The Opto Explorer is a very good OS fairway driver. It provides decent glide and distance and very good control, both forehand and backhand. On backhand flat throws it will give a long straight flight before a strong but still penetrating fade. Forehands generally give a nice turn and fade, making for a good carving S flight.  For me its basically a Teebird in Trilogy plastic, which is great cuz I've always liked Trilogy plastics a bit better than Innova plastic. Opto feels a bit more grippy than Champion.

Solid disc. I like to forehand it for straight shots. Feels true to its numbers. Definitely recommend if you want something that doesn't get overpowered too easily and still gets decent glide.

The explorer has been a staple in my bag since I started playing disc golf. A 7 speed rim is very comfortable in my hand, and it gives me clean releases every time I throw it.

Thrown flat with power it will get a gentle drift before having a reliable fade, leading to an overall straight flight with a slight finish. The disc gets relatively little ground play, making it accurate when it lands. Thrown on anhyzer, it holds the angle for about half of the flight before it begins to fade out, and thrown on hyzer, it will hold the angle for the whole flight with a slight stand up in the middle.

(Opto Plastic) Not as over stable as a champion Teebird. Definitely a disc you can't go wrong with, and if you want a bit more stability, then I'd try the Dynamic Disc Evader.

Very nice fairway driver. Comfortable in the hand, and has a very wide range of shot potential. I have 2 in opto plastic and one is on the flippier side and glides very straight and far, up to 375 or so, while my 2nd one is more stable and does not fly as far but can fight some wind. This disc is on the glidey side of fairway drivers so it can be touchy but is excellent for smooth drives that can be shaped into many lines while having a consistent fade at the end

I always have a couple explorers in my bag, each in different stages of wear. This is the perfect fairway driver for intermediate players. It will fly mostly straight with moderate arm speed with a slight fade at the end. It also holds an anhyzer line well for most of the flight. Overall just a great, dependable disc.

This disc will fly exactly how you power it. It's a scalpel for fairway shots. I have birdied more holes with this than any other disc in my bag. This is a a multitool on the course. Off the tee for mid range holes, tight fairways, upshots and approach shots, it does it all.
I love this disc. And it fades perfectly.

True to it's numbers, this puppy goes straight with some torque, and a reliable fade. I went a long time without a disc like this in my bag and it was a huge mistake. Anytime there's danger on the right side of the fairway and I need a straight shot, I'll go to the explorer. Highly recommended to all!

I have three explorers and all of them fly exactly the same, very straight and lands almost exactly where you release it. It is a very good disc for fairway and even some longer range drives. This is my go to disc for almost every hole that is 200-250 feet. Sometimes I even under estimate how far this disc can fly. It is very good for forehand or backhand shots. Overall, it is very friendly to people with a softer arm and it can also be used for a strong arm. 10/10 disc

If you are looking for a dependable and consistent fairway driver, you have found it. The Explorer is a workhorse fairway that isn't leaving my bag. Why? I'll explain.

    Pros:
The disc has a comfortable feel in the hand. It's typically has a slight dome in Gold or Opto plastic although, like any disc, there can be flat or domey exceptions. I personally love the grip that Opto provides and without any extra flashing on the rim. Once beat in, these work great for swooping anhyzer flex shots. I bag several in different states of wear for this reason.

    Cons:
I primarily use this for backhand as I like flat topped discs for forehand shots. However, that is where the Opto-X Explorer comes in! Specifically the Emerson Keith version, it is flat and slightly more stable compliment (to Opto, Gold, etc) that holds up to 20 mph gusts. Forehands feel much better with it's flat top, though it won't be my farthest forehand choice, but it will certainly fly consistent when I reach for it.

I currently bag three Explorers, an Opto (main stable choice), Opto "glimmer" (flat and beat in), and Opto-X (overstable and forehands). With these I find myself not reaching for other fairway drivers unless it's a niche tunnel shot or large turnover. If you're looking for that reliable fairway to use day after day, give the Explorer a try.

My experience with the explorer seems to be very different from what a lot of other people have had. I bought an explorer expecting that straight to overstable flight like a teebird. However, I have found the explorer to be much straighter than other similar discs.

That straight flight, however, is not a drawback to the explorer. It makes it a very controllable disc. For me if I throw it with a little hyzer with some height it'll hold straight and fade slightly right at the end of the flight. If I throw it flat it'll turn slightly and may fade out depending on how high and how hard I throw it. I can even get a late turn if I throw it really hard on hyzer.

