Nothing flies like a Comet! This disc is great for players of all skill levels. The glide is completely unmatched in this category of disc. With practice, and a clean release, a Comet can do anything you need it to. It's also a great training and form diagnosis aid, because it will do EXACTLY what your arm, wrist, and hand tell it to - whether good OR bad. It will show you if you aren't throwing clean, and it will force you to learn clean form. Throw these enough, and that clean form will translate to every disc in your bag. In general, you can typically expect a small amount of flip, and a surprisingly reliable fade for a disc this understable/neutral. Older (much older, before ESP Comets were in regular production) or domier runs will have less fade, and be more workable. As much as it's one of those tired old phrases in disc golf, the Comet really WILL hold any line you put it on, if you throw it right. Need a pushing hyzer? Throw it on a steep hyzer with way too much force. Need a hyzer flip? Give it some hyzer and some height. Laser straight shots? Just a bit less hyzer. Turnovers? Tip it up and let it go - with the right height, it'll fade to flat and turn the whole way.

The disc was more stable than I was expecting, but performed pretty well for me. Ultimately stopped bagging the comet because it wasn't a comfortable fit for my hand. I did manage a few birdies though before putting it on the shelf! In general it seems like a solid, usable mid.

I tried this disc out on a recommendation from some more experienced players, but just couldn't get it to work for me.  Not sure why, but it is not comfortable in my hand, it does not fly well when released, and doesn't have the turn that I expected.  It is probably me (I am a beginner) but I got more use out of the Buzzz and the Sol and this one just sits on the shelf now.

It is alright. It's understability makes it great for beginners. I had fun throwing it, however this purchase was also disappointing as my mid slot is already taken by my Mako and the Comet didn't do enough to justify the switch. Additionally, understable mids are simply not a good fit for me specifically as a result of this elaboration. However, do not let this take away from the Comet's viability and potential fill for someone else's bag.

I bagged this disc for a long time. Very reliable mid range flipper for me. Flat flyer for real low arm power folks.

As I started to find other discs though and my arm power changed, I found the ridge very square and arguably sharp rim profile not for me. As I added more power, the disc started to catch sporadically on my fingers, while other newer flippy drivers like the Meteor or the Sol feel better out of the hand and flip similar.

If you want similar flip and a modern/rounder rim feel, check out the Meteor.
If you want slightly less flip and a modern/rounder rim feel, check out the Sol.

Man, do I love the Comet. When I first got really into disc golf, the Comet was maybe the first disc that I fell in love with and got good at throwing. Many discs can fly where you need them to, but the Comet does it with style. More than any other disc I've thrown, the Comet is the one that looks the best in the air, gets the most compliments, lands the softest, all of it. Like others have said, you really do have to get used to the feel. But if you can jive with it, it'll be the disc in calm conditions that you can make sing any song you can whisper in it's ear. I've come and gone from the Comet, but every time I come back I'm reminded that nothing truly replicates that flight. A disc that sets the sport of disc golf apart as the beautiful game that it is.

No other disc I've tried flies like this one. It has glide for days and is so smooth on pretty much every angle. I love being able to power down while also not have having to worry about coming up short. Even though it's understable, I've found it to be really controllable. With the right touch and angle you can get it to finish in either direction.

This disc is deep and also beaded. It took me a session to get a feel of how to grip it, but I think learning how to do that improved my fan grip in general.

The ESP plastic is a little slick at first but breaks in nicely and it doesn't take long to feel grippy. Also, I have to say that Discraft's swirl and stamp game is pretty sweet.

With local tourneys canceled I was trying to help out a local dude by taking some plastic off his hands. He had a beautiful bottom stamped Comet. Having found one on my local course last year and subsequently losing it two holes later... I bought it because it looked cool.

