The Leopard is the classic, straight-flying Innova fairway driver. This disc is very popular in starter sets thanks to the reliable flight path and limited fade. It’s not the fastest flying disc (speed 6) but new players will likely see more distance with the Leopard than just about any other disc. While the Leopard is great for beginners, it can be found in bags of more advanced players as well. With moderate throws this disc is perfect for weaving between narrow lines of trees. It also makes a good turnover driver that slices to the right, and a good roller disc as well. If you want a great disc to perfect your throwing technique, buy a handful of inexpensive DX Leopards and head to a field.

The Leopard is the ultimate disc for begginers looking to gain more distance, or the more advanced plays looking to hyzer-flip a narrow tunnel shot. This disc should have a spot in anyone's bag for it's versatility!

The Leopard is one of the classic discs from Innova. Many players experience the Leopard when they're a beginner through the Innova starter packs. I think because of this, a lot of players think the Leopard is a beginner disc. But in star, this disc is very straight to slightly understable. I'd put the numbers a little closer to 6/5/-1/1 or even -.5/1 when it's new at about 330-350'. As the disc beats in, it gains a little more horizontal movement, but from fresh to beat, it is very controllable. I'm a fan of the star Leopard over the champion because it comes out a little flatter, but I'd imagine the champion might be a tick more overstable.

Excellent control driver. throw on slight hyzer for gentle flip to flat up to 320', or throw flat for beautiful gentle turnover if you don't have a good forehand. If you throw under 300' this is a surprisingly stable driver, good for controlled hyzers and straight shots with little fade.

Flies like if a mako3 was a driver. Brand new star plastic goes dead straight for 315ft. Mine beat into a beautiful slow flip to flat with almost 0 fade. No marks down for the flight pattern, but the rim is just a tad bit too small for me at a 6 speed, which is why only 4 stars from me. Perfect beginner driver, and excellent understable control driver for intermediates. Great for kids or folks with smaller hands.

I mainly use this disc in the woods for utility shots and not for driving. If the fairway starts straight and then hooks to the right I reach for this as the fade isn't terrible. With some extra juice it will turn over and will usually land where you need it to. DX plastic is extremely flippy but I'm really enjoying the star plastic and can't wait for it to beat in a little more.

I love this disc.  Its a great slow fairway driver. Very easy to get it to flip up to flat from a slight hyzer and have it get a full "S" flight.  It is on the slower side of fairways making it easy to get up to speed.  Very comfortable in the hand with a narrow rim and is a joy to throw. I find myself grabbing it for a wide variety of shots.

One of the first discs that I felt like was able to get real distance with, until my arm speed got faster, highly recommend for newer disc golfers.

    172 gram Star Leopard

The Innova Leopard is a fantastic fairway/control driver.  It is the first driver any beginner should try.  There is a good reason it is included in the Innova start pack.  The star plastic is durable with great grip.  I mainly use my leopard for hyzer flip straight shots.  It is slightly understable and has great glide.  The Leopard can definitely vary some depending on plastic and weight.

Had a DX Leopard as one of my first discs.  Lost it and replaced with a Star Leopard recently.  Great purchase. Still one of the best straight flyers for low speed drives out there!  Highly recommended for beginners!

The leopard is a great disc for learning to throw backhand. My starter set leopard was too light and by the time I learned to throw a good flip up shot with it it had hit too many trees. I think I got one good 9 hole round out of it where I knew how to use it and it hadn't become extremely flippy.  I still wasn't ready to throw faster stuff so I replaced it with a heavier one in star plastic, and it took me a couple weeks to get the turn out of it but once I did it became very useful. The star plastic is tougher and more stable so even though its taken a thrashing it still fades back after the turn.

If you never liked your starter set leopard or if you think you've outgrown it I would highly recommend trying it out in better plastic

The DX Leopard was my very first disc. I fell in love with disc golf throwing it. I now have a Pro Leopard and a Star Leopard both at 175-grams to go along with my DX. It continues to be one of the best discs ever. The more experience I gain playing disc golf, the more I appreciate my Leopards. It is one of the most consistent discs available and absolute staple in any bag. My Pro Leopard is so much fun to throw. It is accurate and precise like a Leopard. This disc is categorized as a distance driver and it is. But its midrange capabilities make it so widely useful and reliable. I have a friend who puts with it as well - (DX Plastic). One word that comes to mind the more I throw is control. And that's where I find the Leopard so reliable. When I feel I need to go back and pick up some control in my game, I ALWAYS reach for a Leopard.

I have this disc in Star Plastic 175g.  If I had to do a one disc round with a fairway driver I think this would be my choice because of its versatility, I am comfortable throwing this forehand (control forehand only, with power this can turn when I don't want it to), backhand, for touchy woods shots and for backhand distance.  My Leopard is more stable than the numbers, it will turn just a little on a crank (slight hyzer release) and finishes left.  If I release on anhyzer it will gently fight back for the finish.  I have had other Leopards in the past in lighter DX plastic that were very flippy, so I can attest that Leopards will not all fly the same, not sure if it is more related to the plastic or the weight, but I love mine in Star plastic, great grip and has whacked a great number of trees without much (if any) change in the flight.

This is the disc that finally convinced me how stable Innova drivers are in Star plastic.  The Leopard is a classic understable fairway, but in Star (even at 166g) this thing is pretty stable.  I tried to get it to turn, but it won't unless I force it over.  And it has a decent amount of fade.

A useful disc, but I was really looking for something more understable, this has the same stability as my champ TL3.  But slower.  Good for a beginner as a stable driver in this plastic, it doesn't need much arm speed to do what it's supposed to.

The Leopard is a staple disc in my bag. I purchased this in Star plastic and instantly fell in love with it. It is a great understable disc for beginners who are looking for a disc that does not require much power to get it going.