The explorer is a disc that I can get to do whatever I want and I really love that about it. It feels really comfortable in the hand, not too deep or shallow. Perfect for backhand. I haven't thrown it much on forehand, but when I have it hasn't quite impressed, but I'm still figuring it out.

Overall really recommend the explorer to people looking for a slightly straighter teebird type disc. It's super controllable and very fun to throw

I've thrown Explorers in multiple plastics, and as with all Trilogy discs, each plastic has a significantly different flight.  Gold line Explorers start out straight but become quite understable once beaten in.  Thrown full power, they can become rollers very quickly.  However, for newer players who are ready for drivers, a Gold line Explorer will be a reliable workhorse.

Opto Explorers are the quintessential workhorse fairway driver for the average player.  Out of the box, they offer a nice glidey straight-to-fade flight even with full power.  These will beat in to become somewhat understable but will not hold a turn for the enture duration of the flight.

Opto-X Explorers are perfect for the high-power throwers.  Out of the box, my Opto-X Explorer (Emerson Team Series 1 2020) flew more like a Firebird than a Teebird, but beat into one of the straightest drivers I've ever thrown.  On a 400' line, it flips very slightly if at all before a light fade at the end.

There is an Explorer out there for almost every disc golfer.  Start with Gold line, and move up to Opto and Opto-X as your power develops.  You can even bag multiple Explorers to fill several slots in your bag depending on power.  In any case, it's a comfortable disc that can be made to hold nearly any line.  It is comparable to a Teebird but is molded in much more comfortable plastic.

Someone down in the comments mentioned that the way you throw this disc is how it will fly, and that's been my experience too. I can't flip this to straight, it just follows the line you put it on. It can be a good thing, although a slight departure from what I'm used to having thrown Teebirds a bunch in the past. I think my full weight Opto is a touch more stable than the Teebirds I've thrown. It also has a bit more dome and kind of a sharp edge, not the biggest of deals but I like the feel of a Teebird more.

I'll also say out of the box I really didn't like it, very overstable. I had to beat it in before it flew the way I wanted it too. It's in a sweet spot now.

I don't mean to rip on the disc, I use it for one disc rounds every now and then and feel I can throw every shot. But given the choice between Teebird and Explorer I'd choose Teebird.

With a comfortable feel in the hand, the Explorer is one of my go-to discs. I currently bag three explorers. The Opto Explorer has more dome and a little less stability. I wouldn't throw it into a headwind, but the disc bombs nonetheless. A go-to disc in the woods as it is very straight and responsive to angles.

Great beginner disc, if you have a quicker arm. After some time, it grew on me and I liked throwing it a lot. The plastic is alright, with it being majorly effected when wet. I trust this disc on most of my 300-350 foot holes. It is a disc which gets stable overtime. I like also using this for forehands as it is quite overstable.

I've been throwing a teebird for years. My arm speed is a little lower than average so, it has been an overstable work horse for me. I picked up an Explorer as an extra and began throwing it more than the Teebird. It has more glide, a little turn when new and very controlled fade. I really like Opto plastic too.  Soft like innova star but durable like Champion. Great disc.

It's a Teebird with more glide and slightly less overstable. It's a 7 speed with the distance potential of a 9 speed, similar to a Saint but much more predictable and controllable for me. It will hold a nice flex without ending up in the adjacent town. Paired with a DD Felon, I'm really only throwing 2 fairway drivers now because they cover every shot for the distance. Flight is as dependable thrown forehand as it is backhand, and I've even been throwing it like I would a midrange for low, straight, forehand tunnel shots that need to finish slightly right. This is by far the best workhorse control driver I've ever used, and I'd recommend it to just about anyone except a true beginner. I highly recommend Opto plastic to ensure it doesn't become too flippy over time.

The absolute best fairway driver created. It's glidier (if that's a word) than the teebird, so it goes as far as most 9 speeds, but is also super controllable to throw within 300 feet. Highly recommend for anyone needed a disc to go straight with a nice finish, or slight flex shots.

I have this disc in Opto, Opto X, Opto Dye, and Opto Glitter. Out of that bunch, Opto is my go-to. It offers a flight true to the flight characteristics listed on the disc. Opto X dives a little harder into a hyzer finish than the standard Opto. That Opto X flight may hold more true over time as these discs recieved wear, but that has yet to be found.

As far as the disc itself, it feels good in the hand with just a little dome to the flight plate, and a rim width big enough to land the full first finger pad on without any excess. That comfort coupled with dependable straight flight with a brief hyzer finish (Opto plastic) makes this my go-to driver for backhands and some forehand shots. My arm speed is moderate, but I can really lay into this disc off a tee pad, or throw from a stand-still on the fairway and get good results. Highly recommended.

