Part Underworld, part Hatchet. With a play off of the success of the Underworld, this fairway driver uses the same upper-mold, but the Hatchet is slightly faster, and more stable.

One of my favorite discs. I love the flight and glide of this disc. It is a hyzer flip animal. Put this thing on a slight hyzer and crush it. Then watch it glide forever on a dead straight line.

Not the best disc for use in the wind. A little too flippy.

One of the first disc I ever bought. This is my go to disc in the woods. I throw this powered down about 40% on a touch of hyzer and this baby cruises dead straight . I can put a little more on her and get a late turn with a right fade . I can go on and on . This disc does everything for me and I would say give it shot , you might like it !

Found this one off in the weeds with no name and number. At the time it was new and fresh and flew pretty true to the numbers. It has a ton of glide and was the first disc that I could almost touch 350 with but not quite predictably.

The tournament plastic beat in fast though. After one or two good tree whacks it lost most of its fade and I stopped trusting it as much. Later I learned to control its flippiness better with hyzer and/or height and I was starting to really get some magic long distance s-curves around trees and 300ft hyzerflip tunnel shots.

I would definitely recommend this disc to a beginner looking to step up past their fairway drivers, it has a lot to offer and a lot to teach. Hopefully they make more sometime soon because I'd like to find another one maybe in a tougher plastic.

What a great disc. It flies so well and I love that it has a higher turn than fade.

171 grams in Tournament plastic: So this was actually my very fist disc out of the Westside line up and man was I impressed. For a 9 speed slightly understable fairway driver it is perfect and become one of my go to fairway drivers. The disc is slightly domy of course especially with the glide rating of 6 which is about accurate same with the other ratings given to this disc. I'm not sure if this is a disc I would recommend to a beginner but for someone who has learned to properly throw and not a beginner anymore, than this is a great fairway driver for you to try for sure! I definitely want to get more Westside discs now especially once I learned that Westside, Dynamic Discs, and Latitude 64 are all made in the same place and these 3 brands have quickly became my favorite brands.

The Hatchet is a great first-driver type of disc. A VIP Hatchet out of the box at max weight will hyzer flip and turn at 300 feet of power, so it's nothing to get the Hatchet going down the fairway, and the glide only helps.Once you're ready to learn a BH roller, the Hatchet will be your best friend, crazy easy to get it down and finish right. I bag one for this, standstill shots I want some juice on, uphill hyzerflips, and easy turnover lines. I give it four stars because there is a ceiling on the Hatchets effectiveness, not a chance I'm breaking it out in any headwind, and too much power and any OAT whatsoever will send this puppy burning into the earth. Definitely more understable than the numbers would lead you to believe, but as mentioned, if you want your first distance driver, or you need an easy roller/hyzerflip disc, give the Hatchet a whirl!

About 3 months ago I tore the meniscus in my left knee trying to learn to throw RHFH, and now I can't throw RHFH until I get that fixed. :(. With a knee brace, I can still fling it backhand pretty good, so what to do about those drives that need to go right?

I picked up the Hatchet to try as my longer flippy control driver (I bag the Underworld and Maverick for shorter shots that go right), and it was competing with a GStar Sidewinder as the long turnover disc.  I feel like this disc has more turn and less fade than the Sidewinder, it also comes out of my hand better and I love the Tournament plastic.  Hyzer flip to flat for tunnel shots and high turnovers that go about 300 - 320 feet fading right about 50 feet on a bit S curve are the shots I use this disc for.  I don't have a good roller game, but if you have that in your bag, the Hatchet would probably make a very effective roller disc, especially with a low ceiling where you have to get it down quick.

The Hatchet is an excellent hyzerflip Tunnel Shot disc! I learned how to Hyzerflip with The Hatchet and usually recommend it for newer throwers who start to outgrow their Leopards.

This disc has been a utility disc in my bag for years now (I have others that will do the job). the Hatchet is very true to its numbers and is a very consistent disc. The tournament plastic gives the disc a great feel in and out of the hand. The disc will keep its flight with whatever angle you put the disc on.

