The plastic offers a unique metallic shine that not only looks good, but it is also incredibly grippy and flexible (you can literally fold a GStar disc). I've been playing for 20 years and for some reason I never came across the Tern until now. The flight numbers looked good to me so I thought I'd give one a try. On my first few throws it out-distanced my top drivers by about 30 feet. I'm 65 years old and the Tern has made my max distance around 300 feet. The Gstar plastic is nice and grippy and for some reason the Tern has a nice glossy smooth upper edge, where as most other Gstar discs have that strange rough bubbly texture. I measured the rim at 22mm, which is perfect for me for a high speed driver. Note that Innova rates the Gstar version with a -3 turn value. I get only a bit of turn and a dependable fade when thrown flat, even though it's only a 156g disc in Gstar plastic. I would say it has a -2 turn for me but that may change as it gets broken in. If you've been wanting to throw the Emperor or Grace but don't have enough power, the Tern should give you similar flights with less effort. I would say the Tern is a slightly faster Mystere, which is also an excellent disc. I believe Julianna Corver, Lisa Fajkus and Kat Mertsch throw the Tern.

I''ll start with the bottom line. This. Disc. Bombs. And I don't just mean for arms like Simon and Eagle. This disc opens doors to distance that intermediate players have in the past only dreamed of.

Don't let the high speed number for you. Anyone who can throw 300 feet can definitely throw this disc on the intended flight path. While not a headwind driver, in calm conditions, or, even better, in a tailwind, a hyzer flip will take it far past your prior records.

I have the Tern in Star, Champion, and G Star plastic and they all fly very differently. The Champion plastic is a completely different disc. It is very, very over stable. I recommend throwing it flat and, to be honest, it could probably even handle a slight headwind. I would not recommend Champion for beginners. The Star plastic is a good all-around versatile thrower. Especially when broken in, this one can be released on a slight hyzer, and go far. Again, though, probably not for beginners. The real gem, in my opinion, is the gstar plastic Tern. It is a hyzer flip machine. Unsuitable for any headwind,  the gstar plastic Tern thrown on big hyzer seems to just go forever. I'd say it requires about an 8-speed arm speed and I would recommend that any advanced-beginner bag one.

I would add, though, that you need a wide open space to throw the Tern. This understable disc doesn't fly like a fairway driver. You are going to see major action to the right -- long action – before a hard fade at the end. This makes the disc very suitable for field shots, but not appropriate for long tunnel shots. If you need decent distance but in a straight line, I'd stick with a Teebird (IMO the best disc ever made).

This is a disc that was recommended to me when i started playing and has not left my bag since i got it. The glide this disc has is amazing and it is easy to throw despite being a high speed driver. I recommend this disc to anyone looking for a good hyzer to flat disc to get some great "tern" out of. I highly recommend getting this disc in any plastic they all fly amazing.

The gstar plastic is perfect for this disc, especially for flippy distance for a noodle arm. In G star it flips up perfect and still will be reliable enough for a fade finish. I'd compare this to a Discraft Hades.

I have been playing disc golf for a few months now and this disc, when the wind isn't out in full force, is my favorite distance driver to sling. The Tern I bag is 174g in Gstar plastic. It glides forever even with slower arm speeds and is often my longest drive when just practicing and when on the course. I love putting it on a slight hyzer angle and watching it flip up, turn for a bit and then finish left giving that nice S curve. The disc width and rim fits really nice in my smaller hands as well. I wouldn't hesitate giving this to someone new to the sport to try to get some good distance right out fo the gate.

Disc: 171g GStar Tern 172g Champion Tern

Feel in Hand: The Tern is A LOT more comfortable than other 12-speed drivers and I like to say, the Tern is to the Shryke as the Wraith is to the Destroyer. Similar characteristics, but a lot more of an accessible rim. I personally do not care for GStar it is way to pliable for my taste.

Flight: The GStar Tern that I have I scribbled on it, "#getflippy" the Tern has a ton of "TURN" this is not a disc for a headwind. I would use this when I needed to get right (RHBH) and I didn't have a forehand at the time. The champion Tern definitely was a lot more stable to where it didn't make sense for me to throw it as other discs would have similar flights. I would throw this GStar to essentially "super" hyzer-flip and it was "almost" an ace disc. 300+ft, down and to the right. I released flat, it flew right immediately and had a mellow fade back crashing hard into the top rim. Parked, but bummed.