I had heard great things about this disc and about how it was a very straight flyer. I had gotten it to replace my Teebird, and since I love Trilogy plastics (and names) I decided to try the Explorer out. I found it to be much more understable than advertised in Opto plastic. It had at least one degree of high-speed turn straight out of the box. Maybe I just got an understable run, but I didn’t get much good use out of this disc.

Here is your TeeBird, Trilogy fans! I will say, every Explorer I have thrown starts a little less stable than a stock TeeBird, maybe closer to a TL. They hold this stability a long time and gradually work into a great flip-to-straight driver. These can cover a variety of shots, as all TB-clones do. Definitely my go-to fairway!

The explorer is a very great, straight flying, with a little fade to the left disc. I have come to find though with a high mile per hour headwind, it does act as if it had a slight bit of turn but very little. A little hyzer when throwing will fix that problem in the wind. Otherwise it is definitely one of my most favorite and most used fairway drivers. The main reasoning as to why is simply because of how I can throw it and no matter how hard I do, it'll fly straight with a nice fade to the left. The fade is very predictable and consistent. I also enjoy throwing this desk on straight shots go to the ground knowing that it'll fade just very slightly right next to the basket. The feel of this disk is definitely comfortable for me, in a lot of ways it feels kind of like a five speed mid range but that's just my opinion, overall though I would definitely Recommend this desk to those who are just starting to get a consistent form with a little more arm speed, beginner should never use anything more than a putter if anything nothing more than mid range until they've gotten more consistent with a higher arm speed.

The explorer really let me down I was super excited to acquire this desk after watching Ricky Wysocki smash the heck out of some holes in a couple of tournaments I was witnessing. The disc was supposed to be a better version of the Teebird which I previously enjoyed but this thing failed to meet those expectations with my experience with the disc it did not hold up well in the wind and also I couldn't get any nice flex shots that this Ricky fella was doing.  every time I use the desk it ended up dumping completely left and not doing me any good I could not get any distance out of this desk and I was really disappointed. eventually I ended up losing in a hole and didn't even bother to pick it up hopefully someone get some good use out of it as I did not enjoy it.

Like everyone else has said, this is a fantastic disc. It's got the same numbers as a Teebird but this thing glides further and has a more minimal fade.

It does tend to turn a bit in a headwind even with the Opto plastic. But with a bit of hyzer it fights just fine. Great disc.

Personally this disc is no different than a teebird in my opinion,it has great glide, good stability, and no turn, just like all teebirds do. So if you are looking for a disc exactly like a teebird, but you are trilogy sponsored,or something. Check out the explorer,it's basically a teebird. You'll love it.

I got an Explorer from Infinite in opto chameleon and have been playing with it steadily for the last month.  The disc was more stable than I thought brand new, but I have beat it in a bit and now it's a straight flying fairway driver that finishes hard left.  I have been tossing it forehand a few times and I can crank on it more without the fear of it turning over.  This is a fairway driver that can grow with you and I recommend grabbing one!

Have several in opto, a gold line, and couple opto-x. Updated 02/2022 to include gold-x.

    Opto:

Good glide, good distance. Slight turn after it kisses a tree a couple times. I have turned them over but usually my fault if it happens. Overall pretty reliable. Similar to my old innova teebird. Slightly less OS than the new DD Evader.

    Gold line:

All the glide! Has slight turn and slightly less finish than the opto, but otherwise pretty similar disc.

    X:

This is the one I bag as a slightly more OS compliment to my evaders. Reliably straight, it's not gonna turn any on you without a headwind and even then isn't going to burn out. Gets into its fade pretty early but it's a forward penetrating, glidey fade. Great version of the disc.

Gold-X: this is the best explorer and I'll fight anybody who disagrees! Seriously though, the glide on this is clearly better than other plastics for the explorer, which results in an extra 25-30ft of distance, consistently.

Bought this disc for my friend who is mostly a fh player. The explorer has worked great for his fh and he has even started to throw bh with it. The explorer is a straight flyer with minimal fade that can be thrown fh and bh. Its good for begginers and advanced players alike. The opto plastic has been a bit more os than the numbers suggest however this is probably due to his arm speed. Great disc!

As far as the profile of this disc, it has a smaller rim, as it is only a 7 speed fairway driver.  However, the ones that I have seen and thrown have a decent dome to them.  They feel very comfortable in the hand.  Because of the dome of the disc, it feels a little faster than a 7 speed.