I had this disc in my bag for months (having not had a chance to field test it) before finally giving it a go in a round where I had screwed up enough to want to test a few discs.  Boy, am I GLAD I DID!  Messing up in that round led to me discovering one of the best flying discs in my arsenal!  Where do I start? First of all, for me the Hatchet is true to it's numbers in every respect (9/6/-2/1). I should note that the flight numbers on my disc are actually 9/6/-2/2, and these numbers are still accurate, but more for a throw with a little less power (maybe 70% for me)  When thrown with a flat release and 80% power, the disc anhyzers slightly at the start (-2) and then slowly flattens out for a long glide (6) before fading gently at the end (1).  If thrown with slightly more power the numbers give it more of a straight flight, with the numbers reflecting more of a 9/6/-1/1.  If thrown with full power, I can get a controlled anhyzer flight that stays in the air for an amazingly long time.
And WOW!  Does this disc ever glide!!  There are times when I'm not sure if it will EVER come down!  I have birdied holes with this disc that I never came close with my previous disc choices. I have thrown this disc easily 30-40' further than the discs it has replaced.  On a good day, I can get it upwards of 340', which is a great thrown for my 54 year old arm!  Honestly, the hardest part of throwing this disc for me is trying not to throw it too far!  I use it often on long wooded holes where accuracy and distance are needed, and the disc never fails me. Once you realize what it can do, it becomes a shot shaping tool you that will never leave your bag.
The Tournament plastic feels great in the hand as is very durable.  Despite being only a 9 speed, this may very well be the longest flying disc in my bag.  The Hatchet is a very easy disc to throw and will definitely shave strokes from your game. Give one a try!  You won't regret it.

I had this disc in my bag for the first 6mo-1yr that I started playing disc golf, and I am very fortunate I did. In short, the hatchet just glides forever. I had some of my longest drives early on with the hatchet. I found this disc got away from me when trying to throw it flat, but it was integral in helping me learn how to throw anhyzers that pan the entire way and hyzerflip to flat shots. If you’re a beginner, definitely bag this disc and don’t look back.

Just started throwing backhand and this is my favorite driver! I am able to throw it very straight about 275. I am able to release it on a hyzer and it flips to flat and stays straight for a long time. This is the only driver I really use backhand I would recommend it for any beginner.

I have owned this disc for about a month. I really wanted to like this disc, but when I throw this disc hyzer (RHBH) it goes straight for a second, and then turns and burns right. I have had a couple good shots with this disc, but more bad shots than good ones. Tthis disc has much more turn than advertised, and I rarely ever see this disc fade. Will update my review if I find a way to throw this disc. =)

The Hatchet is a very temperamental disc that may be right for others but it just didn't suit me. I usually prefer understable fairway drivers but the Hatchet just couldn't quite make my bag. For me, the disc would either never come out of it's break (like a -4/1) or would not enter into it's break (like a -.5/2). With the disparity between these sets of numbers, you can imagine how the disc could really mess up your drive! Some of this could be on me as the thrower but others I have talked to have agreed about it.

For lower arm speeds or people just starting out, the hatchet might be a great disc as it does have a nice glide (I just never knew where the glide would take me!). The plastic (as always) feels great and is a nice balance of tacky and smooth. I have CRUSHED a couple trees on errant shots and the plastic barely has any marks. The disc will last a long time

I really wanted to like this disc. I am a huge Westside thrower, the numbers looked up my alley and the stamp is awesome. It just didn't work for me. Hope it works for you

Easy to throw, glidey, and comfortable in the hand. For wooded courses, this thing cuts through the trees. (See what I did there?) This thing has a really reliable turn and fade to it. I promise it will fight back, don't be afraid to rip on it. But it will absolutely take a right turn along the way if you lean into the shot. I've found this a great straight disc for low ceiling shots in the woods too, especially because of how easy it is to rip on this thing with how great it feels in the hand. If anyone is new to Westside, or trilogy in general, the tournament plastic is absolutely worth it. Do yourself a favor and snag one in tournament!

Ah, the Hatchet. This disc was clearly intended to make people think, "Oh, this is a Valkyrie with 2 more glide. It must be better." In reality, it's more like a Sidewinder. A lot of amateur players will indeed get significantly more glide out of a Hatchet than a Valkyrie, but that's down to the fact that it's much easier to get a Hatchet to flip up to flat and ride. I'm not hating on the Hatchet, but it's much more understable than advertised. That makes it very easy for slower arms to get huge distance out of this disc, and it means that you can easily get straight as an arrow hyzer flips if you hit it with just the right amount of power. But it also means that big arms will find this disc useless. I'd say that if you can throw a Valkyrie over 400 feet then you probably don't want a Hatchet for anything besides rollers. If you throw a Valkyrie more like 300 feet though, look into this disc because it might just fly that extra 10 or 20 feet more than the Valkyrie for you, and the first time you get the smooth as butter hyzer flip juuuust right you'll be hooked on the Hatchet. It's definitely a fun disc to throw, if nothing else.

