I've thrown a beaten in big z heat that was so understable it would turn and burn from any hyzer angle, and I've thrown a fresh z-line heat that was so stable it wouldn't turn over unless you put it on anny and it flew more like a slower, fresh wraith. Both had their uses, but I bought the z-line hoping for something understable like the big z and was very disappointed.

Picked one up at a disc golf pro clinic and immediately fell in love with it. Gave me a lazer straight flight when hyzer-flipped, or a long arcing s-turn when flat. Super easy to throw and the Z plastic feels good. It was also the disc I used when I finally hit 300 feet of distance. For refrence I am a youth beginner.

I really enjoy throwing this disc. It is good for long turnover lines as I've developed more distance and arm speed but was still a good disc for distance when I had lower arm speed.

Great understable fairway driver. Love throwing this forehand as well as backhand flip up shots as it has some nice glide. I can also crank this disc on quite a bit of hyzer and just get it to ride the hyzer the whole way down the fairway. It fits great in my hand and I love the z-line plastic. I occasionally throw a roller with this disc but generally its for shots I either need to keep something going directly down the fairway about 300ish ft. I think this would be a great choice for beginners wanting a disc that travels far for them that is pretty controllable. For more advanced players it'll be a nice turnover disc or flippy roller.

I have only owned/thrown this disc in the ESP plastic, but as it was not an option on the drop down menu at the time of this review, I chose the Z line plastic.

I feel like a broken record if you've read my other reviews, but like all Discraft discs, this disc does not fly like the flight numbers would indicate. It's more like a -1.5 than a -3. It does get great glide though and is a fun disc to throw once your expectations are lowered regarding the turn. My son bags a Z Heat as well as a Z Flex Heat and loves them!

Personally, I just can't get past the cheap feel of Discraft plastic and the fact that it just doesn't feel as grippy as other  manufacturers. I have tried so many different Discraft discs, but the ONLY Discraft disc I bag is a Cryztal Flex Zone. And it will most likely stay that way too.

I picked up the Discraft Heat in my continued pursuit of easy to throw discs, and the Heat did not disappoint! The elite level glide paired with the disc's understability make is such an easy thrower without sacrificing distance. I also find the Heat super useful in maximizing distance when I have an uphill drive.

I have the Heat in Z-Line plastic and have definitely appreciated its durability in standing up to some substantial tree hits! :)

If you are a beginner looking for a disc to extend you driving distance, the Discraft Heat is an excellent choice!

The Heat is an excellent first driver. I learned to hyzer flip with the Heat, and it's a great disc to maximize distance with low arm speeds. Every beginner should be given this disc after playing for a month as their first experience with a driver, and though I lost it before I was able to start turning over discs, I imagine it would serve excellently as a longer turnover when you're just learning to throw such discs. The Heat is a great disc to learn throwing specialty shots, learn throwing for distance, and eventually learn throwing rollers (once again I assume, I haven't started throwing rollers).

What this disc can do and what it is used for all depends on your arm speed!

A fast arm speed and I love this as a roller and is a great option for a tight barrel roll thumber / tomahawk (believe it or not this can be used to carve up lines in the woods).

Slower arm speeds can use this for further distance without adding a huge ani angle to start with.

From beginner to pro this fits special spots in a players bag.

I love this disc for backhand rollers. If I get the right angle on it I can throw this on a roller for over 400 feet. I don't rely on it as a straight flyer because I tend to turn this one over just a touch and usually find a tree before I get the full flight. It is a great disc for beginners wanting to move up to distance drivers because it has a higher speed and can help you find out if your arm can handle some of the speed 10s. I don't love the feel of this disc because of how domey it feels but once you get used to it then it can definitely be a useful disc to keep in your bag.

The Heat is a great control driver because it stays straight for so long! I throw my Heat best backhand. Since it is understable, it goes too far left with a strong right hand forehand (RHFH).

I love my Z Heat. It took some getting used to and I am a newer player, but once I threw it a few times I was able to get some pretty good distance. It's understable and can be thrown really straight. I like this disc for RHBH but I have not really been able to get a good RHFH throw with it. It tends to end up rolling. But I love it for straight RHBH drives. I will definitely have one of these in my bag for a while.

This disc is very understable, and I can get this disc to flip up to flat and sometimes even flip up and turn over. I throw LHFH off the tee and this is my go-to disc if I need a straight flight with little fade at the end.

I love this disc so much I picked up one for my wife who is a beginner, and within a few rounds she was able to RHBH this disc off the tee with great distance and control.