As for the flight, this is a great disc, especially once you work it in a bit.  I use this for shots within 325-350.  The name of the game for this disc is control.  This disc will hold a turnover, hyzer, or go dead straight if you want it to.  For beginners, this might be a bit overstable out of the box, but as stated previously, once you beat it in a little, it will hold whatever angle you want.  I do not use this disc a lot for forehand shots, but when I do, this disc is good for those dead straight shots that you just need a little fade out of.  I use this disc mostly in the woods where I need to shape shots or just get that dead straight flight.  This is probably the most controllable and predictable disc in my bag.  I would recommend it to anybody who is looking for a controllable fairway driver.

My absolute go-to driver!  This disc will hold whatever line you put it on with a small but dependable fade.  This rim is very comfortable for my forehand and backhand.  I throw this disc about 280' on both forehand and backhand, on the backhand I get almost no flip and a slight fade and on forehand, I get a bit of turn with slight fade as well...  For being listed as what most people would call overstable, it lands rather soft in my opinion, don't get me wrong, it still skips but not as far as I was expecting!  I think that everyone that has decent form and range should try this disc, it has definitely changed my game and I always make sure I have 2-3 backups in my car!  Haven't tried the opto-x but I see that disc making it into my favorite forehand disc in the near future!

I was so excited to try this out. On my first hole with this disc it disappeared spent some time looking for it but never found it.  In the open field during a warm up it was doing great with good distance and a nice release. It also felt comfortable in the hand but non the less it is lost to the woods.

This is my favorite fairway driver. I bag 2-3 and use it for a majority of my shots. I like how this disc will do exactly what you want, a straight flyer, it will turnover and hold the anhyzer, or put on a hyzer will keep the line with a soft fade. Overall a great disc for beginners and advanced players.

My most-purchased disc--I do hope I stop losing my Explorers, but even if I do, I'll keep buying them. I can get it out to about 330 feet before it starts fading with a nice hop at the end. It's nearly impossible to turnover unless you've got a pretty serious arm. But for me, I can count on it to take a pretty hefty throw and always finish left. They straighten out (as all discs do) as they get beat in, however, it maintains its consistency even as its flight gradually changes. It's a great disc, and it earns my trust immediately every time. My Opto Explorer is my workhorse. You won't be disappointed.

This disc and I got off to a rocky start. It was one of those discs that flies so straight that it really shows off any angle of release mistakes and punishes them pretty badly. If I threw it with just a little too much hyzer, it held the hyzer the entire time instead of flipping just a little bit. If I threw it too flat, it would flip ever so slightly and then glide wide right without ever fading back. The flight numbers deceived me too as I always expected a stronger fade than what it actually has.

Eventually I stopped throwing the disc the way I should it should be thrown and started throwing it the way it needed to be thrown. I haven't taken it out of my bag since. My opto has just the barest hint of turn with more of a stall at the end of it's flight than any true fade. I am currently bagging 3. 2 Opto and 1 Opto X. The opto X is significantly more stable than the normal optos, as well as being board flat on top. It's really nice getting multiple flight lines out of a single mold.

The Explorer has a nice reliable flight that I am able to keep low and away from hanging branches on wooded holes.  I do not have tons of arm strength, but if I go for power it has a little bit of turn to it before coming back.  "Normal" throws result in a straight flight with just a little fade.  The Explorer can do many different things well and is not just in the bag for a single purpose.

Excellent fairway driver for pretty much all shot shapes. Fairly stable to begin with but beats up into a disc that can hold any angle for seemingly forever. My go-to driver for almost every tee shot on long woods courses. And it flies very nearly as far as some 12+ speed drivers I have in my bag.

Once you develop some arm speed, I think this is a great disc. It flies nice and straight and has great glide until the end where it will slowly fade out. If you power this disc down a little, it makes for a decent utility disc where needing some harder fade comes in handy (if you don’t already own something like a Firebird, which, if you’re a beginner, you probably don’t but should). I gave it four stars because my Leopard3 is my go-to (and gets better distance) and my Firebird is a better utility disc all around.

This is a very straight fairway driver that is more forgiving than other fairway drivers. It allows a larger margin of error with minimal punishment. I would give it the same speed as a high speed midrange.

