The Shryke reigns supreme! It has been my go-to distance driver for years now and I can at least three of them in my bad at all times. Other than headwinds, it can handle every scenario I throw at it.

Great max distance disc for a variety of arm speeds. Find one with extra dome and it will glide forever.

My star Shryke has become my go-to flippy distance driver. As I've beat mine in, I use it for full flex s-turn shots that just bomb. As the flight numbers suggest, you can expect this disc to turn if you have intermediate to advanced arm speed. It is still a 13-speed, so it flies straight with finish if you happen to not get enough velocity on your throw. In a moderate head-wind it will burn over and cut roll, but it is perfect in calm to tail-wind conditions.

This is my go-to distance driver. As a beginner with a lower arm speed, this disc flies super straight and flips up pretty. With more power, this disc bombs down the fairway and flips up with a super straight flight and a reliable finish. It is amazing straight out of the box and seasons nicely as it beats up.

I bought this disc used.  I started using it as my long bomber disc and then also started using it as a roller disc.  I would throw on hyzer if I wanted a full flight air shot and throw it flat and hard to get it to lay down for a roller.  It was great until I was teeing off ontop of a hill with a left to right breeze.  I threw it on hyzer and it popped up and then caught wind and sailed about 200 feet off the fareway to the right never to be seen again.  I have other discs close to the same numbers that I am throwing now but if they do not work out then I will be coming back to the shryke.  You could get it to do a variety of shots depending on how you throw it.  Really easy distance.

Not a good disc if you are starting out but if you have a little bit of a faster arm speed you can get this disc to flip up to flat or even turn on a hyzer flip with max weight

Somewhat of a beginner here; been playing for 9 months and throwing 300' max. I started turning some of my 11 speeds and thought I might be ready for a 13 speed. I rushed to my nearest shop and grabbed the lightest star shryke they had, 160g. I am immediately in love with this disc. It is so unlike anything in my bag. The best way I can explain it is: this disc is effortless. In my mind, I should not be able to turn a 13 speed disc and have it stay in the air like this disc does. It confuses me. It's as if every disc I own has a parachute on it while this one grows legs and runs out of my hand. It's by far my furthest flying disc as it stays in the air forever. Easy hyzer flips right off the shelf. Definitely recommend!

Somewhat touchy and susceptible to anhyzer disaster rollers, if you're able to get it going it GOES. First disc I've thrown over 400ft after being stuck at 350-375 with my Star Destroyer. Great for hyzer flips too.

I do like shrykes a lot. I prefer my tern currently because I find it more workable, but for max distance the shryke probably gets the nod. I usually drive with destroyers or emperors but when the fairway is wide open and I need max distance I will disc down to a shryke or something similar.

It is surprisingly consistent, however, for an understable driver. I feel it is pretty forgiving. I tend to throw a hyzer flip to turn and it gets a pretty full flight for me (400 ft or so). I also throw this disc uphill frequently. Star feels great, and mine is honestly pretty domey. I'm not sure how it compares to others, but thats what I've noticed. Very comparable to my pharoah.

The Star is my all time favorite disc. I've spent a lot of time and money trying to replace it but it is the straightest longest most reliable disc I've had.

I love the star particularly. I have a champion and no complaints there either but be aware the numbers are different for the championship. It is a 13/6/-1/2, more fade, as the star is a -2/2. It does make a difference since it seems like the star is more like a -1/1 when I compare it to other -2/2 discs. As it breaks in it becomes a slight bit more understable, more like a -2/1 so the championship is made to compensate for this in the long run. Personally I don't mind the slight change in stability. It isn't really drastic enough to matter. A great glide with a forward fade. A broken in disc just brings the disc slightly to the right rhbh or left rhfh. It's slightly forgiving and easy to keep down on the deck with huge skip. Some say it is vulnerable to wind and a cross wind can affect it and a head wind is a killer but it is not as bad as some other discs because it throws straight flat. I have found that the Ballista or Astra are good alternatives or just as good. Ballista better in the wind and Astra worse only because it's hard to keep down in lighter weights. This disc can easily become your best friend for those straight shots, low ceilings and tunnels. Can hold a nice hyzer/anhyzer turn.

The star Shryke is probably where you should start if you just trying your hand at distance drivers or if your an advanced player looking for a long turnover shot the still has a dependable fade on the end. This disc really shines in star plastic, i throw mine on forehand shots where distance is needed over all else, thrown with a touch of hyzer it will flip up and even turn a good bit but will go a mile.

No two Shrykes I've ever thrown have been the same. They fly unpredictably, sometimes hyzering out but sometimes turning over and never coming back. Which is indicative of high speed discs that try to be both over and understable, it's just a crapshoot what you are gonna get. Not to mention the 13 speed rim is not comfortable. I'd spend my money more wisely and go for a roadrumner or sidewinder, much more dependable.

This was a disc I was very cautious about throwing and trying to get distance out of. At first this was pretty true as well I thought I would be able to hyzer flip the shryke easier than I could. That is defiantly true for a lot of beginners, if you are one I would stay away from the Shryke and use a disc with less speed. As a beginner the rim will feel really big and it will dump quickly. If you are an intermediate player this disc could become your furthest distance disc by a long shot. If you can get a shryke up to speed and get the flip this thing gets ridiculous distance and glides forever. As for a forehand I don't throw a shryke on forehand much just because I prefer more overstable discs that can handle the torque. If you are comfortable throwing on hyzer and want to flip the shryke up this thing could be great for some bombs. You will not see this thing turning all the way over very much and it will glide for a very long time if you throw it correctly. You can definitely shape a lot of lines with a shryke to hold anhyzer with a fade or flip to flat.

All in all if you have the arm speed to throw a shryke you may be breaking your distance records.

This is the bomber you've been looking for.

I was hesitant for a while to pick one of these up due to its 13 speed rating, but while searching for a stable Distance Driver I decided to finally give it a go and I have not regretted the decision since. First off, I would like to disclose that this will not be a beginner friendly disc. However once you have developed your game a bit and begun to acquire decent form, this disc will be a go to for your long range drives. For me this is the most controllable distance driver you could ever throw. You can really get it to stay in a straight line for quite some time before it starts to fade out. And if you're looking for just giant distance with plenty of room to work with you can swing this disc out there and know that it will predictably fade back to center so long as there is not a severe headwind.

