Part Underworld, part Hatchet. With a play off of the success of the Underworld, this fairway driver uses the same upper-mold, but the Hatchet is slightly faster, and more stable.

Exactly as advertised. Flies understable and flips more than it fades. Long drifting turnovers when you air it out or rollers when thrown with any power or close to flat release. Glide takes over as it's turning and carries it well as it flips. Not a disc I would use often but for what it says it does, it does it well. I simply have too many turnover discs already to bag it. I have no complaints about the disc or flight path.

I use my VIP hatchet for turnover shots of all kinds and rollers. For myself, I put it on some hyzer and it flips all the way over, holds that angle and rides into a little bit of flattening out at the end. If i release it flat it hits a perfect roller angle for me.

Overall I would recommend it for an intermediate player for the listed above purposes and it can ever me a good workhorse driver for newer players.

I recently bought 2 vip hatchets and they have quite different flights, but I am happy with them. One of them is moderately understable. With about 375 feet of power I get a nice s flight out of it. The other one is flippier though and works great for rollers and long turning shots. That being said this disc may not be exactly what you expect but as a straight to flippy driver it's great

I really like the Hatchet.  I honestly thought I was getting a super flippy disc that would just be for rollers, but it is much better than that.  For a 9 speed disc, I can get a lot of distance because it has a slow gradual turn, it doesn't just burn in the ground.  I have thrown some of the smoothest lines with this disc.  I can also throw this on a bit of a forced anny line to get some tremendous rollers.  This is an excellent disc for beginners just getting started all the up to people who throw a lot.  Very workable and predictable disc.

There are very few discs that I just naturally throw well.   Most take some practice to really "get".   This disc however, is not one of those discs.   From the beginning I threw this disc well.   For me, it always seems to follow the flight path and numbers exactly how I expect it to fly.   I highly recommend.

Great disc for beginners. If you are experienced you can really draw some sweet lines in the woods. Glide for days and lands where you pointed it, almost no fade. Flies great when you dial back a bit. My first Hatchet was in the tournament plastic and what stability it does have was lost quickly... I think quicker than Innova DX. My new VIP is much less squirrely.

I found this disc on the course. I am not sure how long it was out there (the number on the bottom was no good), so that may affect my experience with it. Does not look that beat though.

This disc is very understable. My first throw with it was a full power throw on hyzer that immediately turned and burned. I don't have a big arm either. I can get a decent flight out of this disc if I really power down to something almost like a slow practice swing. Then the disc will flip to flat and still turn, but not roll over. It does have a great deal of glide. It is in my bag at the moment, but I don't know what I will end up using this disc for. Maybe a really dramatic S-curve? Maybe. But the courses I play don't have that kind of line. If you have course that needs a line like then maybe this disc could work for you.

Might be good for a beginner.

Love my hatchet although it has gone through its purposes within my bag. As a beginner it was a strait and then finish softly to the left flier. As my mechanics, technique, and velocity improved the disc began to turn over more and more. Now the purpose this disc fills for me is long sweeping turn over shots, as long it's not to windy like most turn over discs it is susceptible to the wind, I don't have to worry about it rolling over, if I also throw it high enough it will have a slight finish to it. Also it is extremely glidey for the slower arm speeds out there

The Hatchet was one of my first discs and has grown with me as my form has improved. I carry three Hatchets and each use a unique purpose based on characteristics.  I only throw it backhand since it turns over and rolls forehand.

I carry an Air Hatchet for long sweeping turnovers when released flat and also for max distance hyzer flips.

I carry two VIP Hatchets.  I have an older 176 gram Hatchet for straight throws at mid+ power.    It turns more than the Saint so they are a good pair. I carry a 172g for when I want more turnover than the 176.

When I was first learning to throw, I could get a nice S flight from it and I recommend the Hatchet to anyone who has achieved basic consistency in form and throwing technique.

Another nice disc but not for me. It was too understable for me to be a useful turnover disc. Again with the Trilogy brand you're going to get great feeling plastic. Hand feel was fine, just for me at attempting 350 foot turnovers it was too erratic. Might be nicer for newer players.

