Great understable disc. Very domey with a long glide. Good for rollers once broken in and turnover shots. Feels like a shorter Tern with more glide.

This is one of the easiest discs to get good distance with for amateur players. With its understability it will flip up and glide straight for a long time with minimal finish at the end of the flight. Stronger arms will be able to get long anhyzer flights with ease or turn it into a roller disc.

This is my farthest disc right now for a wide open full power shot (275-350 feet). I have a star Mamba in 167g. I don't use it for much else other than open shots though.

RHBH with low beginner level power.  Had a GStar Mamba 155g that broke in quick and became too flippy... recently decided to get a Star 155g and it is much more stable but not too Overstable for my noodle arms.  Out of the box it pops to flat, gluides, then finishes left... in a few months, it should be ready for prime time full flex flight!

As a RHFH I love this disc when I need to get around something that I may not have the space to throw a RHBH. This also does a great job in the woods RHFH cutting sharp angles through trees, the roll is predictable and can get you out of a jam quickly.

I would say that this disc is pretty beginner friendly. For me, it is only a roller disc and as I don't throw rollers often, the mamba doesn't often find a spot in my bag. It is a great disc, however, and a good distance driver for those who don't quite have the speed yet to get the ideal flight out of more stable drivers. Pretty great overall!

The Mamba may be the best first distance driver for newer players. While it is understable, both the ones I've had haven't quite lived up to the -5 turn they're marked at. Either way, it's incredibly versatile, being fast and glidey enough to go very far and stable enough not to turn and burn. I love my Mamba as a compliment to my Beast and Wraiths.

Picked this disc up when I was quite new thinking it would give me extra distance. It did just that. It’s high turn rating and glide worked for me as a new player. As I improved, this disc taught me other shots and got me even further down the fairway. Highly recommend.

Picked this up as factory second and just thought a -5 driver what the heck? Now I have plenty of flippy beat in drivers bought but have trouble throwing accurate turnovers. Could this be the disc? Well, in new star plastic it's nowhere near -5. Perhaps closer to a -2 or -3 (if a -2 starts out as 0) I'm sure as with most discs it will get flippier with time. As for now, when I throw this disc with a flat, low, powerful rhbh it will fly extremely straight.

It flies nearly as straight as a midrange but with much more speed. There is pretty much no fade at all if you get it up to speed. I have basically tried to save this disc from getting too flippy for when I need a long straight shot. It will even skip forward considerably rather than to one side or the other.

One thing that I didn't expect is that I can forehand this disc as far as some fast more stable drivers. I don't think I would reach for it often to bomb in an open field especially with any wind but it has found a spot in my bag for long tight shots and some ace runs. Even when I mess up the release this disc fly straight enough that I often get closer to the basket and fairway than expected.

The Mamba is easily one of my favorite understable drivers.  Its very understable, but in the Star and Champion Plastics its very controllable.  I find the mamba to be the most trusted understable driver in my bag, Obviously head winds get tricky but in Star I can hyzer flip it and it still holds a nice S curve.

I would recommend this for beginners moving into an intermediate level looking for distance as the glide keeps this thing in the air and the disc is not difficult to throw far.  For intermediate players i think its a great uphill tailwind disc that bombs. Advanced players will likely put too much power but it would likely make for a good roller on long holes.

Good disc, though in start plastic is not nearly as understable as the number they suggest. I've had mine for almost two years and it only turns over and rolls off I really yank it. It coasts beautifully in a slight headwind that will keep in turning and in the air for a long time.

This is a great first option for anyone looking to get into high-speed distance drivers.  In fact, this was the first disc that I was able to throw over 350 feet.  It may be the perfect trainer for throwing distance drivers, but is incredibly influenced by the wind and nose angles.  Power down, throw this disc flat and it will go straight for a very long way.  A little more power will produce amazing hyzer flips that either go dead straight or slowly drift to the right.  Anhyzer releases will keep going right as long as you give it enough height.  Too much power (or any moderate headwind) and the Mamba will either crash right or keep drifting and not come back.  I really like this disc, but don't keep it in my bag because it is very hard to control on windy days.

I started playing DG in July 2021.  I was originally under the thinking that only big throwers should use high speed discs.  However, when I started talking to people who have been playing for years at my local park.  They always mentioned trying a Mamba.  So, I eventually got a Mamba.  Star plastic, very light, 150grams.  It was like a rocket shot out of my hand.  The Mamba goes farther than any other driver I throw.  Same exact pull every time, the Mamba is going farther every time.  I love the Mamba so much I purchased another Star and a Champion Mamba in a heavier weight.  It is my favorite disc to throw.(so far).   As a relatively new player to DG, I would recommend this disc to everyone.  A little extra distance never hurt anyone.

