With a slightly softer feel and lower cost than premium plastics, the Innova DX Aviar is widely trusted for putting, short approaches, and even straight tunnel shots. As it wears in, it gains glide and versatility, making it easy to cycle for different shot shapes.

Good consistent flight but it feels deeper than I like in a putter for my game. I prefer a slightly more shallow putter to keep my release more consistent.

The (not glow) DX Aviars I have feel very slick, with little grip. But it seems like a nice putter with good glide. I'll have to try other plastic blends.

My go-to beadless putter. This putter has a spot in the bag for any experience level. Predictable and stable flight path for throw putting, also a great option for spin or push putting. DX plastic is the move for this putter, seems to have the best feel and grip.

The quintissential beadless putter. I putt with beaded putters so it doesn't feel right to me, but for any new player this disc should feel similar enough to a catch disc that they can work with it, and it remains the putter of choice for many top players. Skip the fancy plastic with these and just get DX.

For Context I bag 2 175g DX Aviars as my putting putters, I never use these as throwing putters. My putting style is primarily spin putting, and I don't putt super hard as I like the disc to float into the basket.

Every time I think the aviar is a bad putter I try out a different putter and realize its me, not the disc thats the problem. I have tried a lot of different putters and I keep coming back to the Aviar. They feet great in the hand, and hold the line even for putts. I feel pretty comfortable putting flat, on hyzer, or anhyzer with these discs. Lots of glide, even with shorter putts, so if you are looking for a putter that sits down I would find a different one. The DX plastic does get a lot of dings and dents, but I have been using this same putting putter for about 1 year and its still got a lot of life left. Another note on DX: they have a great feet, (not too gummy or stiff) that in my opinion makes for a great putter. They like to catch, but likely won't stick on your hand.

I typically jump putt outside of 60 feet with a different disc, like an envy or a pig, so really just use these discs within circle 2.

As others have said, many other putters are based off these molds, they are the OG, and you don't need to be super unique and find some niche putter. Just go with Aviar.

I'm still using the same dx aviar 171g that i got in a starter pack ever since first starting out playing. I'm so used to this putter that others just dont feel right in the hand. I'll continue trying other putters just for the fun of it but will probably keep coming back to this one.

Summary: A fantastic putter that can grow with you.

Feel: The DX plastic is what it is, it's baseline and nothing more. It's not durable, and just a touch slick, but that's just for the starter set or if that's the plastic that you want. It's a little too deep for a throwing putter in my opinion, but that depth is also very good in getting a good putting grip on it.

Flight: It flys great within the circle and a bit beyond that, the stability allows for many angles that keep it useful all over the course. Even in the lighter weight plastic from the starter set, it is exactly what it says it is. Flys how it says and does exactly what you make it do.

The Aviar is the standard by which other 2301 discs are measured against. And for good reason. I got this in a starter set like many others, and used it for a long time. I've gone through a handful of putters over my time, but always loving the ones that are clearly modeled after the Aviar. I don't love the DX plastic, but the shape is very comfortable.

Fr throwing, I find it to be very neutral. Once beat in it flips up and doesn't fade. Would recommend to beginners or anyone who likes this shape putter.

Got this in a starter set and it flew very well for me from the outset -- possibly because it was most similar to the Frisbees I was use to for decades. I used it almost as often on long throws as for putts. It served both purposes quite well (though, of course, it didn't yield the distance of higher speed discs). This was my sole putter for the first 3-4 seasons playing, and was actually shared with others in my family. All-around a solid putter, and good for straight, long throws, though the DX plastic was starting to take a beating, making it rougher in the hand and on release, and a bit understable. (Unfortunately on one of those long throws to a very narrow green between two ponds, it veered slightly right just enough that it ended up in the reeds and I couldn't find it. To replace my putter, I ended up grabbing a good deal on a 10-putter set from this site rather than get just a single, new Aviar.)

This disc is a fan favorite but it's not my putter of choice. I prefer glidey putters and the Aviar just doesn't have the glide I need to reach the chains.

On the plus side it is cheap and always in stock which makes it easier to buy duplicates for practice putting.

