The D4 is a slightly understable distance driver in the Prodigy line. This disc is an amazingly far distance driver for intermediate players, and disc golfers with moderate arm speed. Even beginners and amateurs will have moments where they can make this disc sail. The glide this disc offers is excellent and it has a very limited end-of-flight fade. The D4 has a soft beveled rim that allows for a smoother, more comfortable release. Some credit the longer flight to the more efficient inner rim. This disc, like the other drivers in the Prodigy line, has very similar dimensions and the same rim width (2.3 cm). By getting used to similar feeling discs that react differently, disc golfers should be able to throw more consistently and can choose their specific distance driver based on the shot they face.

This disc will fly to the moon and back and still have some glide left if thrown correctly. My domey, pop top 400G D4 just might have my distance record. I've hit 550 with this thing. Ridiculous flight. Power arms beware, this will need a hyzer release or a high flat nose down release at full power because it will turn and burn if you're not careful. Needs height for the big turn. This disc may be finicky but it's an easy 5* for what it's used for and that's dropping calm condition/tailwind hyzer release/high flat release bombs. Feels fantastic in 400G.

Let me say that the plastic was fantastic. I think D3 may have been more what I was looking for this was little more understable than I expected but still a great disc!

This was the first hight speed disc that I could throw consistently over 300 with maxing out around 350-360 on wide open shots when you can flip it over with a little hyzer or just let the natural right turn and glide. I have the disc in the 400G 167 grams and throw RHBH. Once my arm speed got a little faster, I don't seem to throw it as far, but it could be that the disc is more beaten in. I got this disc and Hades 173 at the same time. I struggled with the Hades at first and only threw the D4, but as my arm speed got faster the Hades took this discs spot in my bag. My 13 year old son throws RHFH and gets a lot of control and distance with the lower speed D4. I recommend this disc for anyone looking to increase their distance as it is very forgiving. Also, good for forehand

To be honest, I bought one of these a while ago used because I liked the stamp on it. I did not know what this disc was capable of when I bought it, but man was I happy. The first disc I had of this was in 400G plastic at 168 grams. I was quickly able to throw this disc close to max distance for me because of the fact I could put it on anhyzer and let it grab some extra distance on the wide pan. Also, when I took some power off of the disc, it would go pretty straight with slight turn and slight fade. Unfortunately, I lost this disc and bought another at 175 grams in the same plastic only to get the old one back later through a local dropbox. I was glad I ended up getting another one though because it flies different for me. While the lighter one seemed a more traditional line for the flight numbers on this disc, the heavier one seems to fly more overstable. Only in headwinds does it turn over and acts more understable. Even though it does not follow traditional flight, I still throw the heavier D4 a lot through gaps needing a fast, overstable finish because it is so reliable for me. In conclusion, I recommend this disc to anyone needing a reliable disc. At lighter weights, it will be more understable and the heavier version is not nearly as understable in my experience.

*Note about me as a player to help this review be most clear: I am 'intermediate" skill level, usually drive around 275 +/- 25 feet. I throw right handed. Hopefully this allows you to compare to yourself better and please keep in mind what point of view my comments are coming from.

This disc is not one that I would trust to throw in a tough spot/when I needed to hit a gap. It is fun to use on an open hole where there is room for mistake. With a wide rim, I don't find this to be the most comfortable disc in the hand. When thrown well, I get the best distance out of this driver. I used to be able to throw it FH on a dime, but am transitioning away from throwing FH. When thrown backhand WELL, it is a great flying disc. It stays up for a long time and can go far. For me, though, that doesn't happen consistently enough to throw it all the time.

If you like slightly understable max distance discs, this falls in the same lap as Katanas, Terns, Shrykes, etc. I had a domey D4 that glided seemingly for days when given good power. As some people had already mentioned, this disc can get finicky in any wind conditions that aren't pleasant. When thrown in a tailwind, this disc can go far distances when given committed power. As for its whole flight pattern, I found this disc very straight with more initial fade than advertised due to the higher PLH and very domey characteristics. I'll stick with my cycled Destroyers and Terns for now.

The D4 has become my preferred maximum distance driver for long straight shots.  I also use a Tern, which gets about the same distance, but is broken in so the flight is not as consistent as it used to be.  Both discs will turn over in a head wind or with too much torque so the release has to be just right.  A nice flat release should result in long glide the D4 is known for.  The fade is not as drastic as other discs this speed.

Ive been trying to cover this slot in my bag for a long time. BINGO. This is the turning driver of your dreams. I love the way it feels in the hand. For a large rim, its very accessible. RHBH I use it for drives I want to turn mostly, and then fade a touch back. If its an open field, and tailwind/no wind. Im choosing this most of the time, even over my Destroyers

I used to throw Terns as my maximum distance driver, but either those beat in or more likely the increases I've gotten in power have made them too flippy. I'd say that the D4 is remarkably long. Longer than anything else in my bag. The D4 is also super glidey. My other prodigy discs are an F1, M1, and an H3 that I gave away. These are all very overstable discs. I regret not having tried Prodigy's other discs out, because the D4 is Super Long. The flight for me is similar to the Tern, it turns some and fades back but not all the way back to the aim point. In a headwind, even slight, it doesn't want to fade back, it will fade back a little but not a lot. My terns would only keep turning over in any headwind. So it's more stable than an Innova Tern, and did I mention that it's longer. Very long. Not a great control driver, but if you want distance and have moderate power, the D4 is money in the bank.

