This disc is a pretty solid driver for beginners in my opinion, I'd say there is probably better but this was the disc that helped me get back into disc golf after a long hiatus. The champion plastic on mine had a extremely sharp edge around the bottom of the rim for whatever reason,  making it pretty uncomfortable to hold with certain grips, but this is otherwise a solid disc and is potentially better in a different plastic (though I can't say for sure)

This disc goes far for me but does not trade consistency for distance. My Champion Valk turns ever so slightly but then gently fades for a consistent finish. My favorite driver currently.

I have thrown the Valkyrie consistently for all 10+ years I have been playing disc golf. The Valkyrie makes a fantastic first higher speed driver for beginners, but also can fill a useful hole in a lot of players bags. I use the Valkyrie for all types of shots, but it really shines for tunnel shots, especially low ceiling, that need to finish straight. I like to release it on a hyzer and watch it flip up and carry forward without deviating much at all. I can also throw a Valkyrie pretty much just as far as most distance drivers, I just need a lot of room for it to flex right and come back.

I am giving the Valkyrie 4 stars because the mold can be inconsistent, especially in champion plastic. I have seen Valkyries be as overstable as a thunderbird, or as understable as a roadrunner brand new. But if you find one that is true to its numbers then it flies great.

I tried this disc a few years ago and it was pretty inconsistent for me. The grip was ok but it just seemed like it acted different every time I threw it. Sometimes it flew overstable other times it turned on me. It didn't make my bag.

Is a great disc to pick up as a first disc or someone without tons of power. It will reliably have turn. It also has great feel in the hand. I really enjoyed this disc as I have been progressing my form to throw further and further.

My flight ratings are slightly different as I never have the disc flight like a stable disc would. As a RHBH thrower, the disc turns a lot and always ends on the right of my line. The disc isn't super beat in or anything, it just turns a lot for me when I go for max distance with it.

If you are on the fence about picking one up, its a great disc and there is a reason why so many people rate it well. It turns enough for lower power throws and will reliably go right (RHBH) with decent power.

The valk is the disc that ever beginner seems to gravitate towards as they work their way to up 9 speed. I have been throwing a bliz champ valk 159g for about a year and continue to reach for it time and time again. The only time I throw any other disc for max distance is when the wind picks up.

I have found that the full champion valk, like many other innova discs, is wildly more stable and wasn't all that useful until I built up arm speed. Even now I would rather throw my bliz valk on hyzer than a regular champion valk in most situations.

If you are a new player a Blizzard Champion Valkyrie is one of a very short list of discs I would recommend for your distance driver slot.

Pretty solid fairway driver for beginner/intermediate players. It quickly took over for my dynamic discs escape in my bag but has since been replaced by my Discraft Undertaker. All three discs fly pretty similarly but I like the Undertaker's consistency and feel in the hand better. The Valkryie will flip up to flat on hyzers but has less flippyness than the Maul at similar turn.

148g Champion Plastic - flies like a little bit faster leopard. I love the weight of this disc because I get a good amount of spin and velocity on the throw without doing a full reach back which allows me to be more accurate with hitting my lines. The flight is just a steady slow turning disc that will not fade back to the left till the very end of the flight if at all. I can get about 375 feet of distance with only doing a half pull back and good wrist snap. Being able to get this kind of distance with a throwing style that gives me more accuracy has helped out significantly on holes with tight gaps.

I have a 175g Champion Valkyrie too, I threw my first Ace with it. It flied more stable than my light weight valkyrie. It would have a legit S turn on high powered throws. I don't bag it currently because I can get similar flight paths with more distance from other discs.

Great disc for beginners and advanced. Easy to learn how to shape shots and get good distance for beginners. I learned how to throw the DX plastic first and after beating it up traded up for a champion plastic. It took me a little while to love it again in the champion plastic but now its very stable and my go to disc for driving on holes 280-300 on a straight line.

When I first started out, the Valkyrie was one of my easiest discs to throw.  It was great for beginners learning to drive since it fights to stay flat.  As mine has aged it has become a lot more touchy on the speed you can throw it at.  Mine is a champion plastic which made it a tank, but it has slowly become more of a roller or slow throw disc.