Ahhh the one and only trusty OG putter in the game, the Aviar! There is absolutely no better putter ever made which the majority of players that have been in the game for a long time would definitely agree. If you are new to the sport and have zero experience other than throwing a frisbee around with your friends then this disc is definitely for you and is a great introduction to the sport. The aviar in DX plastic, especially if you get a light weight one, is extremely similar to a frisbee. Its just a lot smaller and has way more stability than your average frisbee. It is very stable so once you learn to develop some power and a clean flat release expect the disc to travel a little to the right if you are throwing right hand back hand. Now if you get this disc in a more premium plastic like Star, It is amazingly predictable and is what I recommend to really dial in your putts. It can definitely be used for approach as well although I wouldn't recommend using this putter for a go to approach workhorse compared to lets say a dart. Lastly the version I trust and use strictly for putting only is the KC Pro plastic version. It is tacky with a good amount of firmness that you can trust every time to ride that same line all the way in to the center of the basket.

My first putter.  I got this in an Innova starter pack.  It is currently my go to putter/short approach disc.  Flies true and straight.  Can be a bit floaty at times, but still a great disc.  Hight recommended as a first putter for anyone starting out.

My first DX Aviar came in the Innova starter pack. It's a great putt and approach disc. I first used it only as a putter, but is now used as an approach disc or longer putt that needs to glide more since it is lighter. I have since added a heavier aviar as a putter only disc since the beginner disc was feeling too light. Also, the aviar is a great disc to practice throwing straight and doesn't need as much room to practice with as a driver.

    My favorite putting putter

I have a 166g DX Aviar and it is the straightest putter I have and feels great in my hand.

I love that there is little to no fade even at slower speeds, meaning that I can use it for short putts, long putts, even short approaches.

Doesn't really work for me for longer approaches or drives, because it has a lot of drag and thus requires me to throw harder and higher than I want.

What's left to say about the Aviar P&A? It's a great flying, neutral disc that works well off the tee and for putting. It's age definitely shows with a more old school feel (which I love), but you can't get much better for a controlled putter. Plus I really like the feel of DX plastic, especially as it beats in a little bit.

What can I say about the avair? It is the staple in every disc golfers bag. No matter if you are a beginner or a pro, you still have to have the aviar. The avair is a great putting disc and I use my beat-in one quite a lot. For a beginner it is a great disc to start off throwing. It is easy and has nice glide. As time goes on, the aviar stays the same age, shining on every disc golfer!

Dx plastic. Like just about everyone else, this was one of my first discs. I wrote it off because it was "just a putter." As it is so many people's first disc, it can be easily written off as basic and boring. I find it to be consistent, reliable, and stable. Thin flight plate and soft plastic will let it fly effortlessly. Flight numbers are true, handles torque well but less so as it beats in.

I get very little wobble when spin putting. I have a couple other putters that I've been playing around with, but have used this one the longest and keep going back to it. As the plastic gets older and beaten it, the plastic will get a tackier grip. DX plastic has decent grip to begin with, so if you want something smoother, get a classic.

I think of this putter a lot like a tube screamer guitar pedal. There's a reason that just about every company has a clone of it. Probably the best thing about this disc is that just about everywhere will have it and it is less expensive than most others. You can get a decent stack for the cost of three of a different brand.

There's a reason this is one of the most popular putters in the world. Feels great in the hand as a beadless putter and holds true to whatever line you put it on. I've heard some people say it isn't much of a throwing putter but I'd have to disagree. It's a straight flier if not a tad understable and flourishes for straight/tunnel shots and even turnovers as it beats in a little bit. Don't think this one is coming out of my bag for a long time.

    DX Aviar

Got this with my starter pack when I had no idea what I was doing. Hated the feel so much I ditched it and putted with my leopard from the same pack. Tried it about a month later and still couldn't stand it.

Fast forward a year. I have cycled through about 12 putters trying to find "the one." I have come all the way back to where I began and feel better with it than the others. It is a solid putting putter as long as it fits your hand and you like the feel. Moral of the story, for all beginners experimenting with putters, you will need to learn a proper putting form before you can accurately assess the disc. I don't throw with it so I can't comment on that, but it is a solid putter for putting and certainly worth using while you figure out how to actually putt instead of just moving it through the air in the general direction of the basket to see what happens.

In this video I thoroughly review the Aviar, by Innova Discs. This is a very straight-flying putter that is best used as a putting putter, or short range throwing. It's Innova's most popular putter, and a brand that has spawned several different molds using the same name, and sparked numerous disc golf companies to create similar putters over the decades.

A 144 gram Aviar was the first putter I ever used, and I still use it to this day as long as the wind cooperates.  It glides straight for a long ways but dies as soon as it hits the ground, which is my ideal for a putter.

This disc is a must have for any player of any level. It is a very reliable putter. it has enough glide to give yourself a chance at long putts, but also sits well when you miss. At the end of the day, it pretty much goes where you tell it to, and to me, that is the reliability I want in a putter.