The old 400S, was my go-to. The "S" was removed to avoid confusuon from the G, so old "S" molds are "G" molds, just older.

I now throw 400G and S D4 (174/175) and they are BOMBERS! The S mold is a little too under stable for me right now. I am working on mazing out distance with my drivers and fairways. I spent this year and last throwing backhand mids and putters and have climbed my way to under stable drivers now.

This disc is great for the up and coming arms. The other day I threw on a straight away elevated hole (360) and left it right under 400 feet with my S. The next hole (375) I took the 400G out and cranked it over a couple of spruce pines and finished about 35 feet past the pin (straight up hill).... you will surprise yourself if you commit to a disc and just keep throwing!

Great beginner disc! Great roller for the touring pro and an awesome disc to shape drives or get maximum distance for anyone in between!

I never had a roller disc in my bag until I picked up a D4 I practiced with it a few times and got the hang of it. Now I know I have a very predictable roller in my bag and will not be taking it out anytime soon.

This disc is a bomber! The understability of this disc makes it the perfect tailwind disc in my opinion. I have 2 400G D4's. One is 168 grams and is very flippy. I'll throw this disc for maximum distance drives during stiff tailwinds. I can release it on a hyzer angle and the disc will flip to flap, turn right, and then fade back to the left. I have thrown this disc as far as 440 feet. The other D4 is 174 grams. This one is much less flippy. I will use this disc for calm maximum distance shots off the tee. If I throw this disc on a hyzer, it will not turn as hard as if I were to throw it flat.

A lot of people may think it's crazy, but I also really like to forehand the 174 gram D4, especially in tailwinds. But, this is coming from someone who loves to forehand understable discs because it seems like there's less work involved. Bottom line: definitely try this disc out sometime!

I have had my 168g 400G D4 for a few months and can finally write an educated review of this disc. It falls pretty well exactly like the flight numbers say... Understable. On a full power drive thrown flat it will have alot of HST and never come back (unless you have some tail wind). This disc can reach 400+ with little effort. Will flip to strait, show some HST, and then fade back like a good little Prodigy disc. I have gotten some of my longest throws with this disc, but wont throw it if its really windy at all.

Got a slightly used first-run D4 in 400S plastic.  Plastic feels great.  Color is bright green, and sometimes matches the ground, so I had to watch carefully where it went when I took it onto the course.

The D4 is a decent disc.  It is not as understable nor does it have as much glide as its flight numbers suggest.  For those with the arm, it'll be a good bit like a Champion Tern.  For me and my noodle arm, it was a bit more overstable for me than my Terns (Champ and Star), with comparable distance.  It will be a good downhill/tailwind disc for my all-Prodigy bag.

I got this disc due to the similar flight numbers as my Innova Champion Tern. I find that when I throw this RHFH it does have quite a bit of turn. It will start making the turn within 50-100 feet off the tee, and then fade hard back to the right. It's fade is by rating, the same as my Tern, but I find it just depends on the amount of force I throw it with. A little harder, and it fades more, not so hard, and the fade isn't as bad. I have really come to like this disc off the tee, and use it more than my other high speed drivers.

Alright, the Prodigy D4.  I got it to maximize distance, and it's a long flying disc, but I never got max D more reliably with it compared to the Boss, and you need a lot of fairway space to work with.  I personally don't think this disc is that practical for the majority of players.  However, I know some really nice guys who throw Prodigy, so I'm going to try to focus on some positives:

    • Flies like a worn in Destroyer with a tad extra glide and reliable fade at the end.
    • Can be thrown on long hyzer flip lines to finish with a nice big fun skip.
    • Probably the worst Prodigy distance driver sorreee

173g 400g in light blue. I use this disc backhand only and for distances around 300 feet that require dog leg right with a lot of torque. Also use it for double dog legs to the right with minimum torque to get a straight fade at the end.

Now that I've had some time to get used to this disc and have it break in a little bit, I am comfortable giving it a review now. For starters, this is one of the best feeling high speed discs that I have gotten my hands on. It does not feel like the rim is actually that wide when gripped. My main function for this disc are those holes where you just have to bomb something. I find the D4 excels for this, by far one of the discs I can get out the farthest. After being able to break this thing in, when ripped on a slight hyzer to flat, it will flip up and just glide and glide and glide some more with just subtle fade on the very end of the flight. With a proper rip, I see this flat almost every time. One downfall to it though is that I find the D4 is a bit more nose sensitive than other discs. If that nose goes up, there goes your noob hyzer shot with no turn at all but that glide puts it out farther and deeper in the rough. Of course all of this is based on the proto version so First Run or regular ran may be slightly different.