I'm primarily a RHFH player and this thing does not work for a forehand player.  It just turns and burns instantly.  I have to power it way down to the point I'm better off just throwing a midrange.  For a backhand its okay.  It hyzer flips and glides pretty well with a bit of turn and not much fade but its not what I wanted from the disc.

I have this in max weight VIP plastic. It is my go to roller/utility disc. I have used roadrunners before, but I find I am able to get this to roll further than a roadrunner. Thrown in the air, it requires heavy hyzer to get it to fly anywhere near straight. If I need to smooth a 250-300 ft dead straight shot, I am reaching for the hatchet almost every time. If I lose this disc, I will seek to replace it like for like.

This is my main roller disc, as it has replaced my Roadrunner. I still love Roadrunners, but the Hatchet goes further. Every time I lay down a roller with this disc someone will ask me "what was that?" When I tell them it is a Hatchet they always seem surprised. I can routinely get this thing out 500+. This is a very underrated disc and I highly recommend to those who are looking for another roller option.

I grabbed this disc in a tournament giveaway.  It's a nice flying disc, but is way more understable than advertised.  I would say it's somewhere between a roadrunner and a sidewinder.  Still has a very nice flight if thrown on a moderate hyzer.  Really easy to get distance when you flip it up to flat.

I have a VIP max weight, and when I first started I went from a wraith down to this after a friend told me it would be better for me. He was right as a beginner this disc gave me the distance I wanted. As I got better form and more distance it started pulling way more to the understable side of life. Fast forward to now and I use this on only hyzer flips with a healthy amount of hyzer on it. If thrown flat it turnsover super hard and into the ground for a roller unless I throw standstill at about 60%. Still a great disc for me as I don't have a sidearm and I can throw it full power with hyzer and it will flip up, go dead straight and then start to pull a little to the right (rhbh) and power down nicely.

Great hyzer-flip disc or turnover if thrown flat. I would have more to say if I threw it more, but I already have a dependable hyzer-flip disc in my Pro Beast. I still pull it out sometimes on holes with a low ceiling because I tend to air out my beast a little more for some reason, but the Hatchet performs the same maneuver while still staying low. It is a consistent disc and rarely flies anything other than the line I intended, unless I throw it incorrectly.

I literally loved this disc the day I bought it, and that was it. Tried a tournament plastic demo that JayRay with Dynamic Discs put on at my former local course, loved everything about it. Found it in 175g VIP, bought my Dad & girlfriend a couple in tournament plastic the same day, as well. My Dad’s a lefty, and he loves his. Mine literally finds every tree, bush or brush on the course. (Trying a little too hard to live up to its namesake, I guess.)

I don’t mean it just runs wild, I mean it literally heads toward anything but fairway and gets lost every time I throw it. Like it’s a socially-awkward weedeater or something. It’ll handle lots of spin, lots of power, lots of both, I just never really understand where it’s going to go—not the way I get what anything else in my bag will do.

I like the look of the plastic, it’s a beautiful, translucent, rust/copper brown with a rainbow foil stamp. It feels great in the hand, too—slight hawkbill profile, plenty of room for fingertips and a nice contour to the dome. When I throw it rhbh, flat, 60-70% power, playing anywhere between 3000’-7000’ feet, it almost always keeps going right to some degree, and doesn’t come back. It’ll roll for days, though, I just never know if it’s headed toward what I’ve aimed for.

Planning on updating my review after I’ve thrown a tournament plastic model a bit. My gf got really shy of hers after she saw how weird the vip one flew for me, so it’s basically unthrown & neither of us has any clue what to expect. Stay tuned, I guess!!

***UPDATE*** - the 175g Tournament plastic version flies a little more predictably than the VIP at courses I’ve played between 3300’ to 7000’ elevation, but it’s still not something I feel confident enough to throw in an actual tournament. I throw an Innova Roadrunner more controllably than this one and expect to stick with that for an understable “control” driver for now. Definitely interested in any tips or tricks anyone could lend about mastering the Hatchet though!!