This was the first putter I ever used. It flies really well and is great for those close putts that you really need to make. The only issue is I did not get mine very heavy so the wind likes to move it pretty easily. Once you hit this against a tree or two the disc becomes super flippy due to the DX plastic. If you're looking for something that can be thrown off the tee more definitely get it in Champion, it will last longer and fly a little better IMO. The DX plastic isn't terrible though, it feels nice in your hand and catches the chains pretty well. All in all a very good disc that everyone should have.

This is a relatively straight flying putter that I like to use for putting and approach shots. The DX Aviar will morph a bit over time, but its flight is still pretty consistent. My putting is not great to be honest, but it's due to no fault of the disc. Some fade at the end of its path if you're throwing a bigger shot, nice beginner friendly disc for not only putting, but also hyzers and anhyzers.

I got my DX Aviar in the Innova Starter Pack and it became a go-to putter for me for a while until I switched to a Yeti Aviar. I love the feel of DX plastic, and while it isn’t the most durable, I still felt that it held up decently well while I putted with it exclusively. After I switched putters, I used it for throwing, and I think that this would be an amazing throwing putter if it were more durable. As it was, I used it for only a short time with good results but eventually had to retire it because it became too flippy. If you’re looking for a good putter without a bead, this is a good one to start with!

A great putter that continues to be a staple in the disc golf world.  It has a feel that instills confidence and just fits my hand.  I have used several different putters over the years, but I always carry at least one Aviar in my bag.  This workhorse performs from the tee to the basket and is one of the best options for single disc rounds.  Over the years, I have used multiple Aviars in different plastics.

DX - Very grippy and performs well as a putter in all weather conditions.  Wears quickly if you are using this off the tee, but that isn't as issue if you are primarily using it as a putter and approach disc.

Champion - Can be kind of slick and the grip isn't as good as other plastics.  I found this plastic to excel off the tee and has the durability to hold up for a long time.  I like this one off the tee and as an approach disc, but not as much for a putter because of the grip.

GStar - The grip holds up in all weather conditions, readily grabs the chains, and is little flippy once it breaks in so I don't get the "tournament rolls" on missed putts.  This is my personal favorite plastic for a putting Aviar because of the grip.

Star - Provides the best all around performance from the tee to the basket.  In comparison to GStar, its better off the tee but the grip isn't as good for putting.  This is the workhorse plastic for a workhorse disc.  My Star Aviar is the one I grab for single disc rounds.

The Aviar is my favorite putter.  I started with an Innova Starter Set, which came with a 150 gram DX Aviar.  I loved the feel of the mold and the plastic.  As I got better, I realized the disc (all three really) was too light.  I now have two 175 gram DX Aviars.

The Aviar has a great feel in the hand.  I do not like beaded putters, so the smooth moderately deep mold fits me well.  It is a very straight flying disc.  When used for longer approach shots there is a little fade.  When putting inside the circle it is just point and shoot.

The Aviar is a great disc for beginners learning to throw. I have an Aviar in DX plastic that feels pretty effortless to send it on a dead straight flight down the fairway with just a tiny bit of fade at the end. I often use this disc for upshots (straight, hyzer, anhyzer) it can hold all of the lines.

I have not used the Aviar as a putting putter mostly because it has been so useful for shorter drives and upshots, but its straight flight from close range would certainly serve well for catching the changes.

Great disc that has more value than just a starter pack disc!

This is the best putter in the world. The Aviar has a very comfortable feel and grip in the hand for both putting and driving. I own the Aviar in multiple different plastics and they are all great in their own ways. The Aviar in DX plastic is my personal favorite for putting. The DX plastic is grippy but not too grippy and lasts a long time when used just for putting. The Aviar will fly on angle angle that you release it on which makes it a great driving putter. This is about as close to a point and shoot putter/disc as it gets. If you are looking for an approach disc that you can trust will follow through straight, here you go. If you are looking for a putter than requires no tricks, no gimmicks, and no angles, here you go. There is a reason many pros and beginners enjoy using this disc. The trust is there and the rim fits comfortable in your hand no matter what plastic you choose. I have had this disc in dx, kc, and star plastics and I have enjoyed all of them. They beat in very nicely and continue to keep my trust. This was the first putter I ever used and I still find myself looking to grab them now. I believe all beginners should use this putt and approach disc to help their game grow tremendously. Very easy to get the hang of and it will help you to perfect your form.

