Comets are good, real good. It's got an old school feel like a roc or ghost, but it's straight to flippy so it complements those discs perfectly. The biggest thing is the glide. Good gracious you can push these far if you have alittle angle control. Stop holing out and get one of these things. One of the best discs ever made.

I get my midranges out to 300 feet with my forehand, and i have finally settled for the Comet as my pick for a straight shot. My release is mostly a hyzer flip so this is great disc for that. The understability will make it flip up every time and the bead makes it pretty torque resistant. The understabily and the bead in one disc makes this disc at least a bit unique. Even though its the best understable midrange I have thrown I wont give it five stars as I havent got the consistent right to left movement out of the disc yet. I know that this disc is loved for the backhand, but I think its underappreciated for the forehand. The discraft numbers for the disc is spot on as well, everything is great about this disc.

Tried using this disc but found the feel to be terrible and was far too flippy for me. Would burn into the ground almost immediately.

"MJ throws and loves the Comet, so why wouldn't I", was my thought as I tried one out for the first time. Actually, my son is on the Discraft Underground team, and he didn't love the feel of the rim, so I gave it a try. It's been in my bag since and I don't see it coming out anytime soon.

If you've ever thrown the Bounty by DD, this disc is pretty similar, but maybe with a bit more glide. It's not completely understable like the numbers would indicate. It flies pretty straight for me even when thrown at full power, but it may ever so slightly turn before ever so slightly fading back to the left, but only slightly. My favorite molds to throw are the ones that have very little to no fade. They are perfect for point and shoot golf, and that's exactly what the Comet does! If you have a 275' tunnel shot... Comet (or Bounty but with a slight bit of hyzer). If you have a 280' turnover shot and not a great forehand... Comet on an anny line!

This disc is money, and I highly recommend it to anyone, and is very beginner friendly. I will say though, my won was right... the rim does feel odd with that large bead, but I don't care. It flies too well to not keep in the bag!

I bought my first Comet from Discraft as I was also ordering a Supercolor disc that Infinite doesn't seem to have. I'll probably buy a couple more while I'm on here. It's been a little less than a week since my Comet arrived, and it's a wicked, stable, midrange. It probably won't replace anything in my bag, my Sol is still a great understable approach and I can't imagine hyzer flipping the Comet, my Zone is still a better forehand approach disc, but there's nothing quite like ripping this disc down the fairway and watching it hold a line.

If you throw the Comet right it will be your best friend. More than anything it rewards proper form, and I'm at a point with my game where I can get some really great distance out of it. This actually makes it a wonderful learner disc too, because when you throw it wrong, you will absolutely notice. The thing that's shocked me so far is that, even having a few less than stellar throws, it is much more forgiving than I thought any disc could be.

Up until throwing my Comet I was of the opinion that the Innova Leopard was the best starter disc for teaching proper form to brand new players. The Discraft Comet feels very similar to my arm, even if it feels radically different in my hands, but its lower speed is better suited for new players, and it's much more forgiving to bad releases in my experience. I remember learning to throw my Leopard, when I'd have a bad toss I'd end up in a bush somewhere. The Comet, despite the laws of physics, seems to recover much better, and I always end up down the fairway; it may not be exactly where I wanted it to go, but when I have a bad throw with the Comet it's still a much better throw than I have with just about any other disc in my bag.

More experienced players will also find the Comet provides an absurd amount of control. Hyzer it and watch it curve all the way to a soft, beautiful landing. Anhyzer it and weave your way through the woods. The utility I've gotten out of this disc over just a handful of rounds is silly. Sure, I have faster discs that will outdrive it, but when the Comet parks itself right where I tell it to, it's hard to justify.

Try it, buy it, you won't be disappointed.

Throwing the Comet with a fan grip has helped me progress to the next level after a plateau in my game.  One round in and it became my go-to mid-range for wooded holes, and after 3 rounds of tossing glidey, hovering UFOs through trees and into the fairway, this has become my favorite disc. While it isn't a bomber necessarily, it gets sneaky distance due to glide and it would absolutely be my choice for a solo disc game at a wooded course.  It's sensitive to release angles and power, but in a good way, where it highlights both flaws and strengths in form.

