The Leopard is the classic, straight-flying Innova fairway driver. This disc is very popular in starter sets thanks to the reliable flight path and limited fade. It’s not the fastest flying disc (speed 6) but new players will likely see more distance with the Leopard than just about any other disc. While the Leopard is great for beginners, it can be found in bags of more advanced players as well. With moderate throws this disc is perfect for weaving between narrow lines of trees. It also makes a good turnover driver that slices to the right, and a good roller disc as well. If you want a great disc to perfect your throwing technique, buy a handful of inexpensive DX Leopards and head to a field.

    GStar Details

GStar is a fantastic ultra premium plastic blend by Innova. The plastic offers a unique metallic shine that not only looks good, but it is also incredibly grippy and flexible (you can literally fold a GStar disc). This plastic blend is especially recommended for playing disc golf when it's cold outside.

Bought it for my little brother who is a beginner. Perfect driver for him, couldn't do any better than this. The understability lets him get a nice straight flight that might have otheriwise faded out early with a typically-straight disc. The half star off is because he found the GStar plastic disconcertingly "floppy" at first, especially in the summer heat. It's not actually a problem, though, just takes some getting used to. I suppose it's down to personal preference, because I quite like it.

Although this 6speed comes in starter kits, this minimum speed requirement is too high for anyone in their first days or weeks.   However, after playing frequently for several months, this becomes quite usable.  Now that I'm less of a noob, this definitely flies closer to numbers than when I wrote my first Leopard review.  My original Leopard(dx) has become a -3 1 and is great for long anhyzer shots, and I bought the GStar to replace it and get what can be expected of a -2 1 ish, and I expect gStar to remain like that for a longer period of time.

I didn't want to get a Leopard3 after I saw that it's simply 1mm thicker right at the wing's edge (making it more blunt-nosed and less aerodynamic, which the modest added distance confirms), and of course, the 1mm extra in rim width, and the accompanied higher minimum throw speed (neither of these seemed desirable to me).  I have the Heat for the same type of throws but more distance than a Leopard, and that choice has been rewarded with results.

I noticed in drone footage of comparative disc reviews on youtube, that the Leopard's turn starts sooner, producing a more even and consistent turn, than say, a disc with an overmold of which the turn takes notably longer to begin.

But there is one thing that really annoys me about the Leopard;  when I throw it harder to get more distance, even thrown flat, it will climb in altitude like none of my other discs would.  And the dx version did exactly the same as the gstar.  I aim it as usual, as for my other discs, wanting to go for a relatively flat flight, and instead shoots up gaining altitude, and of course, with that will come a stall, fade and loss in distance.  If I throw it almost nose down, it does better, but I always have to make a conscious effort to throw what feels like an incorrect nose-down throw.  Sometimes I'll overdo it, and may end up with an air-bounce (without touching the ground), which isn't always bad. But it just goes to show how sensitive it is to nose angle.

This is a great workhorse fairway driver. Great for beginners but also stays fun to throw as you get better. Prefer it to the Leopard 3.

Favorite disc ever, great for all skill levels just need to select the correct weight. I have owned this disc for 3 years now. You can put this puppy on a line and it holds strong. My most common and trusty throw with it is a backhand flex and it holds for 100'-250' depending on power then settles out nicely. I recommend this disc for everyone. I want more but I cannot find Gstar anywhere!!..

This is one of my most thrown discs in my bag.

I love it for long straight shots and hyzer flip turnover shots. I also will occasionaly use it for short rollers or tomahawks when I find myself in trouble.

I feel like the disc takes barely any power to go a good distance making it great for beginners and intermediate players like myself.

    Disc - 170g GStar Leopard

    Ah, baby's first disc

I've thrown several of these in various plastics. DX, Champion, Star, Pro, GStar. I settled on bagging a GStar Leopard because I find it to be the most true to the numbers out of the box.

What can be said about the Leopard that hasn't already been said? When I first starting playing disc golf I got a DX starter Leopard. I couldn't throw it very far and I could hardly tell you what the proper flight of any RHBH drive was supposed to look like. But then one day I threw a beautiful S-curve and watched that $5 starter plastic go for miles (probably around 200 feet) and I fell in love with driving. However, my next throw flew immediately into a roaring river and I was devastated. But my good friend lent me his beat Pro Leopard and I was back on track. This new Leopard I swore to care for and not throw in the water. I practiced driving and eventually that beat-to-death Pro Leopard was my workhorse. I didn't lose that one in a lake until much later.

