Best flex forehand disc I’ve ever thrown. I worked for a long time to beat mine in, and now I can shape it into almost any flex line.

I also picked up a Halo Star version, which is more overstable—almost too overstable, if that’s what you’re looking for.

The most beautiful, laser beam forehand disc I've ever thrown. With Backhand, its the perfect disc to put up high when I need it to crash down. Looking forward to trying more plastics.

This is a fantastic disc. Great rim feel for forehand shots, very reliable fade even in a headwind. I love throwing this on a slight anhyzer line on forehand so I get a beautiful flex, even in the wind. Pairs very well with a mint diamondback, which has basically the same rim and is just a bit less stable and better in low wind conditions.

When I started disc golf the friend who got me into it has a champion firebird and it is one of his workhorses espcially on forehand. So I naturally got one becuase he used it so much. The first one was in champion plastic. This disc was way to overstable for me. I got one in a lighter weight (171g) and star plastic and while I can't get a great flight on backhand it is one of my go to discs for forehand, especially if I need it to go right. I can also flex this with some ease due to the overstability. It is a disc that you definitely need to wait to get but when you are ready for it and can start using it, you will be very happy.

The Star plastic has a good feel and smooth release, and I've always been pleased with its durability (I have several in this plastic). I got my Firebird slightly used, but it appeared to be in very good shape still (thank you Star plastic quality), and if it had started to get beat in at all, you certainly wouldn't think so from the flight: This is easily among the top 2-3 most overstable discs I have ever thrown -- so not beginner-friendly at all. I typically use other discs more often for drives and other shots, but this became a very useful disc when throwing into the wind (giving me just a longer version of the same consistent flight path), or needing reliable hard turns/skips. I had three different discs in my bag that all did virtually the exact same thing, so when trading discs with a friend, I thought to trade one or two, but the Firebird was the one he wanted. It performs just as it's supposed to: Never a question about how it was going to travel, which is a nice option to have available in the bag.

Firebirds are what every other overstable/utility fairway driver is based on and for good reason. They are great discs.

Star Firebird - I have 169g one that is about a year and a half old. This is the farther flying of my two. It is pretty beaten in so when thrown flat it will push flat for a long time before fading out at the end. If I put it on anhyzer it will hold the angle and slowly pan out of it until fading back at the end. On forehand I can throw this one out to 350 but that is max distance, I can comfortably get this one to 330. I will also throw this one on backhand occasionally when I need a very overstable shot that goes to about 300 (I have a consistent 375 ft backhand) or if I am throwing into a headwind.

Champion Firebird - This one is 173. It is very overstable. It flexes out of pretty much any angle I put it on. Flat it will push flat for a little bit but then hyzers out very aggressively. On anhyzer it will fight out and then still fade at the end. I can throw this one a max of about 330 but really only comfortable in the 300-315 range (For reference I can throw a forehand 400+ feet). I do not throw this one backhand,

I love the firebird on forehands it flat with a very reliable fade no matter what angle you put it on, on backhands I find it to be a little flippy though which I find weird for how overstable it is.

The Firebird is a very popular disc however underrated in Star plastic. If you can find a flat one, it flies similarly to a Sexton Firebird for nearly half the price. No matter how much you beat it in it still maintains its stability.

I picked one of these up with the intent of finding a good, reliable, overstable fairway driver. This disc met all but one of my expectations. This disc is not quite as consistent or reliable as I thought it would be. When thrown perfectly, this disc does what I want it to do. But if there is just the slightest error in nose angle, release, speed, or spin, the results are pretty painful. I have been told by friends that it flies better forehand. I can't really confirm or deny that myself, as my forehand is limited to approaches. But regardless, there are other very overstable fairway drivers out there that are much more forgiving, and I would recommend purchasing something else. That being said, it feels very comfortable in my hand, and it is a good disc. Just certainly not for me. If you are a beginner, you shouldn’t even think about acquiring this disc.

