Want something that is going to hyzer hard and spike the ground? The Firebird is your disc. It does not give a flying crap about wind on a flat release, and can flex-shot HARD. The fade is sharp but still pretty predicable. I use this mainly for hyzer-spikes and weaving around trees.

That said, even though it is a 9 speed, you must account for the difference in arm-speed you need to pull the hyzer-spike off. Though I'm pretty new and use this, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone brand-new.

**I have a Champion Firebird, which I think is supoosed to be one of the more overstable plastics.

Star plastic, 166g, surprise gift from girlfriend. At first I hated this disc, it was an absolute  meathook and lifted and faded out at ~150-200 feet out. As my game has matured and this disc has seasoned, it is now my favorite disc in my bag. I throw it forehand/dogleg right holes up to 350, I throw it flick roller, I even upshot with it sometimes....and also my go-to for headwind shots (usual 20mph headwind at home course in afternoons) Such a great feel in the hand, so reliable. Firebird, often imitated, never replicated. Every bag needs one.

I got this disc in a misprint bin at my local disc store and had no idea what I was grabbing. I was brand new to the game and just trying to get discs to figure it out and I really fell in love with this one. When I started I loved hyzer lines. It was easy for me to throw and I felt like a "pro" when I could throw it over a tree. Obviously my game has evolved and I learned from that point but the Firebird taught me a ton about stability and understanding different shot shapes based on different scenarios. It is a meat hook and a go to for many players. I don't throw it anymore but I definitely recommend this to just about anyone that wants an amazing disc to add to their bag.

I got this in DX a few years back. It was way too overstable for me at the time, so I couldn't get much out of it. Now though, it has been beaten in so much it actually has become understable. If I throw it on an anny line (RHBH), it'll keep on going right for quite some time. I know most people like this disc for its stability, but I've got other discs for that. A good beat-in dx firebird is a mainstay of my bag.

This disc is probably one that should go in everyone's bag. Any plastic will do although champion or star would be the optimum one. It is true that it takes a stronger arm to really get those really long distances, however if you have a good flick form then it will go far enough for a birdie on a par 3.

Highly recommend this disc to anyone. Also very good to practice with when learning how to really throw a forehand.

    Not stable enough in DX!

I usually buy Innova discs in DX first to see if I enjoy the flight before I pick one up in a premium plastic.  For each mold I have tried, they do fly true to the flight ratings while the disc is new, and then predictably become less and less stable as the disc beats in.

The firebird was a weird case - in DX at 169g it is flying pretty understable for me straight out of the box.  I thought I was crazy too, but I have no idea what the problem is.  I really wanted something I could hammer hard on a sidearm for a force-over flex line (similar to what many pros do, but mine would be in the 250-275ft range).  My first throw I wanted to throw it hard and get a test case for the flight, so I actually threw it hard on hyzer...... and it flipped all the way over straight into a roller!

"Impossible for a Firebird!", you say?  The next throw I released it on hyzer with 50% power at most, and it HYZERFLIPPED all the way up into a full flex shot!  Needless to say that's not what a Firebird is supposed to do.  Since this review is for the Firebird in DX plastic, I'd say do not get it.  I'll add another review if I ever buy one in a premium plastic.

This is my go to control driver for forehand shots that will fly relatively straight with a consistent fade at the end. For me, even if I throw it on a fairly flat angle it will still turn a little before fading back

This is a good disc,to me it's like a Viper but little faster, great for hook around shots, and holds up pretty good in the wind

Like most people say this a great "first over stable driver" for beginners. I have found a lot of luck while using this disc and will probably be upgrading to the champion plastic as soon as I can as the dx just gets beat up pretty easily. This is a great disc for learning how to aim Hyzer lines and good disc for the wind.

This is a review of a DX Firebird.

This is a story of evolution. My DX is 171, so not a featherweight. I took it out for the first time in windy fall weather about a year ago. I was initially surprised by how far it went in a headwind.

A few serious tree hits later, it was no longer way overstable, more neutral.

As the months went by, it went to slightly understable, ugly, chunked. But it still flew far, even farther than before.

Now I use it on water shots, tailwind drives, and the occasional hyzer flip.

If you buy baseline plastic, don't buy understable discs unless you are a fan of rollers.

A DX Firebird, for 7.99, will give you an incredible and varied life of many discs.

FIrebird DX is my new favorite driver. Even though it is speed 9, it is easy to break in (by hitting more trees) and they are dependable.

This isnt my go to or even my 2nd driver of choice. But i do have a place in my bag for a reason. Its great on a windy day and for me my 2nd most predictable driver next to my leapord. Does break left but not nearly as hard as the other reviews imply. But i throw wraiths that personally break much harder. Again i dont throw this disc daily but its in the bag forbwhat i need it to do.

The pro firebirds are no longer in production and if u find one it is worth double what u paid. This particular firebird is the dx. This was my first dis c and used it everytime I went out until a tree cracked it nearly in half. Excellent fairway and approach...well that's what I used it for...has good predictable path with a left fade.