Great max distantance driver for beginners. I'm consistently throwing my Heat 50 feet further than anything else. I like it for forehand drives, but it can be easy to turn over with all of the torque, so you have to control it.

The heat is in contention for one of the greatest beginner drivers ever in my eyes. This is a disc that I have seen numerous beginner players pick up the heat after understanding how to play a little bit and just throwing it super well. The heat is very understable which is really good for new players that are still learning how to throw well and how to get a disc up to speed. For more advanced players the heat could be a great flip up to flat and maybe even flip up and turn over disc. You can throw big anyhyzers with a heat and know it will not fade out as well as put it down on a roller and watch it go for a long time. The heat is a must have for new players that want to start learning how to throw far correctly. Even people who can throw relatively far may find the heat something that can manipulate at will when needing to throw specific lines. It may not be the best beginner disc ever but this would be my first choice if I am giving a beginner a recomendation on what to throw. If you are a new player looking to get some extra distance over your putters and mid ranges pick yourself up a heat and you will not be disappointed by it. You will learn how to throw correctly and how to make the heat do whatever you want it to.

I love my heat for long backhand drives. I don't have the best arm speed, but I still don't think the Heat is as understable as the turn indicates. Other than that, the flight rating is fairly accurate. This disc has tons of glide and some fade at the end. It is my go-to for just about all of my backhands drives, because I can throw a hyzer flip and have it glide flat for a while. It feels great in the hand, and the Z plastic is very durable.

Great beginner disc. I found this disc out on the course while playing one day (no number or contact), and it quickly became one of my favorite discs in my bag. I used it for about a year and a half solid. This disc is easily controlled and easy to understand. Gets decent distance, and has a nice straight flight.

Now... this thing is FLIPPY. But if you learn to throw it, you can get the prettiest and longest turnovers with this disc, which has made it indespensable in my bag. For reference, I don't have crazy professional arm speed, but I have enough that I don't need discs this understable to get more distance (I throw my star destroyers around 360). But when I throw this thing on a good amount of hyzer RHBH, it flips up to flat, rides flat for about 100 feet, and turns and turns and turns. It is so glidey that it doen't turn and burn, and rather just floats in the air while continuting to push forward and right. Having that kind of shot has unlocked so many lines for me and I love this disc. (Mine is Z-line 175g)

I was given this disc by a friend. It was one of my first drivers and I will probably always bag it. I don't always see the -3 in its flight, but it has a very pronounced turn. It is one of my primary accuracy drivers and a wonderful roller. I'd advise you to give this disc a flick and watch it turn over then watch the fade take over and it glide right up to the target.

This is the best understable disc that I have yet found, hands down. Got one secondhand with the prototype AceRace stamp on it and it is a really solid option for medium speed, and controlled hyzerflips to turn over and carry on in late flight. When there is no room in the forrest to throw an big annie, this will carry you all the way... with a right flip of a hand you can quite easily learn.

Heat (Prototype) has great glide and really controllable turn. It doesnt fade though, which takes off some distance with some specific shots (hard to get the full flight in tight spots.) But my go to in many scenarious opposite to long overstable things to do in trouble and also of the tee for many precise shots to stay in the fairway and not to go for full distance (and potentially fading nowhere near left for righthanded backhand shots).. This thing can get you too far right but really takes a bad shot to not make it long and understable.

That being said: I usually never throw this forhand and agains any strong headwind. For tailwind, its totally another story. (add glide potentially incase of optimal wind and no Saint can fly further). Looking at the fligh pattern in Infitediscs i whould say I throw it quite differently: flipping it over and always carrying full to the right and no fade back to speak of.

By far my favorite disc to throw. Extremely easy to throw controllably and to get good distance with. I do think that the numbers are slightly misleading based on how mine have performed for me. I definitely think it's more stable than a -3/1. In comparison to my MVP wave (11/5/-2/2) the Heat has much less turn. I would probably adjust the turn and fade to -1.5/1.5. Released on a hyzer angle it will flip up, and depending how hard you throw it, either glide out until it fades, or turn a bit first. I can use this disc for everything from a 300-350' open hole to a 200' wooded hole. The one caveat I would say is it isn't the greatest in the wind. Overall fantastic disc that anyone can use and get distance.

Picked up one of these to replace my Roadrunner and I gotta say it does the job. I am a RHBH player and use this to emulate flicks or get some nice long rollers. I throw it out on a hyzer and it instantly flips up and then slowly fades to the right. Massive distance and easy to throw.

