Just got my first comet.  177 gram x plastic.  Only one round with it so far, but really liking it so far.  I had several really good throws with it. If you are looking for a good understable disc, try the comet.  It's not the best for throwing into a headwind but any other time it works great.

I've been throwing Comets for over 20 years, many other molds have come and gone in my bag, but the Comet's been irreplaceable. Most of my courses here in Maine are heavily wooded, and no disc can be used to shape lines like the Comet. It will hold any line you put it on, for the entire flight, and it glides forever with a flick of the wrist. It can feel like an ultimate disc at times. It's excellent for scrambling from positions where you don't have arm/leg room to put any speed on the disc. My favorite use is throwing it dead straight at the basket. If I'm within 250' and can cleanly see the chains, I'm throwing my Comet right at the pole.

I can still remember the day I first threw a Comet.  Straight as an arrow from start to finish.  From that day on the Comet has never left my bag.  It's had a permanent spot as my go to midrange for almost 20 years now, and I've been playing for almost 30.  I currently carry THREE Comets in my bag.  One beat in Elite X, one brand new Elite X, and one ESP.  The oldest, most worn Elite X flies dead straight. Period.  I don't have to put alot on it to get it to hold the line.  The new Elite X will fly straight with a little more power without turning over.  And the ESP I use for more hyzer angle shots.  I rarely throw these discs at full power (as I'm almost always using them for accuracy drives or approaches in the woods), so all of my flight descriptions are with a controlled, lower power throw - probably in the 60-75% power range on average.  I tend to release on a hyzer on my drives, so the Comet flips to flat and just holds the line when I want it to.  I've used it for ONE DISC tournaments, and it's my go to for CTP competitions.  The beat in Elite X has also given me the shot shaping option.  I can put it on just about any line and know I'll get it close.  This is definitely a disc I cannot do without, and it will never leave my bag.  One of the absolute best midranges on the market.

The Comets overall feel is very reminiscent of a Innova Roc with a slightly different feeling wing, it isn't very deep and should fit many hands easily for back hand grips, this disc is however a bit too wide for forehands and the wing shape makes gripping it that way very uncomfortable. Something worth noting is that the Comet is a relatively large disc, not Condor large but it is definitely the widest diameter one in my bag and some times can be a bit of pain to get in and out. The ones I've been throwing are a Ellie X Comet at 172g and an ESP comet at about 175g and the profiles were pretty much identical.

The Comet is a mold that is almost immediately confidence inspiring which derives from it's incredibly neutral nature. The Comet handles power well even in the softer more baseline Elite X plastic. Out of the box the more baseline plastics will have a slight flip to them that will allow you to throw softer and maintain a smooth slow panning turnover line while the ESP and more durable blends will start off dead straight with a little fade to the end of them and will require you to put a little more on them if you want to see some turn. The Comet excels in the 100ft to 275ft range allowing you to sculpt fairways in the woods or hit straight lines through a gap. I also found the comet to be a fantastic disc for the 75ft to 125ft range when throwing high touch throws that need a lofty glide to them then sitting almost immediately. All this being said I think the Comet does fall into a niche of a backhand only disc as its versatility ends there. It is downright uncomfortable to forehand and apart from tricky rollers from a patent pending stance it will not lend well to overhands or flick rollers.

The Comet's neutral to understable nature with great glide lends well to tailwind situations or crosswinds that will push the disc to the hyzer side, in a headwind the Comet will prove to be hard to control.

The Comet is a disc that anyone can throw and for beginners it will prove to be a very straight flyer and provide great distance in that range and as your game improves the Comet's potential only increases.

Overall the Comet is absolutely a disc worthy of the praise it receives, as a primarily back hand thrower this disc carries its weight incredibly well and was surprisingly easy to pick up and exceeded my expectations immediately. I would say for myself this disc is a true 5/5 stars but I recognize that it has some short comings for those who are forehand dominant as well as it's somewhat limited tight scramble capabilities and will likely need to be backed up with 1 to 2 other molds to round out your midrange line up.

