175 gram Innova Beast DX plastic. This was one of the first discs I bought when I started playing disc golf. And fortunately it was a good choice. DX plastic is affordable, beats in quickly, and is generally less stable than many premium plastics. The Beast feels good in DX plastic and was very easy to throw for a beginner and pretty forgiving. The only issue I had was after some collisions with trees it became flippier and harder to control than I wanted. I got a big right turn and a little fade back left for about 330 feet, a distance I am still happy with, but instead of landing on a straight line, it ends up about 50 feet to the right. I was able to throw it on a very generous hyzer angle and it would still flip up and turn over. And at that time I could not do this with a 7 speed fairway driver so it seemed a little ridiculous for a 10 speed driver. Anyways, the point is the Innova Beast is a surprisingly easy disc for a beginner to throw and get good distance from. But think about your plastic choice carefully. If you chose DX, it might not last long. I liked the Beast but replaced it with a MVP  Wave after a few months in a more durable plastic.

This is the very first driver I bought and threw. I learned my backhand throw on this disc and would recommend it to any other beginner if given the opportunity. It's a reliable disc, even for beginners. Beginners can also get a decent, long drive with a beginner backhand from this disc. I would give it a perfect rating if I could throw it forehand, but forehand throws on this disc never work out for me. I'll always have this disc in my bag because it's what I learned on and it's a go to if I need to complete a sketchy backhand throw with confidence.

In DX plastic the Beast might be great for someone just starting out... like 10 year old. Anyone with any amount of power is going to turn and burn this disc. If you are just starting out trying to throw far this might go great with your DX Leopard for 2-4 weeks before you graduate out of this plastic. If you want something to throw over a hazard it might be an option. Otherwise, you should grab a different plastic or a different disc entirely.

The Beast was my first high speed driver. It was in Pro plastic. I was a beginner and it was still probably too fast for me at the time, but it was a good disc to grow into. It's a fine choice for a first 10 speed disc. The rim isn't too deep and the flight numbers make it pretty forgiving. Like most discs, it's fairly dependent on what plastic you get, but these discs are for the most part straight fliers with nice S curves, ranging to understable hyzerflippers when beat in. I think the numbers are pretty straight on and it's basically a longer Valkyrie.

I still have my old Pro Beast, but mostly for nostalgia as it's crazy flippy now and I don't bag it anymore. I've tried a few Beasts since and they're fine, but a little squirrelly for my taste. They're also a bit of a tweener disc for more advanced players. If I need distance, I'd rather club up to a Wraith for more distance and reliability, and if I need control I'd rather go with something a bit slower and more accurate like a Thunderbird or Undertaker. I've moved on to other molds but I still have a few buddies who swear by the Beast. Good disc to check out if you're looking for a first distance driver.

This is a great disc for beginners if they want to throw high speed discs. This disc has a great stable to understable finish to the end. I mainly use it for hyzer-flips as it is quite beat-in for me. I recommend it for people who want to feel that they can throw drivers properly.

    171 gram, DX plastic

In one word, I would say this disc is, JUICY. I got this disc a couple months ago, at a time when I was just starting to throw around 300 feet. The Beast is the perfect disc for where I'm at skillwise (leaving beginner and becoming intermediate). I can throw this 300 feet consistently, which is completely new for me. Now when I'm looking at a big field shot, my eyes get real big because I know I'm about to crush one down the pipe. The Beast just feels like it was made for my slightly larger than average hands. It has a lot of dome to it and the rim is slightly concave. It feels like a classic old school driver, which it is.

The -2 turn is very real. This thing flips up from hyser to flat pretty quick and keeps going right after, but resists turning over and eventually fades back left for a beautiful s-flight every time.  Basically exactly what the numbers would suggest. This s-shapes flight allows for some interesting shot shaping in the woods but i mostly just throw massive hyser flips in the open and watch this thing swerve through the air forever.

This would make a great first distance driver for a beginner, although I think people should start out throwing 7 speeds or 8 at most. But if you're approaching the intermediate stage and want to add distance off the tee, hurry up and buy this disc.

This was one of my first distance drivers that taught me a lot about release angles and power delivery. When it was new, it quickly became a go-to for me as I developed arm speed, but over time other discs have filled the stable/slightly understable slot for me. I gave it to a friend who now uses it as a distance bomber for the same reasons I used to. In the end, it became a little too flippy for me both BH and FH, but still a good disc.

This is a great disc for beginners looking for a backhand driver.  I was always surprised during fieldwork that this disc would touch 350 when others like the Destroyer and Wraith were around 300-325.  Not to say that this is a better disc than either of those two (it's not), but for growing arm speeds it's perfect. This could be a disc that you grow into as you learn to control it, but for me, I have other discs that took its place in my main bag.

Great disc for Forehand players going into a headwind.  The fade on it is a bit aggressive so it's harder to throw backhand at my arm speed level.  It took me a while to learn this disc but it is one that I can trust when the situation calls.  Top 5 disc in my bag and would recommend if you need an overstable disc.