The life of a Comet is one of great utility. At first glance it appears an introductory disc, as the understability allows even the slowest arms to achieve a straight flight. But with experience the flipping nature of the Comet can be harnessed to navigate the most tightly wooded fairways. My Comet gets the most use as a scrambling disc. Ever find yourself unable to generate full snap whilst leaning away from a tree? Allow the Comet's flip to straighten out your throw.

Additionally the Z-Line plastic is highly durable, making the Comet a disc able to follow wherever your game goes.

The Comet was one of the first discs I ever owned (along with a Buzzz). As I began to learn the game this was my go-to disc. I learned how to hyzer flip with it and also how to get solid distance with little power. I remember feeling like a beast when I threw this thing 250 feet (which at the time was my max distance). It is a truly effortless disc with tremendous glide. I have since replaced the Comet in my bag after throwing my beloved one into a pond, but nothing can replace the special feeling I get when I think about this disc. I highly recommend to beginners but it a disc that can be mastered by all skill levels.

The comet is my all time favorite disc. It's a neutral-understable, straight-flying, versatile midrange disc that can handle all kinds of shots and conditions. I can throw this disc on any line with some adjustments to release angles, but my favorite shot is hyzer-flip to flat and just let it glide. On a buttery smooth shot you can really boost this thing out there. ~300ft consistently. Powered down it will hold a hyzer, and with a little more power it will fly dead straight or turn over and stay turned over, but it all depends on your release and power. The comet is unforgiving if you miss your release angle, but when thrown right it is a beautiful thing, when thrown wrong it can be bad. This disc is the ultimate tool for learning form, great for beginners to learn on, and more advanced players can use this disc for all kinds of shots. I use mine for everything, even long putts. Perfect for 1 disc rounds and if I had to pick just one disc to play with, it would be the comet.

It turns, it glides, it rolls, it flicks, it improves your form, 165g will flip late, 180g will hold a hyzer, you learn to throw at 80% power, it helps you get the nose down, they're great at dinner parties, its from outer space, makes your other discs straighten up and fly right, your girl can throw it, your child can throw it, your mom can throw it, it is polite to trees, it can't hide under leaves, it'll call in to work and let them know you're too healthy and you're going outside, never forgets your ace day, comes in a variety of oranges, clear, clementine, creamsicle… loved by hippies, loved by... Everyone.

I have thrown the comet in Z, Zglo, Big Z, and ESP but my favorite is the Z. Mostly 177-180s. New to beat in a variety of stabilities. I use it for straight lazers, line carving, hyzer to flat or flat to flip.  For shredding the woods and throwing straight glidey shots. It goes where I throw it. A viable disc for all skill levels, the comet never leaves my bag.

Solid disc, though as my power improved I no longer bag it.  I find it to strictly be a turnover disc or a hyzer flip to straight/right drift if you give it the right amount of finesse. Solid disc overall.

    Disc - 176 Discraft Z Comet

Feel - The feel of the comet is the thing that turns most people off of this disc. It has a shallow rim but then has a dome that makes it feel deep. It is fairly difficult to describe but once you feel one you will understand what I'm saying. It definitely feels a little odd for a power grip so I always control grip this disc. Z plastic is very durable but can be slippery in bad conditions.

Flight - If you can get past the feel of the comet then the flight will make you love this disc. If thrown hard and with a bit of hyzer it will flip up to flat and go very straight. If thrown flat it will slow turn the whole flight and it can hold amazing anhyzer lines when thrown on them. I would say that the comet is a disc that can do some of the most unique shot shapes in the game. Usually I use this disc on holes that I'm not sure what else to throw and the comet usually gets it done.

Overall - The comet is a great addition to any players bag but can feel odd to some players. It is also a great teaching tool as it will flip over if thrown poorly and can definitely help learn a control grip and better form.

    173g Z Comet

This disc is decent for the understable mid slot but is not my favorite disc, in fact, I hated it when I first got it and it didn't like me either. This disc takes skill to use- the claim to fame for the comet is that it can handle any shot type and any angle, and that's true. The trick is that it requires a thrower who can consistently throw every shot type (which was not me when I got this disc). So, I'd say only get this disc if you're confident with understable discs that require a lot of touch, because this disc will critique your form and it is not forgiving. Once I got the hang of it, this disc was great. I use it for anhyzer backhand and forehand shots mostly that will hold the anhyzer for the full flight. This disc isn't too hard to throw dead straight either, it'll flip up to flat and ride straight on a hyzer release but it doesn't go too far because it just doesn't have a lot of speed- this disc relies on its glide for any distance. Speaking of speed, this disc doesn't like to be thrown harder than it can handle. I throw this disc pretty soft, even softer than I throw some putters, and that's where I get the most consistency out of it. Tricky disc to use, but go for it if you're up to the challenge- it'll reward skilled players and remind casual players that they're not Michael Johansen.