I believe the 13 speed rating is a bit off as it feels more like a 12-11 speed but it certainly glides as rated and because of the -2 turn and 2 fade it will be a very forgiving and neutral disc. I rarely see this disc burn over to the right (RHBH) unless its a strong headwind and even when I put a little too much hyzer, it still holds that center flight position for much longer than I expect it to.

All and all, it is a fantastic disc that will help you start gaining much more distance on your drives once you have begun working in Distance Drivers into your bag.

3x star, 1x splatter star, 1x champion all 172g+. I throw max 65 mph for reference and play at 6k feet elevation (430-500 ft max)

Star: This is my go to max distance tournament driver. I hit it with a slight hyzers and it gets a full flight. I can throw it higher with a flat to slight anhyzer release and it flattens at the end. One of them had a strange top (no dome) and was a factory second and didn't go as far.

Champion: slightly more stable but I picked out a more over stable one in person. Brand new I can use it for full flight forehands to ~380.

The splatter star has way more stability and feels like a different mold even. The parting line is sky high. It has crazy grip.

At sea level and my arm speed, this mold would be too touchy as a go to but it's perfect here.

This is a great disc for intermediate level players to get max distance out of your throws. I maxed out with the shryke at 420' by throwing it flat and letting it flex. The shryke has the perfect balance between getting a nice turn with reliable fade. Also great for hyzer flips to get long straight flights. Can't recommend this disc enough for a go to distance driver. I wouldn't recommend to a beginner just because it takes a decent amount of power to get the disc to perform correctly.

So right off the bat, this thing BOMBS. I got a shryke because I was starting to get better form and wanted something that I could throw full power and get a full S curve out of. Boy does that fit the description. With most discs, my max distance is about 310-325, but I can get a shryke to push almost 400 feet. It's absolutely insane how easy it is to get distance out of it.

I wouldn't recommend it to true beginners because I don't think any beginner should be throwing a 13 speed driver, but once a beginner has been using 9 and 10 speeds for a while and is ready for a little more disc i think the shryke is an amazing option.

The only real problems that I have are the fact that it's a 13 speed so the rim isn't very comfortable and that because it's pretty under stable you need a little bit of room on a throw to really get the most of it it.

    Disc: Innova Star Shryke, 173g.

Feel: As I read through some of the other reviews, I notice some people complaining about the way it feels in the hand. I don’t really understand this complaint, perhaps some people have simply never thrown a high-speed distance driver before, and this is their first 13-speed driver? I absolutely love the way it feels in my hand! I find this to be the second most comfortable distance driver I’ve ever thrown, first place going to the Star Destroyer. But it certainly wins most comfortable 13-speed driver. I’m a huge fan of Star plastic, it is very durable, and grippy. One of my problems with Champion is that I tend to release a bit early sometimes, but that’s really not an issue with Star.

Flight: I love the way this disc leaves the hand. For some reason, it just feels good when I throw it. It was a bit overstable for me starting out, but now that it has been broken in, it flies true to the numbers. It has a bit of turn early when thrown flat, and a gentle fade at the end. When I throw a hyzer flip with this disc, I get a nice amount of turn early, and then little fade as the disc comes to a stop. I love throwing this with a tailwind, I can really get a ton of distance out of it. It’s my go-to driver when I need to get distance uphill.

Overall: This is a great disc! I’m very happy with it, and I plan on picking up a few more Shrykes as I progress. I’d say this disc is not good for beginners, as no beginner should be throwing a distance driver. Once a player has developed some good technique and form, and are looking for a first distance driver, I’d point them to the Shryke. The Dynamic Discs Captain is a great alternative to the Shryke, so if you don’t fall in love with the Shryke, I’d try a Captain. But this is a lovely disc, thank you Innova for continuing to make quality discs!

This is an odd disc that doesn't quicte live up to what it is suppoed to be. In order to get any turn a player needs to have a pretty strong arm as it is a 13 speed. I would say I throw around 350' and I cannot get this disc to make an S curve when thrown flat, it stays straight and then dumps quickly left (RHBH).

The edge and rim are no fun on the hand, and I was hoping this disc would allow me to throw a 13 speed, but it has proved otherwise.

You can tell as a beginner that this is a 13 speed driver. My noodle arm isn't enough to get the full potential out of this disc. I want to like the disc more considering the praise it receives at my local course, its just too much disc for me as a beginner. Until that day, It will sit on the shelf.

From playing with experienced players this disc can definitely bomb with a tail wind and a wide open fairway.

I've had several Shrykes over the years, some good some nothing like the #s.  They are very inconsistent and touchy.  At their best, these things just bomb but you will have trouble finding the right run and have to throw it quite well.  There are better options in this range like the Pharaoh.

This was one of the first high speed distance drivers I got. As a beginner I could reliably use it for hyzer shots, and now I am able to hyzer flip this disc, and get it over 400 ft. The Shryke is my favorite distance driver. I have a halo star plastic Shryke in my bag at all times. It is so easy to get incredible distance with this disc because of the large amount of high-speed turn and reliable fade. I can easily get a beautiful S-curve anytime I throw this disc (RHBH) in low wind conditions or a tailwind. This disc does not do well in a headwind, however. I usually will disc up to a destroyer if there is any headwind.

I highly recommend this disc to anyone with decent arm speed and looking for more distance. I think this will always be a go-to disc for me, even as my arm speed increases.

I've been undergoing a mentored form rebuild and have started to play with the big guns again.

I recently got 173g and 167g Shrykes. I typically throw X-Out I-Blend Pharaohs for max distance drives, which I can hyzerflip or throw fairly flat and reach 375-400' with my current form.

I'd read somewhere that the Pharaoh is based on the Shryke mold. I'm not sure if that's true, but they feel very similar in the hand. The I-blend Pharaoh is supposed to be a fairly mellow version of that mold. Compared to the Pharaoh, my Shryke in similar weight flies on an impressively neutral line. My Pharaoh will end with a bit more bite on the same angle. The Shryke will tend to carry forward more. However, at my armspeed it's pretty true to the angle if I don't give it a ton of OAT. Even with similar ratings, I find the Champion Tern to be way more sensitive to angles and more inclined to drift into accidental rollers or turnovers than my Shrykes. I do notice that the 167g is somewhat more manageable than the 173g for my armspeed.