The Explorer is my go-to fairway driver. The Opto plastic and the rim profile feel great in my hand. I use it off the tee on touchy par 3's where I need a nice straight start with lots of glide and then a subtle hyzer finish. It does what I want pretty much every time. If I just so happen to make a mistake and throw it a little too hard, it never flips over on me and will just go more straight before finishing back left. The Explorer is very forgiving in that sense. That extra glide I get from it is why I give it a 6 glide rather than a 5. it just SOARS. I also like to use it on little forehand upshots over 100 ft. It sits quite nicely and doesn't skip too much on those forehand shots. I've almost had 3 aces with this disc: One almost skipped in to the basket on a 265 ft par 3, the other 2 hit chains on a short 212 ft par 3 that needed a rainbow hyzer about 70 ft high around a grouping of trees. With the Explorer, one of those will go in soon!

It's basically a Teebird. Great feel in hand, glidey, but fights wind. Soft and controlable fade, but can handle power. This is one of those simple discs. You can throw it far and straight, yet hard.

I love it FH on like 50% power for 300 ft straight forehand shots as well.

If you want a Teebird alternative, this is the best one in my opinion!

It is exactly what it is supposed to be- a stable fairway with good glide. It is good for forehands and backhands. Workhorse. It is a consistent mold with a consistent dome shape. It has consistent flights in different wind conditions.

Update. I have moved this down one star b/c the concave rim feels less comfortable to me now that I have experience with more brands and molds.

I've been cycling through more discs than I'd like to admit lately, but I have to say this is probably my favorite one.  This disc comes through with great shots time and time again.  I go the opto plastic and it felt great in my hands.  I had a Teebird3 before, but this one feels more sturdy in my hands.  I only carry 4-5 discs, and this one has locked down the fairway driver slot.

New favorite fairway driver here. This disc feels identical to a Teebird, it's just a touch less stable and has a touch more glide. I can rip on this at full power and it still goes straight city, whereas my other favorite fairway (FD) always runs the risk of turning a bit. I'm amazed at how far the Explorer travels. More often than not I use it for control and hitting a gap rather than distance, but it so often ends up pin high on shots I didn't intend for. It handles moderate headwind fine, in anything more than a 15 mph wind it will turn. The fade is very reliable, so it will come back. Profile wise, I wish these were flatter for sidearm. It's not super domey by any stretch, but it does have a bit of dome. Feels great backhand, just a bit weird sidearm.

I think the flight rating sum up the disc perfectly. Though like all trilogy plastic, it beats in very quickly and soon becomes a super straight fairway driver similar to a new discmania fd.

This is a very great 7 speed fairway driver offered by L64. I have seen some comparisions to a teebird or TL and I have only thrown a Teebird3 before so I can't make that comparison. But I have thrown a Legacy Rival and that was a workhose solid  staple of my bag till I lost it. I got an explorer to replace it and to try it out from the review I had seen. It is as advertised and flies true to the flight numbers, maybe with just a little more glide. I do enjoy a good fairway that I can really push around 350 and I can get this there and its very straight, I will throw it hard and flat and it will turn just ever so slightly for a small amount of time and then when it slows down it has a very controlled forward penetrating fade. If you throw with slight hyzer it will ride the hyzer line and maybe flip up just a tad before going back down. With anhyzer it will hold it for a little ways and then gently flex out and land. Highly recommend this disc.

Straight to fade is the name of the game, and no other fairway driver in the L64 line-up can perform that shot as well as the Explorer. It has an insane amount of glide and stability to match it, in which it will hold a lot of great lines so long as you commit to the shot. As far as comparisons, all I can say is that if the Teebird and the TL had a baby, it would be the Explorer. Star and Champ Teebirds are actually pretty stable when new, and you either have to really get on it or throw on a slight anhyzer to get a full flight. TL’s on the other hand can sometimes drift right and never come back, specially in headwinds. So now imagine something between these two, where you throw it hard and flat and you maaaaaybe get some turn and always get a baby fade to finish. Thrown on hzyer, its gonna hold that hyzer. Thrown on an anny, it’ll hold that anny and slowly pan to flat before hitting the ground. I’ve talked to a couple pros bagging this disc, and they use it for their main fairway up to 380-400ft because it’s so controllable and reliable. In other words, check em out!

The explorer is such a great disc. I have played so many rounds where I end up leaning on this disc to get me from the pad to the fairway/green. This disc flies incredibly straight for me. If you are here, I would imagine you have already heard great things about this disc and you should believe it. If you are new to the game this is a good disc if you have developed your throw a decent amount. If you haven't it will probably hook left for you, but it is a good disc to develop your game with and see your arm speed improve.