The understable mid range spot in my bag has seen many different molds with varying degrees of success. The Comet is the disc that will stay in that spot forever. It holds turnovers better than any disc I've ever thrown without turning and burning. It also has the perfect amount of flip up for hyzer flips in the woods. Right now I'm bagging a Z line and I plan to try it out in different plastics. I highly recommend it to anyone.

This is one of those discs that takes some time to master, but once you do, you can craft lines you never thought possible. I got this after I first started frequenting dgcoursereview, and really started working on my form. I started with a light X-plastic, and my first thought was "THAT GLIDE!" I barely threw it 50% and this bad boy just took to the sky. Then my second throw, I put much more on it, and well, it went VERY right. It is an undertable midrange that can excel on long glidey anhyzers, frozen rope straight shots, and once you work with it, hyzers as well. This disc well tell you if you have bad form, or any OAT (off-axis torque) in your throw. Once you master it, you'll notice you have a much smoother toss. I prefer to carry one Z and one worn in X to cover all of my understable needs.

The Z Comet is a disc that is capable of a huge variety of shots. Generally my favorite disc when I can't decide what to throw because it is capable of so much. Slow hyzer approach, hyzer flip to flat off the tee, and holding on long anhyzers with just a hint of fade at the end.Very glidey, if you have room to give it height these go far.

X plastic starts out nearly the same but beats in faster, with more turn and hardly any fade after a few months. I carry one of each. X is much better when wet, Z gets slippery fast.

Cons: Comets are not forgiving of sloppy releases. If you have wobble caused by off axis torque this disc will flip and roll, you must be smooth with it. Widely recommended as a training disc to teach a smooth release. Also not my favorite when it is windy.

This disc is interesting... It can do anything you want it to do, it can hold hyzers, anhyzers, can flip, can go straight, you name it, the comet does it. BUT the feel and consistency is weird to me. I've never been able to quite learn this disc 100%, and it's a very unique, but weird feel. Good flyer, just takes a lot of work to learn

The Comet is the best disc to evaluate your form.  Thrown cleanly a Comet should have a very neutral and straight flight.  Comets don't like OAT (Off Axis Torque, or wobble in flight), and when thrown with OAT, fly understable, and as a result are a very good indicator of throwing form.  Pair a Comet with a Wasp and 95% of your shots are covered.  I bag a heavy domey Z, and it is my slightly US midrange, as I don't have clean form.  Comets glide very far, and commonly will end up 25' further than you thought you threw it.  Beat Comets are a thing of beauty too, as I also bag a beat X for US midrange work, and line shaping through the woods.

This is the most underrated and under-valued mid on the market.  It is more consistent than the Buzzz and can shape shots much better as well.  It is great for touchy up-shots, navigating the forest, and beautiful, straight shots.  Out with the Buzzz and in with the Comet.

I like the flight of this disc, pretty understable. A good disc to hyzer-flip or throw a turnover. The only thing I don't like is the bead. I have a pretty unique grip, where I don't put my fingertips under the rim at all and more "pinch" the disc between my palm and fingertips. But the severe bead on this disc makes that grip extremely uncomfortable and unreliable. For people that throw with a more conventional power grip, this is a great disc that holds true to it's flight numbers.

I wanted to love the Comet, but it just never spoke to me. For me the rim is a bit weird in hand, and probably a bit too glidey. I understand why people like it, it just won't likely find a permanent home in my bag. Would still recommend.

My favorite mid.  Slow flyer that holds any line you put it on.  Demands good clean form much like the Innova nova.  As such it's a great disc to work on your form.  Powers down nicely.  But I Love to rip these!  350' is not a problem.  Feels similar to a roc and pairs up perfectly.  Elite X has the most turn, Elite Z being the most stable.  ESP is somewhere in between the two.  ESP are also much flatter.  I bag a Z and X.

Profile: This is one of the more interesting discs on the market. It is very domey with a tiny rim.

