The Katana is an amazing high-speed distance driver with major turn and fade. The Katana will move through the air like no other disc. This speed-13 driver has an incredible degree of high-speed turn (3) followed by major low-speed fade (3). Innova says this disc has “flight characteristics of the Sidewinder on steroids.” The Katana is capable of making huge turnover throws, and sailing for maximum distance.

Good disc, inconsistent mold maybe. I had one I could not flip into a headwind. My other one is great hyzer flipper and roller. Both in champion plastic. I don't know if this is just an Innova problem as I don't throw many other Innova discs. But I'm out on all Innova and this disc is why.

The Katana is my go-to driver in open fields or when I need a forced, early-turn-to-flat drive.

Once you have the arm-speed to crank it, this disc holds very true to its numbers. The biggest thing to look out for is when throwing the Katana in headwind it will not fade back and will hold its turn trajectory for the duration of its flight.

All of that being said, I throw this disc in Champion and Blizzard plastic and can count on it for my longest drives by 15-20'.

This disc is great and terrible all at the same time.  Everyone describes it as beginner-friendly - which it is when you have bad form and are in need of a tomahawk.  But no one has the arm speed of a 13 in the beginning, and the 3 Fade is pretty aggressive when you don't have that speed.  Therefore it is hard to throw accurately for long distances.  It nice to have in your bag and a good disc to get, but I prefer a Hades more.

The wing is a serious blade and the rim is super wide and rests nicely in the hand for forehand. This baby flexes like a snake and can hold a big anhy flex throwing nose up because that fade at the end is hard. I've met a couple dudes out on courses that strictly throw FH Katana's because of that fade. My beat in champion is surprisingly straight and has grown to show more of that turn indicated in the flight numbers. It's a crusher!

My champion katana was getting pretty understable so I put boiling water in it and put dome back into it and it works pretty good now

One of my homeboys throws 6 different Katanas in his bag, so you know I had to try at least one out for myself. The one I have is at 173 grams in the metal flake champion plastic. My first impression was that this disc feels absolutely great for a distance driver. I don't know what it is about this disc but it just feels a lot better than most distance drivers. As for the flight of the disc, I was not really disappointed. I was expecting it to be a little understable on a full flight, and for the most part it is. I think the natal flake plastic is generally more overstable no matter what the disc, and this particular disc is no exception. When thrown on a hyzer, the disc does not really flip up for me but does hold the line incredibly well and rides a long way. When thrown hard and flat, this disc excels for me. It has a looooong turn before its fade and grabs me some distance that it probably close to my max potential. This disc also holds anhyzer lines very very well to grab some good distance. My homie that throws a lot of these has them all beat in to do different things, so if you're looking for a distance driver to do that with, maybe give this one a shot.

I have owned a total of 3 Katanas and they all fly completely different. The first was in the Star plastic and it had trouble getting the turn out of it unless it was full on 100% thrown. After loosing it I found a champion Katana and it performed perfectly with a -2 turn. I lost that too. I bought a new one in the same plastic and it is a complete meat hook. It starts fading the moment it leaves my hand regardless of the power. I know it isn't broken in, but this is some next level fade that makes it a completely different disc. I will never buy another one because I have no idea how it will fly.

Disc - 175 Innova Star Katana

Feel - The katana has a very wide rim and decent depth to the rim. Star plastic is very durable and gives good grip in most conditions.

Flight - The Star katana is very different from the other plastic variations of this disc. It is still fairly under stable but if you give it enough hyzer you can get some really good distance out of this disc. Although it did not make my bag because I have a very beat up destroyer that already fills that slot I could see this disc being really good for players with slower arm speeds or players looking for an under stable distance driver.

Overall - The Star katana flies very well compared to the other plastics and I'd recommend it to players whose max distance is around 350 feet as I believe it could definitely add some distance to that max.