This is a great driver for a newer player's first foray into distance drivers. Super comfortable in the hand, even for smaller hands. Out of the box this will give you nice S lines and great distance. For more intermediate players or stronger arms, this will be a nice turnover disc.

For me personally, this disc was more understable than I was expecting, even in Champion plastic. That's not a bad thing though, and it still is in my bag and a disc I throw often. I got this and a Champion Sidewinder at the same time when I was a newer player, trying to get an easy to throw distance driver. The Valkyrie ended up being more under stable than the Sidewinder. I don't know if that was due to an inconsistency with the Valk or the Sidewinder, but regardless this disc ended up being what I wanted the Sidewinder to be and kicked the Sidewinder out of the bag. Early in it's life, on a good flat rip it gave a nice, healthy turn before always coming back. I also had no forehand, so this was a great disc to throw on anhyzer and watch it hold that angle for nearly the entire flight before just panning to a flat finish. Nowadays, as my arm speed has improved and the disc has beaten in a bit, I need to release it on some hyzer in order for it to flip up and fly straight. Released flat it will turn right and continue that way for most of it's flight before fading back slightly. Releasing it on anhyzer is too much for this disc now, it burns to the ground, but it could be a useful roller (if I ever can learn that shot). All of those shots are still useful and thus it remains in my bag. I give it a 4 because it was not exactly what I was expecting it to be in terms of stability, but this is a fantastic disc and if you're looking to bump up from Leopards and the like, this could be your farthest flier and driver workhorse.

It went far. Like really far. Like... REEEEALLY far. I have only been playing for a few months and I learned really quickly that distance drivers are not for me just yet. But the speed on this really caught my interest. If you are a beginner and starting to get your arm speed up a little bit, you are certainly missing out on not having this in your bag.

This is an interesting case and for my specific disc it is terrible for beginners. The Valkyrie is supposed to be a speed 9 and when hitting that speed threshold is supposed to have a nice s-curve, however, for the Champion Valkyrie that I ordered, it was actually incredibly overstable with no turn at all. It turned so much that I thought it was a mis-labeled disc. Since then I have beat this disc in and it still seems incredibly overstable. I know power isn't the issue since I know I am hitting that speed 9 threshold without issue and unless I throw it with anhyzer (RHBH), it will go straight only for a bit and then go hard left. In fact, my Firebird goes straight for longer than this disc; (straight with a reliable hard fade left)! Again, this is not for ALL Valkyries, just the one that I have.

Where do I start! This disc was one of my first name brand drivers, when I'd been playing with a 5 dollar set of WHAMO discs from Walmart that didn't even have names. I actually got this disc out of a lake next to a whole I played with my brother often. When we first got it, we were so excited just to have an Innova disc, what we didn't call the disc the Valkyrie, we called it the Innova, as if that was its defining feature.
Anyways; the champion Innova I got was my favorite driver for the few months I had it, but when I threw it into a bunch of undergrowth on a rainy day, I sadly never found it. I eventually got a pro Valkyrie, but with my increase in arm speed since I'd last thrown a Valkyrie, and since Pro is more understable than champion, I really never took a liking to this disc. But I will say that this disc is a good starting driver for a beginning player, with its understable flight ratings being perfect for beginners

    155g Champion

Got this disc in the Champion Innova Starter pack and it has been one of my favorites. For a while, it was the perfect disc for long straight hyzer flips. After hitting a lot of trees, it has become too understable for long straight shots and has become better for long turnover shots. Still a great disc, just used differently.

    175g Champion

My friend recently purchased a 170g Pro Valkyrie and let me try it out. After trying it out I have to say I was very impressed. It naturally felt good in my hand, flew very smooth, and for the most part pretty accurate. The very first time I threw it I probably threw it a comfortable 220 ft, but when we got towards the end of our game I probably threw it about 250 ft. After trying his out I thought I would get one of my own. I purchased a champion plastic one as that was the only plastic in stock when I checked. I will say I kind of wish I got it in a lighter weight as it flies more like an overstable disc for me as I don't have the fastest arm speed. However, I still like this disc. If I have a open look, 280ft or under hole, I love this for a hyzer shot. It just seems to naturally hold that line perfectly for me. Honestly think this is a pretty great disc and highly recommend it if it's not already in your bag. I do recommend adjusting weight and plastic for what feel and flight you want for your disc.