Conclusion/Similarities: I would say the most similar disc to this would be a Valkyrie for big boy/girl arms. Of all the "flippy drivers" this is the one I would recommend. I would be interested to try this in Star plastic, but now that many of my stable drivers are starting to get beat in I tend to reach for them before the Tern. Great disc to start airing out some serious distance. (3/4)

I got this in halo star from infinite discs. I'm starting to like it for what it is - a straight flight with a good fade at the end. I might need to get a different plastic to see what everyone else is talking about. I would love some TERN! I throw almost exclusively RHFH for what it's worth.

I was never a big fan of the G-star Tern until this past winter where it was one of main drivers I used on account of the fact that I wouldn't be too sore if I lost it. However, I ended up learning to appreciate the disc and have yet to take it out of my bag. My hands are smaller, so wide-rimmed discs don't always work out for me, but for whatever reason the Tern feels great in my grip for both BH and FH. I mostly threw OS discs for FH shots, but I used the Tern to work on FH hyzer angles and it can really bomb. I typically don't like G-star during spring/summer months, but it's some of the best plastic to throw in cold weather IMO.

This is my #2 understable distance driver in my bag. My go to is a Daedalus for max distance and I find the GStar Tern flies very similar with a little less speed. So when I want a similar flight path but want to take just a touch off, I go to my Tern. It obviously gets a great turn when you get it up to speed and strong fade makes for some great shot shapes. Also, I have pretty large hands so the wide rim fits great in my hands.

threw a GStar Tern for a long time while building backhand arm speed and learning how to properly backhand drive. Terns are awesome learner discs because they’re understable enough to be forgiving to slower arms. With more experience, players can bomb Terns on hyzerflips or shape long distance throws through tight windows. Mine eventually got too beat in and became very flippy, but it will always have a special, place in my heart.

I had a G Star tern as one of my distance drivers when I was first moving up to distance drivers.  For a beginner, as long as you can get a clean release, the tern is great.  Understable enough to get decent distance while not being too understable to use in the wind.  My G star tern was great when I was first learning.  I took it out a few weeks ago just to have fun and my God was this thing a great roller disc.  Throw it one hyzer, flipped and rolled.  Throw it flat, flips hard and rolls.  Throw it on anhyzer and it flips all the way over onto it's back.  This is the only tern that I've thrown so I can't speak for them all.  If you're a beginner looking for your first distance driver, take a look at the tern.  If you're an advanced player the tern will make a really good long distance roller disc.

Had the Gstar along with the champion tern. I preferred the champion but pulled out the gstar for some extra grip in rain and cold

For someone like me who has the basics of backhand driving down, but doesn't have a massive arm, the Tern will maximize your distance.  It's slightly understable and will live up to its name by turning over a bit, but I've never had it run away on me.  Lots of glide and just enough fade to keep it under control.

The plastic and weight this mold is in makes all the difference in its flight. My 171gr Gstar Tern is my go to straight low ceiling driver. However,if I put 100% on it,or if there is any headwind,it will turn over and probably won't come back. But it's not a surprise...just my fault. I have 3 in different plastics and weights;Champion,Star and Gstar in order of stability. So,I do recommend them for Rec players and slower arm speeds. The Tern does what it is supposed to do. It gives easy distance for those of us who don't have cannons.

I throw about 300 ft with a good drive, 325 ft occassionally.  I had a GStar Tern 171 gm that would turn over perfectly and keep on flying to give me more distance than all my other discs.  Into the wind, it's no good for me, turns over too much.  The fade is not too much, just perfect.  It's a great disc when there is no wind.  The GStar plastic is my first choice now, but I'm not sure how durable it is.

I went to the Innova Distribution Center in California.  They were gracious enough to give me and my son a tour.  Then they gave us the "best" disc they had - a 171g G-star Tern.  It is not a stiff disc.    It is absolutely better than any other disc I have -  better than Katana, Valkyrie, Shark, Roc 3. I throw a RH forehand with a slight hyzer angle.  It straightens out, glides a long distance, then does its "S" curve.   Awsome disc for getting distance from this old man of 60 years old!