I found two of these discs on 2 different courses with no names on them, so I decided to give them a try. I threw them for about 2 weeks , and couldn't get them to fly like I was expecting, so I put them in my 'maybe later' bag. Forward 2 years- I went through my discs looking for some different weights of some discs I was already throwing. I pulled these out thinking I'd give them another try or pass them on. Wow, apparently my arm speed and skill have improved vastly. I love these discs. I'm consistently reaching out to 325+, and my controll of this disc makes me want to throw more and more. I wouldn't recommend it for beginners because a form error will land you way off from where you intended it

This is my max distance driver by about 50-60 feet. This turns over pretty easily with a hard throw, and when thrown high and hard will glide forever. I rarely use this on the course because it is a little touchy on the turn/fade so if you pull it a little bit, it will turn all the way over, and if you throw just a little too high it will fade out and be short. But hit that perfect distance line, a high hyzer to turnover and this thing sails quite a bit farther than other drivers. Beginners could use this to build confidence with distance, but I find it hard to use for anything other than field work because of the high amount of turnover.

This disc has some really fun shot shapes but it is impossible to consistently hit a target with it. It's one of those discs that isn't terrible but you could be doing much better by picking more intelligently. If a beginner is enjoying it, let them have fun. If an advanced player is still using it, maybe suggest some better alternatives to help them shave strokes off their game.

This is the second disc I picked up, with the first being a sidewinder.  I used the sidewinder until I felt I had the arm speed for the katana, but after I started using the katana I never put it down.  By far my farthest disc for RHFH, fore handing it I can get it out to 425 with excellent accuracy (within 20 ft of a 429 hole reasonably often).  Not my favorite for backhand due to the wide rim but this thing rocks for a long open forehanded shot.

Don't expect this thing to change your game straight out of the box. It is far more overstable than you're expecting from a -3 turn, at least when it's new. I've thrown this thing in Star, Champ and Blizzard plastics, and not a single time has it been flippy within the first few rounds I've played with it. If anything, they're more stable than the Destroyers I bag. In any case, if you want an understable disc that will fade out reliably at the end for low-power throwers, go with a Shryke.

When it works out they crush. for me a champion katana in the 160g range is at the top of my bag when it comes to big shots 400'+.

Having been a beginner pretty recently and doing research on what to throw for power i picked up several Katana in different plastics and weights and have been displeased with every single one. The way this disc ducks out at the end could be useful for some peoples game but i however found the sharp angle of descent often left distance on the table on my drives because the disc would cut down so sharp it would lose almost all its momentum. Maybe i was just too fresh for this disc and i should give it another go now that i can throw a little harder and with more control but right now all my Katanas are resting peacefully in my garage

This this disc is great for long straight shots. Also great for low ceiling shots. Lower weights are easy to flip over and max weights can have hard fade at the end. This disc is very good for controlling the angle at which you release the disc.

This was my first real driver after whatever I had in the starter pack.  I outgrew it quick, it's too flippy with much arm behind it but doesn't have the great glide of other understable drivers like a Daedaelus or Tern.

I've had two of these in Champion plastic, one was stamped -2 turnover and one was -3, they both flew about the same.  I'd call it a -3.

I can't really speak too much to what this disc does brand new, because I picked this up in the used bin at my local shop. It has some really great glide and it's surprisingly understable for how wide the rim is. I am used to high speed discs with rims like this being super beefy, but this disc is actually somewhat beginner friendly. I imagine that brand new it would be more than a newer player could handle, but when it's beat up a little bit it gets easy distance.

I know that a lot of people really like the Katana, but I just found I could not get the disc to me very well and I never had much of a love for it. The disc is very understable from the get go, which is good and all but I could not keep the disc from flipping into a roller right away. I was hoping for the big flex shots and all I would get were a lot of discs that would dive down hard and then cut roll in a circle.

While it was not a favorite of mine, I do think that this disc has a lot of potential for many individuals. I think that this disc would be suited well for the beginner getting ready to move into the high speed drivers. It can help with the distance out of those slower arms, and if an individual is looking for a good roller disc this is a great option. The wide rim really helps keep the momentum of the disc for longer than a fairway driver.

