really don't like the feel of this disc. I generally like deep putters, but this one just feels very odd. The combination of a very sloped underside with the slick plastic makes it easy to release, but still hard to get a consistent grip. I like the tacky over-mold on discs like the Nova, but this feels more firm, and less grippy.

The disc itself flies alright, but not great. I don't know what it is, but I always seem to get way more wobble than I do with other putters. As a result, I cannot rely on this disc to regularly go where I want it to.

All of the above being said, I have this disc in one of my loaner bags, and a friend really does like it. He also likes MVP discs in general and also throws my Tesla (which is a disc I  DO like). This could just be one of those things where it's an acquired taste or something, or maybe I'm just gripping it funny thinking it's an Aviar... I dunno???

I would not say this is a bad disc, but it's not one of my go-to options by any means. I may give it a shot again in the future, but for now, the disc has a solid spot in the bag of discs I don't personally toss around.

A Great Putting and Throwing Putter

The ion has a lot of history behind it, it's the disc that put MVP on the map. It flies a lot like an Innova dart, but with just a little extra fade at the end. It also has more torque resistance as most overmold discs do. That torque resistance isn't really what I want in a putter. I'm too used to how nonovermold discs fly. If I put an anhyzer angle on the disc I want the disc to hold that angle, not flip up to flat.

At the end of the day, the world loves the Ion. I have no major complaints, but I'm going to stick with the dart for now.

Just added my favorites after a year of picking up the sport. Over my first year I primarily putted with RFF/Eraser Wizard's, having picked the first up as my first beaded putter and knowing I liked the feel much more than the Aviar/P2 I played the first month with. Although I love my Wizard still and am currently bagging one, as I improved I found the gummier plastic wasn't helping me stretch my outside the circle putts with much accuracy.

Soon enough I found the MVP Ion, which gives me the same rim/bead/depth as the Wizard, it really does feel the same size-wise. I'm not much of a thrower of my Wizard, power grip feels wrong and I don't get a ton on my fan grip. I have been far more confident with the Ion in Neutron plastic for throwing though, getting significantly more grip with the thumb and finger tips on the plastic versus a grippy but dry RFF. This really shows in circle 2, where I'm getting much more spin when popping my hand open and am push putting with much more pace and less height.

I'd highly recommend this disc to anyone who enjoys Wizards as a putting putter, and wants a hair less glide and OoB stability, but will be a grippy harder plastic that stays the same stability longer. My Wizards were more OS but beat faster, the Ion appears unchanged after 2.5 months while having that hair less fade, right where I'd like my Wizards to beat to and stay (they kept going though).

The Ion was MVP's first disc, and they knew the kind of putting putter they wanted to put out, a beaded full-in-the-hand laser. I doubt I'll be considering a change anytime soon.

This disc is an amazing throwing putter. The Ion is very controllable disc that for a putter flies really far for me. I can't throw too far, but i can throw it pretty controllably up to around 250 feet. The disc holds a line very well, especially after it gets beat in a bit, and once it gets really beat, I get a nice controllable hyzer-flip. For anyone looking for a controllable putter that goes really far, I would definitely recommend this disc.

If you're looking for a great throwing putter this is probably one of the best options on the market the flight is so reliable even with windier conditions very straight flight with a slight fade at the end plus the plastic is so durable this disc along with almost all of mvps disc last forever I know my ion is at least 5 years old plus i actually got it from a friend of mine. great disc!

I bought this after trying a friend's MVP drivers. I was looking for a putter that works for me.  These are good putters, but not for me. With their glide, I kept throwing past the basket!

I use prodigy PA4 for putting and most short clean approaches. I use the ion for longer shots and off the tee. I use this where any shot below a strong mid range throw is required.  In fact, I don't use my mids as much because of this disc.

Straight flight, some beef to hold lines and give you a predictable finish.

