The Ion is one of MVP’s high glide discs with just a small amount of overstable fade at the end of the flight. These characteristics make this a great long-range putter for disc golfers of all skill levels. This disc is available in each of MVP’s plastics, including their Eclipse plastic, which glows in the dark. It is also available in the soft Proton plastic.

So far I've only used to disc for short distances but from what I have used it for it this disc likes to glide. If you are not use to it than I would not recommend this disc for you or for new players.

First off, I don't use this disc for putting. It's definitely not grippy enough and not straight enough on long putts. However, that's not to say that it can't catch chains, I've thrown it in several times from far out and I've never had a chain out with it on the few times I've gotten my approach just right. I use this disc for short hyzer approach shots from 125 feet and in. It doesn't fly straight all the way to the ground, go with the Anode if that's what you're looking for. However for approaches where you have open space or need to move a little bit on a hyzer this is a great disc. The combination of the overmold and the plasma plastic is extremely comfortable in hand and makes for some really clean releases, which is crucial on short approach shots. One thing I would say is that it doesn't stick very well when it lands compared to some other soft approach discs. It's not extremely hard to prepare for a slight skip, though, and can actually help on most occasions. Once you get the hang of this disc, you won't want to approach with anything else. It is extremely consistent, easy to learn and very comfortable. No reason not to throw it.

I have thrown every plastic and nearly every generation of Ion out there and each one is pure greatness. Due to the rounded "shoulders" inside the rim, I've never been able to throw this disc off the tee or with a power grip. However for approaches and fan grip short drives, there is nothing else that comes close. I can trust this disc to fly straight and glide to a stop exactly where I want it.

The Ion isn't my favorite MVP disc, I always preferred the straighter flight of the Anode as a long putt/approach shot putter, and like the Atom better as a putting putter, but the Plasma plastic is so good looking I had to get one of these.

The Plasma plastic is slightly more grippy than regular Neutron plastic, but still not as tacky as I like for putting.  This is still a really good driving putter, and if having a really good looking disc helps you play better, you'll want to get some of these.
