The Discmania line-up gets a much-anticipated addition in the form of a beefy fairway driver. The newcomer is called the FD3 and it is targeted to everyone who can appreciate an overstable driver that's trustworthy in all conditions. The FD3 features a flat profile and a very comfortable rim.

Despite being very close to the Power Driver (PD) in terms of flight ratings, the FD3 offers a noticeably more overstable flight pattern. This disc can be used for everything from touch sidearms that get you out of trouble to full power drives off the tee. You can rely on the FD3's long but powerful and forward-penetrating fade.

I want to start by saying how much I love the Firebird, which is pretty similar in flight ratings. I also want to say I love Discmania, which produces a version of the Firebird with a bit more glide and a bit less fade. With all that being said, the FD3 is a great disc to utilize in your bag. It really is a utility disc that can be used in any weather or wind and can still perform very well. The backhands are nice when thrown on anhyzer, but they fight to fade very quickly with any backhand shot, so I really only throw this on a backhand hyzer when backhanding it at all. The flick is where this disc shines for me and for a lot of players that use this disc. It is such a good flick disc. I love to put this on a flex line and watching it wind through trees. I throw a c-line fd3 at 175 grams and I really do enjoy this. I still prefer the Firebird for thumber and tomahawk shots, but the fd3 gives the Firebird a run for its money on other type of shots.

This was the first disc I learned how to throw. After time as it got beat in, it flew even straighter than it was. I love throwing this disc forehand, and feel like it will go straight for a really long time before fading out slightly. I would recommend using this disc when first throwing with forehand since it seems to be throw straighter than the flight numbers. I carry 2 FD3's in my bag one that is a little bit newer than the other.

I just got one of the Eagle editions out of the Discmania mystery box.  This disc is more overstable than I would like as it flies straight for 200 feet and then hooks hard left, but it is an awesome disc in the wind.  I have one in 175g and you can throw it into a headwind and it will fight through the whole way.  It has some significant glide and will give you a big skip if it lands flat.  You can spike hyzer this bad boy all day and forehands will work too.  Intermediate and advanced players will utilize this disc more.

    Disc - 175 Discmania C-Line FD3

Feel - The FD3 is very comfortable in the hand in my opinion. It fits well for both forehand and backhand shots. Most FD3s are flat topped so if you enjoy the feel of flat top firebirds I would recommend this disc.

Flight - The FD3 has a very similar flight to a firebird but maybe with a touch more distance. It flies nice and straight for a good ways and then dumps hard out of the sky. It is usually good for a hard skip depending on the ground. I enjoy the FD3 for teeshotd both forehand and backhand that I need to go straight and then finish hard.

Overall - The FD3 is another one of the overstable fairway drivers on the market and I think it is best to find one that fits you best and stick with that because they all do generally the same thing. I would not recommend this disc to beginners as it will destroy their form due to its massive overstability.

    175g C-Line FD3

(RHFH) This disc is my primary forehand fairway driver. Thrown flat with a hard snap, this disc is going dead straight for 275-325 ft. before curling off to the right. It doesn't dump aggressively, so you can control how far it will fade by how close you throw it to the ground. Thrown low, this disc will skip within 10-20ft. to the right of where it lands, 10ft. off the ground it will drift 20-30ft., and if you throw the disc high, it will stall out when it loses energy then hook hard 30-40ft. Fantastic for standstill upshots 200-250+ out that require RHFH.

(RHBH) I don't throw the FD3 RHBH as much as I should. Usually the only time I pull this disc out for RHBH is for low ceiling left dog-leg holes, trying to take the skip shot. On the rare occasion, I'll use this disc to force a flex line knowing that I need it to finish left. With that said, it's a great disc for both of those shots.

Summary: The FD3 is a confidence inspiring disc with the consistency to back it up. The closest thing to an "EASY" button that I've found in disc golf.

(Edit) Just got my first ace with this disc. Love it!

Flat top. Overstable. Low glide. What's not to love? It's a great utility disc for back hand or forehand shots where space is limited or tight lines are needed. Fights winds great, as well.

I like this disc but I think the speed is a lil higher than the numbers because I have to put alot behind it to get it to go down the fairway if not it will just die hard left like a overstable speed 12 but if you can dial the speed in its a great fairway driver

I have played around with this disc for about 2 months and I have yet to pin point exactly the type of shot I want to use it for. It tends to fly really stable for about 150 feet and then spike hizzer about 20 feet to the left.

I recommend this disc to a player who knows what they are doing and has played for maybe 6-7 months. It feels good in the hand and it a pretty disc but I have still yet to find a comfortable spot for it in my bag.

So if you are new to disc golf I do not recommend this disc to start off with. If you don't have the power to throw this disc it will not preform the way you would expect it to.

So this is a unique disc for me. While there are many like it (fireball,firebird,felon,etc...) I feel this mold has the best glide of the lot. I trust this disc out over water on big hyzer lines because i know it'll juts glide its way back to shore with ease. Sometimes other discs go a little too flat where the FD3 will pick up and sail. Now in a lot of other circumstances that's certainly not a good thing, which is why I trade out this disc and others depending on conditions. But I trust this disc tremendously and you should too.

Not as overstable as a firebird, but has more glide than a firebird. You definitely have to have the arm in order to throw one of these. Very comfortable for both backhand and forehand with a slight dome not much and a lot of sweet stamps. Holds in a headwind pretty decent. Overall great disc!

Such a good disc. I've been known to call it the best disc ever made. If you've got a big power forehand, you need this disc. It has the overstability of a firebird with a bit more glide. The mold feels great in the hand and instills confidence in every shot. For backhands the FD3 is a trusty, overstable hyzer disc. Over time it will beat in beautifully and cover a wide range of shots. I bag 3 FD3s covering the meathook overstable shots needed all the way to long, stable, controlled driver shots that you'd expect to throw a Teebird or something similar for. The FD3 is a great disc to cover all kinds of stable shots if you're looking to slim your fairway driver lineup down to 2 or 3 molds.