To me this is Discraft’s best understable driver by a long shot. Thrown flat, if you have a bigger arm, it’s going to turn and burn, but it has a lot of margin for error when thrown with hyzer thanks to its glide. This I a great disc to learn faster hyzer flips on and it’ll fly beautifully in a tail wind. With any considerable headwind, you’re better off with a more stable fairway driver, but the heat has a beautiful flight for open field fairway shots and is way more accurate than I was expecting given how long it wants to stay in the air. Great disc.

    Love the Heat!

The Heat is very comparable to a Sidewinder.  For me, the Heat tends to turn and rise, where my Sidewinder throws wanted to lose height while turning--sometimes ending in an unintentional roller.

I use a well-loved Elite Z for hyzer flips, hyzer flip to turnover, big sky anhyzers, and rollers.  Other plastics are fine also, but of the ones I've held, Z seems to be the flattest, which I prefer.  I do carry an Elite X which has a massive dome, but much more turn and glide.  It makes big distance easy from a standstill or awkward footing.  I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

This was the first driver that I could throw well. Doesn't need a ton of power or speed to fly straight. Very controllable. Great beginner driver. Once I started throwing harder and getting better, I threw it way too hard and it turned over and went about 300' into the thick, northeast forest. It was a very sad day. I highly recommend this disc. If you think distance driver rims are too wide, this disc has a smaller, more comfortable one. Easy thrower.

    Understable for experienced players.

Straight flyer for newer players beginning to find their form.

As an intermediate player I love this disc for hyzerflip-to-turnover shots and rollers.  When thrown with the right amount of power on a hyzer, this disc will flip up and ride right (RHBH) for a long ways.  My purple Z Heat has a nice dome to it and the result is tons of glide and easy distance.  I had to work with it a bit and figure out the flight and how much power to put on it, but now that I am figuring it out the Heat has become a lot of fun to throw.  I'd say the flight path displayed here on Infinite is pretty accurate, but I think it flies a tick faster than a 9 speed.  I am learning a roller with this disc, a work in progress for sure, but when I am able to lay it down on the right angle the disc rolls well.

Maybe you are looking for something that you can get a little more turn & distance out of?  I'd give this a try.  Would also recommend this disc to anyone looking for a driver they can finesse in the woods for straight/turnover lines.. the glide will get you to where you need to be with less power.  Fun, fun disc to throw.

The Discraft Heat is a great disc if you don't have a big arm, but you are looking for a little bit of extra distance. This is a very understable disc, but not uncontrollable. Right out of the box, this disc was great for flip up shots that needed to hit smaller gaps. This was a disc that also really helped when it came to laying down some nice rollers. My favorite shot with this disc though, is a big anhyzer. When I would hit the line it would just turnover and glide for days. This is a really nice disc if you are in the understable fairway market.

    I like. 5 STARS.

This disc flies where I throw it. It's about as controllable as it gets for me. From low to high power, this is straight, flip straight, flip turn. Good roller, too. Must use hyzer if I throw for max D. Not much fade. I use it as I  used my JLS. This does it with less side to side movement.

It's taking the place of my  mids in a lot of cases. I can power down and get a similar line. Very versatile disc.  I have one Z and one D for flippin. The Z is a stable disc that can take more ump before flipping over. the D turns over quite easily.

Picked this up on a whim, and came to really enjoy it. I like a disc with a bit of flip, especially for the speed I can throw at. This disc gives me some flip and lots of glide, letting me cover some of the furthest distances when I throw, next to thew new Surge SS. I'm a big fan and stoked to have this in my pack. I'd recommend it for anyone whose starting to turnover some of the flipper midrange discs too much, this one will be the next logical progression.

I got this disc in a mystery box, and didn't gravitate to it at first. But after forcing myself to bag it a few times I really learned to love it. It's fippy, fairly fast, and has really good glide. It's REALLY similar to a Sidewinder, but I personally prefer the feel of the Heat in my hand. It's a bit more domey, but it really melds well with the rim size and creates a nice overall feel for the disc. Also it doesn't seem to "flip out" like the Sidewinder can. The Heat seems to have a wider safe zone.

I tend to use this for longer turn shots, and if I release on a slight anhyzer it turns, holds the angle, and glides for days. It's the first disc that makes it a hard decision to throw vs a RHFH.

    Easy Distance

If you've ever thrown a roadrunner and liked it, this disc has a similar feel and a similar flight, but with more glide.

It doesn't take too much power to send the disc a long ways, but surprisingly isn't terribly flippy. It's not overly fast, but just floats out there.