I can agree 100% with other reviewers that this disc is fun to throw. It might be unpredictable for a new player, but could also be an easier distance driver to begin with if you can get your arm speed there. I'm having an absolute blast experimenting with long hyzer-flip shots that seem to glide forever. This has been a great disc to play unique shots and get great distance with minimal effort. I own two of them in Star and GStar plastic. They are staying in my bag because they are just too much fun to throw.

This disc is a great go to disc if you want to do easy anhyzer or flip up shots. Because of its drastic turn, you never really have to throw it at a anhyzer angle, just on hyzer and depending on what you want to throw depends on how deep the hyzer gets. I have been able to create many different shot shapes with this thing and is a go to in my bag.

This is a great disc if you live at high elevation. A lot of people think this is going to be flippy. It's not. Throw it hard and low and it will glide on line forever. I throw destroyer 400' back and forehand and don't turn over the mamba. It's not like a Tern which visibly tilts the left side up mid flight and moves right. Instead, the -5 Mamba fights gravity and allows for that 6 glide. Throw a hard forehand 3 feet off the ground and it will just keep going. Also, it finishes straight with some fade. My throwing style is low and flat; perhaps if you give it more air it will turn more. I live in colorado so the altitude reduces turn, but I have many other discs with less turn rating which turn a lot more than my sweet sweet "Mambee".

    (168g Star Plastic)

This is an incredibly fun disc to throw. If the wind conditions are right and you get a perfect release, this disc will soar past your furthest throw by at least 50 feet. Its a good disc to start learning how to throw rollers with. It can also be fun for ridiculously angled hyzer flips. If you don't have a big arm or your form has gotten better this will probably be your go to disc for your bigger distance shots assuming optimal wind conditions and have the room to work with, as it has the biggest side to side S curve in existence. Its also a very touchy disc when it comes to release angle. Hence the -6.0 turn rating as anything close to anhyzer or even sometimes a flat release can cause this disc to burn out into a throller. It's a fun disc with some utility which is why I bag it.

I have the most distance (406 FT. Measured with Bushnell) with this disc and also 332 FT. Ace at Brian Piccolo Park hole 9... this is by far my favorite disc, even though it's finicky... sometimes I throw a hyzerd, it flips up and keeps flying, sometimes it keeps turning to the right and sometimes flips up and keeps turning to the left... Star plastic is good on my fingers, it doesn't rip 'em like Champion... I love this disc even though it can be a little difficult at times...

My hometown course has a 500' hole that is off to the right. I bought this thinking it would be great for that hole but I always throw it dead straight for some reason. I am getting back into disc golf after a 20 year haitus so my skillz are back to beginner level.

Even though the disc doesn't do what I bought it for, it is killer on holes where I have a straight shot to the basket. I use it a couple times on the home 9 hole course.

This is a great disc for beginners and even advanced players, if thrown the right way. This review will mainly focus on how I throw the disc.

This is a disc that I started with and still find plenty of situations to use it in. I see people saying this disc isn't useful for power arms but I'd disagree. I have a 390+ backhand with a 460 max and love throwing the mamba. You can even go full smash in the right wind and on the right angle.

If you have a power arm than the best way to throw this disc hard is to do it in a tailwind and release it on a hyzer. The disc will flip to flat and make a perfect S curve. If there's minimal wind you can still put power in by releasing it on a hyzer. I wouldn't recommend this in heavy winds, unless they're at your back. It's all about the angle it's being released on and the throwers ability to control it.

I am a beginner, moving into intermediate level play.  I LOVE the Mamba.  Lost one when I grip locked, and it was magical to see smashed away on to private property.  Ha ha! I instantly bought another (even though I am a Blazers fan, went with the purple Mamba in honor of the late great nemesis, Kobe Bryant.) I suggest this disc for beginners, for sure!