The Hatchet is a great driver for beginners looking to add that extra distance onto their throws. It has a very small rim comfortable for any hand, especially smaller ones. It's natural understability allows for players to get a full flight out of the disc. The Hatchet also is great for anyone wanting to learning a hyzerflip or turnover shot. As you get better and add more power the Hatchet will before a very workable driver that can be throw soft and it will work slowly on a turnover. I would give the Hatchet to anyone who is newish to the sport or someone that plays a lot in wooded areas.

I just received my hatchet brand new and it doesn't fly anything like the ratings. You would expect it to fly like a slightly slower beast (10,5,-2,2), instead it is more like a slower Avenger SS (10,5,-3.1). In other words really flippy.

That being said it is still useful for long turnovers. I just wish the ratings were more accurate so I would have chose another disc that would fit my needs better.

Beginners are going to want a Hatchet to really slice into their game.

    The Good:

    - Fantastic fairway driver for beginners, it will go straight, giving slower arms the distance they crave.

    - Great for hyzer flips and turnover shots.

    - Comfortable grip

    - Good distance roller for more powerful throwers.

    The Alright:

    - A touch to much dome on the disc to recommend for forehand/sidearm throwers.

    - Do not personally think it has as much glide as listed.

    The Bad:

    - People with more powerful arms are going to find this disc turning over even with a healthy amount of hyzer release.

I found this disc to be very understable, which would have been perfect when I first started, and even now it still has many uses in my bag. Great disc to Hyzer flip for those long straight shots(as long as there's no wind or a tail wind), but it's main use for me is for bombing Anhyzer's. If you put this disc on the right line it will hold it's turn for days and land nice and soft. I throw LHBH so a lot of the courses I play seem to dogleg left for all you right handed players, and my side arm is nothing to right home about, so this gives me the perfect shot for all those right hand freindly holes. Also works good as a roller. If your new to the game PICK THIS DISC UP!

Ahhhhhh the Hatchet.... This disc is one of the most understable discs in my bag. It is perfect for hyzerflips that will go a mile. in a tailwind this disc goes farther than most of my drivers. It has super great glide. For slower arms it will be an easy thrower. For higher speed arms you will have to point it at the ground to get it to fly well. I use it for distance rollers as well. Really fun disc. I highly suggest getting one. Long live the Hatchet

The Hatchet is a fun disc to throw.  Throw it on hyzer flip and watch it glide and glide.  You can get 300 feet plus with the Hatchet pretty easily.  If you throw it more flat you get a nice S flight and even more power you can turn it over into a roller.  The Vip plastic is tuff and holds up well to tree hits etc.

I would say this would be the 3rd disc to get for a newer player (2nd being the Seer).  It's faster than the seer, and has a more consistent fade at the end.  Intermediate players may like it for anyhyzers but I think it really shines in the newer or 300 ft and under  player's bag.

I think the Hatchet is a great disc and could be a very viable option for beginners with decent form and arm speed. I believe the Hatchet is similar to a Valkyrie or Saint type disc. If I had picked up the Hatchet when I had first started playing, I think I would have loved it. By the time I tried the Hatchet, it didn't provide me with anything that I didn't already have in my bag.

The Hatchet is a pretty flippy disc for me. I was mainly using it for hyzer-flips, turnovers, and attempting to use it as a roller. I think the Hatchet is a very versatile and shapeable disc, but it wasn't exactly what I was looking for. It did a lot for me, but I couldn't get it do anything particularly well.

I think the Hatchet would be a good disc to pick up to learn a lot of the different shots available. It has a forgiving understable flight, but still has a decent fade. The Hatchet can provide some great distance and will give you a nice S flight without needing a ton of power.

I think the Hatchet is a great disc and could work well for a lot of people. I will definitely keep trying to roll this disc and find other uses for it, as all of my inconsistencies and troubles were just user error.

VIP 174. This is probably the only disc I hate to throw. I will try and thow it with power, it goes hard right. Then I ease up and throw it softer and it goes straight or left. Every time I throw it, it goes different, never the same. My buddy who likes it because it is consistant for him. He does not have a power arm and is very good with the control aspect of the game. I would recommend this to a players who do not have strong arms but are good with control and release because in my opinion it is hard to throw unless it is thrown the same way every time.