This disc was awesome for my disc golf development. To start even without much power I could throw this disc straight and far, and as I developed I learned to use it with hyzer and the first driver I could use for turnovers.

Also makes a good roller due to the uniformity of the top and bottom of the rim.

I normally throw Innova discs but i happened to pick up a slightly used heat in elite z plastic. The plastic is similar to Innova's champion plastic but with a slightly different feel. The lip is not very wide which took some getting used to for me.

It took a few throws to get used to the flight pattern on this disc but once I got it down i realized it's pretty similar to the Innova beast. Both are understable discs so i throw them on a hyzer line and watch them flatten out traveling on a nice S-line.

The more I threw the heat the more i preferred it over the beast. I found it more consistent. the slower speed on the heat was noticeable but it seemed to have better glide then the beast. I've noticed on windy days it can be challenging to get the disc to fly the way you want it.

I wasn't a fan of the heat at first but it's consistency on clear days had me reaching for it often.

    Part 2.

The original heat I have is now the flippest thing I have ever thrown. I dont throw it on windy days but on tight wooded shots with a bend to the right it has saved my butt more then once. I can throw it on a hyzer line and it will still turn over and finish right with a nice glide. This has really come in handy since I don't have a reliable forehand.

I picked up two new heats since my last review and they are no where near as understable as my beat in one. I like that though because i dont have to power down when i throw them and i can get a nice reliable S line out to 320 consistently. Wind is still an issue though which is why I switch between throwing my heat and a Star TL depending on the conditions. I now bag 3 heats and love them for the wooded courses i play on.

My guess is that if you're reading the review on the Heat, it's because you're kind of new but sage enough to do some research to find "that disc" that will elevate your game. You might have learned that the heavy max speed driver you bought with your first disc was almost useless despite seeing the huge speed and glide numbers, so you read up a little and built your game and arm speed until you felt pretty good about your midranges. Now you want to move up to a driver but you want a medium speed driver because you still can't chuck that max weight/speed that sits on your desk like an oversized paperweight. You heard great things about the valkyrie and the diamond, and they are both excellent discs. I personally like the heat better. Here is why:

You know how you sometimes stumble upon a magical disc that just leaves your hand perfectly each and every time from its maiden voyage til forever? Yeah, me neither. But only the mako3 has ever given me this kind of consistent result. I bought the mako3 to go dead nuts straight and that's what it does. I got this as an ace race disc and fell in love with it which is why I have more copies in elite-Z with the nifty dragon on it. I was that guy I described in the first paragraph. I found lots of success with both the valkyrie and the diamond. The heat falls in between with the best of both worlds for me. The diamond is an awesome disc but it's only made in very light weights. The glide is incredible, but being as understable as it is and so light, I kind of lost use for it and gave it away. The valkyrie is like a ninja star with a flat profile and sharp rim; it's faster and stronger arms can fling it farrrrrr but the glide is reduced compared to the diamond. The heat can take the stronger arm that favors the valkyrie, but is very forgiving to the weaker arm suited to the diamond. The glide is huge on this disc and the flight is predictable. With a tailwind, weaker arms are going to find ridiculously long drives that they can feel good about. Like I said, I love the valkyrie and diamond, but this one is my favorite beginning driver. It's no longer my primary distance driver for max distance, but if I were to play a round with just three discs, this would definitely be in the bag.

The HEAT is very comfortable, easy to throw,  and has lots of glide!

This is a good disc for those without a lot of arm speed.  It pretty much flies as adverstied except I found it to be more like a fairway driver speed.  My biggest complaint is the plastic, I am yet to find any Discraft plastic that I like the feel of.  So if you newish and want Discraft this is a must get, but otherwise I would look at other companies with similar discs (i.e. Seer, Hatchet, Leopard3)

Good first distance driver, somewhat understable but not so flippy that you have to have perfect form to make it work.

Really nice for sweeping hyzerflips and getting around trees and things.

I love the rim feel, it feels really small and easy to grip, the only problem is the giant dome many of these have. Without that I would rate it a bit higher.

It probably helps it glide more, but makes the otherwise easy grip a little uncomforatable.

I don't really use this type of disc, but if I did I would consider the Heat.

    Understable Glidey Goodness

The Heat is one of those weird discs where it's a little too understable for experienced players and a little too fast for newer players. But discers with lower power and have control will LOVE the Heat. I'm not a big fan of using drivers for the Discraft Ace Race, but the Heat is by far the best of the drivers they have used for that event thus far.