Admittedly still new to disc golf (only been playing for a couple of months). When i first started out i was told by a friend to go with two starter packs - one from Innova that comes with the Aviar, Shark, and Leopard, and one from Dynamic Discs with the Judge, Truth, Maverick, Escape, and Trespass. The feedback i got was you'll either like the Judge or the Aviar, but people rarely like both. As of now it turns out i'm definitely a judge person - i still cannot throw the aviar anywhere near the level i can the judge - realizing it's from form more than likely in the beginning but as my form is improving i'm still not able to get comfortable with it. After a ton of practicing now I can consistently throw the Judges 170+ with a slight left fade at the end, as well as use them for putting and my mid-ranges are getting up to the 250 ish range. I have a lot more improving to do and I will revisit the Aviar as I go along as I have a hard time believing it's the top ranked putter and wouldn't be worth doing so, but definitely not as a beginner when the judge is sitting there readily available and easy to use.

I had a Lightning rubber putter than picked up an aviar within my first year of playing. I then wombo comboed it up with a pig but dropped the aviar and now have a viking discs knife (a bit thinner)

Disc - 152 Innova DX Aviar

Feel - The aviar feels great in the hand if you like headless putters. It is not too deep nor too shallow and fits in most players hands well for both putting and throwing. DX plastic is not very durable but great for beginners or for putters because it is inexpensive and has great grip.

Flight - The Aviar is one of the straightest putters out there. It has hardly any fade when putted or thrown and does not turn much either until it beats in. It will go very straight on push or spin putts and will hold any line it is thrown on.

Overall - I got this disc in a starter set almost a year ago and so I don't use it any more due to its lighter weight but I am looking into getting another aviar at max weight to try it out. I think the aviar is a great putter for players of all skill levels that enjoy beadless putters.

Disc: 175g DX Putt & Approach Aviar

The DX Aviar is a good putting and throwing disc for beginners, as it will help teach good mechanics and reward clean releases. I find the DX plastic to be a great option for a putter, since it's cheap and provides good grip in all conditions (cold, heat, wet, dry).

It's a very neutral flying disc at low to medium speeds (under 250 feet), making it great for straight tunnel shots or controlled anhyzers. Being a neutral-flying putter, it's not going to be reliable in strong headwinds or crosswinds.

The aviar is a very versatile putter that is so popular for a couple reasons.  Of course one of those reasons is how long it's been around as a staple in innova's putter lineup, but the other reason is how usable it is.  For putting, it's the perfect beadless putter.  Not too flat, not too domey.  A nice straight flight for inside the circle putting, and can have a slight fade when moving to circle 2.

For throwing, the aviar can be used for any shot reliably depending on what angle and power is used.  It can ride a soft hyzer, make a long turnover, hyzer flip and turn slightly, etc.  A great disc from which anyone can derive use.

What more is there to say that hasn't already been said... The Aviar is a fantastic putter for beginners all the way up to advanced players. It's got a really good feel for putting, which arguably is the most important part of the game. It's a lot easier to consistently putt from 20 feet out than it is to park a drive or approach every time. There is a reason why it is a staple in Innova starter packs, though I wouldn't recommend anything less than max weight. I have only owned DX Aviars, which are great (and feel great) for putting, but not ideal for approach shots because they aren't the most comfortable in the hand and I don't want to beat in my putters so fast. That being said, I have tried out a friend's champion plastic Aviar a lot, and it flies exactly how I expected. Thrown softly, it has a straight flight with a nice gentle finish, almost dropping straight down. If thrown hard, it can be very glidey and hyzer flip or hold a turn depending on the angle of the release.

    Innova Starter Pack DX Aviar

I got this disc through the Innova DX Starter pack when I first started playing. The starter pack aviar is a little too lightweight to be useful but a regular weight aviar would be great. I love the shape of this disc, it's very comfortable as it's not flat topped and has a little dome which really just fits perfectly into my hand. My only complaint is that I wish it was a little deeper, it's just somewhat shallow for a putter which makes it good for throwing but not quite as comfortable for putting. Still, this is a popular putter for a reason and I would recommend it.

The Putt and Approach Aviar is without a doubt my favorite disc of all time. I carry 4 Aviars PAs in my bag at all time. Two XT for putting exclusively, one worked DX for turnovers and outside the circle putts, and a champion for approaches and straight shots of the tee.

Every player of every skill level will find success with the Aviar. Beginner could play an entire round with just a DX Aviar and learn how to properly control their shots. More experienced players will find many uses for this disc putting, flip to flat, big anhyzers, straight drives, and more.

