I use it when I need dead weight. Risers, down shots, wind. Slippery when wet. Meh.

One of my first putters. For my throw, it goes straight on throws for up to 50 feet. It's been a great putter for me. Fade really only happens if I throw backhand (and generally throws longer than 75 feet). The fade it does have is very slight. I'd also say it's speed is a tiny bit slower than a 3 and it's glide around a 3. I haven't spent a lot of time throwing it over 120 feet lately though.

To preface this review I'll start off by making it clear that I am a casual disc golfer, I do not play every single day and I do not shoot 1000 rated rounds, therefore take this review with a grain of salt. However, if you are a novice or casual player like me, you might find this review helpful.
The Innova Aviar is one of my favorite discs. I bag two for putting and one for throwing. The Aviar is very versatile and can fill multiple holes in your bag. Out of the box, the Aviar is stable, meaning for right-hand backhanded throwers, this disc will fade to the left at the end of it's flight path. Brand new this disc is a great putter, the fade is reliable and the consistent feel in my hand gives me confidence when it's time to putt. The P&A  Aviar also has no bead allowing me to get a clean release. As you break this disc in it will begin to fly straighter and start to fade less and I enjoy throwing it in the woods. I love the feel of the Tour Series plastic for putting and Champion plastic for throwing. The Aviar is a great disc for all levels of play and was my first disc as a beginner.

The aviar is considered the father of putters for a good reason.  It allows a lot of skill expression as its not too overstable to handle different lines.  I owned an aviar in both dx and champion plastic which made for a good throwing and puttting putter duo when I first started.  I have since moved on to some other putters, but definitely recommend these as starter discs and beyond for those who like a "do what you made it do" style putter.  The reason I switched from the mold was due to the roundness of the top and rim.  It made it hard for my large hands to throw them outside of a fan grip.  Just a bit too deep and round for my liking, but still a great putter.

This disc is what I use for putting. I would not recommend for approaching because it glides too much. For a good approach disc a zone would be a better choice. This disc is very uncomfortable for sidearm.. It is comfortable for putting though.

Putters are where the beginner needs to start, but they should definitely start with the Aviar.  I just love the feel in my hands, I have three so I can practice with a lot at a time.  the 172+ are the best for me because they feel sturdier and wont bounce off the chains so easily.

I love my champion aviar 175g for putts, and approach shots. I can throw this disc hard and flat, and it goes straight and actually finishes left. The champion plastic is also very durable. It is very torque resistant. This disc is also the first disc I ever got.

    Review for a champion aviar:

I love my champion aviar! It is such a great driving putter. The champion plastic is durable. The flight characteristics have not changed at all. It is still, after a good bit of use, my straight to over stable champion aviar. Let's start with feel: This is a TALL disc. We're talking nova tall. I have compared my champion aviar to my dx aviars and the difference is night and day. If they didn't have stamps, I wouldn't think it was the same mold. However, one thing that stays the same between aviars is the lack of a bead. My champion aviar is smooth which makes it feel great for driving. The champion plastic is durable and feels good in my hand.

The reason I say this disc is beginner friendly is because it flies straight and true. It holds a nice line and fights wind well. You can putt and drive with it since it is a great all around disc.

Speed: I think this disc's speed rating is correct. It is easy to throw.

Glide: This disc does not glide much but I will still say it is a 3 glide.

Turn: No turn is correct. You have to put some serious power to flip this disc.

Fade: The aviar holds straight with a gentle fade. I think the fade is correct.

I recently picked up a very flat-top Champion Aviar and am looking at it as a possible replacement for my Rhyno as an up-shot / heavy wind putter. It still has more glide than my Rhyno, but just barely, and the more reliable lack of turn and fade makes pinpoint shot placement very easy.

In general, I love the Aviar mold and variants of it. I have a DX Aviar I use for inside the circle as it just always finds the basket for me, my Champion Aviar I am starting to use as my wind putter, and a Nova which is basically an Aviar with a soft overmold.

You can find an Aviar to meet any need you have, and the reliability of this disc is second to none.