This is my favorite disc in the bag. I love this disc and its flight pattern. It ends up being a very strait disc after the turn and fade. Great for the long straigt holes. I use it every round on many courses and is the only disc I have ever had a hole in one. I love the extra turn it gives. Once the champion disc eats the dust or gets lost in some dumb pond, I am definately going to get the star plastic for the extra grip.

The Katana is a sometimes maddening disc. LOTS of variance in flight between discs and between plastics. I've thrown the Katana in Champion and Star and they sometimes don't even seem like the same mold. Star Katanas are generally flat and fairly glideless with a heavy fade. That hurts distance quite a bit. Champion Katanas are domier and tend to be a bit less stable and glide better. The flippy Katanas are outstanding for big S curve bombs that will go as far as any disc out there. The beefier Katanas are stubborn and will leave you wanting on every throw after they crash and burn prematurely. This mold simply has too much variance in flight for me to rate it highly.

I have this disc in champ 175g.  I have a pretty strong arm but this does nothing for me.  If i get it to turn over it doesnt go anywhere and usually it just fades out right away.  My pals and I call this the "tree magnet" because no matter where you throw it, it will always find the closest tree and hit it.

I got my champion katana about a month ago. It's taken me a couple rounds to figure out, but now that I have, it's a reliable disc that I like to throw. As it says, the champion plastic is more overstable than its Star counterpart, but that's a non issue. I throw with a decent amount of power, and I can get a consistent S curve with a steady fade at the end of each throw. With a good amount of control, the disc lands pretty predictably. Overall it's a great long distance driver that I'm glad I put in my bag.

I used to own a Star Katana a few years back and it was the greatest straight line hyzer flip disc I had ever owned.  After losing it and throwing countless other high speed drivers I ended up getting a brand new Champion Katana for free and threw it in the bag.  Out of the box the Champion Katana is WAY more overstable than its Star counterpart.  Still comes out like a rocket, and finishes with the same predictable fade.  Really fun disc to throw but would not recommend for those just starting out.

The Katana is a very trusted disc for a forehand shot. If I am looking for anything that is a straight shot, or tunnel shots that are out of reach for a mid range, it is my go to. (Forehand)  With my backhand distance drives, it flies like a faster Beast. It also adds another 30-50 feet to my drives. I would have to say that it's not for everyone, but I would still recommend that everyone try one out.

Just got a beautiful F2 Champ in pink. It's my new go to backhand driver. I get another 20-30 ft from any other BH disc. Has some nice turn and a decent fade to keep you on the fairway or do a nice S turn shot with a slight anny. The Champ is pretty stable, so I think as it beats in I might even be able thow it further on a Hyzerflip. Great overall disc, beautiful hand feel. For an understable disc it does quite good FH and even on tomahawks as well. If I need a disc to finish left. Either FH or BH the is the bunny.

This is currently the go to distance driver I carry in my bag. It's definitely not an easy disc to master and can be very unforgiving if thrown wrong. I think where most people struggle is it's a snap hungry disc. If you don't have enough snap to give good spin you may have some trouble getting the shots you want. But if you put in the time to learn how to throw the Katana you will be amazed on the type of lines you can hold with this disc. This is probably one of the most responsive distance drivers I've thrown.

Really a game changer for me. This disc taught this power thrower control. It can flip really easy but with the right touch it just sails. In the wind I keep a 175 champion and throw it about 5 feet off the ground so it doesn't flip so fast and get a nice roller out of it (otherwise I'm throwing max weight destroyers). With room and no wind I've thrown this disc over 500ft multiple times. Master the Katana and you'll add 50ft. Not for beginners.

Very fast disc, yet easy to flip. Longest flying disc I have thrown. Typically, it needs wide open spaces to work a huge flex shot. Poor in all but tail winds. The Pro, Champion, and Star fly very different; pro is domey and flippy, star is flatter and less flippy, and champion is domey and least flippy.