I have been throwing this disc for a month now. It has definitely found a place in my bag. I love it for low-flight drives with a predictable fade and skip. For me, it has been a pretty good fit for my current arm speed to get the desired result. I initially got it to work on my sidearm game a bit more, but it's become a disc I now often throw backhand as well. I just ordered this disc in Champion plastic, too.

A long time favorite of many players for a reason, particularly for forehand throwers because this disc can handle torque. I have star plastic, which should add a bit of extra stability. I get a bit of flip into a headwind, but it always hooks up and finishes where you expect it to.

As you get to know the game and your power improves, this disc can handle every bit of power you give it. For a new player, this disc is going to go a few feet and then hook hard into the ground. For an experienced player, this disc will go lots of feet and then hook hard into the ground. It is consistent and a huge comfort to have in the bag for many situations.

I am not sure this review is helpful, since there are already so many glowing reviews of this wonderful disc, but I'll add my support here.

The Firebird is a great backhand and forehand disc. I primarily use mine for big hyzer shots as it has a hard fade at the end of its flight. It is extremely over stable so it is not a disc I have to worry about turning over. When thrown low this disc also skips very well which plays well with low ceiling shots. My favorite fairway driver in my bag as it has many uses, good stability, very predictable, and very durable.

The perfect forehand utility disc. This is a utility disc for skip shots and tricky shots you need to F A D E HARD. I like to use them on hard dog leg rights with a forehand or tricky spike hyzers. In general, keep it low and get a huge skip at the basket!

While I've never felt that the 4 Fade is true (more like 2.5/3, in my experience), the Firebird has been my go-to forehand, windy-day driver. Throw it on a little anhyzer to really unlock some distance potential, or throw it flat and feel safe in knowing it'll always fade back. Do not recommend for beginners, as it'll crash out within 150 feet if you don't put some serious snap on it.

This has become my most used disc and I love it. I used to have a Champion Daedalus that I really enjoyed when I started out playing. I learned to throw it forehand and ended up losing it on a very windy day. I found that people really enjoyed throwing the Firebird as a forehand disc and that's primarily the way I use it. I think people developing their forehand will really enjoy this driver. Plus it's high fade is reliable in times you need to get around a corner. I recommend this disc!

I got this disc after a couple months of playing. From a beginner standpoint this is a great "get out of jail" disc. It is the perfect level of being overstable for high hyzer to get around obstacles. Now that I am throwing harder it goes straight for 70% of the flight then fades hard at the end.

Right out of the box my Star Firebird feels good in the hand. However it doesn't meet the "very overstable" tag that most of the reviews and descriptions have.

The disc actually flies like it has a turn rating of -1 and I can get some actual distance out of this disc with a low power backhand. I've managed to turn it over on just a slight anhyzer release at least a couple times in the last couple days.

In itself it's not an issue, but it flies more like a slightly over stable FW driver than one that is very over stable. This could be a one off thing and maybe I just have the flippiest version of this disc ever made.

Edit: Some friends told me the heavier discs are more OS. Mine is in 161 and might be slightly less stable because of the weight.

The star firebird is what I reach for when I need a straight forehand from 200-300 yard's out. Keep one in my bag full time. Recently purchased a champion firebird. Loving it as well.  I have been disc golfing for a little over a year. I'm 38 and consider myself decent with forehand and backhand. Found that I really need to be versatile to get better.

This disc has to be my go to overstable disc. This disc will fade any corner, no matter how sharp. I found this disc, called the guy, and told me I could have it, and ever since, this disc is my corner workhorse. I would not recommend this disc for a beginner, unless you have some hard fading corners. Even though it's a 9 speed, it really has some power in it, and I love it. It's a mainstay in my bag.

Do not try throwing this disc backhand until you under how powerful its hook is.  Great utility disc as once you understand it - you will be able to park anything within 200 ft and.  Great for forehand shots.  The disc can basically go as far as you can throw it and won't glide forward at all once it loses speed.  I wouldn't recommend for driving, but need distances out of the brush it is an easy go to. Always has a spot in my bag.  This disc is also mimicked by a lot of other manufacturers so you know it's good. Worth bagging and getting to know.