I can't say enough good about this disc in both opto and opto x plastic.  Brand new, in opto this disc will be dead straight with a reliable late fade.  Thrown hard and flat it will turn slightly to the right and fade back left finishing pretty straight.   As it breaks in it becomes a great disc for controlled hyzer flips and smooth turnovers.  This is a fantastic disc to cycle, I bag 2 to 4 at a time in opto plastic.  Also great for flip up hyzers, this thing will carry a surprisingly long way for a relatively slow disc.

The opto x plastic is a lot stiffer than the regular opto and noticeably more overstable.  I've found that by layering this disc in both opto and opto x plastic I have the ability to cover all necessary fairway shots with one mold.  I carry 2 in opto x.  These are great for flex shots and windy days when the opto explorer would be pushed around

The Explorer is the closest disc in the Trilogy lineup to a teebird. Other discs have a similar flight, but everything about this disc feels like a champion teebird. With that being said, you can infer that disc disc has an excellent hand feel with a small rim, and an excellent stable to overstable flight path. This disc would serve any experienced player for their straight fairway slot, and would make and excellent first time driver for newer players.

Perfect disc for what the numbers say it is, an overstable control driver. I have a Gold and an Opto Explorer. The Gold is great for straight fairway shots with no turn and a fade at the end, especially low line ones, and the Opto is great for "C" shots where it just holds a soft hyzer the entire way. I can also throw the Opto on high hyzers, almost like a spike hyzer, to get around/over just about anything. Great overstable compliment to the Maverick. Compared to a Convict, the Explorer is slower and more stable. The Convict can turn around objects and fade back around, but the Explorer is better for shots with no lateral movement before the fade. Fits right between the Convict and the Criminal for me.

This disc throws like a glidier teebird.

When thrown flat, it flies very straight, it glides very far, and it has moderate fade at the end.

Expect this disc to go very far when thrown hard and flat.  It will have a slight S-turn to it.

When thrown hyzer, it holds the angle with the slightest flip.

I liked them a lot, and they fly nicely from 300 - 330 feet.  Very controllable.

I picked up two of these first run Explorers both in lucid and both the same weight and they flew completely differently. One of them would hold a nice glidey hyzer line and go forever down the fairway, and the other had some monster fade and dumped left almost instantly. I am sure that this has nothing to do with my form because I had someone else throw these discs and they had the same result. I assume the first disc I explained is what it is supposed to be, and if that is the case then this is truly a great disc. The only problems I have are the apparent inconsistencies in flight and the deep rim. The rim of the Explorer is much deeper than many other disc of the same speed from Latitude which is not the greatest for me but as long as the disc is flying as far as others then I won't worry about it too much. And also, this disc does fly as far as other 7 speeds and much more. I can get about 30 more feet with this disc compared to other 7 speeds in the same stability range. I probably would not give this disc to a beginner as is just too stable and will likely not give them what they are looking for but the more experienced player will definitely get some use from this disc.

This is the disc I have been waiting for!  As someone with a pretty low arm speed (max driver distance of about 285) this disc does exactly what I need off the tee.  I can get a very slight S flight from this disc thrown at about 80% power.  Good stability at the end of the flight always brings the disc back a touch to the left of center, but the flight stays smooth the whole time.  This disc replaced a Star Lite Teebird that I had bagged for years, and I couldn't be happier with this disc!

Controllable doesn't even begin to describe this disc. If you rip it hard, it goes dead straight. Put some hyzer behind it and it will hold that line consistently and go a long way. Anhyzer some seriously awesome flex lines. This disc has become my go to control driver for just about any shot as an intermediate player because of how predictable it is and how much distance I can get out of it. It does it all!

This is what a Teebird wants to be. This disc is ridiculously straight, and if you power down some, you'll get a bit of fade at the end. Full power throws will see this thing going dead straight with little fade at the end.

The power also isn't too high, so it's a decent entry level Fairway Driver for newer players or slower arm speeds. Very reliably straight.

    A Glidier Teebird? You bet.

I picked up a 172g Pink Opto Explorer today as part of the Dynamic Discs 2-Disc Challenge. It was easily the most chosen disc of the day. Judging by my own score and the score of a few others, it was a good choice to make.

In the hand, the Explorer actually feels similar to a Teebird. That comparison is frequently made, but in this case it is quite apt. My initial throws caused me to think that the "Trilogy Teebird" had at last been achieved. After a full round, I can revise that a bit for dedicated Teebird throwers: the Explorer is like a fresh Brinster Teebird with a ton of extra glide. This disc just keeps going! I was getting an extra.10-20 feet on my drives over my typical fairway drivers. The Explorer is also a dream for forehand drives. Because of that extra carry, I can finesse my forehand a little better and get the same distance as a "power" forehand but with better control.