This review is based on driving and approaching with the champion aviar, as opposed to putting. the first thing youll notice is that this disc has an extremely comfortable feel to it, and is easy to throw flat. I think this is a great disc to give to someone to learn, as it will fly consistently no matte how many trees are hit, and will teach proper form. This disc doesnt respond to off axis torque very well, so if you try and rip a drive with it without great form it will turn over. Despite that this is still a great disc, which flies true to its listed flight numbers, maybe a tick more stable, and can easily be dialed in for great accuracy. The only drawback in this discs performance would be that it does not want to fly in a headwind. If you are presented with a headwind and want to throw this disc more than 175 feet, dont, just dis up to a mid or something because this disc will flip over even with good form.

All in all this disc is great for beginners and can be used by everyone to dial in their approach game and fix form issues with driving.

Rating a putter is tough because putts are mental and like in ball golf, putters are whatever makes you comfortable.

As an approach disc, I did not like my champion aviar with the exception of when I used it for tunnel shots. I did not like it at all as a putter and my game improved significantly when I switched from my champion aviar to my dx aviar in the same weight. I would rate the champ aviar a 2, but the dx is a 4, so I'll go with that since I don't see that many people actually putting with such a hard and gripless plastic.

The disc flies pretty well and is easy for new players to throw, just like the shark that comes with it in the beginner 3 pack. It's nice, but my personal preference has shifted to a 2015 ace race Roach. There's not much difference. If I was going to stick with aviar, I'd get it in a grippier plastic such as DX, Star, or Gstar, but I'd steer clear of the champion model.

Just got my Champion Aviar from Infinite Discs.  Immediate improvement to my putting game to the tune of 1 or 2 strokes per 18 holes. Sinking that 25-30 footer that I used to miss high or low.  So stable and predictable.  Use it all the time inside 100 feet.

The Aviar that I have has a deep rim and does not work well for me as a putter. I recently learned that I can grip the rim and use this disc as a driving disc. I still prefer the judge for my putter but I can use the Aviar for long straight shots. I am glad that I have found a use for this disc.

This putter is good but not one that I recommend if you have small fingers. I do have an Aviar but it is not currently in my bag because the rim is really deep and this makes it awkward for me to throw. I prefer the Dynamic Disc Judge for putting.

I used this disc a lot.  It did get replaced by a new MVP putter, but mainly because of the age and being beat up from hitting the chains for so long.  Nice and straight as shown.  The biggest key to a putter is that you like the feel and are confident with it.

My first putter, I will always be fond of the Aviar.  I have one in dx and champion plastics, and I prefer the champion. This disc is great for every type of shot. It is great for upshots, drives, and putts. I would suggest this putter to any player and definitely to beginners. This disc is very popular and has an almost legendary status among putters for a reason. There are several variants on this disc that you can buy, beads, more fade, etc. If you know what you like, go ahead and buy!

This is a new review in addition to my previous one below, because in this one I want to focus on the Champion plastic Aviar P&A.  I acquired a 168g in the Jolly Launcher Champion plastic from Infinite Discs, with great service as usual from Infinite.

I didn't have especially high expectations, but my goodness! did this disc exceed them!  The putter was more stiff/firm than I'd expected it to be, which was good.  But where I was shocked was the way this disc kept finding the basket.  I'd been having trouble with putts from about 23 feet to 35 feet with my Nova and Star plastic Aviars, but I was sinking long putts in that range like never before with the Champ. Aviar.  It wasn't a one-day fluke, either;  I took it out again two days later, and again it was finding the chains from longer range.  My Nova of the same weight was sliding off the chains and being spit out;  the Champ. Aviar was grabbing them like Tarzan swinging through the jungle.

As Champion plastic tends to be, this Aviar was a bit more overstable on longer range approach shots, but it still performed well.  All in all, I received a surprising but very good lesson about expectations, and I'm glad I did.  I'll be using the Champ. Aviar a lot more.

I have putted with both the DX and Champion versions of the Aviar. I like them best for spin putting, as I prefer a Judge or McPro for push putting. If you are just starting out, this is a perfect putter to get the hang of things. It is a very consistent disc for more experienced players too.

The McPro Aviar is almost the perfect putter for push putts. I go back to my McPro often and it putts very well inside the circle. Longer up shots are decent as well. I prefer the Judge as the McPro plastic is just a little to slippery in certain weather conditions.

The KC Pro is very similar to the McPro, maybe a touch more overstable. Don't get a white one - the plastic is too slippery unless you mix in some dye.

I really love my Champion Aviar. In the summer the champion plastic is amazing grip wise. It isn't stiff like the mids and drivers so it feels great in the hand and release. I like beadless putters and the Aviar is on top in that genre of putters.
