    XT Details

Innova's XT material is a midgrade plastic that feels similar to DX, but that is substantially more durable. This is a tough grippy blend that is popular for putters and midrange discs.

This review is for the XT plastic in max weight.

I waited a few months to review this disc because I wanted to be sure that it wasn't just my skill level that was putting me off. I tried to like this disc but it never comes out of my bag on a course because I just don't trust it.

I don't trust it in the wind and it is generally unforgiving of my mistakes. For that same reason, I use it in field sessions a lot. I feel like this disc has something to teach. I give it the stock flight ratings because I do think those numbers are realistic for a light throw but if thrown with power it will turn and turn hard, like -2, hard. If there is a head wind this will go right and not come home. My primary mid (Buzzz in big z plastic) will handle that same power with like a -0.5 or -1 turn at the most and then glide to 300ft but is similarly not great in head wind.

There are only 2 ways for me to get that perfectly straight flight. Either hyzer flip it or throw it soft with a fan grip like a putter. The soft shot for me only goes as far as a putter, so I use my Alpaca or Particle for those shots. The flip up can be nice and straight but still doesn't go quite as far as a Buzzz for me. So I guess, I feel like the shots I can make with this disc are covered by other discs more reliably. I will probably bring it along for tight woods courses just to see if that's its niche, but again I'm pretty sure putters are my short gap hitters.

I still gave 3 stars because I do think it is a useful disc and its probably particularly good for beginners and it may be pretty good for people coming from an ultimate background too. I gave one to a friend who is just starting and he does pretty well with it just throwing it like a catch disc (shoulders relatively square to target).  I also think it is a good disc to practice with in the field because it'll burn into a roller if you round your shot at all, so I've been using it to try to work on correcting that error in my form.

Feel: Stiff rim with flexible flight plate. Flat, low profile with comfortable rim. Plastic is grippy.

    Flight: 5 4 -2 0.5

I am in love with this midrange driver for easy hyzerflip to straight tunnel shots and long hyzerflip to turnover shots. It is predictable. I also power down for short straight shots.

I've been a big fan of the Mako3 since I started disc golf. This disc just goes where you put it! When thrown with the right amount of power this disc flies bullet straight, or it will hold whatever line you put it on. It's an excellent disc for beginners and pros. It can double as a putter if you are low on discs.

Personally I throw a lot of forehands so I really appreciate the flat top and lack of bead. I think it feels excellent in the hand for backhand shots too. But I would say the thing that really reawoke my love for this disc was the XT plastic. The disc just glides for miles now and feels even more accurate than before. I could not recommend this disc more!

I love Mako3's.  My very first disc was a GStar that I still throw.  It is very understable now.  I also love XT.  Probably my favorite plastic for low speed discs.  This new XT Mako3 is straight and glidely out of the box.  Straighter than a stiff Star.  The grip though and the extra glide make this my favorite Mako3 to-date.
