The Katana is an amazing high-speed distance driver with major turn and fade. The Katana will move through the air like no other disc. This speed-13 driver has an incredible degree of high-speed turn (3) followed by major low-speed fade (3). Innova says this disc has “flight characteristics of the Sidewinder on steroids.” The Katana is capable of making huge turnover throws, and sailing for maximum distance.

The Katana is so much fun, if you can handle it.
It cuts like a knife, so watch out!
My 2nd Ace was with a Star Katana 166g.
This is my go around the lake disc.
It's a very fast disc that's worth mastering.

The Katana is a great compilement to your understable distance driver slots. Need to hyzer flip through a gap but need it to fight and fade no matter what? KATANA. Fits right inbetween my Skryke and Destroyer, where the Shryke might not fight out of the turn, and the destroyer might not flip up enough before fading. Katana is excellent for forehand and backhands that need to hit a gap then fade hard at the very end of the flight. Also great for tailwind drives when the destroyer will fade too early.

Updating my review because this took me a while to learn. This thing bombs forehand for me, even in wind. Further than my socki bot destroyer and I can trust this thing turning way more. It will always come back.

Only thrown this disc a few times but the numbers seem off to me, I may have received an extra beefy mold but I haven't been getting much turn out of this disc. Given it is a 13-speed I might not have been ripping it hard enough. But still works great as an OS distance driver.

I have a new-like white Star Katana. It is nothing like advertised. Definitely more onto the overstable side with a fairly decent fade. Still a great disc, I love it. Just not at all what I was expecting. I have seen some other Katanas thrown such as the pro and blizzard. These are both very closely related to advertisement. I have been playing for 2 years and have right at 500ft max backhand distance and about 425ft forehand and I can barely get the white star Katana to pop up flat. If you are getting this disc expecting to be like Garrett Gurthie on a 600 ft turnover. Do not get the white Star Katana. These are OVERSTABLE! Excellent for slight flex forehands and force over back hands but not for turnover shots.

I have a Star Katana that was given to me by an old acquaintance.  By the flight numbers, it's supposed to be a very flippy disc, but most times I throw it, I'm hardly able to get it to flip at all.  If I want to get any flip out of it, I have to keep it very low and nose down -- otherwise the fade just completely overwhelms everything else.  I have to caveat this by saying that I don't really have the arm speed to throw most 13 speed discs, but the Katana, due to its purported flippiness, is supposed to be an ultra fast driver that's still approachable by players with lower arm speeds.  I would rate the flight numbers of my disc at 13 / 3.5 / -1 / 4.

I've heard that the best Katanas tend to be the domiest ones, but this Katana actually has a slightly concave top.  I suspect that the lack of dome has something to do with this disc having such low glide and inability to flip.  I'm almost tempted to try one of those DIY tricks with hot water to try to create some dome on this disc.  This is a very wide rimmed driver and the rim is not very deep.  For many, it will probably not be very comfortable to grip.  For now, all these aspects combine to make a disc that's not very useful for me right now.

This is a great disc, it is very fast, and feels good in the hand. The reason I give it three stars is that it is inconsistent. It doesn't do at all well in the wind either. This is a disc that is good for only a few different shots to me, and with wide open fairways.

Found one of these on the course and attempted to return to the owner, he had already bought a new one so he told me to keep it. I never thought id love this dosc but I do. I found my niche with the katana throwing it as a Tomahawk/Hatchet. With a good tailwind this thing flips and bombs for days. Easily one of my longest drivers,

Disc: 166g Star Dyed Katana (beige, swirl)

Nothing too spectacular about this disc. Flies pretty decent. Some turn and some fade. Not super straight but not super dumpy. Good at all but master of none. I can see how this disc gets lost in the shuffle of all of Innova's distance drivers. Might be worth picking up, but it's not one that I'll keep in my bag or recommend.

Summary: Get it if you like the name, but no other real reason to get one from what I can tell. Not a bad disc, but not a great disc. Meh

The Katana is a disc that doesn't seem to be anything drastically different from the tons of other Innova offerings in the high speed driver category. The disc flew with some turn and then faded back at the end (I feel like this is just about every driver they come out with though). Its not a bad option, but it also isn't doing anything much different then other discs in the lineup.

Yet another dud from Innova. I got this disc in hope that it would be a big downhill bomber since it's got -3 turn and 3 fade to come back with.

Nope! This thing is overstable as hell. I've ripped it several times in several elevations and each time it just starts fading out, hard. I know what you're thinking, "oh you just can't throw speed 13 discs yet." Wrong. Majority of what I bag is a speed 12, 13 or 14 for distance drivers. I can get my Sheriff to turn with a -1 and less fade than this katana supposedly has. Even a destroyer I have is less stable than this.