Star Leopard (175g) - This is one of my most reliable discs. I play mostly in fairly wooded courses in North Carolina so it is helpful to have a disc that will flip to flat or flex just a little bit for 200ft straight throws up tunnels. It'll finish a little to the left if thrown with a little hyzer. It was my first ace too!

Back in the bag. They are underrated in recent years. In low wind conditions and if thrown with the right speed, they have a little turn but dependably come back to straight. I don't have to throw them hard to reach 280-300 foot gap/tunnel/straight holes. I throw my star leopards with 70-75% power for medium-short holes and my champion leopard 80-85% to go a little farther with the same straight flight. I throw them straight at the basket.  When I miss the circle, it is usually because they are more stable than I expected (rather than the other way around).

This is my first driver as a beginner (well, excuse me, I actually bought a Destroyer first and we all know how that goes).

Just get this. This is the disc you need if you're a beginner. Now that I've played a lot more I can consistently get this where I want it to go, and I can even do a cool little roller with this disc as well.

This is your beginner disc. Get it and throw it at least 30 rounds before contemplating on more discs.

The first time I threw the Leopard I had been playing for about a year and I burned it over. I thought “This disc is terrible!” 2 years later after actually learning good form and a smooth pull, I came back to the Leopard and absolutely LOVE it. Beginners and experienced players alike can find a spot in the bag for the Leopard. Pull it flat at 80% power and it will take a beautiful S line. Great disc for hyser flip lines through the woods. I bag 2 Star leopards for all my throws through tight gaps or anytime I want the disc to fly straight and land without much fade. I’m so glad my form improved and I came back to this classic disc!

Good beginner driver.  Was probably the first disc I was able to get out to 300' with a good tailwind behind it. I still keep one in my bag as my go to fairway driver with a tailwind or if I need some turn.

Would not recommend in a headwind or a crosswind as it can flip over easily.

This is a great disc for learning how to throw a driver. Don't give it to a beginner on their very first time out (seriously, just start them with a putter and a mid), but once they've figured out the basics, the Leopard is an ideal first driver because it's about as slow as drivers come and it's pretty easy to hyzer flip. The only problem is that, once you get past the beginner stage, it becomes really awkward trying to fit the Leopard into your bag because it overlaps with a lot of the longer mids on the market nowadays. I still like the Leopard, but I don't throw it nearly as often anymore because I feel like I get the same distance and more control out of a mid.

    Star Leopard 175g

The Star leopard a under stable fairway driver that everyone can throw and utilize. When I had it in my bag I was looking for a replacement for my under stable fairway driver that I had lost. When I first threw this disc it had the most beautiful flight to it. I threw it on a slight hyzer and it popped up flat and held a slight turn for the longest time. This disc is great for beginners and everyone should start off with this disc in their hands when they are starting to play. It is easy to throw and I wish I had started off with this disc.

For the more advanced players they can use this disc for a wide variety of shots from hyzer flips to sky annys and rollers. This is a very reliable turning fairway driver that can easily controlled.

Do you want a disc that you can buy, and never take out of your bag? The Leopard is a disc that every level of player can use, and it does what it's meant to. It's the most consistent, proven disc for a controllable turn, and a disc that every beginner should own immediately. I've had my leopard since I began playing, and I haven't found another disc that will take the place of it. If I need a shot between 260-320 I'll pull out the leopard every time if I need a controllable anhyzer shot. There are many molds and weights of the leopard, and it's easy to find one that will work for you.

Profile: One of the (if not the best) shaped discs ever made. Thin rim, low to moderate on the depth. Feels great in most hands

    Flight:

STAR: Plastic makes a big difference with Innova and I love the flight out of my star plastic. I always get good turn with a bit of fade at the end. A small S each time.  What I love about this flight is it is so glidey that i just seems to keep going without a lot of power.

Dx 150 class: The numbers are pretty spot on for this one, 6/5/-2/1.  Perfect disc to learn to backhand with.  Great for kids too.  If you could only buy 1 disc to try out disc golf with, this is the one you want.

Final thoughts: This has been out so long that I think people forget about it. It is one of the best discs ever made IMO.  What I think is so amazing about it is no matter your skill set, beginnner- advanced, you can find a spot in your bag for this disc.

A great, reliable fairway driver. For those learning to use a driver, it rewards good habits and forgives mistakes more than a lot of other fairway drivers out there.

Use the Leopard as a first step in learning proper drives, and you will not be surprised that it still has a place in your bag long after you master distance drivers.

My favorite fairway driver. USE RANGE: 120-300ft. Snap it hard & get a nice right turn (RHBH) or throw it easy and watch it go straight as an arrow. Leopard is a good, straight flyer with a slow fade at the end of its flight. The star plastic is extremely reliable and very grippy.

The Leopard is my baby.  In my opinion, the most unique disc, as no other manufacturers really have a comparable Speed 6 driver.  That's rare these days.

I throw 350 RHBH and use my Star Leopard as my go-to anytime I need to shoot a tight gap on a narrow fairway.  The Leopard is my best friend in the woods, and It's also nice for just throwing beautiful straight shots out in the open, as well as shots that gradually turn to the right, holding a nice line all the way through.  Super versatile disc.

Again, my #1 favorite disc golf disc.

My absolute favorite new disc. Which is saying something seeing as I've been playing for 8 years and this is considered a classic. The more I'm getting disheartened with the high speed drivers the more I'm looking for slower ones I can use instead. And the thing is I can't see that much difference in distance. Not saying the leopard is going to fly 400+ but its every bit of 300-375 and what it lacks in length it more than makes up for in accuracy. And I'll take accuracy over distance any day of the week.
