The Katana is an amazing high-speed distance driver with major turn and fade. The Katana will move through the air like no other disc. This speed-13 driver has an incredible degree of high-speed turn (3) followed by major low-speed fade (3). Innova says this disc has “flight characteristics of the Sidewinder on steroids.” The Katana is capable of making huge turnover throws, and sailing for maximum distance.

I have two Blizz Katanas in my bag. Mid 150's. Both are my distance bombers. My favorite distance driver! If you are a begginer or intermediate player pick one up. You won't be dissapointed.

A lightweight katana can be one of the most useful discs in your bag. I had a 137g blizzard and it was the easiest disc to get wide S-curves out of. Getting around trees in the middle was substantially easier with this disc, as you can get massive turn, but a good fade to bring you back. After a while though, it got beat into the point that it was too flippy for me and got lost in some tall grass.

I picked up a Blizzard Katana and really wanted to like it.  For whatever reason, I just couldn't get this disc to fly right.  It would either pull hard right (RHBH) and not come back, or it would dump left.  It didn't work for me, so I put it on the shelf and forgot about it.  My son then picked it up and immediately began ripping it all over the course.  It has quickly become his go to driver for accuracy and distance.  He doesn't have a big arm, but he has been able to hit 350+ on a couple of occasions.  His performance with this disc redeemed the rating to 4 stars.

I use 140g  blizzard katana for max distances. I have a slower arm. My average throw is between 280-300 but if I throw the katana like a hyzer bomb, releasing it more vertically. I can get it to stand up to flat then glide right. Its very useful in open fields with little to no wind. Adding a good 50-70 feet once you get the hang of it.

Disc - 156 Innova Blizzard Champion Katana

Feel - The Katana have a very wide rim that does not fit very well in most people's hands. It fits decently in my hands but not in most. It doesn't feel great for backhand or forehand shots. Blizzard champion plastic is very slick but is very durable.

Flight - The Katana is flippy especially in blizzard plastic. If I throw this disc with the steepest hyzer it will flip all the way over on its back. I do bring this disc sometimes for people with slower arm speeds who are wanting a bit of extra distance.

Overall - I wouldn't recommend this disc in blizzard plastic I can't say how it will fly in other plastics but I would not recommend it in blizzard as it is too flippy for players with any type of arm speed.

I was given this disc by a friend, I threw it in my bag one day and trying to figure it out.  Normally I throw the Captain or Catalyst for longer drives, But when my arm isn't feeling up to it the Lighter weight Blizzard Katana is great.  It doesn't care for the wind much but on a nice day it handles well when thrown on a hyzer leveling out with good distance and a nice fade.

I have found that on overhand throws the disc handles well and is reliable to respond as expected when needed.

A really nice understable distance driver for tailwinds. The Katana in the Blizzard plastic does some beautiful S-turns and can really be a stepping stone before someone throws a boss.

I have thrown my furthest drive with the Katana. Mine is a 150g blizzard. This disc has a very wide rim. For me it doesn't feel comfortable in my hand, as I prefer smaller rimmed drivers. But on the upside, I can get some serious distance with this disc and I don't have a big arm at all. The strength of my game is accuracy, not distance. So this disc does help on those longer wide open tee shots. I throw it at about 60-70% power and can get 400ft.  I don't throw it on windy days unless the wind is to my back. I have 5 blizzard Katana's and for some reason 3 of them are very stable compared to the other 2. I have heard other players say the same thing. The two that I throw have a nice S curve for that max distance. But keep in mind I am only throwing at a max 70% power to get that controlled S curve. A big arm player will most likely turn this into a roller. Out of all the blizzard discs I find the blizzard Wraith the most reliable. That is why I gave the blizzard Katana a 4 star rating, instead of 5 stars. But if my mechanics are right and the wind is in my favor, I can seriously bomb this disc. And that's pretty good for an older guy like me.

I think a lot of these comments are spot on. Let me touch on the RHBH anhyzer just a bit.

On my home course, there's a basket 334ft straight with path wide open to the left or very technical to the right. I've been using my Blizzard Katana with a huge anhyzer to ace run the left clearing. I throw the disc high, left of the teepad, with a huge anhyzer(understable), clear the trees, and soar straight to the basket with just a little pullback at the end. (little to no wind)

With the high speed of this disc, throwing anhyzer and wanting to stay anhyzer/understable... its not until about 275-300 ft that this disc starts losing speed and starts to level out. This give the disc the perfect approach angle to sink a basket. And if you miss the target... your landing area is a very predictable small circle. The last 30-50 ft is the disc starting to brake/flatten out, and land gently. No chance of a roll, bounce, slide.