Out in the field I noticed that it slotted nicely into my neutral midrange slot. Could go as far and as straight as my Mako 3 with a LOT less power. It went into the bag. And suddenly I started finding it had just the right amount of turn for this hole, that hole... And hey, just a tech of Hyzer... And now, if it's 250' and narrow or finishes right, I'm grabbing a Comet. And that's 40% of the holes here in VA. If I need to float in a shot from 150' I'm grabbing a Comet. In a few months it's become my most thrown disc.

We have one hole here - a 10' corridor that goes 270' downhill and usually needs a very accurate forehand flex to follow it's winding path that finishes right. The Comet parks it on a backhand with just the right anny and power. Crazy line.

It doesn't like power throws. It's very glidey, so it's not great going downhill. Aside from that - A great low power midrange for those times when it's bad footing, etc... Holds almost any line you can imagine and a few you didn't think were possible. IMHO, you should own one just so you can use it to hit that one line that has always eluded you.

With the Comet being such an odd disc... I throw it like I would a Nova. How do you translate that to a speed rating? It's a mid range you can throw like a putter. Glide is super high, and it holds it's line. High speed turn if you want it, late fade if you want it.

I bought the comet to see what the hype was about behind this disc. When I got it I did not like how deep and domey this disc felt. It was very uncomfortable in my hands and I can not get any grip with this disc to make it feel more comfortable. I will say when I threw this disc it fly very true to the numbers. I could throw it on hyzer and get a flip up for a long flight, I could throw it flat and get a straight shot out of it, and this disc held turnover lines nicely. If you enjoy the feeling of the comet you will have a very workable and versatile mid range. The comet would be a very good disc to throw on wooded coursed, or when you need to control the angle of a shot.

By far my favorite disc. I've owned one in every plastic and they are all good for different reasons. Insane amounts of glide and great for turnovers or dead straight hyzer flips. If you're buying your first one I'd recommend ESP plastic but TI is great for more overstable comet shots and Z and big Z are the least stable in my experience.

I'm from Charlotte, so when you are a beginner and you are paired up with MJ who throws these for hyzer lines, it blows your mind because you think left? then overstable right? WRONG. These are controllable for every angle. They are magical with the kinds of shots you can do. I firmly believe that this disc allows for certain shots that simply are not possible with other discs. They feel amazing in the hand. They do require a certain kind of throwing style. If you adopt that throwing style, you'll love these, if you don't, you'll hate them. MJ was the model in Charlotte so I decided to change my throwing style and it hasn't let me down. This disc has seriously changed my game. I can't say that I'll always bag one (though I still have 2) but I have learned a ton by using it.

I tried the Comet when I first started playing disc golf, and I hated it. I thought it was way too flippy. So in that sense, it's not beginner friendly. But, back then I didn't understand proper form and OAT, so I blamed the disc. Today I have gotten rid of OAT and finally purchased the ESP Comet to give it another try. Now what do I think about it? This is my new most favorite disc to throw! This thing is truly a magical disc. I put it down as "Very Beginner Friendly" because this is the disc you want to learn to throw with. It is not beginner friendly in the sense that it will be hard to use in the beginning, but this is the disc I would give any beginner and say, "learn to throw this disc with clean form and then you can throw any disc." For advanced players, this disc can carve lines like no other.

I have played my home course for ten years now and I have had several understable mids, but the Comet now has me throwing lines I've never thought about before. And one of the biggest surprises is that it not only became my favorite disc for straight to understable mid range shots, it also became my favorite disc for all of the short holes I use to throw putters on. It can do so many things, and do them so easily. This thing is so much fun to throw!!

Need a dead straight shot between 150 and 200 feet? Throw the Comet flat and smooth. Need a straight shot between 200 and 300 ft? Throw the Comet on a smooth hyzer flip. Need a shot that s-curves between trees? Throw the comet flat or with a slight hyzer depending on distance. Just get this disc already. There is a reason MJ doesn't throw any other mids than a Comet; it can do a lot if you have clean form. I love the max weight ESP Comet, but also ordered a Titanium one for shots where I need a little more stability.