Throwing this felt like it was like throwing a Gladiator, or a War Horse.

I've also watched people throw this disc in blizzard champion plastic, with plenty of power behind it, and it never even wanted to turn.

Needless to say, I am dissatisfied with Innova yet again.

I'm going to give the Nuke SS a shot now and see how it stacks up, given the same flight numbers...but Discraft seems to be much, much more on point with their molds.

I have thrown about 4 different Katanas, all beat in different amounts, and I can get none of them to fly well. I max out at 400 feet and this disc does not even come close to that for me without hyzering dramatically. This thing maybe goes 300 for me. I can't seem to find a line for it to take. Maybe good for a better player, but for beginners I would definitely steer clear.

I first picked up a beat up r-pro Katana from a buddy who couldn't find a place for it in his bag. I threw it a couple times and it instantly became my bomb distance driver. Like how things typically go in disc golf right as I was falling in love with this disc I splashed it down in a pond. I immediately ordered a new 166g Star Katana to replace the one I lost. As expected this disc was more stable than the beat in one I began with, but I struggled through the tree hits to get this disc to its perfect flight point. It soon became my go to distance disc again and I have only recently began replacing it with a more stable disc and my armspeed has improved.

This disc was great for me as a beginner. I lost mine and never really felt the need to get another one. I have tried out other discs with similar flight ratings to this one, and so far the katana has had the most consistant S curve flight out of all of those discs I have tried.

The disc that loves a big powerful throw and room to fly. Some are very stable and can fight headwinds like the best of them. Others are understable and can be a great step into the distance driver category. The Katana is a very flat disc, especially in the GStar plastic. This flat profile not only helps the Katana fly fast, it helps with the very wide rim too. When you have a rim as wide as the Katana you must have a strong grip on it in order to really get the disc up to speed. The slim profile makes it easier to fit the disc into your hand while not fighting a domey top. The slight flex of the GStar plastic also gives you the ability to really dig into it as well when you go for that big rip.

My max distance driver, hands down. When I crush it, this thing goes forever. Aiming it is the tough part. It took a very long time for me to break in because it was the star plastic, which in and of itself, make learning this disc tough. As I was learning how to deal with the understability, the turn, it would get even stronger. Now it's settled, and I love it. On windy days, I simply can't overpower it or it may end up in the next state over. This is also my "flex" shot disc. If I need a long heizer shot, I lay it over on a strong heizer, it flips up straight and then fades strong. If I need a long anny, it will easily hold a turn-over line. If I want a wicked long S-curve, this is my first choice.

I have two of these in 167g Star, and a very light 138g Blizzard. This is a great distance disc especially if you're looking for a high speed disc that's easy to hyzer flip. The disc is very versatile too. You can throw this flat and get a nice S curve, or control your curves with some hyzer or anny on release. I recommend this in a tougher plastic since it is pretty understable. My 138 Blizzard is already (even more) flippy. I'd really like to see Innova deliver this one in GStar plastic.

For some reason this is the one high speed driver I can throw consistently. I've compared rim widths to other ones and this is fractionally smaller and somehow translates in my brain to easier to throw. Love that if you get a bit of snap on it it will pop up and turn just enough to get a long straight flight with a easy S turn back. Its nice when you find a driver with this high of a speed rating that is this forgiving. If I was to introduce a newbie into the volatile world that is the high speed driver this would definitely be the one I would start with.

This is one of my go-to discs! Star Katana 175. Getting incredible distance throwing flat and getting the S-curve and with a slight hyzer release and taking off straight! Invest in one of these if you are looking for some distance!

I am not a power thrower, just get 350+/-. But I love Katana when it is beat up. I have star katana for a while and it is my go to disc. Unlike S curve, I get straight drive with a good fade to the left (RHBH) in the end. When it is new, I use this disc for short distances for normal hyzer to sky spike hyzer shots.

Absolutely love this disc. Throw it hard and flat and she will take a very predictable s curve flight. For me, this is one of the best disc for distance. I've thrown this disc 446' on a solid, hard rip. Wind doesn't affect my Star Katana much. Everyone should try a Katana if you have the power to turn it.

To add to the previous comments, this disc is also VERY prone to turning into an uncontrollable roller in the wrong terrain. I have seen it roll for over 200' in the wrong direction acrossed a freshly mowed grass field. When thrown correctly, I have seen some amazing S-bend drives from the Katana. The learning curve has always been a bit much for me to find room in my disc bag for it, even after 5 years of playing regularly. For those that can throw it however, this disc can be made to fly some crazy lines.