Like most high speed molds I wouldn't recommend them to true beginners since they're so sensitive to bad releases and more armspeed is needed to maximize them. But among long distance drivers, I can see this being a versatile model for an ~intermediate arm on up. If I gain more power I'll be curious how the Shryke fares, but it's a good and versatile max distance disc. It's in the bag for bomber courses for now!

I feel like this disc needs a warning with how much glide it has!!! It defiantly has a lot of turn and it likes to hold the turn for a long time and then fave the fade work quick to level it out. If you have a lot of power I would recommend maybe as a roller disc as when ripped on it will turn a lot. With a good throw it will do a nice hyzer flip that will glide forever it seems.

I would recommend as a good driver for low speed players once you have good form, the glide will help you get some good distance out of it.

Love this disc for hyzer-flips!  I live in the mountains so all my discs fly overstable, so I had to grab this understable shryke in order to still crank my favorite hyzer flips! It is definitely able to turn over a bit once I am at sea level and get some great anhyzer lines, but for when I am at high altitudes it flies beautifully!

Well, I always wanted to give this disc a try and am disappointed with what I got. I must have gotten a bad mold because the disc is painfully under stable. I have to throw it at an insane hyzer angle to get it to flip up. I throw about 400 feet on drives so its not like I have a crazy amount of power.

I've been playing for almost four months now and I finally feel like I'm starting to get more consistent in my form. Rather than always throwing flex shots with very overstable discs, I wanted something that I could through flat or on a slight hyzer that would flip up for me and get me that extra distance. This has become THE disc for that in my bag. I feel like would've turned this over when I was brand new and releasing everything on an anhyzer, but it's perfect for me right now.

I have so many different variants of this disc that it is almost sickening! I love this disc for any drive that is not into a headwind. I cannot emphasize this enough!! Do not throw this disc into ANY headwind, no matter how little, as it will turn over and die and you will lose any distance unless it turns enough to be a roller. Tailwind is fine, crosswind is fine, no wind is fine, but NO HEADWINDS! This disc can get MASSIVE distance when thrown flat or on hyzer as it has an incredible s-curve/flex line. Something to also keep in mind is that if you can throw with insane power and can drive over 550 ft relatively easily, this is NOT the disc for you as it will (even with it being a speed 13) be overpowered and turn over and die unless it is thrown with significant hyzer and even then, may flip over. This disc is very reliant on a smooth release and if you throw it forehand, it WILL let you know if you roll your wrist, because it will crash hard into the ground. This is a FANTASTIC disc and is very consistent.

This disc bombs. If you have the room to run or good angle/height control on hyzer flips this goes far. Great disc for intermediate players just getting into distance drivers.  This is the first disc that I was able to break the 400ft barrier with and it currently holds my max field distance of 412ft and a couple of my longest actual golf shots as well. You need to take your time with it to figure out the right angles and heights to make it work on tight fairways but it is very workable. The turn is big but if you're still flying after the turn it will fade back to near center although a right finish is probably more common when thrown flat and low. I'm predominantly a backhand thrower but this also does well for me on flat forehand shots that snake around trees.

175g Star. Here are some things I use this disc for:

    1) Throwing high anhyzer shots uphill

    2) Hyzer-flip shots where I want a lot of late turn and little to no fade

    3) Making people think I have a bigger arm than I do

Seriously. It can be a little touchy, but if I have a big open shot, this disc will go 50ft farther than any other disc I've ever thrown. Even without big arm speed, the high glide on this disc will give you extra distance. That high glide also makes it a bad choice in windy conditions.

This is my primary RHBH distance driver. It took a long time to break in, but it's starting to stable out and turn like its supposed to. It was very overstable starting out, but it's great now for straight, long drives and turnover shots.

Have had my star shryke for over a year now and have to say it is probably my favorite disc so far and the first disc I had a love affair with. Let me start off by saying I throw RHFH so this review will be all based on that throwing style.

I got this disc when I was still fairly new to disc golf and wasn't exactly sure what all the number ratings meant. Using a 13 speed is quite high for a beginner but this disc seems fairly friendly to beginners. When I initially threw it I couldn't fully get it up to speed so it faded out a little more than I liked. Once it became a little more beat in and I became better this disc quickly became my favorite disc. This is still my go to disc for an open fairway shot. I can typically get consistent shots over 350 ft on a flat open fairway. I noticed when you first have it it doesn't seem to have too much turn an will go quite straight then have a nice subtle fade to finish out the drive which can be quite useful. Now after playing with it for so long and it becoming beat in the turn is more noticeable and it gives more of an S-shaped shot which is still incredibly useful.

The plastic I have this disc in is star plastic which is by far my favorite plastic. It has a very nice grip with a nice lip for forehand players. What I love about the star plastic is it is a little give to it and isn't very stiff which helps with the grip even better. This disc just feels good in your hand which I think affects how people are able to throw it. The star plastic is also super durable. I have thrown shryke into many trees over the year I've had it and it stills holds up great today, just more understable than before.

Overall I think you can't go wrong with this disc whether you are a beginner or a veteran. I plan on purchasing another one in star plastic soon!

The shryke has been in my bag for over a year. It was the second high speed distance driver i ever got and the first one I ever had a love affair with. That said as I've gotten better and my arm speed and angle control improved this disc has become one that I don't use as much. The -2 stability and 2 fade offset one another as you increase power making this a more understable eisk flight in a power situation. Hyzer flipping this disc is difficult for me still and I have yet to really use it that way.

Where this disc has come to shine for me is in a long RHBH roller. Put this on a hard anhyzer angle and it will stand up perfectly on a long roller.