I have two Aviars, one in DX and one in KC Pro.  I tend to putt more with the DX and throw drives and approaches more with the KC Pro, though both discs are great for all three types of shots.  Neither disc really has much turn to it unless I throw it into a headwind, but they'll gladly hold a hyzer or anhyzer if they start out on that angle.  Released flat, an Aviar will fly super straight with just a tiny bit of fade at the very end of the flight, with the KC Pro having just a touch more fade than the DX.  Where putting is concerned, I haven't had the fade really affect my putts, unless I completely miss the basket.  When they do land, they tend to stick pretty well, without skipping much.  There are a lot of putters out there that are very similar to the Aviar, but it's hard to go wrong with the original.

I have the Aviar in both DX and XT plastic (DX for putting, XT for throwing/approaches).

This is THE archetypal putter in my opinion. Very straight with good stability for throwing (and a touch of fade at the end), and a straight, super predictable putting line within about 30 feet. Aviars are not as quite as deep as many 4 glide putters out there, which makes them comfortable in the hand for clean releases. Outside of 30 feet, you can expect the stability to kick in a tad.

As a comparison to its closest "rival", the P2, I find the aviar a tad shorter and the P2 to have a slightly more "blunt" edge. If you want a slightly shallower and lower profile P2, this is it.

I love my Aviars and their variants. The mold feels great in the hands, the disc does exactly what you want it to, and there are so many versions available, you can always get the exact specifications you want.

The disc is very beginner friendly as it doesn't take a lot of effort to get the disc to fly, it stays mostly on the line you set it on, and it has the closest feel to an actual Frisbee that so many people are use to. This is a great disc for anyone converting do disc-golf from that sport.

I like the DX plastic once it gets heavily used. The flight characteristics do change a little bit, but not drastically so at short range. The disc also takes on a very soft feel eventually, sort of like a hard rubber mold (think Discraft soft plastic, but slightly more firm). This makes some of the "gimmie" shots even better as the disc just dies when it hits chains.

I am even experimenting with a very flat-top Champion Aviar as a replacement for my Rhyno. This disc just does it all.

The aviar putter was the first putter that I had ever put in my hand. I really do enjoy this disc due to the stiffness and the flight path of it. I highly recommend young starters who are wanting to get into disc golf to try this putter out and see if it's there kind of style. I putt using a spin putt technique and this discs flys straight and true wherever I let go of it. When throwing it off the tee you can put a little hizzer or anhizzer and this disc and it will hold that line until it hits the ground. It's a very study disc that can definitely take a beating and take a long time to change the flight of. When I first started I would go in my front yard and practice putting at trees or poles or anything that I could reach by throwing. It took lots of dings and chunks out of the disc after awhile but it still stayed true and preformed the way it did when I bought it new. It's a great putter to start off with and see if you are going to get into the sport of disc golf.

DX Aviar (175g) - What can I say about the Aviar that hasn't already been said? This is one of the classic discs of the sport. I got my first one sometime back in 2006 and took it out of the closet again in 2017 when I started playing more seriously. It is THE classic putter and always has been which is why they recommended it back in 2006 and why they still recommend it today. However, despite its longevity in the sport, it is not a disc that I prefer compared to other putters out there. I found it less comfortable to throw and putt with than other discs, specifically the XT Nova which is somewhat similar in shape and flight but stiffer and grippier in the overmold design. I recommend the Aviar (and Nova) to any new players and I keep a couple of Aviars to take to the course when I play with friends who are new to disc golf. I would also suggest that everyone tries one of the these Aviars to get a reference point for other putt and approach discs since the flight numbers are perfectly accurate and the DX plastic can give you a feel for whether you like grippy, stiff, soft, smooth, concave, convex molds, etc. Definitely check one out and go from there if you want a better throwing putter, gliding putter, headwind putter, etc.

This is a point and shoot type disc. very controllable. probably one of the most versatile discs I've ever used. Not good for headwinds though. they beat in real slow despite being DX. I've tacoed these over and over only to have them turn very nicely and predictably without turning into rollers (though that will eventually happen). When beat in, these are very nice for short shots that require hyzer flip lines but you don't want to push too long.

The old Innova classic and for good reason. I have made the journey like most disc golfers and tried several different putters hoping to find the "magic" one. Bead, no bead, firm, soft; you name it and I've probably tried it. Regardless I keep coming back to the DX Aviar. This disc isn't special in any one area but it's consistent. Throw it just slightly right of the pole and that's it. Sure, this disc hates a headwind and the DX will beat in quickly but if you know that going in then it's not an issue. At the price point I can stock up for practice and keep fresh ones in the bag for rounds. I don't recommend DX for driving but inside the circle I can depend on them just about every putt. Just pair them with an overstable putter for windy days and you're good to go.

