One of the consistent best-selling discs for a reason: Reliable flight and fade, and it nets me some of my best into-the-wind distance. I got a DX version in my original starter set (not a good plastic for distance drivers) and it was rather frustrating getting used to how different it was from an ultimate frisbee -- fading out left so far on me all the time. I think fairway drivers are suited better to beginners (although depending on the person and the disc stability, those might be a bit much for them  right at the start). My son ended up losing that DX one, so I picked up a couple replacements in GStar (definitely a better grade plastic that holds up much longer than the DX, and still has good grippiness while releasing cleanly). With more experience I've learned to really like the Destroyer for its constistency when I need to hit particular lines in different wind conditions. For my best distance into headwinds, I'm usually choosing between my Destroyer and my seasoned Star Corvette.

Summary: The winter time distance driver.

Feel: GStar is the plastic with the most grip, great for people with clammy hands and those that usually use chalk bags. It may just be mine, but the GStar plastic has made my Destroyer very domy and very glidey. The wing is also fairly rounded, making it comfortable and easy on the palm.

Flight: The glide that the dome gave to my destroyer made me feel more like a pro with how it flew farther than my Champion one. It may not have gotten any extra understability, but it still flew over the Champion one with ease.

The Blue Bomber, my 172g 3-year-old blue GStar F2, is, to this day, one of the most reliable drivers in my bag, despite playing in Nevada rocky terrain, and despite owning over 900 discs (granted about 1/3 of them I haven't thrown yet, I have problems). This thing will turn at full power with flat release for sure, but it still has reliable fade at the end. It's rare that it turns and burns and I've thrown this 500 feet before. I'd say I throw this on average 400-425 and might be the easiest 400 in my bag (gstar corvette might like to have a word though).

This thing also is indestructible. I don't think it will ever become not useful at this point. It's compacted itself into immortality. It hasn't chunked once despite hitting a thousand rocks. 3 years later and this thing is a 12, 6, -2, 2. There isn't a disc I would be more sad to lose, despite the fact its an F2. I've spent many many hours searching for it this winter in the snow. I would have given up for every other disc. I should probably not throw it in the snow but man, it's the perfect winter disc.

The destroyer has been reviewed a million times so I will keep my thoughts to the gstar plastic only. We all know that the star/champ destroyer is the long bomb disc of choice for pros. But us mere mortals usually only get a hyzer factory out of it. This is where the G star destroyer comes into play. In my opinion, the gstar destroyer is much more like a shryke or a tern. In fact, I would describe it as -- even new out-of-the-box – as flippy. I've been using a mid weight one as a forehand distance skip-shot disc. I would say that if you have an arm in the 300 foot range, this is something you could put in the bag, consequently, making this *somewhat* beginner friendly.

Love this disc because of the high winds I usually play in. Be warned, it's not a great beginner disk. Super overstable, I know I don't have the arm speed for it yet. If you get it, work on it and be patient

What can I say about this disc that hasn't already been said? There's a reason that this is a staple in so many players bags. I throw predominantly Trilogy discs but the G Star Destroyer is virtually the only mold I carry outside of that. It's just perfect for my forehand driving style. I currently bag 3 in different stages of wear. I don't have the strongest arm but I can get these out to 280-300 feet and I know exactly how it will fly. Recommend for any intermediate or higher level players. The fade on it may be too much for beginners.

My first true disc golf awe moment was my first release with the Star Destroyer in 2002. Out driving my other drivers at the time by 70 ft. Fast forward to close to 20 years later and it's replacement in gStar plastic, it still has tremendous flight and I really love the gStar plastic. Amazing grip and snap potential with good durability.  It took about three months to get back to my throw back but this is a solid disc. There does tend to be some serious inconsistencies between Star and champion plastic runs in my experience with the six that I've had but they all have a use. The rim depth is good for players learning to throw large diameter lids and this will always be a favorite of mine.

The destroyer was one of the first disc I bought. As a beginner I thought I would get the best rated disc. I was wrong. When you start out you really don't have the ability to throw a 12 speed disc and expect it to do what you want it to do. Every time I threw the disc it would hyzer greatly and wouldn't go far. Now that I've been for a few months and have developed better form I can throw this disc now and it seems to be pretty good. The fade is a little more than I like, but if you need that fade to get around some trees down the line it has a good turn at the end.

