Summary: A great learning disc that I'd recommend to keep in the bag for years.

Feel: The Heat that I got was lighterweight, 167-169, which I believe made it shirnk when cooling to make it incredibly flat. I've seen many Heats from others that are very domey, flat on the wing, but domey in the center. The Big Z plastic is crazy durable with pretty good grip but maybe just a tad slick if you have drier hands. The rim isn't wider than other 9 speeds that I've flet, but this disc just seems to come out fast.

Flight: Like I said, I believe there was something special about my Heat. Being as flat as it was, I believe it made it more overstable. I've been unable to flip it up while being able to flip up more stable discs.

The Heat has a ton of glide and a substantial amount of turn (-3), which makes it a reasonably good option for newer players throwing slower-speed discs at least 275 feet. I had a few good years where the Z-line Heat and Avenger SS played significant roles in my bag, but both discs are too understable for me now.  When I need a long anhyzer throw, I prefer to use a Latitude 64 Saint or a well-worn MVP Wave.

I love my heat. This was my first ever disc golf disc ever and I can make this disc do whatever I want it to do. From forehand to backhand it glides great. This disc hyzer flips really well and I can touch it to 400ft consistently. If you are looking for a far flying disc that isn't a distance driver, then this is for you. Even with a disc speed of 9, slower arm speeds can throw it really well. I have bought 3 more heats since and is a definite bag. I have tried all the Blends and I would say Big Z is more flippy and fits the numbers of the disc. But the crystal blend I would say has a turn of -1/-2. Definitely recommend to all player levels.

Great disc for wide open holes and uphill shots. Perfect bomber disc for people who don't have the armspeed to throw distance drivers

The disc I really figured out how to hyzer flip with consistently. Super useful for players with higher arm speed for shaping shots, the low speed makes it easy to turn over without losing accuracy from trying to over throw the disc. Beginner friendly, should be used as the first driver in a new players bag, very forgiving and gets a good amount of distance without needing a ton of power.

I LOVE my heat! One of my favorite discs to use off the tee especially if im looking to finish on the right side of the fairway. This disc has a -3 Turn rating but the turn honestly when thrown with enough power feels more like a -4 to me. I have yet to throw it forehand but throwing RHBH it feels great, flies great, and I'd recommend it for anyone's bag at any skill level.

    Disc - 173-174 Discraft Big Z Heat

Feel - The heat feels very nice in the hand. The rim is a bit convex and not very wide nor deep. This disc feels good for both backhand and forehand shots. I'm not a huge fan of the feel of a big Z plastic because it's neither insanely durable or very grippy but it the flight of discs in big z is very nice and looks good as well.

Flight - The heat is definitely an understable control/fairway driver. It is nice for hyzer flip to turn shots because it never seems to want to flip over and burn out it just holds a nice turn angle. When thrown with a lot of power and a lot of hyzer this disc has insane glide and definitely has the potential to go almost as far as some of my distance drivers.

Overall - The heat is definitely a disc that can fit into many players bags. I think that it works well for beginners or players with slower arm speeds to become their farthest flying disc and for more advanced players it can be used for big turnovers and even some rollers. Definitely a disc I would recommend to many players.

I've been playing for about a year and throw 300 feet pretty casually. I've owned two Heats, one in fly dye Z, and another in Big Z, but have had roughly the same experience with both.

The Heat's very pronounced dome is uncomfortable for my grip, and I find myself having all sorts of issues with release.

The turn is pretty intense with this disc, and I sometimes flip it completely in a tailwind, getting a sad little cut roller at 200ft. Playing with the hyzer just felt too finicky to keep this disc in my bag, especially when the grip and release just feel "off" compared to just about any other disc.

This is my go to driver. My 171 gram Big Z Heat is consistently the furthest disc in my bag. I can get it out between 325-350 with not much effort and have touched 400 with the right wind. Beautiful S lines. Even when I have a bad release and turn the disc over more than I wanted to it always fights back with decent fade. I’ve tried this disc in big z, titanium and esp. The esp is a lot more understable for me and is much less forgiving if you don’t release on the proper angle. Very easy to turn over. I haven’t thrown the titanium enough yet to give my thoughts on it. Now that the big z has gotten worked in more I need to add a little more hyzer. When I throw a hyzerflip it pops up to flat and turns beautifully before fighting back with a solid fade. This is a great disc for beginners and more advanced players. If your power keeps you under 400 feet I’d say this is a good disc to use. If your regularly over 400 feet you may need something a touch more stable.