I got a 144 gram DX Aviar when I first started disc golf.  It might be just the DX plastic or the super light weight, but this thing turns over even when I putt it.  I can never release it at the right time.  I think the Aviar had a couple things wrong with it.  All of these were fixed in the KC Pro Aviar.  The lightweight DX on this disc is so hard to grip.  The bead on the KC Pro Aviar fixed that.  I would recommend you get a KC pro aviar over this.

There's a reason this disc is in the starter pack. I have been playing for years and after years of a love and hate relationship; I settled on the DX Aviar as my main putter. Inside the circle, up to 90 feet now and getting very close to spinning 100 feet on putts. It is one of the cheapest and easiest putters to come by which was another reason I wanted to make it my main putter. It is also a very honest disc with no room for error. It is very formed telling. Whether you want to work on form on drives or putting you can practice with the DX Aviar. If you are starting out, get to know this disc!! It will teach you angles, and it will help your form to learn to throw this disc well.  There is not enough to be said about it. It's a classic.

Great starter putter, and an absolute must-have for approach shots at a more experienced level. I really started taking advantage of the Aviar when I became more experienced and could get the "flick/whip" down. When throwing for 200-250ft, the Aviar flies very straight, floats slowly, and lands very softly.

This is it! The Aviar! If you don't already have an Aviar...that's kind of wierd. This is the most straightforward putter in the world, possibly the most straightforward disc in disc golf. It goes straight, but it doesn't go very far. Many variations and copycats exist, some of which may be more suited for individual needs, but it doesn't take away the utility of this classic disc.

The Aviar was my first ever putter. All I knew about it when I got it was that it was the number one putter in the world, and I thought, "How can I get better than that?" As I was learning disc golf, I tried some others and never came back to the Aviar, but it did serve its purpose. I feel like everyone should try an Aviar at some point because it is very balanced, and at the very least, a good reference for if you want something more or less stable while giving the possibility to be your main putter.

I will always feel a debt to the Aviar, it was my first putter and the disc that taught me to hyzerflip. I got two of these guys to complete my Innova Only theme bag that I made in 2018. The were both orange DX like my first one, but with a cool tournament stamp. Overall, I like them for throwing actually. The smooth beadless lip comes out smooth and you can hit a small area with them from 250 and in since they don't move or skip much when they hit the ground.

Still, it's not my favorite style of putter, it feels big in the hand to me, but by the stats I didn't do much worse than my usual putters over the 8 or so rounds. It's a really good disc, and has aged very well. If your a new player there are about 80 discs that do this job well, but this was the first one to do it very well. I like some discs better, but it's still a classic that holds up.

This is an amazing putter. I agree with others that it gets looked over due to it being in the starter pack, but its there for a reason. It's a great putter and also awesome on upshots and short drives. This was the first putter I got and beat it in and although I use a classic soft warden now, I still practice with this when I do my putting routine with all of my putters. This disc one beat in will have some turn if you power it up on a drive but still comes back after it slows down and starts to kick out of the turn. Mine is a max weight Dx, when I throw it as a drive with a fan grip I get some turn out of it once it flips up and still fades back right where I was aimed at. I would not recommend a power grip on this but to fan grip it if your driving with it.  I really can't say enough good about this putter.

The Aviar Putt and Approach is an absolute legend. It often gets overlooked because it's seen as just "the putter included with the Innova starter pack." That may be true, but its a workhorse nonetheless and a very dependable disc. It has enough stability to face moderate headwind putts, loves to be thrown on dead straight drives with a tick of fade at the end (and then a tick of turnover when it gets beat in), and will hold an approach shot on any line you give it. The Aviar PnA may not be the latest, greatest, coolest, or sexiest disc on the market, but it is one of the most versatile and dependable.

There's nothing wrong with an Aviar, no matter what your skill level is. You can throw them or putt with them. This particular review is of the beadless P&A Aviar mold in DX plastic, which is probably the most common Aviar out there nowadays. The beadless Aviar has a pretty distinctive flight because it's fairly straight at both high speeds and low speeds, which makes it great for all skill levels. I honestly can't complain about the flight of this disc at all, though it's obviously not going to give you any amazing distance drives. You're going to earn every foot of distance you get with an Aviar.