I absolutely LOVE this disc. In a somewhat open to open hole I always reach for this disc first. I can get some crazy distance with the Destroyer. The GStar plastic is amazing as well. Very grippy and durable but not stiff like a champion plastic. If you need a distance driver that can be your work horse and throw some crazy shots, get a GStar Destroyer.

I kept reading the hype about this disc. I was worried about the variance in the mold but took a shot with one in GStar plastic as I've enjoyed the feel of that plastic with other molds that I have during these cold central NY months. I've only been out for one round with this disc but so far it LAUNCHES out of my hand. I'm all in on figuring this disc out and waiting on my Star plastic version to show up in the mail as well now.

So, today, I was finally able to actually get a decent amount of time with this destroyer in my hand. I have a yellow, 138g, Gstar destroyer. And I loved this disc immediately, first throw on hole 1 at my local course rang the chains and popped out the left side(closest non-ace I've ever had. Anyways, today I was really able to get a good number of launches on it so I could really get it down pat. I'm learning the flight path and the trajctory, etc. Just learning the disc. And Today was the first time I ever broke 400'. And I did it probably 10+ times. With many other SUPER long throws as well. I can hyzer flip it and it goes a mile. But when I just throw it flat, just a tad right of my mark, it'll go right, almost nearly just a straight line to the right for EVER and if I can get it up to about 15 feet or so at the highest point in the flight it'll come back left for a nice soft fade finish. I was always a FHRH player because that's how I always got most of my distance. But I primarily throw this RHBH. And I have NEVER thrown anything this far this consistently. The more I throw it the more I love it.

So I've played disc golf for a good few years, 3-4 years, then quit for over a year and now I'm back and have been for about 14 months now.. Since getting back into it, I dove in head first and have been really getting serious about playing again. After watching numerous videos I decided I would get a Destroyer. My arm isn't a noodle but it isn't a cannon either. So I decided to go with the gstar plastic to get a little bit more of a flippy disc right out of the box. And there was no disappointment there. I made this purchase after losing my go-to driver which was a max weight tye dye champion Daedalus.(SUPER UNDERSTABLE) and I LOVED it. My arm started to come back and it started to become way too flippy for me when I would really crank out a forehand. But on shots where I was throwing 60-70% it was perfect and flew a mile. One downfall to the Daedalus is it only felt comfortable in my hand for forehand throws. And I was looking for a go-to driver that felt comfortable in both grips I have. So, after losing the Daedalus I decided to go with something a little more Overstable that I didn't already have in my bag. And came across the 138g Gstar destroyer. (Light weight so I have something that floats) And let me tell you... When I say I can launch this thing I mean, I CAN LAUNCH THIS THING. Forehand and backhand alike. It's by far the longest disc in my bag I'm curious to see how she beats in because I've only had the disc for a week. But if everything I've read is true then I should have a nice replacement to my Daedalus in no time that will fly similarly yet won't flip to a roller as soon as I put some power behind it. I'll update after the beat in process with how I feel then. But for now. I LOVE THIS DISC. Lol.

I've purchased two Star Destroyers. One a generic star stamp, one a Wysoki Raptor stamp. The generic one is incredibly overstable, and thus I haven't beaten it in. The soki  one is my go to driver for distance. I use it forehand and backhand. Great disc, but the discs are inconsistent between molds it seems.

I don't know where to start on my experience with destroyers. I have never had the same experience with each one I have owned. I first owned a GStar and for a little while I loved it because it felt like a -1 and 3 disc. -1 and 3 discs are my favorite. But once it broke in I despised that disc, it instantly turned into a -3 and 1 disc, usually never came out of a turn, and I retired it after that. Next I bought a DX because I saw it at a Scheels and so I figured why not, the problem with this disc was instead of starting -1/3 it was understable from the start. The disc works amazing for a roller though. I then owned a champion destroyer and it honestly didn't perform as well as my Discraft Zeus and it didn't help I was burnt out due to my past ordeals with the disc.
I understand I am in an overwhelming minority with my experience and opinion on the destroyer but it just was not the disc for me.