I like the Hatchet and bag it as my understable control driver. Not as flippy as I found the Underworld to be.

Great for powered down tunnel shots, hyzer flips, anny's, and tailwind drives. Avoid headwinds.

Thin and comfortable in the hand, just a slight dome. I would think most everyone could throw this.

    Give it a try!

As a fairly new player I found the hatchet to be perfect for me.  At 300' power my 175g TP Hatchet  almost perfectly neutral. I am currently working on correcting my form and with a 1 step throw am out driving the rest of my bag even using an x step. This is my first Westside disc and I love both the feel and durability of my Hatchet.

If you have been playing  more than 3-4 months and can throw a putter or mid flat and not get wobble the Hatchet will be a great addition to your bag.

I'm up in the air about this TP Hatchet but the VIP is beginning to work out better. I use the Hatchet for thumbers, tailwind bombs, anny bombs and rollers. It has many uses in my bag. Just wish I was more consistent with my throws.

    The Westside Valkyrie?

As a huge fan of Westside Discs, I had to try the Hatchet. Honestly, going in, I didn't think it had a shot at making my bag..and I was correct...but what the Hatchet does, it does well. First off, Westside plastic, as with all Trilogy discs, is superb. Grippy and durable in all blends, you really can't go wrong with Trilogy plastic.

The Hatchet, thrown flat and at power for me, had quite a large amount of turn with a suprisingly decent fade. I tried one forehand and torqued it over into a cut roller...not good. Next, I ripped out some sky anhyzers, and while the Hatchet did hold for a very long time, there was enough fade to almost turn it into a full-on flex shot. The more I threw it, the more I found the Hatchet coming out of my hand really, really clean. It's got good zip for a speed 9 type disc, though I would put it a little faster myself. For me, the Hatchet really shines on  power hyzer flips. it will flip to flat, get a little turn, and a little fade, with a ton of glide. I was getting the Hatchet just as far, and in some case farther, than my PDs. Great disc for all skill levels.

Honestly the only thing thats keeping this disc from being 5 stars is the glide.  Personally I dont want that much glide in a disc like this.  The Hatchet is great for what it is:  a glide monster that just goes straight.  The slightest bit of wind will flip this disc over though.  Just turns and burns.  When new it flights some nice tight S lines.  As it beats in it loses some of its fade before getting any more turn to its flight.  I'd compare the Hatchet a more durable Pro Valkyrie with more glide.  I have a few Hatchets that I use for practicing in the field, but they got pulled out of my bag and replaced with Valkyries.

I don't think this hatchet is a -2 turn. I have to Anheuser the crap out of it to get any unstable flights. It's a good disc just think the numbers are wrong.

The Hatchet is currently my favorite backhand driver. This disc provides easy distance with nice smooth throws. It has a very comfortable thin rim, and I can usually get as much distance out of it as I can a thicker rim distance driver. When I throw the Hatchet with a slight hyzer it flips up and just glides perfectly straight. At a slight anhyzer angle it holds the line and continues right until nearly the end of the flight. Anytime I make a backhand drive where I need to keep straight, or turn off slightly right through the trees, I use the Hatchet. I think the fact that it has the Hatchet stamp on it, scares the trees away and helps you make it through trees more often.

The Westside Hatchet is pretty similar in flight to the Discraft Heat, but I like the feel of Westside Tournament plastic better than Elite Z. This is a great disc for newer players and anyone who just likes a nice long straight flight.

Perfect first driver for all skill levels.

           Pros

    1. Great natural S with minimum effort.
    2. Very versatile (i.e. Thumbers, Rollers, turnover shots)
    3. Nice tacky feel.

            Con

    1. Once armspeed develops this disc can easily get away from you.
    2. Not recommended for advanced players that already have a control driver.

It's a Valkyrie through and through, but if you're a fan of Trilogy plastics this disc is wonderful.

This disc is a great disc depedning on the needs of the course. I find myself using this disc for varying shots from long hyzer flips to long gentle turnover shots that finish right to big rollers that go for days. I took this disc out of my bag for a while as I wasn't confident with my control or my roller but I have decided to put it back in and really work those areas of my game and now the disc comes out more than it ever did before. Great disc.