This is a super fun disc. Like the numbers suggest, it is very understable and will turn, crash, and burn on you for sure if you don't throw it right. But for utility shots where you want it to turn, it is fantastic because if you throw it right, it will consistently turn over but then actually come back and fade a bit at the end which I love. Like some other reviews on here say too, you can get some awesome distance with this because it will get that full S flight for you and is also a great hyzer flip disc for beginners. With all that being said, the reason I rated it 4/5 is because it can be finicky to throw. That's probably more my fault than the disc, but for every couple of cool shots I have with this disc, I usually have one that flies way off one way or the other. So it's a super fun disc and I'd recommend getting one, just be careful with it!

Super understable. I got a 140 gram StarLite Mamba soon after I first started playing and had been trying to throw destroyers, which would dump on me after 250 every time. I picked up the Mamba and, as a very new beginner, was able to start hitting 300 somewhat consistently with a pretty reliable fade, sometimes it would just go straight.  As I got better I started ripping a little harder on it and it became too understable to be my go to distance driver. I still use it on wide open tail wind drives. It's also my secret weapon for standstill, touch forearms where I need to lace it through some trees with a low ceiling. It doesn't need much power, but it will fly pretty long and straight if you throw it right.

This disc gets easy distance when thrown on a hyzer. It will flip to flat and glide without a ton of arm speed. It's not the best in wind as it has a tendency to turn all the way over and cut roll if thrown into a crosswind. Overall I think this is a really good hyzer flip disc for lower arm speeds and beginners.

It usually just goes strait with maybe a little bit of turn and fade out of it. The times I see it fly as the numbers suguest is when i throw it on an anhizer, it almost never makes it out of the turn.

Understable doesn't even begin to describe this disc! I have used this disc to snake around trees that are obstructing my drives from a good distance away. When thrown with the proper power you can get the largest S-Curves you'll ever see from a disc. If I had more power to my throws it could quickly become my roller disc. For now, I'll keep using it as my farthest flying utility disc, I don't see myself giving it up any time soon.

I have a Star lite Mamba, which weighs in at a little less than 150 grams.  Just one look at the flight numbers should tell you that this is a very flippy disc.  And having it in the lighter weight means that it's even easier to flip by getting more velocity on it.  For me this disc is somewhere between a really handy disc to have in the bag and a disc that's too hard to control.  A shot that's thrown flat with this disc will spend its entire flight drifting to the right, and unless it's pretty high off the ground, won't fade back to the left at all.  And this can be a good shot for a fairway that's shaped the same way.  But to get any control for other shot shapes, this disc needs to be hyzer flipped, which will give a nice S curve.  Unfortunately, I've found that it's hard to control how much flip the disc gets on a hyzer flip.  Part of that is probably inherent to the Mamba, and part of it probably has to do with it being so light.  Any anhyzer on the release means that the shot will probably turn into a roller, but with the Mamba being so understable, it's hard for it to hold a straight line on a roller, as it wants to continue turning.

In general, I don't think it's a good idea for someone with a lower arm speed to get an ultra light version of a fast disc.  While they will probably be able to throw it farther than they can throw heavier discs, it's hard to control a disc that is so light and so fast.  My Mamba is not especially egregious in this regard, being close to 150 grams, though even this is somewhat difficult to control  But the Blizzard Bosses and Destroyers that are closer to 120 or 130 grams are just not going to be controllable enough for most disc golfer if the hole isn't wide wide open.

The Mamba is a very shallow disc, but also very domey at the same time.  The rim is not too wide for a distance driver, and I haven't had too much trouble with my grip on this disc.  The Star lite plastic feels just like regular Star plastic and gives a great grip.  Overall the Mamba is a disc you would get to fill a hole in your bag.  I wouldn't plan on throwing it more than a handful of times a round.  But on the right type of hole, it can be just what is needed.

This disc is UNDERSTABLE people. If you throw over 325 I would beware. Good for throws I think in the 300 range. Might give those people who normally throw 280 that extra turn and glide to get out to 290-300. Maybe try a lighter one if you throw 250 and want to mess around and see what it can do. It's also shallow in the grip as well so keep that in mind.

Not a bad disc but fits a certain group better then others.

Star Mamba 170g- This is my current long distance driver record holder. I consider it a sort of "cheater" disc due to how very understable it is. I can drive about 300'-325' with the Mamba. It is also one of the first discs I realized what a hyzer-flip looked like. I do not really have an effective backhand roller yet, so cannot comment to how it works for that, but I have thrown this thing 260' uphill on an anhyzer backhand. If you get the angle correct on the anhyzer this disc will finish right

This is personally one of my favorite discs. Once it beats in a little it becomes VERY understand. I really only use it for 1 type of shot, hyper flip up to flat for long long straight drives with little to no fade. So pretty much the most useful shot ever. The insane glide and little fade insure this disc goes straight all the way until it hits the ground. If thrown flat it will turn and not really come back. If thrown anhyzer it will flip and roll. This disc taught me to hyper flip and that's pretty much what its best at if you ask me.