Good for beginners with fast arms and decent form. This would be too fast for completely new players learning to throw discs for the first time. As an entry level/intermeiate player I bag a star shryke as my go to distance driver when I need to get out past 350-400 feet on an open fairway. I also have a halo shryke and it flies about the same as the star for me. This disc has a pretty forgiving flight. If I put it on too much hyzer it will still flip up and fly straight for a while before fading out pretty hard. If I throw it nice and flat I get the nice s curve and miles of glide. If I somehow put it on too much anhyzer or overcook it (not usually a problem for me) it does turn hard, crash, and burn. In my experience this disc has slightly more fade than turn, could be the disc or it could be me.

I am ashamed of having this disc in my bag, at the start it was a nice stable disc but now all that happens is it flips over into the dirt, I think I am going to soon have a pretty big hole in my back yard from all the ground outs. I would buy a flippy destroyer

The only credit I will give it is it works half decent for rollers.

I have it in the star plastic I think champion would have turned out better

Found a Star Shryke about 2 months ago on my local course with no name or number to contact. From the 1st throw, I knew this was my reliable distance driver. The 13-speed seems a bit misleading, because I can throw this on a 75-80% speed and get an extremely straight flight with this disc. Thrown several 450'+ when I really let loose, but the Shryke consistently produces 375' - 400' drives. This disc will work for forehands, but is not extremely forgiving. Using this as my backhand disc is where the money is!!!

This disc is my go to distance driver.  Don't let the 13 speed intimidate you, this disc is easy throwing. It is true to it's flight patch, and reliable in the wind, as well.  I would highly recommend this disc, for someone looking to move up to a higher speed driver and add distance.

Disc - Star, 156g, Red...because it makes it go farther.

I'm an average player with an average arm.  I can throw 280 to 300 feet when things are going right.  I say that because I had always tried throwing heavier discs until I took the recommendation of a friend said I should try a higher speed disc at a lower speed and behold it worked.  I have tried a few different others but the Shyrke has been the most user friendly, and least likely to turn over.  I'm getting easier longer distances with my throws with less effort.  I should have swallowed my pride pill and tried this earlier.

So I got my Star Shryke on a trade from a buddy. My buddy was a beginner and was having trouble getting anything out of the 13 speed and I had just lost my go-to champion dyed Daedalus. And I was super bummed because I love the Daedalus, I have had multiple, anytime I lost one or whatever, I'd go and grab a new one. My first distance driver was a Daedalus, and I LOVED IT. I was very familiar with how it flew, I could BOMB it and could shape it any which way I wanted to. I'm a RHFH dominant thrower. It's how I first learned how to throw a Frisbee so it's what's most comfortable to me. But anyway, being a FH dominant thrower I'm super particular about how the rim feels against my grip, AND for a driver to be my "go-to" I want it BOARD FLAT, the flatter the better with both the flight plate and the bottom of the rim... I had never thrown or even held a shryke before losing my Daedalus, but as soon as I put it in my hand we clicked, the grip felt perfect, PLUS this particular shryke is paper thin. I hadn't even thrown it before offering to trade something for it... I figured with the shryke being star plastic and being rated -2/2 and the Daedalus being champion (a more stable plastic) rated at -3/2 and the speed and glide both being the same, that the flight path would be relatively similar. But, the one thing I noticed with the grip of the shryke, it felt GREAT for a BH grip too which my old disc was not that way... I was intrigued. We traded before I ever even threw it. And let me tell you, I can ABSOLUTELY CRUSH a drive with my shryke. It doesn't seem as glidey as the Daedalus did. But I'm alright with that. Just makes it a little less affected by the wind if I ever HAD TO throw it with wind. I would rate it a 13.5/5/-2/2. It bolts out of my hands when I throw it. Resembles my 14 speed corvette in that way, less glide than other 6's out there. But long story short, this is now my go-to forehand driver. I can forehand it, on calm days 400'+, down wind go ahead and add another 50-75', I can flat footed flick this thing over 300 as well. But I LIKE using it BH, throwing flat, when I need the natural S-curve that will fade a little more than it turns. Great for tunnel shots and low ceilings. And also you can do a lot of stuff with it after it hits the ground.. It's by far the best Skipping driver I've ever thrown and it's also easy to get it to funnel down a hill to a basket at the bottom, just let the disc fade into the hill side above the basket and watch it hit, bounce and then funnel right down to the basket, it literally never fails. I absolutely love my 172g Star Shryke so much so that I'll never buy another Daedalus again, unless purely for nostalgia. BUY THIS DISC! You won't regret it.

    Disc: 149g Star Shryke

I got this disc as a very inexperienced beginner from a local sporting goods store. I only had 3 discs at that point, and they were a pretty random variety of ones I found on a course without numbers on them, so this thing blew me away. I went from 125-175ft to 200-250ft max drives almost instantly by getting this (my highest speed disc was only a 10 before this though.) Awesome disc for beginners, especially in light weights. Way more controllable than any 13 speed can be expected to be as well. Can not recommend this enough!

When I originally received my disc, it was a little more overstable than I expected, but I still loved it. After beating it in a little bit, the disc stats became more accurate and I was able to throw this over 450 on a forehand flex shot. The glide is excellent and can hold lines after it gets beat in a little bit.

I love my Shryke. Its my go to distance driver for both backhands and forehands. I don't have the arm speed for most 13 speed drivers but this disc flies great for me.

I also bag a dx beast, and the Shryke feels slightly more stable than it, and I feel much less likely to accidentally turnover the Shryke on full power shots. This maybe because of my armspeed but it works for me.

The Shryke is my go to for narrow, long, fairways where you want a tight S curve flight path, or an absolute crush in the wide open.  In Star plastic the flight path stays pretty tight, but at lighter weights and entry level plastics expect a wider pattern.  The discs feels comfortable in the hand, comparable to how the Destroyer feels, which is probably why I'm drawn to it, but with a much straighter flight and finish.

The Shryke is a very good understable distance driver. It will fly for a super long time, get a full flight out of it, and give you max distance. This disc will be a lot of intermediate players, or players not with huge arms, longest throwing disc due to the ease it is to flip up and get the full flight in the air. This disc has a great amount of glide to keep it going on for days and you can really rip some bombs with this disc. Even players with fast arms that can throw super far can learn to like this disc because they can put less power on it and get easy distance on some hyzer flip ups. I love the anhyzer shot with this disc because you can throw super high sky anhyzers and trust it wont turn into a throwler but will keep gliding down to the ground on that anhyzer the whole way. I think the shryke is a disc a lot of people could utilize and they are coming out with some awesome plastic colors for this so it will look cool flying as well. The only problem I have with the shyrke is it can get a little too flippy if you have any sort of headwind that is noticeable. You really have to be aware of wind and what angles you are throwing this disc on but if you do this thing will go far.