This was one of the first few discs (in champ) that I bought when I started playing many years ago. Initially, it flew more like a 9/4/0/2 and was quiet stable, dumping left before getting a full flight. However after getting beat in (honestly took about a year with moderate use), it now flies more true to its listed flight numbers. That being said, for beginners, this disc in Champion or Star plastic will likely be frustrating. I would highly recommend that players new to the sport buy this in Dx or Pro, allowing them to fully utilize the understability of the disc to get a full flight. Once you have developed your form, pick up this disc in a more premium plastic and beat it in (realizing it will take a while) and you will have a great disc for many many years.

I have a 157gm Champ X-out Valkyrie.  It is pretty flippy for me and I don't have a very strong arm (max distance about 300').  With some practice on different release angles, you can get some nice turnover shots or hyzer flips. It doesn't have the glide of some of my other drivers, such as the Tern, Krait or Beast. It is a nice under stable driver to have for turn over shots or late turning shots.

Disc - 174 Innova Champion Valkyrie

Feel - The Valkyrie is very comfortable in the hand as it has a smaller rim and fits nicely for both forehand and backhand shots. Champion plastic is extremely durable but the grip is not great in less than ideal conditions.

Flight - The Valkyrie is fairly more understable than I expected. It definitely will hyzer flip and hold a turn for most of the flight. It was a little bit unpredictable for me but a few people that i play with swear by this disc. If you have a slower arm speed this can be a great straight tunnel shot disc or can be used for shot shaping in the woods. I prefer the dynamic discs escape in the slot as it is just a bit more comfortable in my hand and a bit more stable in my opinion.

Overall - The Valkyrie is definitely a disc that newer players or players with less arm speed should check out. If you have a high arm speed and are looking for a turnover fairway driver this disc can also fill that slot as well.

I am pretty new to disc golf. Only been consistently playing for the past two months. This disc is by far my favorite control/distance driver. I have it in champion plastic and I love it. Around 160g is the right weight for me. I can only drive the disc about 340 feet at the most, and this disc has been a tremendous help to improve that number. Not only is it good for distance, but for me, it's fairly easy to control. My arm strength is still not great, but I can get the valkyrie to turn up and glide straight for a long time and have a reliable finish left. I actually think the glide is great, maybe even closer to a 5.

Overall, this disc has and continues to help my driving form and helps me get that much needed distance for those out of reach holes. This disc is sure to take strokes off your rounds in the future. Highly recommend.

I bought this disc, used, to add another 9 speed understable driver to my bag, to go along with my Sidewinder. I really enjoy this disc. When I throw it righthand backband it is super understable and dumps to the left as it finishes it's flight. It has a great flight path and is wonderful for wooded fairways.

I have a 150 gram Champion Valkyrie that my brother gave to me when I had decided to start learning how to throw a disc golf shot correctly.  Even by the time I got it, it was already a well-used disc, but since it's Champion plastic, it's still in great shape.  I expect that my Champion Valkryie may not be representative of Champion Valkyries in general, but it's the only one I have any experience with, so here goes.

The flight numbers for a Valkyrie are listed at 9 / 4 / -2 / 2, but my Champion Valkyrie flies more like 9 / 5 / -3 / 1.  The main type of shot I throw with this disc is a flat release (or close to it) that continues turning over for almost the whole flight, as it will hold an anhyzer for a ridiculous amount of time with its glide.  A true story: I once released this disc with anhyzer in a wide open area and had turn nearly 180 degrees and land behind where I threw it.  With a tailwind or a hyzer release, I can get a nice S curve out of this disc.

Since I wasn't the first owner of this disc, I'm not totally sure when my disc was produced (it does have flight numbers printed on it), but the Champion plastic on this one is pretty gummy and gives a great grip in addition to being nearly opaque, whereas the more recent Champion plastic I've tried is very stiff and nearly transparent.  My Valkyrie is also very domey, unlike most other Valkyries I've seen, which have a mild dome.

There is a reason this is one of the most popular drivers in existence; especially for beginners. It feels great in the hands. It's easy to get a full flight out of it, and it has a pretty predictable flight. The first disc I ever owned was the DX version of this disc and I couldn't get it to do jack, but little did I know way back when I first bought it that I simply had no clue what I was doing and was trying to throw this thing like a frisbee instead of a disc golf disc. Youtube didn't exist back then, so out of frustration I quit playing (after 2 tries). flas forward to 2019 (16 or so years later) and I am now in love with this sport and the Valkyrie is a tried and true staple that should be in everyone's bag; even seasoned players. Let me explain.