The comet is a fairly understable mid-range that has a really nice glide to it. If thrown with  enough speed, you can really get some quality distance (325+ ft.)

SHAPE: My main complaint with the Comet would be the rim. It has a very thin rim, which helps it fly with some good speed, but it doesn't feel ":great" in my hand. It tends to catch on my middle finger during RHBH throws, which can cause an occasional mis-release. I'm still a beginner, so it may just take some getting used to. I would compare the shape and feel of this disc to that of an Innova Shark. The Comet also has a pretty high dome, which factors into the grip.

PLASTIC: My Comet is an X Misprint. I like the tackiness of the plastic, but it is very dense and firm. I can tell that it is not the most durable of plastic blends. For a beginner midrange, though, the plastic is good.

SUMMARY: The Comet is an awesome disc that everyone should try. It is quite versatile in that you could throw a far turnover shot, a super straight hyzer flip type of shot, or you could even use it as an approach/ putter. It glides very well and if you practice enough with it, you can really put this exactly where you want. I would recommend this disc to everyone and I plan to buy another in a softer, flippier plastic.

The Comet from Discraft is a disc that I'm constantly coming back to. I really like throwing neutral mid-range discs, and this is one of the best. To give some context I throw these out to about 300 feet consistently, and can max them out around 320 feet. This disc doesn't take a lot of power to get decent distance because of the great glide. Its a disc where you let it do the work, if you try to over power the disc it will turn and burn. In that regard it is a great disc for teaching good form, but could be a frustrating disc for those with poor form and little patience.

I can throw this disc on a variety of lines with adjustments to release angles, but my favorite shot is a hyzer-flip to straight and just let it glide. The Comet comes in a number of premium plastics making it rather durable. The Comet can be your go to disc with some patience.

My first disc ever, still have it, bought it from Hastings (rip Hastings), it's a green x comet and I've had it for 3 years now and its had consistent use and still is very straight. Right out of the box the x comet is stable to under stable but stable enough to hold a medium power hyzer and holds all other angles. Awesome mid range and the x plastic holds up well over time.

Probably the best learning disc in the game. The comet is very neutral and will do what ever you tell it to. Flat shots go laser straight and land like a marshmellow. I love this disc.

I got my Discraft Comet Elite X (177g) in a Discraft starter pack.  Overall, the Comet is a great mid-range.  Like a lot of other people on this review list will attest, the Comet does take a little “getting used to,” but after you learn how to throw it, you can do some amazing things with it.  This is not a disc that you can really amp up, it’s a smooth finesse-type of disc that responds well to good throwing form.  Most of the time, you can expect a gentle turn or straight flight at the beginning and then a nice subtle fade at the end.

I have gone back and forth between my Comet and my Buzzz, as they are both great discs.  Currently, the Buzzz is the mid-range in my bag, but who’s to say that my Comet might take its place sometime in the future...

I used a Comet a lot as a novice. It played an important role as my go-to midrange. I loved that it felt natural in my hand and easy to throw, almost like a traditional "frisbee". It was a real workhorse for me and kept a spot in my bag for three years. I recently retired my Comet and use a Buzz and a Meteor more often, but I still feel like the Comet is a great disc for new players who want a dependable midrange that keeps a steady flight path.

I have Big Z and Elite-X Comets. The Elite-X seems to have more cometness, but will obviously lose those properties more quickly. Anyway, I love them both and can't recommend them enough. Upon release, the comet sits up somewhat and slowly holds the line for a long time: hyzer flip to flat that just barely fades, slow annies that seem to take forever to come down, and big anny lines. As others have mentioned, the glide is unreal. It is capable of surprising distance. Love this disc!

Need a turn over disc, this will do it. Need a perfectly straight flight, hyzer flip this disc and you will have a nice tight line for those shots in the trees. If you haven't tried this disc you should.

yes the discraft comet is a training disc and will expose flaws in your throwing form. A good all purpose disc in that it can be tossed in a hyzer line, straight and anhyser line, Find a heavy comet in x plastic, break it in and you should be able to shave strokes off your game.