I currently have this desk in star x-out. Previously had another star and champion which I traded away. If I release correctly and in ideal conditions the disc flys far due to high glide number. I m don't throw often due to the fact I really have to turn down arm speed and often hyper flip to flat. It does fly as far with a slight flick for me as other overstable drivers that I really put all of my  arm speed into. As other reviews have said it isn't something I would attempt to throw into headwind.

I tried the star shryke and I have to say, Its great or a 13 speed. It's true that you do need an arm for a better flight. However, the rim on this disc is very nice for a backhand throw. For a high speed distance driver the shryke is definitely something to start on. Fairly stable in almost any flight with any type of wind. I would absolutely give this disc a try for any player that's in between the category of beginner/intermediate. The disc has more fade though than turn so I would put the numbers at 13/6/-1/2.

I got this disc looking to get a little more distance than I could from a destroyer. I've found this disc to give me about 30 or so extra feet under normal circumstances and even more with the right wind. It feels true to form with its -2 stability and 2 fade. Ive only thrown this disc right hand back hand. I throw it with moderate hyzer and height at the left side of the fairway and it flips over riding anhyzer most of the way, finishing back to flat or with a slight fade. Great for tail wind shots or lower powered straighter shots when thrown with plenty of hyzer. I think this would be a good disc for players progressing out of the beginner phase of the learning curve as its comfortable in the hand. I would not however recommend this disc for anything other than mild headwinds as it can turn into a throwller pretty easy. Hope this helps!

My Shryke (170g star) has unlocked so much distance for me. I had only been throwing star destroyed and getting 310 ft or so of distance without much turn. I kept telling myself eventually those destroyers would beat in and get more of a full flight. I got tired of waiting though, and bought a shryke hoping it would be that beat in destroyer for me. Interestingly enough, I decided to work on my form at the same time I made this purchase so by the time I started throwing my Shryke I was getting some turn out of my destroyers. Regardless, when there is no wind or tailwind, it is still Shryke time for distance shots. I release it on hyzer and it flips to flat, turns pretty dramatically, then has a forward penetrating fade at the end of its flight. I've started to push it out to 370-380 feet and I absolutely love it. If i release it flat I can get somelong turnovers with it, too.

The only downside is I can't trust it in the wind. It gets tossed around. But when I do throw it I love it so much that it's a five-star disc regardless.

This thing is a Bomber in a wide-open field but I do use this on tight wooded shots with slight less power as well. I throw mostly RHFH and chuck this 400-430 ft regularly. If you forehand and want big distance throw this on hyzer and watch it flip up and make a huuuge S shot. It is affected by wind easily so watch out.

I just got this disc 2 weeks ago to replace the Ballista Gold Line that I lost. I thought I'd give it a try after reading many of these reviews. I love it! I have gotten my longest drives to date with this disc now getting over 400 feet. If I let it rip I'll get some turn but not a ton and then it always fades back on the finish. If I'm driving into a head wind I would stay clear of this disc. In a slight head wind I've done a hyzer flip with good results, but it's a touchier shot. All in all I love this disc and especially in the Roman Bomber stamp I purchased it in.

This is definitely a go to driver for me. My first time throwing the disc was impromptu round and I didn't have my discs with me. A friend let me use a few of his. I threw the Shryke once and never looked back. This is just an easy disc. I do understand that some people have some control issues with this disc and I do too when I throw it at full speed. That being said, I never throw my star Shryke at full speed, so I tend to get a very straight shot using a slight hyzer flip. When I want a throw with more turn and a dependable fade, I go with the lucid Captain.

I recently picked up a champion Shryke and it is a little more stable, so I'm able to put more on this disc and it just goes where I want it to without a lot of fuss. The fade on the champion plastic is a little more than I expected, but then again, it has not been beaten in yet.

The Shryke can easily be the first distance driver for a lot of improving players. Its high speed and immense glide will give a lot of people added distance and it is reliably stable for lower arm speeds. If you have a big arm, the Shryke will thrive as a long distance tailwind turnover disc. In comparison to similar neutral flying distance drivers such as the DDx and the Tern, the Shryke has a deeper, wider rim and certain runs have more dome.

This discs holds my own PR for distance thrown! It is a nice understable fast speed disc that almost always goes on a beautiful S-Line. The star plastic has a sweet stamp too! Definitely a disc for big arms and/or people that have experience. However, it tends to not always have a consistent direction (even tho it has my farthest throw, it tends to be very inaccurate).

This disc is awesome. I like it for RHBH or RHFH shots. If I have a bit of a tallwind and I need to reach the pin and have an open fairway, I reach for the Shyrke. The Star plastic tends to make it a bit more overstable at first but after a few bonks into trees, rocks, roots, etc. it will match up with the flight numbers. At least this is the experience that I have had with the one that I bag at 167 grams. I can flick this thing out to about 400 and backhand it to about 425 on a good day. I put a little hyzer on it, watch it sail out and flip up and turn gently to the right before coming back.

For a speed 13 driver, the ease at which you can flip this thing over is astonishing. It's the only high speed driver I've ever thrown in heavier weights and premium plastic that is true to its numbers from the very first throw. It flies similar to a beat-in destroyer brand new, but as it wears in it gets more and more understable. I'd very much recommend one to a low-speed thrower or a newer player for max distance.

I have been throwing this for my first 6 months. Having tried wraiths and destoryers that were slower speed, the shryke is really easy to throw and truly is easy distance. The only issue now that I'm getting the hang of things, is that is very flippy and terrible in headwinds.

That said, if you are just learning like I was, and start throwing things with a slight hyzer, this disc will be your distance driver for sure until you have enough power to throw more overstable discs for the same distance.