A great introduction disc to shot shaping and it grows more understable as your driving speed increases. A very predictable and controllable distance driver that is very beginner friendly. I preferred the DX plastic as a beginner because of the great grip but the downside is it takes a beating as you start hitting big distance.

I have been playing for a fair bit. I've thrown overstable, stable, understable, heavy, light, great, awful, remarkable, and average. I've thrown every disc, man. I've thrown every disc. Having said that, in a lot of ways I am still very much a beginner. That's fine! I'm not a professional and finding the time to be on a course that much is tricky with a full time job, family, cats, other hobbies etc. Having said that, I suppose I have some real trouble understanding why more Innova team members wouldn't throw the Beast. With how relatively little I play compared to pros, I have a literal mixed bag of discs, and I'm only really sold on one disc that I will always have in my bag. For better or worse, that's the Skeeter. Judge me if you wish; let thine matters without resolve be without regard. What's done, is done. I want to communicate exactly how often I find myself reaching for this one, though, save for windy days. I initially wanted to change the flight ratings but they're about dead on, like most all of Innova's products. With a straight release the disc will wander left but return home like a kid who saw the streetlights come on. It's also a sneaky good hyzer disc, it will retain that upward climb thanks to its ability to turn but hook back in to nail the green like an artillery shell. There is one thing that comes to mind, though, for possible reasons it might not be a favourite. I am worried about the DX plastic really beating in. Maybe I'm in the la vie en rose stage of a bad relationship where things will sour too quick for me to catch up. Oh, no. Maybe the Beast's parents will slowly turn into religious freaks, or it'll become too demanding and only want to go out to the 18+ bars.  I never liked cats but maybe it'll force me to own one. What a nightmare I'm living. I told you I don't like onions but you add them to everything anyways. Yeah, you can pay for dinner too, but it's okay, I'll cover you and your vapid friends tab for the millionth time. Anyways, at the risk of dealing with my ex Mallory in disc form, I will turn a blind eye and keep throwing.

PROS: Great top of the foodchain fairway driver. Cliche, but reliable in its flight.

CONS: If it were a person, it would have a cold soul and be a bad kisser.

it's hard putting together the ideal bag as a newbie in this game.
First thing you'll notice is that while the center of the disc is stable and a bit heavy, the outer rim doesnt stick out much and is light. As a sidearm thrower, this gives me the ideal feel. Most of the courses I play are tree heavy (more on that later) and obviously its imperative to keep my drives down. I feel confident doing this given the awesome glide I get on this disc. If you hit your line, you're money. The disc will do exactly what you expect it to do. This also applies to mid range side arm shots, especially if you need to hit a narrow gap to get to the basket.
One complaint, unfortunately. This disc will get nicked up and bruised after your first round, especially if you throw it as often as I do. The durability just isnt there. I'll probably have to start putting it on a pitchers count of sorts to not the destroy the thing, but man, I wish I could use it on every hole.

This was the first disc I bought. I didn't know anything about disc numbers, drivers, mids, putters, just wanted a 'frisbee' that looked cool. I found this to be a great first time driver. It has a nice understable line that fades back to the middle. I throw forehand and have a good amount of power so the 10 speed was just right for me starting out. This disc has since been replaced by higher speed distance drivers and lower speed fairway drivers. I still recommend it to new players as their first driver though. The DX did not last long with the amount of trees I hit and quickly became too flippy to use, now I bag it just a get out of trouble hammer throw. I would definitely recommend going with a better plastic.

Ok so here's my take on this disc- I've thrown it a few times, while two of my friends have had worn-in beasts in dx plastic. They were a workhorse and reliable driver for a while for them. However, with more arm speed, there then becomes the issue of turning over. On the dx plastic, when worn in, this thing becomes a bit too much of a roller, especially in situations where you need it to fly. Overall a solid disc, but just caution yourself, as it tends to turn over relatively easy once beat in.

Found one of these and after multiple texts with no response decided to try it out. As a beginner coming from Ultimate I love the worn in beast. It glides extremely nicely and if i throw it right I can get more distance than any other disc i've tried.  Unfortunately I got too cocky with it and tried to cut a corner over water which was a terrible idea. I ordered another and am awaiting my new one.

The only plastic I have tried the beast in is DX, so I never really liked it very much.  DX beasts tend to be pretty flippy and inconsistent, so occasionally I had the right angle on the beast and it would fly pretty far, but it was too finnicky for me and eventually I turned it over too much and lost it.  I think a beat in dx beast could make a good roller though. I imagine the beast could be good in premium plastic, but I've never tried it so I don't know.

The beast I'd say is probably the perfect beginner disc for a distance driver especially for backhand throwers. This disc is a 10 speed so it is a good practice for most beginners before they move onto something like the zeus, star destroyer, PD, or a ballista. You don't need the best of an arm but you still need a good arm for this to fly well. The turn and fade even out so if you throw well it should essentially be a straight line. Only thing though with this disc is that I'd recommend getting something of a much better plastic than a dx id say go champion or go star plastic. For grip and glide I'd go champion but for a longer flight that may be a little bit more overstable than a dx go star plastic.