My only gripe with this disc is the grip and feel in the hand. The beadless Aviars have very little texture on the outside, which combined with the thin rim of a putter makes it difficult to hold onto them. I assume that almost everyone throws their putters with a fan grip because otherwise you will get your fingers stuck under the rim, and with a fan grip you basically have to squeeze the Aviar really hard with the muscle at the base of your thumb to make up for the fact that you're not going to get as much grip out of your fingers on the outside of the disc. If you're good at this then you can get some very good throws and putts out of the Aviar. I ultimately chose a different putter because I was getting some bad releases with the Aviar, especially when trying to put a little more power into the disc. It's definitely not a bad disc, but it just didn't work with my hand because I had difficulty holding onto it properly. I prefer my putters to have a bead, but I know that there are a lot of people who hate beads so if that's you then look into this disc for sure.

I only played one disc rounds until i found this and after it changed how well i was able to put it gave me the confidence to try more than one disc and try lots of different shots this is a great putter for anyone to use it flies straight with a slight fade at the end every time

    175 g White DX Aviar

I want to love the Aviar. I, like everyone else, have gone through countless molds in search of that mythical perfect putter. I think this could be the one for me. In my time with it, I have noticed that for me it is not a good thrower. I have an S-Line P2 that I use for my up shots that I like infinitely more. Even a slightly worn in DX Aviar seems to be too understable for me. A far as a putter goes, I really like it. It fits in the hand very comfortably and is predictable. I am currently also trying a McPro Aviar, but it seems a little slick for my taste.

DX in the 170s. A lot of people like this disc, but I'm not a fan. In fact I would give it negative stars if I could as it is my least favorite disc that I have ever owned. I have one in star and a DX one that was given to me by a friend. I, like many people, fell into the trap of "this is the most popular putter in the world" so it has to work right? Wrong. First off, the wizard and judge are more popular (and better) now. Secondly, this is the most inconsistent disc that I have ever thrown and the rim is super uncomfortable. I hate it for driving, approach shots, and, most of all, putting. Sometimes it goes right, sometimes left, sometimes straight, but never the same. I once heard the Aviar described as a drunk person: "it never knows where it's going, but it sure as heck isn't staying where it is", and I would have to agree. Also, the dx plastic beats in really fast and warps. This isn't innova hate either as I putt with Colt's and love them. Overall, after trying tons of different putters and always having a wandering eye for discs, there are lots of better options to choose from (With the Colt having cured my insatiable drive to buy more putters). One disc I know I'll never come back to is the Aviar.

The Aviar is one of my favorite discs. I have a 175g DX love the feel and grip of it and I have a 172g Champion.  When driving off the tee with these I find a bit more glide with the DX Aviar.  I  can drive the Aviar out to about 225 feet more than that they get a bit to flippy on me. They make super great putters and just feel nice not to deep not to shallow of a grip.  Can't go wrong with a Aviar would recommend it to anyone.

For a good ole reliable putter, you cant really go wrong with the Aviar. It is a popular disc for a reason and it does its job wonderfuly. I got this disc originally as just a putter but have been enjoying it more and more as an approach disc as well. Would highly recommend this disc to any and all players.

I got my Innova Aviar DX (150g) as part of a disc golf starter set for beginners from my local Meijer grocery store just about a year ago.  This putter served me decently when I was a straight-up noob without much disc golf experience, but the more I began to throw and the better my form got, the more I saw this disc wasn’t the best fit for my game.

Now, all that being said, I know now that my particular disc was very light (150g) and was just way too flippy and affected by the wind, especially when I started to throw heavier putters.  I have not had any other experience with Aviars of different weights and/or plastics.  The other models may well be very good discs, but I can only speak for my starter set Aviar DX.  I still keep it in my trunk as a loner disc for when I take a friend out to play who needs a disc :)

I freakin love this putter. Flies sooo straight.

I own a DX 170 gram disc. I have only been able to compare this putter to the Rhyno but if I had the choice between the two for putting, I would choose Aviar hands down. The only reason I would choose the Rhyno over the Aviar is because the Rhyno has some fade, so if I have a long distance putt or approach and need fade on it, I would obviously select the Rhyno, but for average putting within 50', I would select the Aviar.

Great disc. One of me favorites.

Good putter to start with, although I find it to be a little off at times as I would like a heavier putting disc.  It has good grip and is good to begin with, but maybe not end with.

Absolutely a must have putter. Great feel and flight for making that putt count. Many different Aviars have been made with different beads, stiffness, molds, etc. Know if you like big bead (BB) small bead or no bead before ordering online. Be sure to order one once you know…. you will never use anything else.