If you play in the woods at all as a disc golfer, like EVER, a Comet is maybe the most important disc you can have. It has absolutely been my favorite disc to throw in the woods since I got it. Seriously any line you can think of, the Comet can probably do it. I love the versatility of it as well. If you’re at a putter hole, you can throw a soft turnover shot with ease, if you need some distance through a tight window, hyzerflip it hard and it’ll sail straight for days. I’ve yet to have a disc that fees as satisfying when you throw it correctly. Only if you’re out in the open and it’s windy would you keep this in the bag, but being an understable mid, you probably weren’t thinking about it for that situation anyway. I’m still relatively new to disc golf, but I don’t see a scenario where I’d ever take the Comet out of my bag. Understable and reliable, that’s a money combo.

The ultimate diagnostic tool. The ultimate glide machine. True neutral. The Comet is an extremely fun, often difficult, very rewarding disc to throw.

This disc has to be thrown clean. But If it is, this disc will stay true to the line and glide for days  These characteristics make it a great disc to help you refine your form. Then, once you have you refined your form this disc becomes a deadly, fairway carving instrument.

This disc must be thrown smooth but then it flies smooth. And it flies slow but far, the glide is unreal. This disc has a learning curve but it is magical and will reward you once you have learned it's arcane arts.

Don't just take my word for it. Google Michael Johansen Comet and bear witness to the GLORY!

The ESP Comet was my the first disc that I fell in love with throwing. As a beginner that couldn't throw more than 225 feet I used this disc more than anything else in my bag. For players that are new or just don't have a lot of power it can hold straight lines and slight turnovers very well! I don't use a comet anymore but any time that a new player asks what discs I recommend the comet is at the top of the list! It is great for teaching flight shapes and form because it can cover all the basic shapes the beginners need to throw, and it's very easy to tell when the thrower is making errors in technique.

I currently bag a esp comet and it has never left my bag! Sooo much glide on this disc and with a decent back wind it will hyzer flip to flat and go for ever. It's a disc that will work great for beginners to work on their form. Throw it on a hyzer line it will hold but if you are rolling over on your disc it will show you. Also my go to anhyzer disc! I recommend everyone to try one and give it a couple weeks and you will grow found of it.

The Comet is one of those discs you reccomend to a new player or someone with low power, but also should nto disregarded because of that. The Comet is glidey and very, very neutral. If you have flaws in your throwing form, the Comet will point those out to you in a hurry. But if you can master it, like Discraft pro Michael Johansen, it might just be your favorite mid. It excels at anything except flying into a headwind. Glide for days. My dad throws two Comets, and he can get his ESP out to 300 feet with ease.

After putting about 10 rounds on my pink 177 ESP, I'm really loving the lines I can hit with this disc.  Throw it with some hyzer or anny, and it will hold the line all the way.  Where this disc shines for me is on hyzer flip shots.  I can really rip the comet with a slight hyzer, watch it flip up track the slightest bit right (RHBH) and finish straight the rest of the way.  Perfect laser/ tight gap disc, with effortless distance.

The Comet is the most nuetral disc I have ever thrown. Flights are very straight with no fade at all. An excellent disc to use for working on your form as it flys exactly as it's thrown. Great hyzer flip disc. It flips up to flat and tracks slightly right for me before gently landing. Unreal glide on this thing. Some of my farthest drives have been with a Comet.

Ahh Comet, the greatest disc that nobody I know throws. I have so many laying around and I love every single one of them. Will expose form flaws faster then you can say turn and burn. When thrown correctly, it's quite easy to push this disc out to 300 feet and more. Can be thrown like a laser beam straight, turned over so far right it's never coming back or thrown on the biggest, floating hyzer's you've ever seen. Not beginner friendly but when you do learn it, you'll never be without one. I prefer the ESP over any of the other plastic choices. Do yourself a favor, buy one, learn it, love it.
