    Pro-D Details

Pro-D is Discrafts affordable basic plastic blend. This isn't the most durable plastic, but it provides good grip and is very affordable. For old school disc golfers that like to "break in" thier discs for varying flight paths, Pro-D is an excellent choice. It is also one of the most popular blends for putters and is often referred to as "putter line" plastic.

I never really thought much of the avenger SS. I always thought it would be too flippy for me even though I was not throwing very far. That all was until I saw Brodie Smith with Paul Mcbeth and Paul Ulibari throwing them on some great lines. I feel like this is more of a fairway driver than a distance driver even though you can get some long shots with this disc. If it the perfect stability out of the box for a lot of beginners. The more advanced player will find this disc more of a flippy option that you can shape to your will. The Avenger SS is a very underated disc in my opinion that has been getting more and more of a spotlight with newer players because it is found in Discraft starter packs. This disc is a great first fairway/distance driver for new players and it is a viable option for advanced players even at the professional level. The pro-d plastic is a very cheap and great plastic to get if you really want to get a feel for this disc and an idea of how it flies. But beware this plastic will beat in relatively quickly and it can make this disc too understable. But with options of premiuim plastics you can not go wrong getting a pro-d to try and test and then pick up more durable plastics for your long term throwers. If you are looking for a faster fairway driver that you can shape all sorts of shots when on technical courses, or if you want a distance driver for new players, check out the Avenger SS.

IN Pro-d plastic this disc has a decent pop top feel. got a pretty decent gash in it on the 2nd throw (hit a root in the ground). RHBH flips on its back pretty hard when thrown flat. add hyzer off tee and will hold straight then anhyzer out. pretty decent FH roller disc or thumber over trees.

Very understable disc, however this is a prime disc for someone who is just starting out with disc golf.

I got this as a fairly new player, looking for more distance. It was an upgrade in speed from my much beloved Leopard (also a FANTASTIC disc, go buy one) and loved it immediately. It went very straight as I was not as strong as I am now, and was extremely reliable. BUY this if you are a newer player looking for a higher speed. I can't find much use for it now because I just cannot get it to not flip over. But every now and again I'll pull it out on a long fairway shot. Good disc for beginners, definitely worth a buy

This is the disc that taught me how to throw a hyzer-flip. It happened on accident when I was still fairly new to Disc Golf, and it took me a while to figure out what was happening. Once it clicked I started out-driving friends who have been playing for years. I still bag it occasionally, usually while I wait for a Pro Destroyer to beat in properly.

A word of warning to the newer folks...this is not condusive to head wind throws. I promise, no matter how much hyzer you put on it, it WILL turn all the way over. That being said, its great for uphill and tailwind drives, and an amazing disc to learn your hyzer-flip game with. Get it in a little lighter weight than you're used to throwing, put a big hyzer on it, then watch as it stands up and rides straight for days.

There are other discs I would bag instead, but all things considered, this is a fantastic understable distance driver.

Easily became one of my favorite discs and has been used for all sorts of shots. Great for beginners who are developing their drives and not a disc I see too many people leaving out of their bag. Now that I throw with much more power than when I first started, this disc has performed some of the best hyzer flips I have ever thrown and has saved me numerous times. Definitely a highly recommended disc if you are just starting out, or looking for a good disc you can flip. Weak at forhands? well you can anny this thing for days and have it finish right as well.

The Discraft Avenger SS Pro D (174g) is a solid, relatively straight-flying distance driver that should provide a great amount of distance and control for noobs.  Intermediate players will be able to make this disc “dance” a little bit more and should be able to do some really cool things.  On controlled throws, expect a straight flight with a gentle fade at the end.  On harder throws, expect a healthy turn at the beginning of the flight, then a gentle fade at the end for a near net-zero result.

Advanced players may have a bit too much oomph for this disc, but I would imagine it would be a very nice control driver to throttle back on and throw for placement.

The Avenger SS is one of the first discs I recommend to new players who need a stable, dependable driver. When I began, I used an Avenger SS in Pro-D plastic for a lot of months and it really helped me get a feel for how to throw. Once I got this disc to fly straight, then I knew that my technique was improving, because the disc itseslf didn't have a tendency to pull one way or another. Once my arm became stronger, then the Pro-D plastic started pulling to the understable side. I bought a titanium plastic version and was able to continue playing with the Avenger SS as a straight shooter. After almost four years of play, I throw quite a bit harder than I originally did, so I only use the disc for shorter throws in the 200 foot range, or if I want an understable longer thow, it comes in handy.

All in all, I'd say that this is a top recommendation for new players. You'll be temped to get something with all kinds of long-distance ratings and crazy flight paths, but until you can control a stable disc, you really won't know if it is the disc or your throwing technique that is causing the end results.

This disc is a great turnover disc for an intermediate player, or a driver to throw with the wind. I can by no means crush a disc but I throw 325-375 on an average drive. If there is any wind coming at you or from left to right (RHBH)and you are trying to get some real distance then it will sail to the right and never come back. I got a regular avenger for that particular shot. This disc would be great for someone who doesn't have a whole lot of power it is just plain easy to throw. I also have a champion Innova monarch, which on paper looks similar to this disc but from my experiences the monarch is less understable.

also my disc is a 163 pro-d, would be less understable with a heavier weight

I picked up this disc few months ago. It's took me a little while to get used to the stability as I was used to more overstable discs. However as a RHBH it's become my go to for shots I need a disc to go right.

I have a Pro-D Avenger SS that I got with the Discraft beginner's set. I'm pretty new to disc golf still, so I'm sure I'm not at the arm speed to use this to it's full potential. I'm able to get some good straight throws out of it though, which is probably due to the fact that it's understable. I'd recommend it to new players because I find it a little easier to control than many other distance drivers I've tried.

I have 2 of these discs and both give me more distance than any of the other 15 or so discs in my bag. My skill level is definitely beginner even though I've been throwing discs for a few years. I rate this as a 4 star disc for beginners.