Disc: Firebird - stock Star 171 gram - Light Blue

Feel: The recent Star Firebirds have been very flat including this one I picked up. The Star plastic is pretty flexible and durable, taking tree hits without much damage or wear. The Firebird has a couple different mold variations depending on the plastic with more/less dome but the rim generally feels blunt and the concave bevel'ed underside of the rim is quite aggressive. Star plastic is great for grip in all conditions and wears in consistently over many throws. The Firebird mold is comfortable with both backhand and forehand grips.

Flight: Quite overstable, the flat 171 gram Star Firebird flies closer to a FD3 off the shelf. It will hold straight a bit longer than max weight and champion ones but still finish strong with a sort of dumping fade during the low speed flight. Handles a lot of arm speed & has great torque resistance for forehand throws. More gradual fight out of steep anhyzers from backhand and forehand throws. Headwind will cause it to hold straighter for longer. Generally won't hyzerflip without a headwind and high release speed.

Impressions & Comparisons: At 171 grams, I think the Star Firebird is mellowed out enough to make it useful for more players and situations. Hard to beat the consistency and flight for competition players. Useful utility for windy or wooded scramble shots.

Comparing it with other OS 9 speeds, a flat Star Firebird gives the flight of a FD3 with the flatness of a Felon, Scepter, or Draco. A good substitute for a Sexton tour series available in stock form. There is a reason many of them sell out on this site/retail shelves.

Working on improving your forehand? Give the Firebird a try, preferably in a nice stiff plastic! By far one of the most reliable discs in the bag!
Great for skip shots and generally getting around any corner.
    Unmatched ground play after contact!

I'm an evolving beginner, moving into intermediate and can finally realistically rate discs up to around 11 speed.  The Firebird is my choice for shots that need to turn hard to the left on the backhand.  Very difficult for me to flip it (closer to impossible) but the hyzer line is always reliable and distance control is very consistent.

My Star Firebird has a Swiss Army Knife-like role in my bag in that it really can do so many things!  First of all, it is pretty overstable so it makes a pretty good driver into a headwind.  I've thrown this one into a pretty good headwind and it will always come back left (RHBH).  The flight characteristics of this disc hold a straight line before transitioning into a hard fade at the end.  The fade is so reliable that I have used this disc on a couple shots over water because I know it will come back to land with a hard right to left fade (RHBH).  Second, this is a great choice for overhead throws.  Go ahead and use this disc for throwing a thumber or tomahawk shot.  I have a couple of discs that I use to throw overhead shots, but the firebird is by far my favorite.  Next, I really like this disc in executing a spike hyzer shot.  Just throw this disc on a high hyzer angle and let it do its work.  It will hit the ground and stick every time.  Finally, it makes a very good sidearm driver.  I don't throw a lot of sidearm shots, but I have confidence that this disc will perform whenever that throw is needed.

This disc can do so many things that beginners and experts can find a reason to bag one.  I sometimes carry 2 or 3 in different plastics and/or weights based on the high number of shots that can be executed with this disc!  The Firebird is the gold standard for what a utility disc should be!

    175g Star X-out Firebird

This disc has been instrumental in taking my forehand game to the next level. I almost never throw this disc backhand, plenty of other overstable options. But for forehand this disc is a dream. It will NEVER turn over, so I can always trust it on force over anhyzer shots to flex out and finish hard. When thrown flat it rides that line until inevitably dumping, and on hyzer it will fight any amount of wind the course has to offer.

The pure utility I can squeeze out of this disc makes it invaluable in my bag and game. I hope I never lose it.

The Firebird is the beat utility disc I have ever used.

The Firebird is the perfect disc for some things, and not so great for others. As a RHBH thrower primarily, this disc fades extremely hard, more than I like a disc to. Until this disc is extremely broken in, it will not fly anything even close to straight.

This disc really excels when when thrown forehand (sidearm), or overhand (tomahawks and thumbers). Here, the extreme overstability makes the disc shine. When thrown sidearm, the disc makes perfect acs and can be thrown on any angle you neex to hit the spot you are looking for.