I have this disc in the Pro plastic and since this was my first high speed driver, I got in 150 grams. I absolutely LOVE this disc. This was the 1st disc that gave me the distance off long par 3's that finally gave me the chance to have legitimate birdie attempts. These were holes that are around 350-425 feet and before this disc, I was always throwing a short approach for a tap in par; not very exciting! This disc has opened up so many possibilities for me on the course and I am amazed at the shots I am able to make! I have had a lot of success with this disc even when the hole has a low ceiling. You can put this thing on a flat line and it will just cruise. It may turn over a bit but don't worry, if you throw it right it will start coming back just where you wanted it. I absolutely love the soft Pro plastic, and don't see why I would take this out of my bag anytime soon.

I never thought something would threaten the Kings in my bag, they are so smooth and get such easy distance. Then my lovely wife got me one of these as a gift. She was as the store and the stamp looked cool.

Now I have a difficult choice to make. It's got every bit as much distance potential as a King, has a gentle floaty turn and a gentle forward fade that makes this a huge bomber for backhand shots and tailwinds.

The wing is big, but doesn't feel huge in the hand and as long as you are not a brand new player that can't throw very far you can probably find a use for this guy.

And if you get it up to speed that hyzerfilp glide is unreal.

I think my problem with these before was that I didnt have the arm speed for them. They are bombers for sure if you have the arm. Very nice S curve in the air and tons of glide! I use this disc for downhill and uphill shots. Very controllable to the trained golfers but disastrous to beginners with inconsistencies in their throws.

I wanted to like the Shryke. It seemed promising when it was released. I purchased 2 one them, a pop top 168 G and a flatter 175 G. I took them both out to the field to do some testing. The 168 G out of the box was pretty stable. It would hyzer flip to flat, drift to the right and then have a forward pushing fade. It was a good disc so it made the bag. About a month after bagging it and it getting normal use it got super flippy and unpredictable as it broke in. The 175 was great out of the box. It flew like a seasoned destroyer. Not too much flip, just enough to get good distance, and then a reliable fade. Overall the shryke is a good disc at max weight. I wouldn't go any lower than that with it as mine broke in very quickly and it became very unreliable. In the hand the shryke felt ok. The rim is a little large for my hand and to me my flatter one felt pretty shallow. Like a DDX with a wider rim. At this point I'm going to just stick with my old destroyers and wraiths as my primary distance drivers.

I recommend this disc to everyone.  This disc is by far my favorite disc! It is a lot like a tern… but BETTER! I have pretty big hands and the tern was always a little too shallow for me and I could never get a good grip, but the Shryke fixed that, and now I have the best power grip. I bag three shrykes every round.

I can make this disc doing whatever I want.  I have a pretty strong arm (RHBH) and can throw around 400’-450’.  I can put this disc at any angle and it will do what I want.  I put this on a strong hyzer angle and it will flip straight for the longest time and fade with grace.  If I release this on a straight and flat throw, it will tern over nice and smooth with minimal fade.

If you’re and experienced player looking for a disc for GIANT tern over shots, this is for you!

If you’re a beginner and want to try a high speed driver, this is for you!

This is my go-to max distance driver! Any time a hole demands >400' distance off the tee, coupled with a wide fairway allowing enough room for the turn/fade to work, my Star Shryke is the disc I reach for. On a RHBH hyzer release, with no wind It'll flip up to flat, turn slightly and gently fade left, usually minimizing skip/keeping forward momentum. Released flat, with enough air, it'll turn right just long enough to scare you before fading back just as much.

Wind will make this one less reliable, with a tail wind, you're ok but with a noticeable headwind or left to right crosswind I wouldn't trust it.

For beginners, I probably wouldn't recommend this disc. Yes, it might fly farther for you than say, a Destroyer but I'd definitely recomend starting with lower speed discs and working your way up.

Also, this mold in glow plastic bombs out of the box. Very little-to-no break in time with that material.

This disc is pretty flippy. I have a 170 that flips and burns out nearly every time unless i throw it on a deep hyzer.

That being said if i throw 70 percent this thing gets great distance. Perfect us compliment for the destro.

I bought the Shryke as a longer Tern, and in a slightly lighter weight than usual (162g), and it's a surprise throller out of the box.  Not at all what I was looking for, but does happen to fill a spot in my bag.  Thrown flat at full power, my Shryke turns right immediately and starts rolling around 200ft, and rolls out to 375ft or so.  This is the only driver I have that behaves like this, so I don't think it's a form issue (Tern, Journey, Destroyer, Slab all fly by-the-numbers for me).

This disc BOMBS. I got this disc as a gift from a friend and it immediately became my go-to max distance driver. Before getting this disc, I was using a Tern to get that max distance, understable shot, but it started getting too understable for me as my arm speed continued to increase with practice.

I throw Destroyers as my control, reliable distance driver and I can get those out to about 375ft, whereas I can throw my star Shryke about 400ft on a turnover line. It drifts right a fair amount if I really rip on it, but it comes back to straight reliably at the end of the flight. I wouldn't trust it in a headwind though. It also makes an awesome roller disc. My longest drive with it (and longest drive ever) was a 480ft roller.

Friends of mine with good forehand form get a lot of distance out of it with a forehand as well. I'd recommend it to anyone in that 380-420ft distance range.

After using a beast as my distance driver, I was looking to gain some more distance. Starting to improve arm speed, figured I can try out the Shryke since it has a similar flight path. It's been almost a month and I love the extra 50-100 feet that this disc gives me. It's pretty easy to throw if you have some form and will fly like a valk/beast but more distance. Would definitely recommend this disc to someone who's looking to improve on their distance.

The jury is out for me on the Shryke. I don't have a huge arm so it is nice to know I can get an extra 20-50 feet out of my normal drive with this disc but I still find myself turning to other drivers way more often in any round. I recommend trying this disc out, but I don't feel like it will be replacing anything in my bag any time soon.

I had heard the Shryke was a deeper rimmed Tern, which really interested me as the Tern was too shallow for me to properly grip.  For me the Champ Tern and Star Shryke go about the same distance, but the Shryke is easier to get right, and is more forgiving when I do get it wrong.  I was able to consistently drive 400' if I gave the disc enough height, but not too much or I'd loose diststance and have the disc end much further right.  I'd say the Shryke is out of the box, a flippy Destroyer.  The Shryke added 40' over my Star Destroyers.  Unfortunately I lost my beefier Star Shryke while playing a tournament recently, though I have some Champ Shrykes on the way.