Will the Explorer replace my litany of Teebirds? Highly unlikely. But once the Explorer is released in other plastic blends...

I've heard this disc called "what Teebirds want to be," or wish they were, or something like that. As much as I have gone to the Explorer well since I bought mine, it hasn't pushed the Teebirds out of my bag. I find (for my arm) the Explorer is more overstable and has better glide than my Teebirds.

For reference, I don't have much power or distance in my arm, so I tend to play more of a placement game. But I think this disc can work for any type of arm. It has a consistent, predictable flight pattern. Where it really shines is in windy conditions.

Throw the Explorer level, with the nose down, into a head wind, and it cuts through and glides, glides, glides. This is a mold that will stand up to wicked wind. I know because I threw it all day today into heavy wind. On days when it's not as gusty, it's perfect for hyzer shots (RHBH). And if you've got the juice, rip this disc, and I'm sure it will go dead straight with a predictable fade (left) at the end.

I got one of these discs during a match play event, and it quickly made my bag. It seems to hold straight forever, and still have predictable fade at the end. I keep finding more and more holes to throw it on. It holds up pretty well in a head wind as well. I think the numbers hold true, but I feel it almost has more glide than the numbers say. Seems to stay in the air forever.

This is a very nice quality disc.  It has a very predictable flight and I feel very confident throwing it.  I throw at a little higher altitude, so this flies very overstable, but not so beefy that it just dumps.  The speed of this disc is perfect for all types of throwers.  To me this disc flies like I thought the Saint Pro would throw like.  It feels very comfortable in the hand and on the release.  This is a disc that I could really mash on and not worry about it dumping over.  It is also a great disc to throw on a hyzer line.  Most throwers are not going to get huge distance, but for the 300-350 range it is perfect!

I try not to follow hype, but I caught the bug with the Explorer. I was very eager to try it, and was able to get a Special Edition in L64's special Fuzion-X plastic. First off, the Fuzion-X feels awesome; I generally like more gummy plastics (I even throw a couple Elasto, Frost, or Fluid discs) so it was a great feeling, not overly gummy or firm blend.

The Explorer feels great in the hand; it's rim is a good comfortable size and has nice profile. The flight of the Explorer is fantastic; it's fairly neutral but holds any line you put it on. It held a great hyzer, with just a little high speed pop up. Thrown flat it would turn slightly but mostly go extremely strait before fading. It would hold anhyzers for most of its flight but have enough stability to flatten or even fade at the end, depending on the angle of release. It even seemed to work fairly well for roller shots, but I didn't get a chance to throw too many.

The flight seemed similar to some of my Fortresses and World's sparkle Culverins, but it's a unique disc. I could see if filling a Teebird-like gap in someone's bag as well.

I think Latitude did a great job with this disc, and I can see why it was so anticipated. Now that it's out, it's still just as popular and everyone seems to love it. It was difficult to get my hands on one for a while due to its popularity. If you are looking for a great strait flying Trilogy disc, definitely check out the Explorer.

My gold line burst Explorer is one of my favorite fairway drivers. I used to bag star and champion TeeBirds, and it seems to me that my Explorer is a touch less stable out of the box. I have a pretty good arm speed and can consistently get the disc out to around 350 feet or so. In a head wind it definitely turns over, but I've never had it turn into a roller. It turns over, glides in that direction slowly, then heads straight for a good amount of time, and then predictably fades back in. I think the fade may be a little more pronounced than the 2 rating it received, but that's just my opinion. This disc feels a lot more stable in a tail wind, but that is to be expected.

I think this is my favorite Latitude 64 fairway that I've throw in a long time! It flies just like the numbers say, very straight, with nice glide and solid fade at the end. It was perfect for those 300ft straight with gentle fade throws. It also it nice for anny shots where you need something to turn over for some time and then fade back to straight. Overall, a very workable disc.

Of course, opto plastic is a great feel for a new mold. The rim is the perfect speed 7 size, which makes it really easy to grip and rip. It did handle a lot of power and only turned over a little bit, but that's to be expected from a "0 2" disc.

I see why people are loving this disc now, great new Signature Disc from Ricky!