The disc is the best disc outside the Aerobie Epic for overhand throws. Thumbers fade right, and tomahawks left, and once the barrel-roll is complete, the disc flies an insane distance in an almost straight line. This can be used to go around or over obstacles and get out of a wide range of situations.

I have three Firebirds, 150, 163 and 175 to fit a wide range of roles and can almost aleays rely on this disc to get me out of trouble. I don't use it much as a driver, but I always at least have one in my bag, and often all three.

The star firebird from Innova is a great discs for more advanced players who can throw with a lot of power. For me, as a younger player, it doesn't glide enough to get more distance than I would get from a midrange. However, I actually can get okay distance with this forehand. When I first got this, it would start hyzering about 10 feet in front of me. I'm a little more used to it now but I don't think I'll be using this a ton until I can generate more power. Overall, if you're a beginner or younger player, you might want to wait to get this disc. However, lots of pros love this disc which means that for you advanced players it might be a staple in your bag.

This disc is such a great disc for many varieties of shots.  It is my go to disc for flex shots, big hyzers, forehand shots, and sometimes for approaches.  I have it in 175 Star plastic which seems to work great for this disc.  I rated it somewhat beginner friendly because I think every beginner should have an overstable disc to help them learn to throw harder.  This disc can still fly like it is supposed to for beginners,   I am only 12 years old, but I can still get a nice flex shot or big hyzer without to much problem.

I love this disc! I use it mainly for RHBH force-overs where I need a consistent flex back to the left. I live in west Texas so the wind is a constant here and this disc doesn't even acknowledge that there is any wind. It basically flies the same with or without the wind. I would definitely consider this one of the main go-to utility discs for me that I can trust to do the same thing over and over.

Holy crap! Let me first start off by saying that this disc is a complete beast. I am just starting to practice my forehand throws (since I am a avid backhand thrower) and I am so amazed and blown away by how this disc flies. I own the disc in the star plastic and I’ve beat it in pretty good so far. It took me a couple of forehand throws to find my comfort zone when releasing the disc.  But as soon as I did, I knew this was the disc that favored my forehand throw the most. When I released the disc it flew fast and straight, then hooked nice and hard to the right. I was out playing 18 holes today and I hit a birdie with a forehand shot from 100 feet away. No kidding. I never thought I could throw a disc like that until I stumbled across this hidden gem. Throw it forehand and keep throwing it forehand. Over and out.

I will have to do another review after 1 or both of the following happens:

    1. My arm gets WAY stronger.

    2. I beat the heck out of this disc.

It is seriously beefy. I knew that going in but this was more than I expected. I have a 390 average distance arm with the semi-regular 400+ drive when I'm in a field. On a pretty good anhyzer release this will fade like 30 feet out of my hand. It's insane. I will say it seems to go further than I ever think it will. Regularly, I will throw this and expect that it only went 200 feet and it ends up going 260. I really want to use this disc for a FH but for now, it is still just too beefy.

I'm rating this a 4 because it does what it is advertised to do, I just underestimated that advertisement.

This is the overstable control driver that all are measured agaisnt. This is a great disc at getting left in a hurry, especially in champ plastic. I really like the star versions in high 160s, these are usually flat and overstable to start with, but straighten out some and gain some distance. Don't expect to throw Firebirds like your other speed 9 discs, this will throw more like your slower fairway drivers. Overall, this is one of the best discs around.

The firebird is exactly as advertised. I use this disc primarily for forehand drives. I can really throw this disc with a lot of power and trust that it will still fade back at the end. Great for long flex forehands.

This is one of the first discs that I got when I first started and it has become my go to get out of trouble disc. I was not the best when I first started and so scrambling as rough as it was became my best friend and the Firebird has been the most reliable disc that I have and my go to for most forehand shots that I have if I need something that is going to hook hard or finish quick with a short flex shot I trust that this disc will go where I need it to.