I think the beast is a really good beginner distance driver in DX plastic for many beginners. If you are understanding how your putters and mid ranges are flying and can control them a beast is a good step up. This disc might start out slightly too stable for a lot of beginners but with the DX plastic it will break in really quickly and start to fly exactly how a beginner needs. It might start out as a disc that beginners need to turn over to get a full flight out of it but as it beats in they might find themselves throwing it flat or on slight hyzer and geting a full s-shape shot. I have quite a few friends with low armspeeds that love their beasts and get massive distance for their armspeed. I found that the beast was a little too understable for my liking, if it was beat in any significant amount and I powered up it would turn and burn right even with quite a bit of hyzer. I really think this disc shines for beginners in the DX plastic, but I could see more advanced players still finding this disc useful in something like star or champion. Some advanced player might really like this disc for a roller when it gets beat in, but personally I just didn't vibe with it after it was beat in.

I have been having some trouble keeping discs straight that have some turn to them, but I have really been loving the beast! I have kept this in the bag in place of my valk. When thrown on hyzer, I can get this to straighten up nice and fly for a long time. I have not played much with it in the wind so we will see about that. But on a calm day, this is a great disc to throw for me off the tee on 350+ foot holes. This disc feels great in your hand too!

A great driver that I picked up while on vacation just wanting to play a round down in San Diego area. It flips up and turns over a bit, but will also fade back left at the end of flight. I can get a good 350ft out of it with my very average arm. Got it in DX plastic, so it has gotten pretty beat-up and will flip over pretty heavily after not a whole lot of use. Would love to try a champ or star disc instead.

I have a yellow flat top 170g DX Beast, and it doesn't do much but roll... More understable out of the box than anything else I've tried. I suppose it could work as a tailwind driver in a storm, but otherwise it'll roll every time. Not really what I was expecting, but as a roller it works great for those roller shots where you have to hold a low line on release and need a disc to turn fast enough to start rolling when it hits the ground. I had long, consistent rolls for some time, until it got beat in, and now it's not as predictable and harder to control, like a Wahoo or something.

Thought this might be good to know if you're about to order one...

It has been ran over and made me realize exactly what happens when a disc has been broken in. There are many shots I couldn't do without this disc, and even though it's very beat up, I couldn't bare to kick it out of my bag. Despite the numbers, it tought me as a beginner many things. This is without a doubt the first disc that I've had to buy multiples of because I always wanted to make sure I had one in my bag.  First disc I ever threw, and though I've only been playing for about two years now, this disc is the one that helped curb my habits to help increase my playing level.  I reccommend a DX Beast for ALL beginners to try out.  At first, you won't get stunning results, but when you learn how to really rip the disc, you'll notice a few things over the lifetime.

    1. You'll without a doubt be able to throw this thing STRAIGHT for 300+ feet.

    2. When you start to beat the disc in a little bit, it becomes an awesome anhyzer disc.

    3. You'll want to buy the GStar plastic model.  And the Star.  And the Champion.  And the Pro.  You'll just want them all.

The beast was one of my first discs. As a beginner you can expect some accuracy and distance from it in any plastic. Once you develop form and technique this disc in DX and Star will be good distance and straight to under-stable fliers for most everyone, the star plastic has a tendency to "s" more. Champion beasts will be a bit over-stable ending like a star beast except following a straight line. This disc was in my bag for a long time until I learned to control more distance discs like the boss. Anyone looking to start or rethinking their technique should highly consider this fantastic disc in their favorite plastic.

The Beast is one of the most versatile workhorse disc on the market. No matter what plastic you get it in, the flight characteristics stay the same. Get a Dx Beast and beat it in, and you will have a great tomahawk or thumber disc. Get the champion plastic. And you will have a great back and straight flyer. But if you don't have one in your bag, then your probably still searching for a go to disc for your trouble spots.

This disc is outstanding! I have the dx @152 and the champion @ 173 and with it on my first drive I through it past the pin after deflecting off a tree! Beast!!!

Great disc, in DX plastic its pretty understable. When i first started this was my go-to driver, Its got reliable fade, although not very much of it. Good overall driver

Love this one! Very easy to turn this one over for a long backhand drive curving to the right. For me, the Beast soars, leaping out of my hand, and sometimes going too high. Great distance driver.  Updating this review 3 years later, I can say I still have the same DX Beast in my bag.  It's now very beat in and still soars exactly how I need it to.  It'll hold long bomb anhyzer lines perfect!  I'm almost scared to replace it with premium plastic.

My first foray into drivers was a Beast, not knowing that some slower discs would have been more appropriate for my skill level. Still, the Beast is a fairly forgiving disc, and pretty easy to throw. Mine was a second-hand DX and pretty much had a lot of the stability beaten out of it by the time I got it, which helped me throw it. Now, it is a pretty reliable hookshot disc, but not flippy for my rubber arm. Good disc.

A great BH and FH disc. Extremely reliable and easy to throw, like the Archangel is. You will not regret purchasing it. The success I experienced with it was in DX plastic only. Cannot speak about how well it goes in higher grades. Great for mild anhyzer forehands particularly.