This is one of my favorite drivers. I find the line I can get from it is pretty consistent with only a little ground play when it lands. It's surprisingly flippy and turns over surprisingly easily. With a lot of headroom, it can really stretch out for the big drive while still controllable at lower speed. If you're good with Valkyries, the Shryke is a natural upgrade.

The Shryke is a great disc for just about anyone who needs to learn how to consistently throw a driver, however I would recommend taking it out to a field and getting used to the disc first. Going straight to the course and trying to bomb a drive with this disc will become frustrating. This disc is going to hold the line you put it on without a doubt (learned from experience) if you put it out on a hyzer line, it will hyzer, throw it flat, it will S curve and finish left every time. This is why learning the Shryke first is key. After I took the time to learn the disc I fell in love with the disc and now bag 3 just because of their versatility in any situation. Greater driver to have in the bag, just learn the disc first.

The Star Shryke summed up briefly is: "More stable than you would expect!". The Shryke was hyped on release as a big tailwind bomber disc. The profile of the shryke is pretty domey with the star plastic I had being a happy medium stiffness with a sharp wing but lower PLH overall. The grip for the Shryke is pretty good it feels substantial but not gigantic in the hand making great for forehand and back hand. For testing purposes my shryke is 175g and as mentioned a pretty hefty pop top.

I did not expect this disc to be so straight flying, I thought it was going to be substantially flippy and want to hold that exaggerated S pattern for longer than it did. This disc takes power fantastically likely due to the large wing size and it flies very straight with a smooth fade when thrown flat. When thrown on hyzer this disc flips up to straight briefly and has a nice dependable fade to it. On a straight shot this disc crushes flying a smooth S curve flight with a dependable fade. When I laid into this disc hard with an anhyzer it panned on a massive curve all the way to the end where it fought out a little. This disc glides like no tomorrow and generally despite not flipping much for me this disc went far. This disc is going to excel when you have the height and space to throw it as it does require a good bit of both to really get the most out of it. It's trickshot capabilities are okay but unless you have top tier power I highly doubt you will be rolling this disc when its new.

This disc handled headwinds surprisingly well when I was able to keep the nose down, that large wing makes it touchy though and I would definitely not bring it out when the headwind is whipping. Tailwinds into an open field are this discs M.O. get it up in the air and crank on it hard and watch this disc just bomb.

Rims too big, beginners will like the stamp, blah blah blah ya'll know the deal by now big rims and beginners don't go together this disc takes pretty solid armspeed to fly correctly.

Overall the Shryke is a pretty solid contender in the max distance driver category it's stability surprised me and for what it is advertised to do I think it does it fantastically. It's not going to be your go to driver for every shot but when that wide open rip presents itself the Shryke is a solid contender. 3/5 stars suits this disc well it does everything it advertises and nothing that it doesn't. Being a situational disc it's a great option to have but you probably need like 1 or 2  of them and no more than 1 in the bag at a time.

This disc is my go-to distance driver when I need to achieve maximum distance.  I play primarily play RHFH, and I'm not a big power player, but I can get a nice S curve out of this disc if I get a nice level release with it.  If I put too much anny on it, then it tends to want to roll into the ground, but that's something I've been working on.  Overall, I think the Star Shryke is a great disc that everyone should try out!

Edit: 3 years in. There are good shrykes and there are bad Shrykes. I can't tell what I'm going to get. The good ones have some turn and fade and fly forever. The bad ones are very flippy and uncontrollable. Buy a few I'm sure and you'll find one you like and some you don't.

Disclaimer, I have a 158 gram Star Shryke. I was looking for something that would be similar stability to my 170g star Tern, but with more distance. It was more understable than the tern (I attribute that to the weight). My dad (62) can throw the Shyrke about as far as any of his other discs, and he has pretty slow arm speed. I throw in the 350' range give or take, and the 158g Star Shyrke was pretty understable under those conditions. I'd be curious to give it a try in a heavier weight, but until then, I'd recommend the lighter weight ones for beginners.

The Shryke is one of the first true distance drivers that people stepping into the distance driver category should pick up. Due to it's decent high speed turn, if you're not quite at a huge arm speed yet it'll still give you a very far and neutral flight without having to overpower the disc, and it won't fade out on you in an extreme manner by any means. I would recommend this disc in star plastic to someone just trying it out, as the champion counterpart has a bit more stability packed into it. The Shryke is also versatile in the fact that it can be forehanded or backhanded with efficiency.

    175g Star Shryke

?Love love love this disc!!! I tossed a friends a couple times and really liked it. That evening I got on Infinite and ordered one.

RHBH, this disc if thrown fairly low and hard will fly supper straight with just the littlest turn and a very mild fade; however will glide for ever.

RHFH this is where I think the Shryke comes alive. If you have even a decent forehand you are going to fall in love with the way this disc will hizer flip and add 50 feet to your drives instantly.

NOT A GREAT HEAD WIND DISC, you need something much more stable.

    175g Star Shryke

I wanted to love the Shryke so much. I throw Destroyers mainly for my max distance shots but was hoping that the Shryke would be a slightly more understable disc that I could really air out. What the Shryke was for me instead was just a supremely straight high speed driver. It didn't really have much turn or fade. It is a great disc, and on my best throws it definitely flew farther than my Destroyers, but I just couldn't get the consistency out of it that I wanted. That being said I think if you're a medium armspeed player this will be a great max distance option for you.

I wanted a high speed driver that was less stable than the Star Destroyer, so I bought a 172g Star Shryke. After only a few rounds, it has replaced my Star Destroyer as my primary distance driver (unless I need to throw a big hyzer). It just bombs.

My previous max distance was ~380 ft with a Star Destroyer (still a great disc), but the Star Shryke adds 20+ ft consistently. The listed flight numbers are accurate if you really rip it.

Despite being +1 speed higher than the Star Destroyer, I can throw the Star Shryke more consistently. Minor throwing mistakes are less noticeable because of the beautiful, soaring, flight path.