This has got to be one of the most used discs in my bag. can always rely on a nice line whether i flex or hard hyzer this disc. it flies well and feels great on a forehand. beautiful disc.

I picked this disc up because I heard it was popular for forehands, but I definitely don't have a big arm, so I really only use it for short shots that need to hook like crazy around a tree, or for spike hyzers. There's no doubt that it'll fade back hard when you need it to. Wouldn't recommend if you're a beginner or intermediate player looking for a bomber disc.

I've been playing consistently for about six months.  I'd read that the Firebird is the first overstable disc for a beginner to pick up.  It is still a little too much for me.  However, a few times when the wind was really up and in my face, it flew straight with good distance and a nice fade at the end.  I'm looking forward to getting more arm speed and breaking it in some more to see how it flies.

This disc is perfect when you need to get around big obstacles. I use it all the time to avoid willow trees and such. I'm so happy I got this disc as it is unlike any other that I own

I have the Star plastic with this disc, and I LOVE IT, which is in my opinion move over stable then the oh so popular SextonBird. I love using the Firebird with sidearm turnover shots since this will always come back no matter what. I love this disc for these types of throws since I can depend on it so heavily to do what I need from it.

I can put a lot on my sidearms so this disc will glide for quite a while and get to around 400ft for me with a turnover.

I don't think this is beginner friendly because it is so overstable. Rec to any more experienced players.

This is one of the most reliable discs I have ever thrown. Fights headwinds easily and always finishes left (rhbh).

This is my most over stable disc I have and I got it as a beginner and it was so hard to throw far because it always faded so fast but now when I have a hole that is short but has a big curve I can count on the Firebird

I've learned why this disc flies off the shelves so fast.  What a neat disc to learn to use.  If you are picking this up as a primary distance driver, you'll be sorely disappointed.  This disc is hands down the best utility disc I've ever put my hands on.  I have a Felon and a XXX I was trying against a firebird and while they are close, they still just aren't Firebird replacements.

A beginner needs to look elsewhere, this will not do you well at all.  But once you have 300+ power and a knowledge on flight mechanics and shot shaping this disc starts opening up shots you never thought possible.  Forehand Rollers, tomahawks, thumbers, scoobies, and it is MONEY when used for flex shots.

There are very few discs in my bag I'm hard pressed to replace, the Firebird is one of those slots.

This disc is a staple to anyones bag.  If you are looking for a overstable driver that is a consistent performer look no further.  In Star plastic it performs beautifully.  Starts to turn left out of my hand, gets a nice skip if thrown flat, just works for you every time.  Don't try and force it, let the disc do the work. Don't expect max distance as it is beefy and will fade hard, but that is what this disc is for.

If you go with the sexton firebird expect a different result, they are not the same thing as a normal firebird. That is not to say you don't want one, because you do.  I have both, but they are not the same exact disc.

Coming from a baseball background, throwing overhand and forehand have always been comfortable for me, but I struggled finding the right disc for it.  Then came the Star Firebird and I immediately fell in love.  This thing is meaty, and I never use it for max distance, but whenever I need to go over the top, or a big spike hyzer that will hit hard and stick, this is the disc Im going for!  I also bag a 2017 Sexton Firebird that is a little less overstable, and is one that I can actually forehand with some distance.  Just expect those two versions of the discs to fly in 2 very distinct ways from each other, and you'll be happy.  Both have become staples in my bag!

For reference, I have a uber flat top star plastic, like I've put a ruler across it with no gaps. This disc is nuts. It will never be your longest driver and the glide sucks, but the disc was never designed to those things. It is a meat hook and it does that better than any other disc I've ever thrown. It is a go to in the wind or for any shot that absolutely must go left (rhbh). It is fantastic if thrown on with a huge anhyzer or for short spike hyzers. It is great for shots that you are limited on distance as there is little to no forward fade. When it starts to fade, thats it, it will go no further. The only way to get decent distance is in a tail wind, but there are better discs for that. I use it mostly in the woods for those crazy tight curvy gaps and hard dog-legs. 90% of the time i throw it rhfh, but it does the exact same thrown rhbh. I usually can get 200-275ft out of it. It sounds strange, but this disc will never leave my bag and I think everyone should own a stupid, retarded, absurdly overstable disc such as this. :)

    TL;DR

Stupid overstable, low glide, great flick.