Who hasn't thrown a Aviar at some point during their disc golf career. Whether it was from the Innova 3-disc starter pack, or after watching so many pros use the KC Aviar, pick one up to be just like them.

You can get your Aviar in so many flavors. So many molds have anything from subtile differneces, to major differences.

I prefer a softer putter for my putting putter, but I use my DX Aviar as my throwing putter. If I choose to throw it off the tee, it's going dead straight, or at least fly at whichever angle I released it on. I have thrown my putter at full power, and I haven't been able to flip it up, or completely turn it over. Again, it flies on the line I release it on. Whether it's dead straight, a long hyzer, or a soft anhyzer that will just begin to straighten up at the end of its flight. I really enjoy my DX Aviar, and I am sure you will too. I will putt with this disc if I am outside the circle and I need to put a little more power behind my putt. I know this putter will handle the increased power and not absorb any from flexing with a soft putter.

I also picked up some swirly McPro Aviars. I personally don't like them as my putting putter, but I will use them for off the tee drives and upshots as well.

Yes, the Aviar. In my opinion it is one of the best discs in disc golf. The DX Aviar is the epitome of the most basic disc golf shot. It contains the most basic flight characteristics and can teach any newcomer to the sport how to throw a disc with basic technique. Beginners to professionals alike still use a DX Aviar as their go-to putter, so it is safe to say this is a great option as a first putter, and can fit into the bag of any skill level of player.

I like the Aviar as a warm up disc for throw and catch. I also keep DX Aviars in my pile of practice putters. I putt with a P2, so an Aviar is basically like a broken in P2 so it fits in nicely with my practice putters. I also practice at 4400 elevation, so the DX Aviar will fly very similar here to how my P2 will fly at sea level, so it is great for practice if I have an upcoming tournament at sea level.

If I don't know what disc to suggest to a player, the Aviar is my go-to. It is the most dependable putter of the classic molds, and can teach anyone how to play.

The dx aviar is not a bad disc but if you don't get a good snap out of your wrist it tends to get a sharp fade at the end of its flight but as it breaks in it stables out but it takes about a year to get it to break in I hated this disc before it broke in I hated tis disc and now I love this it now it has broken in it is great if you are thinking about getting this disc I reccomend that you buy won and use it for short puts and once it breaks in you can use it for long putts

I never really clicked with this disc. Most people love them, but it always felt a little awkward in my hands, and I never had much luck with putting or driving with it. With putters, it's all about feel. If it doesn't feel right in your hand, look elsewhere. That's exactly what I had to do with the Aviar, and that's what I did. I won't go any lower than 3 stars though, because I know so many people have success with them and I'm sure it is a good disc, in the end it just wasn't for me.

Probably most used disc up to 220 feet and slight wind. I've got two in DX, slightly and very beat up, and you can do pretty much whatever you want - gentle hyzers, straight shots, long annies. You just have to love it.

Very easy to use, and typically flies where I want it to. My current one tends to drop quickly at the end of it's flight, so I usually have to aim above where I'm going, but once you learn the nuances of your disc, it'll be reliable. It's the main putter I keep with me, and it will stay with me for a long time.

My first and only putter. I've used this while I started playing Disc Golf about a year ago. I've even used it as a driver since other players had no disc to use and I lent them my drivers. My first game with friends that I have won with this putter. Even as a driver it flies well, as long as mid driver. I will pick one of these up again when I test other putters.

My very first putter i ever used, The Aviar. This was purchased by my older brother as a gift who got me into this fantastic game. This disk is easy to handle nice grip and overall gummy feel to it. When used properly aimed at the chain links it creates a nice snap out of your hand into the basket.

The Aviar is a consistent disc that does exactly what Innova says it does... it's flight rating is spot on. For that reason, it has become one of the most used putters on the market. I myself like other putters better, but learning to putt with an Aviar will make you a solid putter. For this reason, I think the Aviar is a wonderful disc for beginners. They may struggle a bit at first, but they will ultimately be better putters because of the Aviar. If you start with something else, it can be hard to transition to this disc later in your game.

Disc golf's most popular putter. Quite honestly, there isn't anything to special about the Aviar. Simple, does it's job. DX is recommended as it will wear quickly in a beautiful straight putter. If you are looking for a generic putter, this is it. If you are new to the game, an Aviar is a good benchmark. Disappointed that they do not come in different softness of plastic.

I totally agree with Nick. To me the Aviar is just a ahhh... a disc. It's too gradually domey or something. I'm just not comfortable with the feel in my putting motion. I like the Aviar-X JK though.
