The Katana is an amazing high-speed distance driver with major turn and fade. The Katana will move through the air like no other disc. This speed-13 driver has an incredible degree of high-speed turn (3) followed by major low-speed fade (3). Innova says this disc has “flight characteristics of the Sidewinder on steroids.” The Katana is capable of making huge turnover throws, and sailing for maximum distance.

Review for Metalflake Katana- Mine are max weight

Bottom Line Up Front: Its is pretty good starter distance driver because it has some flip, but its supposed to be a super long range turnover disc, which nobody really uses it for. Its probably a 3.5/5 rated disc and not a 3 or 4.

The Katana's rim is big, so it may not feel comfortable for smaller hands. I have big hands and long skinny fingers, so it feels great for me. I like the way metalflake plastic feels (basically like good Champ plastic).

The metalflake is a little less understable than the star Katanas. I like them for this reason. If you have a metalflake and want a little more flip, get a star. In my opinion the MF Katana is better than the Daedalus, which is its closest disc from the same brand.

I guess the conception for the Katana was very high speed turnover disc for 450ft plus turnover shots. I don't know that most people who throw the Katana use it for this. From my experience, everyone I see throwing it likes them for tailwind distance shots or are beginner/intermediate because they're a lot flippier than the gold standard 12,5,-1,3 distance drivers. This isn't a bad thing. They can be a great max distance disc for a lot of players. I've even seen Garrett Gurthie throw them...like super far.

At the end of the end of the day this is a love it or leave it disc. Try it out, they aren't expensive or that hard to find. I love them for certain shots. If you want it as a beginner distance driver that's great, but I wouldn't get it as a beginner player unless you've gotten really good with a Buzzz or something like that, and then a Teebird3 or Thunderbird.