Star 172g.  SUPER beefy. I throw this RHBH when I need something to 100% dump left without turning over.  Super dependable.  Probably my favorite RHFH disc off the tee, as well.  GREAT approach disc... as long as you can manage the skip.  I don't get great distance out of this disc, but that's not really what I use it for.  Probably 280' max RHBH and about the same RHFH because I can turn it over slightly for a longer flight.   Amazing utility disc...  Seriously don't know what I'd do without it in my bag.

Bottom line:  my go-to RHFH approach disc for shots that require a strong right-finish in the 200-250' range or for similar shots off the tee.

This diwc is normally very beefy right off the shelf but beat it in a bit and it is a perfect forehand disc or a long backhand hyzer.

This thing is sweet! This disc when you toss it out straight will have an awesome fade back. unlike other over stable dsics, in my opinion, it glides through its fade much more vs just diving straight down to the ground. A really good tool that i like having in my bag!

I avoided the firebird for years like I do with most overstable discs thinking that it was just too much Disc for a person with a 380 max distance. I was wrong. This Disc is actually awesome for almost any skill level so long as you get a proper weight and are not expecting the Disc to turn at all. The Disc flies super straight and then hooks off at the end of its flight just like the chart shows. Perfect for reliability and accuracy. Great Disc for forehand flick as well. I will flick this anywhere from 150 ft out to 300 ft out (300 is my max flick distance) very accurately. I'll never be without my firebird again!

This is one of my favorite discs in the bag! For a big arm guy you can't beat the flat top star plastic in my opinion. I do not get as much distance as my 450+ Xcal but i love it for holes in the 325' to 360' range.

Contrary to popular opinion, the Star Firebird is my favorite Firebird. For the most part, Star Firebirds don't come out as flat and as overstable as the Champion version. However, there are some runs of Star Firebird that are extremely flat, and just as overstable as the Champion versions. These are my favorite Firebirds, they are awesome!

It is a fantastic headwind driver, and great for utility shots when in trouble. The Firebird is my go to forehand disc for shorter forehand shots. I also like the Firebird when I throw Forehand Rollers.

It is very dependable and I can count on a skip in the right conditions. It is really difficult to flip this disc over, and as a 400+ ft. thrower I can barely get it to turn, even with a huge headwind and anhyzer release.

The Firebird is not your distance shot, and definitely not your anhyzer shot. It is one of my favorite discs and I can see myself keeping one in the bag for a long time.

Just a beast of a disc. Great for windy days (really windy) or when you are looking for a speed 9 meathook. Amazing predictability is why this disc has been so popular for so long. Also can produce a nice skip at the end of its flight if thrown from flat. Just keep in mind the skip will be left not forward. Make sure you want to go left when you throw this disc cause that is what it does and it does it very well.

I love this disc, I wish I could throw it more but it's not often I need a disc that flys so streight as I am often in a lot of trees. The disc is a fast one, need a decent amount of power but with just enought it holds on perfectly, drops to the left just as mentiond in the chart. That is of great use in head winds or getting around bigger obstacles.

YES! This is one of my most essential discs in the bag. This is my thumber, meat-hook, and trouble shots disc often enough. Forearm it's a beast, backhand it's predictable. This is a fantastic disc. I currently have 2 in my bag, a star and glow champion. The star is a true meat-hook, with big flare skips when kept low. The glow champion is just a notch back in stability from the star. These discs get me way out and around objects and back to where I need to be, or they offer me wide routes knowing that the skip and fade will curl where I want.

I have a max weight star firebird. It's actually the only innova disc i have in my bag. The star plastic has a very flat top which gives it a very over stable flight path. Great fairway driver when you need to fight wind or finish hard left.