This is a staple in my bag for my OS fairway driver.  It is not incredibly beefy but at the same time will not even think about turning in a headwind.  If the Thunderbird had an OS cousin, that is this disc.  It is extremely throwable.  I've lost a few of the C-Lines over the years and had to replace them and each disc flies the exact same.  I also bag a Glow C-line as it is much more OS and actually is somewhat beefy.  Both discs feel great in the hand and compliment each other well.  If you're ready to grab an OS fairway, go ahead and get a C-Line FD3!

Everything I was looking for, this disc has the overstability of a firebird but with a touch less fade and a little more glide. I am able to throw this disc farther than my firebird and still get that reliable fade. Great overstable fairway..

Discmania has done a great job with another fairway, control driver. The FD3 will serve as a great compliment to the less stable FD. This disc will handle headwinds great, and will serve as your overstable utility disc. Its not an unworkable overstable like some discs with similar numbers, but it has some beef. The C-line plastic feels great and is super durable. It will take some time to beat this plastic in. Overall, this is a great disc filling a much needed spot in the Discmania lineup.

The FD3 has become a mainstay in my bag. It is reliably overstable no matter how hard you throw it. I primarily throw rhbh with it, but when I throw a sidearm with it it likes to stay pretty straight and then dumps. I do prefer a Star Firebird for overstable sidearms.

Faster out of my hand than a Firebird.

Deeper and wider rim than firebird allowing me to get more rip on a hyzer line.

Handles the wind better than a PD

    More glide than a Firebird

Some runs are flat while others have dome.

Good for both backhand and forehand throws.

Good for flex shots and provides good skips.

I carry both a Firebird and an FD3 because for me they provide enough of a different flight and feel.

The FD3 is a go to fairway driver for me. It's super reliable. No matter how hard I throw it, it will hold its line and finish left. Rarely does this disc ever flip over on me. It's my firebird.

Sweet Disc! Really loving this disc!  One thing i will say is i don't get the firebird comparison.  The FD3 Glides much farther than a firebird and the firebird also fades harder.  Those details are why i love this disc! When you really need a disc you can trust but still need the extra distance, the FD3 fits the build or mold i guess.  They need to come out with Swirly S line of these if they don't have them.  I haven't seen.

The controlled forehand shot with a really overstable fairway drive is a big part of my disc golf game. My two normal trusty discs for these type shots are the MVP Resistor and the Discraft Flick. The reality though is that I don't have very good form, and the FD3 just isn't consistent enough for me. I think my big flaw with this disc is that it doesn't have a flat top. It's not ultra domey, but if I have even a slight dome, I tend to release my forehand throws at an anhyzer angle, and when done with the FD, this disc just isn't overstable enough to overcome my sloppyness. This disc just flies too far for off to the left on my accidental anhyzer releases. If there was a FD3 with a perfectly flat top, then this disc would probably be sufficient for my overstable control needs, but the reality is that the one I have has a dome and so just doesn't cut it for me.

The Discmania FD3 is a staple in my bag, and has shaved multiple strokes off my score over the past year. I will say, this disc is not beginner friendly, at all. For someone who finds the Firebird too overstable for many forehand and backhand shots, this mold is PERFECT.

I use this disc for straight shots that need a healthy fade/skip at the end or hyzer shots in the 275-325' range. This is my go-to forehand disc in the woods. For an overstable driver, it has a decent amount of glide. I would compared this to a Sexton Firebird, and once they beat in very close to an Innova Thunderbird out of the box.

With the Discmania FD3, the amount of overstability very much depends on the plastic. I have a Lizotte Swirly S, Regular S, and C Line in the bag. My order of stability throughout the runs/plastic from most to least stable is below. All runs are overstable, but there are some differences. I highly recommend the Discmania FD3 to every Intermediate to Pro level player!

Metal Flake C Line, Swirly S Line, Regular S Line, Regular C Line, and finally the European Open C Line

If you're looking for Discmania's version of a Firebird, you've found it. This thing is super overstable and it is wonderful. Amazing in the wind and suited for big skip shots when thrown low and flat, the FD3 is a great utility disc and something you can really lean on.

A Banshee By Any Other Name Throws Just As Sweet

The FD3 is Discmania's Banshee. The end.

Just kidding. But the FD3 is a fair imitator of that classic Innova mold. I would say the FD3 has a slightly higher glide, and a slightly less harsh fade, than a Banshee, which, in turn, gives it better distance potential. The rim of the FD3 feels quite a bit more comfortable than the newer Banshee rims.

All in all, the FD3 is a great overstable fairway driver that fills a big gap in the Discmania lineup. Sure to be a popular disc for big arm pros like Eagle MacMahon and Simon Lizotte!

My absolute favorite disc that can be thrown in any which way I choose. Before I was flicking firebirds that would tank with no glide far to early, but now the FD3 has extended both my distance and control greatly. Great overstable fairway that hold flat for a very long time considering it's overstability. Also fantastic for forehand rollers and overhand shots. It's the only utility disc that also has glide and distance.

The C-Line FD3 is a really dependable disc. It flies almost exactly like a Firebird, with almost no turn out of the hand and a dependably hard fade. This disc is awesome in a headwind.

When the FD3 came out, I was hoping for something to rival the flat versions of Firebird, offering an incredibly overstable utility flight. While the FD3 doesn't quite offer that flight characteristic, it has been getting the job done for Discmania throwers around the world.

If the Firebird just isn't doing it for you, consider trying the FD3. It is dependable, overstable, and gets the job done for it's intended purpose.