My G Star Destroyer is one that I found on the course, but was unable to return to its owner.  It weighs in the mid 160s and it is truly beat to crap.  I have never seen a more beat up disc that will still give a good flight and isn't just an insta roller regardless of the release angle.  While I'm sure this disc started much more overstable like a typical Destroyer, its flight now is most comparable to my Mamba, which is to say incredibly understable, but still very much usable.

Of all the discs I own, this is probably the disc that I can throw further than any other.  I don't have the arm to get a full flight out of a regular Destroyer, but I'm able to do much better with this disc.  Thrown flat, it will spend almost its entire flight turning hard to the right, before a slight fade at the end.  I have to put it up in the air to be able to see this fade.  With a hyzer flip, this will give an extremely long glidey S shot.  If I keep this disc low, I can get a cut roller out of it every time, though because it's so understable, it doesn't do a great job of holding the roller line.  I'd rate this particular disc at 12 / 6 / -4 / 1.

But the G Star Destroyer you buy here won't come super beat in like mine, so you'll want to read the other reviews for more of an idea on how it will fly when new.  But just know that if you can hold onto this disc for a long time, even when it's incredibly beat up, it can still be a very valuable disc to have in your bag.

This disc just bombs.  As I've seen my power go up I started looking at faster discs that could keep up and the Destroyer is awesome.  As a RHFH driver I love the consistent flight path of this disc.  Every time I think its hooking a bit too much left it flattens out and then fades hard back to center.  And the distance is just fun.  This thing flies at least 30 feet further than any other disc in my bag and the GStar plastic is so reliable with the grip and release and has survived many a tree with no change in flight pattern.

I tried out two different 175 Gstar Destroyers X-Outs and they fly like how I expect a Destroyer to fly for the most part.  One is definitely more stable than the other, but on a flat drive they'll both turn over a little bit for the first 60-70% of the flight, then straight for a little bit, and then fade out pretty hard.  One is about as stable as a Star Wraith and one is slightly more stable.

I really like the feel of the Gstar plastic in any conditions.  I tend to have dry hands and any extra grip I can get is appreciated.  It's soft in the sense that it's flexible, but it's not soft in the sense that hitting trees is going to rip it up like a DX disc.  I haven't used a Gstar disc long enough to really compare how it wears to regular Star plastic, but it seems durable to me.

I don't know if it's the rim or something else, but I just don't trust a Destroyer the way I trust other drivers so it's not my favorite, but it's still a great disc.

For my review of the destroyer see the star destroyer listing. The G star destroyer, It flies like a destroyer, the rim feels like a destroyer, the wing looks like a destroyer, it must be a destroyer. It is but out of the box my 175 G poptop G star destroyer actually flies straight and then has the predictable fade. The G star plastic tends to be the most understable innova plastic and that holds true with this mold. If a star destroyer is too much and the pro plastic is wearing in too quickly, try G star. I feel like the G star is a good middle ground of how quickly the disc will wear in and how stable its going to be. My only complaint is the G star plastic itself. Though this disc is a great flyer, the plastic kills it for me. It's just too soft. In the freezing cold its great, feels like a softer star, but when its warm out forget about it.

Amazing forehands right out of the box. I'm somewhat of a beginner and I've had a Pro Destroyer for a while now that's wearing in and becoming slightly flippy. When I get a good rip on it, it's my max distance driver. So I figured I better get a new, more stable one. I love how grippy the Pro plastic is, and I don't mind the Star plastic, but the G Star is on a different level. So much grip with the same durability. I went to the local park to work on my forehand game. Right off the bat, this thing was amazing. Very tight S-curve with a solid fade at the end. I can rarely throw forehands more than 275 feet. I threw this one 4 times, and 3 of those went for 300+ feet! It was beautiful. Haven't tried it backhand yet, but I imagine it will be a little too fast and stable for me to get a long, flat flight out of it just yet.

I love the feel of this disc, and it found a place in my bag very quickly. This disc isn't the best for beginners as it is a 12 speed, and if you can't throw it with a whole lot of power, it does turn pretty quickly.

If there is one distance driver that you will see consistently in the bag of professionals, it is most likely a destroyer. These drivers are great discs, almost the gold standard of distance drivers. I had one in my bag for a few months now. I still can't throw it to its capability yet. I would not recommend this disc for beginners at all. I only throw it on a few holes where I can throw as hard as I can without much concern for accuracy. As I've developed my game, I can use it some, but a slower speed is better. Again, fantastic disc, but only for intermediate players and up.