For me, I had to add hyzer no matter how hard I was throwing the heat, but found it very easy to manipulate. The Heat is a very workable disc without being too sensitive to nose angles and whatnot. I do think it may be a little more understable than advertised, but it does have a decent finish that will leave you not too far off to the right of your throw (assuming RHBH)

Very good control driver. I like this for tight fairways and can get a 250+ straight drive off of it consistently.

It has a nice soft fade, and will hold a good hyzer line.

I have a couple of these in Z plastic from the Ace Race a few years ago. After the tournament I put them away because I wasn't using fairway drivers at all, but recently I pulled them out for use on turnover shots. I'm still tuning in with them but I think they work fairly well in that role.

If I use a flat release with 80 power it will cruise with an anyhyzer flight out to around 300-350. Using an anhyzer release it will take a sharper line and hit the ground on an angle.

Feels pretty comfortable in the hand. Honestly everything about this disc screams "normal" to me, hard to dislike but nothing particularly special about it. I don't throw anhyzer backhands much but it's works well for that shot, or for beginner distance. I could see other discs performing even better though.

Alright, listen up fellow lefties! This is a disc that will fill the swooping anhyzer role in your bag.

There are plenty of situations on the course where the basket is located in a place that the natural right handed fade is catered to. If you are left handed, you know that if you don't have a flick, you can easily lose a stroke to your right handed friends here. Enter the Heat.

This disc has become my go to disc for those left side dogleg holes that have been troublesome in the past. Throw this thing out to the right side with anhyzer and this thing swoops in a nice semi circle and attacks the left side and holds all the way to the hole. It's a thing of beauty to see the Heat just bank left and hold until it hits and skips to where those hyzering righties land.

If you need a gradual left side turn, this disc can do that too, with a gentle fade back.

Haven't really been impressed with the hyzerflip distance on the Heat, but it's not a trick I require the Heat to perform for me.

My brother in law is a new player with a noodlea arm and I gave him a Heat, and it's his go to disc. It's an easy disc for a brand new player to get workable distance with.

It's a nice disc to open up the opposite side of the fairway, especially for us lefties!

I was looking for a longer fairway driver, something that would behave at less that full power. I really like the xpress and this feels like its older harsher brother. I'm an ultimate player first, and a disc golfer second. I tend to put a littlle hyzer onto most of my throws which makes throwing overstable drivers more of a mental game rather than a physical game. This disc allows me to just relax and feel natural with the disc. I generally hyzer flip it going either direction and watch it ride the rope that I put it on, and and at the end watch it fade out. It is easy to flip it over if given a flat release and power or wind. I really look forward to trying this disc in the Big Z plastic, and feel like it might replace the xpress in the bag if the fade lessens as it gets broken in.

I got two of this at the Ace Race and have yet to figure them out. One will have major turn and little fade, then the next throw will give me a huge s-curve. Unfortunately, the second disc has that same kind of inconsistencies. With other discs, I figure out how they work and use them accordingly. With these, they act different on any given throw, so they have not found a spot in my bag yet. I'm hoping more field work will fix this, but honestly I could see them sitting in the stack of extras for awhile too. I know for sure they won't be knocking my Rivers out of the US Fairway slot any time soon.

I think this disc does exactly what it's advertised to do.  For a more advanced thorwer this disc will hold a steady anhyzer or be a roller.  It has great glide so you can hyzer flip it and it will go far.  For a beginner it would be a good starting driver.  It flies similar to an Innova Mamba with more glide.

This disc is a good straight to understable driver.  It flies for me very similar to my avenger SS, but I throw it a little harder.  I am carrying my avenger SS right now, but I could see my heat replacing it soon.

I saw a lot of newer players and slower arms really digging this disc at the Ace Race, however I just had a hard time getting it to work for me without really changing my throw. As you would imagine this ultra understable disc was horrible in head winds. And with the wind it just wasn't anything I'd have a use for in my bag.

This would be a great disc for someone new to the game or with little pop in their throw.

Ace Race discs are usually beginner friendly, just as an aside. The heat is an understable disc that is great for beginner and intermediate players needing a driver to just go straight. Big arms will turn it over with ease, and it makes for a good controllable driver. For me, it just feels good in my hands. Soft edges and just enough rim to really get into it. For me, throwing a Katana is much harder because I dont have the arm speed. I can get the heat to fly about 320' at this point. I would think you could hyzer flip this disc well, although outside my skill level.

I have 4 of these from the Ace race and it is definitely staying in my bag.  This Disc will hold any line you put it on.  I prefer to use this for technical shots. Plastic is excellent, Disc feels awesome in hand, and is excellent in wind.