My workhorse driver. I carry Shrykes in Champion, Star, and Champ Color Glow. They're great distance drivers that squeezes out every last foot of power that you have. In open conditions, I can put them out to 475-480' on big hyzerflips. I'd reccommend these to anyone who has hit the 380-400' mark and has plateaued.

I have 2 Shrykes now... Champ and Star, both 175g.  I've tried a lot of other drivers and I can rip these further than anything else I've ever thrown.  Will feel pretty overstable for beginners and players with lower arm speeds, but this thing flies if you are able to crank a speed 13 with proper form.  I would say the flight chart here is pretty accurate, even if you don't throw 450'.  My max right now on flat ground with no wind is about 350' feet and if I really rip into one, it turns gently for most of the flight then finishes left.  Amazing glide.  Highly recommend this disc in either Champ or Star for anyone with enough of an arm to handle it.  Also bombs if thrown on a FH flex line.

This thing's amazing.  I'm on my second one because I threw my first one so far it hit a part of the course I've never been able to reach before and rolled off into the realm of King Neptune (in air 60-70 ft further than my previous max+rolled out into the Pacific Ocean).  I agree with the statement that this is a faster Tern with more stability and recommend it to anyone who can control it.  I've only thrown star plastic Shrykes, and they've been great so far.

I have 171g GStar Shryke and a 171g Star Shryke.  I throw about 325 ft max on a flat field.

The GStar is definitely under-stable and turns over a little with no wind, but turns over too much into a slight head wind.  This has replaced my 171g GStar Tern because the Tern rim depth is more shallow and kept slipping out of my hand.  The Tern also is less stable than the Shryke which caused problems with a slight head wind.

The Star is more stable and stays flat for a long time with no wind, and turns over just slightly into a mild head wind.  This has become one of my favorite discs,  But if there is a medium or strong head wind, I throw my Boss or Destroyer.

To get right to the point, the Shryke replaced my Tern. It flies very similarly to the Tern, but a bit more predictable. I honestly think it's the dome that makes it this way, but the flight numbers are definitely accurate with this disc if you throw it in star plastic. I haven't thrown the champ shryke yet, but I can say that the gstar shryke is definitely more understable than star plastic. I would not recommend throwing this disc unless you are ready for a speed 12 or 13 driver, but if you are you will love it! Bad for headwinds, but great for open spaces! On a good hyzer angle, it flips up flat, and glides for days before having a healthy fade. I went from throwing 360-430ft with my tern, to just short of 500 with the shryke which is my max distance. There is a 480ft open hole at a home course of mine, and I've parked it with this disc more than any other I've thrown. I have 2 star shrykes, and I throw them both on that hole when I get the chance to in a casual round, because it's really fun to throw. I bagged it pretty quickly, and after I chained out the same 480ft hole I previously had trouble with accuracy on, I knew it was my go-to disc for open space. It definitely has a speed 13 thicker-ish rim, but it doesn't feel bad by any means. It is domey, but that's a good thing because I like to be able to dig my thumb in to the flight plate a bit.

The Shryke goes a long way. If you can throw 350 max with a 12 speed disc like a Destroyer, theres a good chance you will be able to throw a Shryke over 400. For people with higher arm speeds, the Shryke will be a great turnover disc that doesn't finish that hard back to the left (RHBH). I definitely agree with the 6 glide rating. I can definitely tell a difference between my Destroyers and Shrykes when I'm throwing in a field.

Love my Shryke. For me it's in between an S-line DDX and a Star Tern for stability. I throw about 415 MAX distance. When released flat, it rides right and finishes with a mild fade. When released on a slight hyzer it flips to flat and cruises for about 350 before it begins to fade out with a reliable fade that is comparable to both my tern and my DDX. Maybe a bit more than the DDX.

The Shryke is very domey.  The rim does not feel very much wider than a Tern.  The Shryke acts a lot like a Tern, as well... it's understable, will turn over if torqued or thrown into a headwind, and the flight patterns are similar to my Star and Champion Terns.

Where I have a problem is the hype for the Shryke. It does NOT fly farther than a Tern, at least for me, but flies about the same distance.  There is really nothing about the Shryke that compels me to bag it instead of my Terns.  And the Westside Destiny exceeded the Shryke for me.  The Shryke is a good disc, but not "all that".

Thankfully I was able to get out this weekend and play a competitive round. I used the Shryke (Blue regular Star plastic 171g)
I'll admit I was skeptical trying another 13 speed driver expecting it to be a Katana type disc that would either be too high speed understable or too low speed overstable.
The throws I got in (in conditions: 2*F-12*F, wind 5-8mph, sunny, calm) were all good. The disc flew very close to what the numbers indicate. I would basically agree. 13/6/-2/2. Mayyybe saying 6 for glide is a stretch, but....I can't say I'd disagree. Flew very nice, At solid power it had some turn, but it was a smooth turn allowing for more distance, the midflight is fairly straight, fade is reliable. Takes a slight hyzer release very well. Stood up and held a long straight line with some decent fade. The 2 most impressive shots came from drives that needed distance but also placement. Hole 17 Vision Quest Cedar, MN. You kind of have to sky shot over some pine trees and want it to land fairly centered. I threw flat with good power. It went on a sliiiight turn for half the flight getting good D and over the trees, then had a nice forward fade getting off the tree line to the Right and landing in a perfect spot just 50-60 feet from the pin. I ended up laying up that shot to take a tap in 3, but I threw a funzie and drained the shot (would have been an epic 2!) Anyway, next shot, hole 18 . This is a LONG shot. Fairly open. But you are throwing over a large pond. (It was frozen so no worries, but wanted to take that in to consideration) This was actually my best throw ever on this hole. Long shot, slight S turn , faded and landed in the center of the fairway about 100 from the pin. From my short time out with this disc I was very impressed. It was true to the flight # and the feel/flight/and overall ease of use was great. I recommend this disc for players trying to find that Max D bomber disc that will have some turn. (The best comparisons I could make would be a slightly more HSS katana, a beat to heck Star Destroyer, or a Longer Valkyrie) Only recommend for Adv/Open level players.