I would highly suggest any advanced players out there who are looking for a similar shot to add this disc to their bag.

This is one of the first distance drivers that really worked for me and one that I still use today. When I first bought the Katana I was getting around 250' with it by putting it out flat and having it flex and hyzer out pretty hard. Now that I can throw a little farther I use the Katana for tailwind drives or sometimes long woods shot shaping drives. Generally I would suggest that a beginner stay away from high speed drivers but if it works for you then use it because I really did learn a ton about my throw with this disc. With the Blizzard plastic the disc just floats forever and if you are throwing in a tailwind it will go a mile especially if you can get the disc flipped over a little. If you have more than 350' of power I would probably stay away from this disc unless you want a really flippy driver or maybe even a roller. Overall the Katana is a great distance disc if you don't have a huge arm.

I love my Katana so much, I have 2! It took about 30 practice throws for this disc to break in and it changed from a crazy overstable disc to a slightly understable power distance driver. Just this last weekend, I drove to the edge of circle on a 450' hole. My advice to anyone looking to get a Katana is to not judge how it flies until it breaks in and you can really put power behind your throw. Anyone driving less than 300' will have a very hard time getting this disc to turn over.

This disc is understable enough to be thrown for some distance by a beginner, but has enough fade to not be a disc for rollers only. The Blizzard plastic accentuates the glide and turn by being so lightweight. If thrown with too much power flat, it could flip into the next county.

Overall a very useable disc for a variety of situations.

In blizzard plastic it's light enough to be able to hit the speed needed to make this disc turn and burn correctly. I throw one weighing 157g. On a steep hyzer it will flip to flat and maintain well before fading smoothly. On a flat release it will turn hard and fade back for a beautiful S-shot that ultimately would be a straight line ahead of the direction you threw it. Now the flipside, pun intended, is cranking this disc out on an anhyzer makes for an easy roller but it doesn't roll straight to save it's life. It will turn hard right if your a RHBH thrower. As I'm a LHBH thrower I get it to hook left. I have a few tees I like to roll from and they bend left so it's perfect for me.

Out of all of the disc that I have in my bag, this is my least favorite disc.

    Pros

The distance is great for a beginner

    Cons

I'm not sure if it was just me but I seemed to be highly overstable

Good distance, bad control. Ideally you want to get the Katana to hyzer flip and fly as straight as possible, but even if you do that you can end up significantly further left or right than you expected because the disc is easy to turn over too far, and even if it comes back you never know if it's going to take a little skip or a big skip when it hits the ground. If you want a sweet disc to throw in a field and impress your friends, then this disc is absolutely killer. I can't deny that it's a lot of fun to throw because it goes further than most other distance drivers you'll find, but if you're trying to score well then most people will probably benefit from a disc that has a little less distance and a little more control. But hey, if you have long holes and wide fairways on your home course then maybe you'll find a use for it.

I do not have a big backhand... yet. This is the first high speed driver I could get a solid S flight out of RHBH. When I started throwing it it was very hard to surpass 240' and now I can throw it 320', 2 months later. Not everyone has the same learning curve and I have had this Blizzard 156 burn me to fliptown a few times but overall, great disc to increase distance or learn hyzerflips on. I also use it as a FH roller that finished way left at the end. I lost my first one and immediately bought another. Westside's Destiny is another disc that is a fantastic BH learning disc.

I am just beginning and have thrown several distance drivers and this is by far my favorite. I throw mainly forehand and this disc is perfect for the way I particularly throw. I prefer a disc with a turn and fade that even out and the Katan seems to do it for me. I also love how light the blizzard plastic is.

The Innova Katana line has always had a sweetspot in my bag. Starting with a Pro Katana, moving to the Champion Katana, and then my Star. I have always maintained the disc weights higher then 170s (Preferrably max weight). However the blizzard plastic has caught my attention, and so I tried out the Katana. First of all, it does take a lot less 'arm' to get this disc moving with the lighter plastic, and it has given my regular distance with my star Katana an additional 60 feet or so. Naturally I will not complain about the additional footage.

CONS: I have noticed that my blizzard Katana has brought something else to my game which I would wish upon nobody... the griplock... Fortunately even with my griplock, it is pretty forgiving (aside from shaving distance off).
ALSO stay away from wind with the blizzard stuff in general I would think, unless you have a desirable cross/tailwind.

Even though the Katana takes a period of adjustment, especially at the high speed, everyone who has tried my Katana's out have wanted one in their bag.