For Trilogy fans looking for an Innova TeeBird equivalent this is it. It isn't an exact clone, and Latitude 64 didn't just reverse engineer the the TeeBird mold, but when it comes to feel and flight, other than the different plastics, you probably won't notice a difference between this and the TeeBird. The Latitude 64 Explorer is so much better than the River Pro. When comparing very closely my Blue 172g Explorer and a Champion Teebird, the only difference I notice is that it appears that the parting line height and bottom mold of the Explorer is slightly lower. My Explorer has a nice gradual dome which makes it work well for me for both Backhand and Forehand throws. It's true to its flight ratings and is stable with a consistent dependable fade. This is not the glidiest disc in the world, but it fills its purpose of being a stable, reliable fairway driver. For me, it's perfect for throws around 300 feet that you can't afford to have turn over and where you are counting on the reliable fading finish.

Is the Explorer a revolution in disc golf and a game changer? No. But, this disc is great if you want a disc like the Innova TeeBird but prefer to throw Swedish plastic.

I'm going to admit right away that I don't exactly have the arm to make this disc fly the kind of straight lines that big arms get out of it, but I still love the Explorer. For an amateur player like me who's been playing a few years, this disc is an amazing wind fighter that won't turn over into a headwind, and it's an awesome forehand disc that will never get squirrelly on you.

No, you probably won't get as much distance out of this disc as you get with more understable discs and higher speed discs, but what the Explorer gives you is reliability, because this is a disc that never even thinks about doing something funny if you release it at a different angle or different power level than you did the last time you threw it. Every single throw with the Explorer is pretty much going to the end the same way, with the disc flying straight for as long as you can power it (not all that far in my case) and then hyzering out.

In a sense, that actually makes this disc great for less experienced players, because it won't punish you as hard for a bad throw, but it's not really a beginner's disc for the simple reason that you do need at least some arm speed in order to get this disc to fly properly without hyzering and dumping out.

But if you've been playing for a little while and want something very stable to add to your bag, the Explorer is probably the best little fairway driver you could spend your money on. It's comfortable in the hand, it's good on both backhand and forehand shots, and it is a reliable disc for when you need accuracy at a range where your putters and midranges won't quite do the job.

I love this disc. I think the numbers on it are spot on. It has a predictable fade for me and I know the line I need to put it on. It feels great in my hand. I do not think you need a big arm to use this disc. If you want a disc that is stable to overstable this disc is it.

Although I respect wanting to market it without comparison to a competitor's product, let's just go ahead and say it: the Opto Explorer is VERY similar to a Champ Teebirb: a stable true fairway driver, with minimal turn but manageable fade. The Explorer is maybe a squick faster, but keeps all of the glide of the Teebirb, meaning you can count on a long straight part of the flight before it finishes. On sub-300' throws, it does show that 2 fade pretty solidly, and won't turn. As you start to push it out toward the 325' range, though, it does show slight turn, but does not wander far off line, and still finishes with a predictable touch of fade. I personally can't speak to its flight under much greater power, not possessing said. Although it is easy enough to see some effect when throwing into the wind, the Explorer cuts it as well as any comparably stable disc. Overall, I find it to be a reliable straight-stable fairway driver - and one that's actually a fairway driver, not a 9-10 speed hybrid (yes, those have their place too, but sometimes the control of a true fairway is important).

As for feel, it has a true fairway rim. The PDGA approved list quotes its rim width at 1.8 cm; for comparison, the Escape is listed as having 2.0 cm rim width. (Note: the original Teebird is listed at 1.7 cm, but the TL and T3 are listed at 1.8 cm, and I can't tell a difference in width between the Explorer and a Teebird.) This slightly smaller rim than hybrids like the Escape makes for a more comfortable, secure feeling grip. It has a pretty middle-of-the-road depth, and features a moderate, consistent dome, all of which contribute to that solid grip and a nice hand feel. The Opto plastic is good durable stuff, with a slight tad more flex and a better, grippier feel than Champion plastic.

I get why L64 is trying to not trumpet the Teebirb comparison: if anything, the Explorer is a better disc, improving on the OG in terms of feel, and boasting a tiny bit more speed and distance without compromising on the glide or stability.

I'm reviewing the burst Explorer.  This is very straight with fade at the end.  This is a Champ TeeBird that feels different in the hand.  I actually prefer the feel of the Explorer over the TeeBird too, mostly to do with the plastic though.  There is a lot of dump on this, so much so that I don't really want it in my bag.  I would describe this as is somewhere between stable to overstable.  So if you have been waiting for a stable Trilogy control driver, boom here it is, and it does what it says.  I think the bigger arms will like this a lot more than those of us with mortal arm speed.