It's a great driver for beginners, but it's also a great disc for more experienced players and players with faster arm speeds. When I need a disc to go right (RHBH), and still get some distance, or if I need to produce an easy hyzer flip, then I simply reach  for my Valkyrie (and sometimes my DD Fury if I need more glide). Unfortunately, my Vakyrie is at the bottom of a pond at one of my local courses, but as the water warms up, I'll be going in to get that back, you better believe it!

Champion Valkyrie (175g) - I really really like the Valk mold and have at least one in each of the Star, Champ, and Color Glow Champ plastics. As one might expect, I think the Champ plastic is just a little more stable with a little less glide. I found it harder to throw backhand with the same turn as Star. But of course the Champ plastic is very resilient. I think if you have a faster arm, you may enjoy the Champ plastic more than the Star.

The Champion Valkyrie was my first true distance driver. Though listed as a control driver, expect to get some serious rips out of this thing. Very overstable disc that you can learn to finesse with a lot of practice. I would not recommend this to a beginner unless they absolutely cannot live without having a driver in their hand. There is a learning curve that comes along with any distant driver, but this disc will truly start to mold into the disc you want it to be overtime. Sharp fade left that can be very useful in certain situations and handles the wind like a charm. Don't underestimate the power this disc delivers; I ended up losing my transparent yellow disc in some heavy woods. I would definitely try star plastic for my next go around in a hot pink or bright blue. Great for hyzers and tricky spots. Just to recap: beginners won't get the distance they want with this disc, but as one's form improve, this disc can be a blessing. Expect a hard left fade.

The Champion Valkyrie is one of the best fairways ever. It is the best intro disc for a beginner to a more durable plastic but also something that is understable enough to still get over on as a beginner and still have it come back at the end. If you can throw  250-300 this is a great turn over driver or straight flyer on a lot of hyzer. It is reliable and all Champ Valks have the same feel. They feel great in your hand and they are in my opinion the best beginner to intermediate drivers out there.

I have loved the Valkyrie since the day it was released. It is a very comfortable disc to throw. Easy to keep on a straight flight for shorter drives, and capable of huge flip shots in a tail wind. I think this is a disc type that every player should learn to throw. This lower speed control driver that can be abused for big distance is an important shot to have in the bag

I got my first Valkyrie from a buddy of mine when I first started playing. I have since bought a Star Valkyrie as well. This is a good beginner disc in my opinion. I throw sidearm and this disc was able to get me more distance   immediately. I am able to throw this very consistent and it always flies with a little bit of an S-curve. I tried the Leopard and it always turned over on me so it was nice to finally get a disc that gave me more confidence as a beginner. I have a lot to work on as far as form goes but I would definitely suggest bagging one of these if you’re just starting out. Both Champion and Star plastic has been good for me and the speed of this disc was just right for my drives.

The champion is most OS for me also gives me the most turn for a nice long S curve. The star and pro are more stable they flip up for me and finish left everytime I get most distance from champion plastic I bag a lighter weight 167. (Star and pro are 170) the rim is small and each of my discs have a little dome to them. If you really  crank on them they will roll at times but for my slower arm speed it has not happened often. Would not recommend as a forehand disc.

My go to driver every time. The Valkyrie was recommended to me by a friend when I first started to play and since then it has been my go to disc for just about everything. Mine is 175 g and when you combine that with the slow speed, i have been able to get a lot of distance and consistent flight patterns out of this disc. I throw a left handed flick, and it flies laser straight almost every time with a slight finish to the left at the end. I would highly recommend this disc to anyone just starting, or for novice players looking for a disc that will hold a straight line. It has been in my bag since the beginning and will be one that i carry as long as i play.

a big hyzerflip disc with a reasonably straight flight. gets some serious distance on big throws. really can save you on poor throws too. very forgiving disc in a sturdy champion plastic.

Usually I compare the different plastics in the reviews I write, but in this case, I've seen no patterns, so I'll just review them all as the same run and plastic.