The rim feels unusual inside, but I got used to it with putt and fan grips. The power grip is not comfortable for me; but if it's that far, I will throw something else.

I have this in Neutron and Plasma. The Neutron flies further, due I presume to the stiff material affecting glide.

UPDATE--  the disc split through the middle when. It cracked through. I've never seen a disc do that before. The temp was probably around 40 degrees, too.  I bonked it on the toe of my boot to knock of some snow, and it split through the center almost from rim to rim. I checked my other Neutron discs, and they were very stiff. I am taking 2 stars off for this. Neutron is no bueno in the cold.

    For Me:

This disc just does not do it for me. For me personally, I only give it a 1/5. It's uncomfortable, it almost feels like there's an awkward rounding where your fingertips sit for a power grip as a driving putter, and it feels awkwardly tall for a putting putter. Always came out of my hand with OATS and turned over more than it should've. It kept doing this even when I revisited it after successfully throwing other driving putters.

    For Others:

But we should all also recognize that what works well for some people, doesn't for others. I've seen some people play with these and perform very well, and when they're thrown well, they work exactly as advertised. Straight flyer with a good sized bite on the end. Haven't seen one get turned over yet without extenuating circumstances (excessive wind, OATS, anny release).

    Rating Explanation:

For me, this disc only gets a 1/5, from what I've seen other people do, it would get a 5/5. So I give it a 3 because I feel the 1 rating is unfair since it just didn't get along with me, but can't give it a 5 because people should be aware, that it may feel kind of strange.

I use this one as a driving putter, and also for putts over 40 feet. Off the tee, this disc will fly dead straight, sometimes with no fade on the end at all. I'm very accurate with it from 250 and in. It has a nice deep rim that feels good in your hand. For longer putts, I usually put it on a slight anny and get a little s curve out of it. I'll always have one of these in my bag.

I have two of these putters I liked them so much. Started playing with a rubberized Pluto Platter in 1957. Got a patent pending Frisbee in 1965. First beveled Disc was a DGA driver which became my putter. But used a Aviar P&P since they came out. Had my chest cut open to get my Ironman heart and Aviars didn't work for me anymore. Too much turn and fade. Bought Ion putter and first day it took 6 strokes off my game. Handles a sidearm better than any putter, which none really do handle a sidearm. Have to hold my elbow close to body to throw any Disc under a 5 speed. Ion flies straight, no turn, and negligible fade. Does have glide. Handles a headwind if you throw it rated speed. Throw too hard it will turn in headwind. Feel of soft proto plastic is excellent in my opinion. More grippy than my neutron and has more glide. Use the neutron in headwind. Been sinking so many more putts with this other Folfers are commenting on my good putts.

Got this in a circuit tourney and it has become my drive-putter.  Straight, flat, nice glide and when it lands, it sticks with no skip.  The outer edge is getting dinged a little, but grabs the chains nice on those out of the circle putts.  So it will have to be replaced at some point, but unless I come across another high-grade plastic putter this will be in my bag.

Acquired a 173g Neutron Ion, and all I can say is "Wunderbar!"  The Ion felt very comfortable in my hand and grip.  For some reason, the Anode just felt a bit "off" and I felt I couldn't grip it well;  the Ion feels much more comfortable.  The Ion putts very well for me, that "4" glide is true gives me good results with longer putts.  I haven't thrown it off the tee, but upshots are accurate, with a consistent and predictable fade at the end of the flight.

The Ion completes an "MVP bag" for me, though I may add to it over time.  Overall, I still have the Judge and the Nova, but I'd feel comfortable if the Ion was my only putter.  Great disc!

I have two go to putters, The MVP Soft Neutron Ion is one of them. This was the first MVP disc that I owned and it tattooed the brand on my heart. I've made putts from places that should have been a bogey with this guy. It goes right where I want it every single time. If you buy this disc and you miss your putt, There are no excuses! You just suck! You need to add this disc to your bag yesterday.