I own a 146g Blizzard Katana and it is my go to driver for (RHBH) tailwind drives, especially off high elevation, this thing will carry and go. I will also tee off on holes that require somewhat of an S-curve . My arm speed nets me 300-320ft drives consistently, topping out at 340ft on some occasions and with that I will throw this flat and watch as it turns to the right before coming back to the left. For my lightweight mold, the -3/3 turn/fade is dead accurate flight characteristics. I will warn you that if the disc was heavier, at speed 13 it would be too much disc for me and I probably wouldn't have a use for it. For this reason, I guess the weight of it is a crutch I can use to get the proper flight out of it that would not be possible if it was heavier. It definitely has a place in my bag as it supersedes all other drivers in a tailwind or even high elevation tee offs with no wind.  I rarely throw a forehand and will avoid it if possible, but the few times I have forehanded this disc as a 2nd casual approach, it has flown pretty nicely. I may consider forehanding it more often at a later time, but for now this is a strict RHBH tailwind/elevation driver for me.

Maybe I just need more time getting to know this disc, but I have had it for a few months and cant control this thing. It most consistantly turns over hard and rolls. I get it to fade back once out of every 6 or 7 throws, but when it does, it goes around 350' with little to no effort, and I dont have a strong arm. Hard to recomend to someone that prefers overstable discs. I guess im just not a Ninja...

To start I have two katanas. One is a champion flat topped 175. And the other is a domey 148 blizzard. I currently keep the champion as a water disc and vary rarely throw it as the rim is too small for my fingers to fit under comfortably with the lack of grip in the plastic. The other problem with this disc is it's inability to have a consistent S flight. The flat top is part of this but after asking others their experiences with champion katanas the answer was the same no two S flights were the same with the disc. As for the blizzard mold. This was the first disc that I broke 450' with. That being said 450 doesn't come around often due impart to the fact that this disc can be very easy to turn and burn without enough hyser. When this disc is thrown flat and low it will float for days though and I highly recommend a blizzard mold to anyone having trouble with distance as a beginner.

My first disc was a 150g Blizzard Champion Katana. I bought it used in flawless shape. I didn't know much at that point, but I worked with it. For a beginner, the flight path is hard to manage and you'll probably be throwing "meat hooks" all day long. For that, it's similar to a Discraft Nuke SS. For once you've had a chance to work on smoothing out your throw, though, you're in for a treat. Almost two years later, my same Katana I started with still has a place in my bag. Now, I use it for big distance downhill, downwind shots.

I must limit this to the blizzard version as that is all I have thrown.  I don't think this disc is "inconsistent", as that would imply an issue with the disc itself; whereas, I am sure that my issues with it are more likely from the disc being "touchy."  The very first time I took a  katana out I fell in love.  I was new and it was the first time I ever was able to throw a flip.  It was my first real drive.  However, I also found that release is a major factor with this disc.  A little high and it would turn and burn or stall and fade.  After a few years I found that I had a pattern, I would buy a katana and then lose it the 1st found I played.  In the trees to the right (RHBH), or in the pond to the left.  As my skills grew I found other "flip" discs, but never found a way to get a consistent toss out of this.  I no longer carry one, but not because this is a "bad" disc, it is just not a disc for me.

This disc goes far, also it's pretty small so it feels like you have controle over it. My only issue with this disc is how far to the left (RHBH) it goes before fliping, more often then not its alread hit a tree before it's come back, this disc needs a lot of room to do its buisness.

Started playing 3 years ago.  I bought a starter set and when I thought I needed a better disc I selected a 145g Blizzard Champ Katana.  Fell in love with it.  I miss it dearly since I lost it recently.  It was the disc I got my first Ace with.  Hoping to replace it at the start of the year.

I found the Katana is a great disc for days that are calmer.  To me, it was a little more forgiving than a Boss or Mamba.  Though those two are not the best of comparisons.  This disc pointed out to me that I don't have the arm speed for heavier disc, such as 170g +.

I keep this disc in the Blizzard and Pro Plastics. I love my pro Katana for S-Turn shots, which is how I naturally drive. It is the only 13 speed driver I can control well and I have only been playing for a year. The Blizzard is great for long holes and hyzer flips. I only use the blizzard plastic when distance is more important than accuracy. I would suggest this disc.

This disc is my absolute favorite disc that I've thrown. One of the first discs I got was a blizzard 160g katana, and I could get an S-curve on that thing, and could easily throw it a good 20-30 feet further than any other disc I had. I had to upgrade to a heavier weight when I would release it on a perpendicular hyzer and it would roll. You can't go wrong with the Katana

The most comparable disc in my bag is a Leopard with +40-60'. If you can get a good snap on this disc, it has the most beautiful s-line that zigs and zags through the trees. I've got a 150g Blizzard that I use when there is low wind, and need to get straight out for 250' and fade hard to the left for another 100'. I alternate this disc with a Star Archon which I find flies a bit straighter.