    Flight:

The first Valkyrie I got was the 4* Juliana Korver Champion Valkyrie. It served as my first high-speed driver for years. It started really straigh for my (back then) 100-120 meter throws. Over the years it got real flippy on me, just like worn discs do. This was the one Valkyrie that acted anything like the numbers suggest.

During the last year I've thrown a handful of other Valkyries, a couple new ones and a few old ones. A couple of the old ones have still been really over stable. They felt more like slightly deeper rimmed Thunderbirds. One of the brand new ones was really flippy. I could feel that -2 turn out of the box.

    Conclusion:

It seems that the Valkyrie, in general, is fairly over stable new, but quickly beats in to resemble the flight numbers it has. But you might have to buy yourself 10 of them to find the ones that suit you. So in short: a great disc, but the level of "wear" it has out of the box varies a lot.

My experience with the Valkyrie is limited but from the few that I tried out they weren't great. 2 were champion and 1 was pro and 1 was star. The champion ones were very stiff, one having a large dome the other being flat. The domey one was very overstable. Not firebird overstable, similar to a thunderbird with a bit more dump. The flat one was actually really nice. It would flip up to flat, drift right and then finish soft netting me about 360' worth of distance. The star one flew pretty similar to the flat champion one and the pro one is very flippy. These won't be replacing my CD2s any time soon but they are a decent disc. Just make sure you know what you're getting.

If I didn't ever try a diamond, I would think this was the greatest next step disc for a developing player who has mastered a midrange and who wanted a taste for big distance. I had two champ valkyries and they are consistent and responsive. I gave my valkyries away because I switched to Discraft's Heat for the places I'd generally throw my Valkyrie and also because my Valkyries were very light (150, 155) and went to folks with weaker throws who wanted to try something a little higher speed than a shark or a cobra. It's a nice disc. Again, I'd recommend the diamond over it, but you could do a whole lot worse than a valkyrie.

I found an unmarked Valk the other day on a course with no lost and found. Field testing it has been a pleasant surprise. This thing flies where you put it. It is almost like my Buzzz, but longer. If it fails to go where I intend, I know it's my fault. This review is a bit premature, but I thought it worth recommending, especially for beginners because it will help you learn to throw properly. A good release is always rewarded with this disc and its versatility (holds anhyzer/hyzer lines, and fades only very late on straight throws) means it will likely stay in my bag. Distance is sneaky long and it doesn't require a monster arm to obtain it.

This is my go-to distance driver for control and predictability. This IS a great disc for beginners and players with a slower arm speed, but it's also a highly effective disc for experienced players once you learn what it can do. I bag 2 PFNs and a Champ as a more OS option. Bag one today!

For those not familiar with Innova plastics the flight of the disc varies drastically depending on which plastic you have.  I would even go so far as to say that a valkyrie is actually four different discs depending on which plastic you have.  My champion valkyrie is probably 10/3/0/2 and is my primary sidearm disc.  Thrown with a little anheiser, it flies with a beautiful s-curve to about 300 ft.  The g-star valkyrie is more like a 9/4/-1/2.  I can throw it BH to about 375ft with a nice amount of turn to its flight.  If thrown with slight heiser, it will flip up and go straight for a long way with minimal fade.  Pro valkyries are approximately 9/4/-2/3 and in my experience they beat in very rapidly.  I currently only bag the champ and gstar.

This is the first driver I had, in DX plastic.  I have one in champion now and it's one of my farthest disc I carry.  I got that DX one from a starter kit to S curve the first weekend I played dick golf and I was hooked.  The champion plastic is a much more reliable and predictable flight. Wether you use the S curve for max distance or to get around obstacles, it's this discs signature.  Once you beat one in you can use it for rollers and long turnovers.  Great all around control driver.

This is one of the best 9 speed drivers out there in my opinion. It was one of the first drivers I had, and will fly straight for beginners. For more experienced players, it can be a good disc to throw a nice, long S curve type of shot. It is as controllable as a fairway driver, but can also get really good distance. Also a good disc for improving your side arm throw

I have had this disc in my bag for years with different plastics and I loved it. The first disc I ever found was a valkryie and I fell in love. It tends to be very stable and good for long range throws. It will end up taking a pretty hard left (for RHBH) on the end.