Flight: It flies much further than it's speed indicates.  It's definitely understable and my issue was I had trouble keeping it from staying on an anhyzer line. It went right and stayed right.  Good disc, it does have a big dome, though, but it's definitely worth looking into.

Comparison: This is such a niche disc that I don't think there is a comparison on the market.

Final thoughts: I lost this disc (forgot it on a hole) and of course no one called when they found it.  I was bummed but not bummed enough to replace it.  For me I lacked the consistency with this disc to re-buy it.

I cant say enough how much I love the comet. I have a 174G elite z that I recieved at a Discraft sponsored PDGA event and it has been in my bag ever since. Due to the massive glide this thing has I use it for everything from approach shots to drives off the tee under 300. This is my favorite stand and deliver disc as well. I threw this disc yesterday on a 360ft. downhill drive and parked it 3 ft. from the basket. The disc flies understable but with a little hyzer and care not to over power it, this thing is like a lazer beam with wings. The glide on this disc is unreal and will fly way further then all of your other midranges. I would say if you are a beginner you NEED this disc.

I've been playing DG for about 16 months now. I recently played in a Tournament, and picked out a Comet as my winnings. I picked it because it was a midrange I had never heard of or thrown before. I throw mostly all midrange discs, and just starting to expand out to some Fairway Drivers. The disc I picked out was a 172g tye dyed Z plastic with the club's stamp on it. The plastic greatly reminded me of Innova's Champion plastic, but not quite as stiff or slippery. My disc does have a small bead on the bottom which I wasn't sure I was going to like, but have had no issues with. It doesn't have an overly deep rim and is really easy to grip. After the weekend it sat on my table and I decided to take it out in my yard and throw it. To say I was completely shocked is an understatement. This has to be one of the straightest flying mids I have ever thrown. I initially started out throwing it about 100 feet to get the feel of it because I was unsure about the bead possibly hanging onto a finger, but after about 20 throws or so, it was not an issue. The more I threw it, the more I started to like it. Dead straight, very little fade. It hyzered beautifully with a slight angle, and responded to the angle really well. I was actually even able to get a few nice anyhyzers with it, which is a skill I have yet to grasp consistently. After throwing this disc, I think with the help of some guys in my league I might be able to finally figure it out. Then I moved the basket out to about 150ft, and had the same kind of result. I was really impressed how it flew! I think this disc is most similar to my MVP Tangent which I have carried in my bag and is the disc I use the most. The Comet however has a much straighter flight. I cannot wait to go play a densely wooded course to see how it does. I was getting this disc consistently out to 150-175 feet, which is about what I have been getting with the Tangent. I definitely am going to be keeping this one in the bag for awhile to see how it does on different courses. I have been playing the unwooded flat straight courses that are my league's home courses and it is the perfect disc for those them. I highly recommend picking up one of these and giving it a try! I think this is the PERFECT disc for a beginner. I love my Tangent, but the weight of it may be a bit much for a beginner, this one comes in lower weights, better for a beginner. It seems this disc is forgotten and underrated, and definitely shouldn't be!

It's true, at short range, this disc will hold a line very well. I have a bad tendancy to over power it and turn it over more that I want, so I have trouble hitting my lines with it. I know people who throw it very well though.

If you have a tight wooded pin, use Z comet (max weight). Unlike Z buzz, it flies dead straight with little to no fade at the end. I use either Z glide or Z comet for anhyzer shots (RHBH). I prefer Z glide for relatively long anhyzer shots and comet for short pins and anhyzer shots.

Renowned as a great disc to test your form, but don't stop using it there. A Z Comet will flat out launch if thrown with a little hyzer. Comets have incredible amounts of glide due to their domey top so little effort is needed to get a smooth, straight shot uphill or downhill with limited left to right movement unless you want it that way. If you're looking for a workable midrange that can cover the gamut of shots up to about 250 feet then the Comet should be in consideration.

Comets are excellent for tail wind or anhyzer discs. Definitely a very sensitive touch disc. I carry one mostly to improve my form. Not a great first midrange, but excellent to show form flaws. Treat a Comet right, and it will reward you. Treat a Comet wrong, and you will know.

A great disc if for no other reason than its renown as a training tool. This disc is a bit finicky in that it will expose flaws in your form better than almost any other disc out there. It's a great - and undeerrated - thrower as well. It performs well in short tunnel drives and placement drives and approaches, and will hold the line its given all the way to the ground.