Fast forward some time and several Leopards later, now I'm throwing a GStar Leopard and consistently getting that beautiful S-curve. I'll always have one of these discs in my bag. I throw all sorts of different shots with this thing. I can hyzer-flip it for a long controlled straight shot; I can throw it on a slight hyzer and get that S-curve around trees; I can throw it flat and hard and watch it turnover like I just threw a RHFH. Truly a versatile disc for a 6-speed.

Players of all skill levels should throw this disc. There's a reason it is included in virtually every Innova starter pack.

Get yourself a Pro or a GStar Leopard. Avoid Champion Leopards unless you know what you're getting into or find a beat-in one; they are significantly more OS out of the box and not very Leopard-like.

My first version of the Leopard was a clear champion disc that I loved.... but the dang thing was near impossible to find after throwing it. My other speed 6 - 8 fairway drivers are all G-star including my newest Leopard. I love this disc for getting a gentle s-curve or a a slow turning shot that won't fade back. Most people hate on G-star plastic but like I said earlier, I like it for my speed 6 - 8 discs for some reason.

The leopard is a must own disc for any beginner, and it should be everyone's first driver. I used to feel this way about Innova's Valkyrie, until I threw a leopard. I love the gstar plastic for this disc. It just feels so perfect in my hand. The leopard is easily controlled, and is the perfect driver to use off the tee for pretty much any par 3 hole I have played so far. You don't need amazing arm speed to get the perfect s-curve out of this disc almost every time you throw it. Seriously, if you are new to the sport, or you just can't seem to get other drivers to do what you want, get a leopard!

For playing in the woods this is my go to driver. I also use it as a straight midrange disc. It’s so controllable and feels perfect in my hand.

Ah, the Leopard. A deliciously controllable fairway driver in any plastic. I find the GStar is a bit more understable than star and especially champ plastic. The courses I live around are either tightly wooded, or a rough almost desert landscape. My home course is actually spread over dunes and the remains of an old World War military base on the East Coast. Needless to say, the terrain is rough and this GStar plastic didn't take long to beat in. This particular Leo quickly became my go to hyzer-flip disc. It is also my favorite option for a big sky anhyzer. With enough air under it, it will eventually fade and land flat, sticking right where I want it to land.

I also throw a 175 Champ Leo that holds up better to the landscape, though its much more overstable than its counterparts in other plastics. I can still get a good turn on the Champ Leo, but it has a much more consistent fade, making it great for tight tunnel shots.

Lastly, I picked up a super light weight DX Leopard at a tournament, thinking to give it to my wife, but it somehow stayed in my bag. It turns over for me IMMEDIATELY, but I've thrown some of the most ridiculous hyzer-flip to anny shots, that will fade a bit right at the end. Also fun for short rollers, either FH or BH.

I think this is a very beginner friendly disc! I don't use it much now, really only for backhand turnover shots. But it definitely is a great disc and I will probably keep it in my bag for quite a while if not forever.

I absolutely love this disc. I can throw so many different kinds of shots with it on the course. Its typically used for tightly wooded straight shots where it can flip up a bit from hyzer and cruise 250 feet into the open. As I've played with it more often and its started to become beat in I can now release with a slight anny and watch it sail to the right on shorter dog leg rights. Very versatile!

a absolute must for new players. i shaved at least 5-8 strokes per round just because of this disc. helps new players work on their form. i might have to get a few in different weight and plastics. i have the gstar and it is so grippy and beautiful flight. might have to get more of the gstar after i have mostly champion plastic.

I absolutely love the gstar leopard I use this disc for any kind of tunnel shot. This disc is like a laser beam it is probably the straightest flying disc in my bag. If you are looking into disc golf and don't know which one to get this is the disc it is very beginner friendly alowing slower arms to get decent shots but it is not easily turned over and can still be used by intermidiate players to get good fairway shots out of it .

I have found the GStar leopard to be the most important disc in my bag. I'm a new player, but I do play in tournaments and the Leopard is the disc that I have the most confidence in. Easy to throw and control. GStar plastic has a great feel, wet or dry. This is my favorite disc.

I personally enjoyed this disc alongside my Cheetah; while the Cheetah allows for much more stablility, this disc is an excellent choice to keep in your bag; once you get use to it, your throws will become extreemly consistant, and quite predictable. An excellent choice for the newer player.

This is a great short disc. It's in the same distance ballpark as my midrange (Buzzz) but is not such a stickler to the line, which is useful in a lot of situations. This is a great disc for beginners moving into distance driving, as it's a straight flyer that seems to do what you want it to do. Worth having for more experienced players in short hole situations.
