The Ion is one of MVP’s high glide discs with just a small amount of overstable fade at the end of the flight. These characteristics make this a great long-range putter for disc golfers of all skill levels. This disc is available in each of MVP’s plastics, including their Eclipse plastic, which glows in the dark. It is also available in the soft Proton plastic.

I don't like this as a putter because it's too hard for my tastes. It tends to bounce, so in misses, it creates a lot more separation between the basket and the disc. It can also tend to bounce out of the basket. I'd opt for something softer.

Wish I had found this disc sooner. Super predictable putter. The thick bead is comfortable and GLOWS IN THE DARK!! The clear blue is super light. Almost clear. This disc is rapidly becoming my new favorite.

My friend owned this disc and it was the most comfortable putter I've used. It flew straight like any other putter but the plastic and the edge profile made for more consistent releases.

I have a 170g Ion in Eclipse plastic thrown mostly RHBH with an occasional forehand flick. When it was new it would hold any line you put it on. Thrown flat, it would fly dead straight with a slight fade at the end. Hyzers would hold to the ground, and on an anhyzer it would level out just before hitting the ground. At this point it's seasoned and any sign on fade is essentially completely gone. For a while I was using this as both an approach disc and primary putter with some drives. The inside lip is rounded and took some time to get used to when driving. It's also a moderately deep rim with a micro bead, so if you're not fond of that this might not be for you. I found it had a little too much glide when putting and would at times put me beyond the basket. I have since found a different putting putter, but this is now used as a driving putter and it's excellent for that! The flight is very consistent off the tee and is good for 200-225 for me on the regular. I do highly recommend this disc for anyone looking for a good driving putter, or approach disc. Again, not my first choice as a putting putter because of the glide.

I am writing this review from my own prespective. I am a fairly new player who doesn't make many long putts and can throw my putters around 180 reliably. I have a 173 G Purple Eclipse ION that I use for upshots driving and putting.

    Pros:

    • Extremely straight flying disc
    • Can hold up in the wind fairly well
    • Very subtle bead which does not hurt and helps for a consistent putt release
    • Not sticky, rarely hold to my fingers when putting.
    • The proton purple looks really nice. The eclipse white outter layer makes it look even better.
    • Can be released on a straight hyzer or anyzer angle for different putts (fights back from an anhyzer a little though.)

    Cons:

    • Strong (15 MPH+) winds make this disc unusable.
    • I wouldn't advise this for night time since the glowing portion is so small.

Got a 175g in the Eclipse plastic a few weeks ago, and its absolutely blown me away. Quite soft/flexible and very comfortable in the hand. Its quickly turned into my go-to disc for nearly any backhand shot 170 and in. Has been a much better fit for me than my previous Aviar, which it easily replaced. Just an all-around terrific approach putter, and one you won't have an issue putting with either.

im 50 years old and have been playing disc golf for about 25 years. in that time i have tried virtually every putt and approach disc you can think of. I could never throw this type of disc hard without flipping it or causing a hard turn. that all changed with my 175 ion in eclipse plastic. it is absolutely the best putt and approach disc ever conceived ! i can hardly believe i find myself driving off the tee with this thing on holes 200 or less. i love this putter and i never thought i would utter those words.

I have a Soft Neutron Ion and an Eclipse Ion, both 173g. I like my Soft Ion better for putting and upshots that need to sit down. The Ion has a very straight flight path on putts with a natural hyzer on longer putts. My Eclipse Ion is good for driving and jump putts. This particular Ion can hold any angle that it's released on. The Eclipse Ion is a little bit more slippery than the Neutron Ion, but they are about the same. Definitely not the putters to use in the rain. However, the Ion is one of my favorite putters in my collection. I love the consistent release and flight, but if MVP made a more grippy plastic, I would strictly use Ions to putt with.