You should know by now that the plastic type really effects the way a Destroyer flies. I own a handful of Star Destroyers that all fly differently. For the most part, I'd say a 175g Star Destroyer is a little bit too much for my arm speed (unless a headwind is present). I really haven't thrown them enough to beat them in properly. Then, I found myself the owner of a brand new G-Star Destroyer. Once I learned to throw this more understable varient of the Destroyer, I've logged my furtherest drives with this disc. I love ripping this disc with everything I have and watching it make a beautful S-curve in the air.

At 172g, it's a bit lighter than i typically like to throw. This particular G-Star plastic makes my Destroyer much more understable than my Star Destroyers. I would even say my G-Star is more understable than my Wraiths.

It took some practice getting used to. I actually like the feel of the G-Star plastic. I feel like I can really grip the heck out of it. I can release it on a moderate hyzer and it will slowly flip up as it rips through the air. Depending on the angle of release I can manipulate it to drift to the right for a little bit before fading back at the end. It's not as strong of fade as my Stars though. I only throw this disc backhand. I prefer a much more stable discs to forehand, but that's my style. If I throw this disc like I forehand my Firebird, Boss, or Ape I willl flip it over into the ground.

I really liked this plastic type in the Destroyer.

I got a 172g GStar Destroyer and just got back from field testing it. I used to dislike destroyers because I didn't have the armspeed to throw them properly. However, now I feel like my armspeed is adequate to handle this disc. During my field testing, I threw the destroyer further than any other disc in my bag. The ability of the destroyer to hold the hyzer sold me on this disc, especially in a stout headwind. However, if I throw my destroyer flat, it will turn just slightly to the right before fading hard to the left. This disc also held up to my forehand, never flipping over on me. I see this disc becomming a staple in my bag and I can't wait to get my hands on more of them. I really would like to try a star plastic, but the GStar felt great in my hand!

The Destroyer is my go to distance driver.  It is great for both backhands and flicks.  You can shape a nice S shot with it if you anny it right.  When I found my first Destroyer I wasn't particularly fond of it.  I didn't have the proper technique or arm strength so all I could get it to do is meathook.  As I improved I fell in love with this disc and how consistant and reliable it is.  I throw a 172 GStar and can always count on it to do it's job as long as I don't mess up mine.  I have 5 Destroyers and my favorite plastics are GStar and Star.  Highly reccommended driver.

Fair warning, this review of my particular 168g Gstar Destroyer is going to be an anomale. I was given this disc when it was already warped from hitting trees and continued the trend. It doesn't have deep cuts or anything like that the gstar plastic is pretty resilient in that aspect, but now half the profile of the disc is visibly warped. As such, this Destroyer has become one of the most interesting understable drivers I have ever seen. I hated it at first and never used it, but now it has a very important place in my bag. If thrown flat and hard (RHBH), it will wander then suddenly hit the ground hard as a roller, but always on such an angle that it will finish to the LEFT. I also use it as my roller too and when I throw it as a roller it will finish to the right and roll pretty well. If I throw it hard on a hyzer it will flip up flat, wander just a little bit and fly just about as far as my drives with other discs with a finish to the left. It is the most versatile disc in my bag except any headwind will make it behave as if had a -5 turn. If I throw it flat and give it enough air time it actually will do an S-curve, but otherwise it is turning into a left-finishing roller. Other than that, there are so many uses for it, I plan on holding onto it for a long time.

This disc tought me that numbers doesn't always matter. I was looking for a replacement for lost DX Boss, and since there was none of it in the store at that time, i bought the Destroyer (has only lower speed by one, therefore will flight pretty much the same, right?). No! Although it doesn't fly anything like I thought it will, I don't take it as a bad purchase - it's the most stable driver in my bag now - it will handle almost any speed, torque or wind. It's also great motivation for me to get better (throw faster).

I love this disc, it's great if you can get it to glide. It took me a couple of rounds to get it to fly the way I wanted, and I was only a beginner. Overall it's a great disc that will be loyal to you.

    Great for all skill levels

I throw mostly sidearm. This disc is very stable and reliable. I used to throw a Boss but have recently switched over to the Destroyer because I'm more consistent with it.