This was my first true driver that I ever owned and will always be somewhat special because of it. This is one of the better drivers for beginners to start throwing with since it is a understable and doesn't have too much speed on it. I would also suggest getting a more durable plastic, like the champion plastic, so that the flight characteristics last longer. This disc is great for most types of drives, especially if you need a bit of an S shape on your shot. It doesn't have much fade at the end, adn the turn gives it more length for the beginning player. I've used this disc in open fairways and even in tight shots in the woods. If you are looking to pick up a disc with a little more speed to learn to throw drives on, or if you are looking for a driver with a S shape flight, this disc is for you! I highly recommend it.

Some may say that it's a little fast for a beginner. Coming from an ultimate frisbee background, the speed of this driver worked just fine for me. Definitely helped me learn my form.

I would recommend this as one of the most beginner friendly discs out there, if you are considering getting one-- definitely try it out.

There's a reason I refer to this disc as "Ol' Reliable" in my bag. The disc does everything; S-shots, hyzer flips with a straight path, gliding anhyzer shots..... you name it. If I could only choose one driver for the rest of my life, I'd choose the Valkyrie.

The Champion Valkyrie is one of the best discs out there. It can offer a nice flight pattern to a beginner and a professional alike. If someone is looking to get their very first distance driver, the Valkyrie is almost always my suggestion. I used to have a gummy 150g Valkyrie that I would put into the hands of anybody who had never played before and was just coming out for fun. I saw some new players getting 350+ out of that disc on their very first day!

The Valkyrie is so straight at lower arm speeds but can even be useful at faster speeds. I see plenty of pros that still keep a Champion Valkyrie in their bag for massive anhyzer bombs, or rollers. The Valkyrie has been dependable for a really long time, and still is today.

I personally like a really stiff champion Valkyrie. One time I threw a stiff Valkyrie and it was almost as stable as a Thunderbird! The Valkyrie is just a really dependable, really awesome disc that anyone can benefit from using.

In my opinion, this is one of the best drivers ever to be made.

Great control and accuracy for all skill levels.  I would say this is a great disc for a rec or intermedita player to learn how to control a drive.  I feel it's great for Adv players for a control driver (you're not going to get the max distance out of it but it will go far enough for most courses)

Flight numbers are true.  I recommend Champion or Star plastic around 170-175g. It is comfortable, has distance potential, can be controlled and shaped as it will bend a little at high speed but isn't flippy and will straighten out and hook hyzer back in the end.  Overall a straight flight but takes a smooth S shape to get there.  Great disc, I bag at least 1 at all times.

My first disc (6 years ago) and still one of my favorites. However, I don't carry it anymore because I've lost 3 champion valkyries and it just seems to be a cursed mold for me since I always lose them. It's a great beginner disc because you can make it hyzer, anhyzer, and everything inbetween. I personally think it's great for tomahawks too. While it has been replaced by different discs that better suit specific shots or distances for me now, I still love playing throwback rounds with the Valkyrie. It's consistently straight with a nice S when thrown flat or slight hyzer and it's smaller rim always feels good in the hand. Overall a great disc to learn and simply to have.

This disc should be in every bag.  It flies straight, with some ok fade/skip at the end.  Over time a seasoned Valkyrie will become a goto disc for tunnel shots and tight lines.  I feel comfortable throwing this on holes as short as 220 where a putter or midrange would be best suited.  I also feel comfortable throwing it under my drivers in the 300 range.  You can just do so much with this disc consistently and you do not have to put much effort into it.  I would say this has been arguably my most consistent and trusted disc for 10+ years, and that is saying something since I am a notorious disc swapper.  A seasoned Champ Valk will never leave your bag!

This is an excellent disc for the more expirenced player, who has their technique down enough to pull off some nice driving distances -- I got this driver as a newer player and found myself unable to control the disc, even though the disc came in a pack marketed toward newer players -- After some time, and as my skills developed, I grew to love this disc. Between this and my MVP Servo, I can dominate most drives.

Oh, did I mention that glide? It is most excellent!

This is the disc I've thrown in the most plastics: I bought a used Champion Valk, and that has been ne of my furthest flyers since day 1; I found a Pro Valk, and it flies very similarly to the Champion. I also found a beat up DX, and was surprised that it too flew in a very similar manner to the others. Classic mold, great disc for all levels, in all plastics. In short, this disc is a winner.