One of my very first discs. This disc is awesome for shot shaping. Don't bag this disc anymore but definitely should be one of the first discs a beginner should use.

Very fun and easy disc to throw. I use this disc for hyzer flips and anhyzer shots. I would recommend this disc as a first driver for a beginner.

Great understable driver with tons of glide. Understable enough for a great roller disc, but still stable enough to bomb out a 450' drive. Just recently started bagging these again and they've quickly become a go to for anything over 350' for me.

I have the Big Z version. It is a great driver that you want to go straight. The one I got has almost no turn. Whatever line you put it on, it stays on it and slightly fades at the end. As a FH player, I can give it some anhyzer and it never comes back. It is my go to for backhand dominate holes. It doesn't hold up to a lot of power, but that could be technique. I find the less I give it, the better it flies

First of all, the Big Z Heat has one of the top 5 coolest stock stamps in all of disc golf. To me, this type of disc is a necessity for any bag. It has enough speed to get those late turns when you need them and yet is understable enough to power down well for touchy shots. From a standstill, when you need to be accurate, the Heat makes it easy. This is the disc that will teach you all the various forms of hyzerflip and spin its way into your heart. I recommend it in a durable plastic.

Understable fairway drivers, the disc you always want in your bag but don't want to show your big arm buddies you have. You wipe the stamp and lie saying its something different but everyone knows you can't flip the mold you said it was to flat. The Heat is a very, very comfortable disc. The rim size is perfect and just the right depth and is feels great t in the hand both forehand and back hand. The Heat's profile is generally quite domey with a very smooth transitioning rim making this disc glide endlessly. My test subjects are a 175g Elite Z and a 172g Big Z although I can tell you the plastic type made 0 difference in this case, possibly the D and X line will fly different since the stabilities of those plastics tend to be a little bit lower.

The Heat's hallmark is in it's very understable nature. Newer players will be able to get this disc to fly very straight and probably even get a nice S flight on a flat release. More advanced players will be able to start this disc on a knife angle hyzer and have it pop up to flat and start turning over or throw it flat and hard and have it flip over to a max distance roller. When thrown harder and on a big sky Anhyzer this disc will fly insanely far and it will hold its Anhyzer line the entire flight and can produce some very interesting results. The Heat is also surprisingly good forehand, it requires almost no effort to get this disc to flip up and is a great learning tool because of it. What all of this culminates into is a remarkable amount of utility: because this disc is so easy to throw you can easily toss it into a less than ideal circumstance come up with absolutely crazy shots.

The Heat is very understable... so keep it away from a head wind or cross winds but I can say over the year or so I have owned it that it is by and large the best tailwind driver in my bag easily staying under control in a 15mph+ downhill tailwind shot.

The Heat is pretty beginner friendly driver assuming they've worked up to the point where they can throw fast fairway drivers, It makes a great first go to distance driver when complemented with a disc slightly more stable.

The Heat is something more players should really be bagging for their scramble and woods game as it does what it advertises quite admirably and this disc really goes a long ways assuming you keep it under control. As far as learning tools go the Heat transitions from most peoples go to drivers to a utility disc and while it is an incredibly powerful tool its use becomes limited as time goes on. So a 3/5 stars is pretty accurate this is a good disc, you may not always need a Heat in your bag... but you will be extremely happy you have it when find yourself in a tough spot.

My wife used this disc and got some great distance her first few times out. I find it to be quite understable, and use it mostly as a backhand roller. Good feel in the hand and great for hyzer-flips.

The Heat is pretty understable for me.  I have to throw it on a hyzer flip or else It will turn over and roll on me.  If slow my arm way down I can throw it flat. I don't throw the Heat to much.  Most shots I use it for is on tight hallway fairways in the woods on a hyzer flip.

I think the Heat would be ok for the newer player as a driver.  For the more advanced player the Heat is still an ok disc but I think most players will find it to understable and they will over power it and turn an burn into the ground.

This disc is great. Granted I have only tried throwing about 5 other drivers, but  I started on my heat, and I think it's the best disc to learn to drive with. I use it for forehand, back hand, hyzers... It's a great disc and I always have a good time throwing it.

This adage sums up this disc well: Smooth is far. It reminds me of a longer Glide, a disc I also really like. I have not thrown a disc farther with less effort. I rate it in the speed 8 class because of this quality. For context, I'm in my mid-forties and am just in average physical condtion. I like to play multiple rounds a day, so the easy going nature of this disc is much appreciated by the old arm.