The Mamba was the first disc that provided that 'aha' moment as I learned the benefit of an understable, high speed driver. This disc added distance and confidence to my drives while giving my shoulder a break.

As a beginner seeking distance, I would erroneously try higher speed stable drivers to gain distance. I would rip as hard as I could, end up sore, and often not achieve any distance than I could gain with a Sidewinder. A friend recommended that if I had success with Leopards and Sidewinders that I try a Mamba. It became my go-to driver unless there was a strong crossbreeze or tightly wooded hole.

I've since moved up to driving primarily with stable to overstable distance drivers, but I still reach for the Mamba if I have a wideopen fairway.

Long story short, if you're a beginner/intermediate player looking to increase your distance without ruining your shoulder ripping overstable Speed 12+, give the Mamba a shot. I've had success with a 171 gram in Star Plastic.

This review is coming from a player of intermediate skill-level. I usually drive around 325 ft. with a max distance drive of 375 ft. Using the Mamba, Star 175g.

I give the Mamba 5-stars for its intended purpose as a high-speed understable disc, and 4-stars in general because it’s often unnecessary. The Mamba is not one of my favorite drivers, but it does have its utility on occasion.

My favorite application for the Mamba is on open fairways with a tailwind. It will coast far and wide beautifully just like the flight chart here illustrates. However, because it turns significantly to the right while coasting, it need a lot of space on the right side of the fairway to be successful. You will not want to break this disc out on tight or constrained fairways.

I’ve also used a 167g Mamba as a roller disc to great effect. I can’t backhand drive more than 375 ft. with the Mamba, but I’ve backhand-rolled this disc roughly 400-425 ft. I don’t normally use it as a roller, nor any other disc for that matter (my rolling game needs work), but I suppose it would work well as a roller if you hone your roller skills.

I wouldn’t recommend this disc to a beginner because it’s an 11 speed, but I think the Mamba works well for an intermediate player looking to increase his or her max. distance drive by 25-50 ft. using no extra effort and slightly more caution on the right side of the fairway.

My favorite disc, was great for my drive it added much needed distance. I have also put it in other players hands, referred it to many and from my experience it's a great beginners disc especially those with a strong arm that need that extra distance they haven't unlocked. If you don't have one or haven't tried one give it a shot you may love it!

I love this disc for those shots you want to just keep turning over.  It doesn't come out of the bag very often, but it has its uses and I'm glad it always within reach when I'm out on the course and find myself needing a complete turnover shot.  I think it does have a little more fade than what it says though.

As I started to learn to Drive, the Mamba was my second step into distance discs (the first was of course an Opto Diamond) but as I kept moving up the food chain, I still kept the Mamba in my bag. It is the kind of disc I would rather have and not need, than need and not have. I keep it light weight (around 168g) and love it for the end of a long game like a 36 hole one day tournament. When my arm is almost spent, I know I can turn to the Mamba with whatever I have left in the tank and get some good results off the tee pad.

    To all beginners:

Get a mamba around 150-160 weight, and never play on windy days! Ok. I know it's hard to never play on windy days... but maybe just don't use the lightweight mamba on those windy days. For me, this was the first disc I put out 300. It was a very still spring day and I couldn't believe how far I had just thrown! Since that day, there has been no turning back. I'm up to throwing 0 turn overstable drivers now! But it all started with my lightweight mamba giving me the chance to see what it was like to get a disc to flip up and glide. My beloved mamba is now my wife's as she is learning to do the same, and she loves it too. I cannot recommend this driver enough for young players, new players, or slow arm players. You will  outgrow this disc, but that is a good thing, because this disc will make you better!

The mamba is a great disc if you can use it correctly.. Sometimes I have a hard time when throwing a hyzer flip where it just goes right and in a hurry. It is all turn for me and no comeback to the left with a RHBH throw. This is nice to use in some situations where a sidearm won't be the best option.

Would recommend this disc if anybody is trying to find the solid right moving disc and has the arm speed to make the mamba fly the way it wants to.

This was the first disc I really learned to hyzer flip. With good arm speed this disc can still be useful on worked on a nice turnover but may be a bit understable for your liking. For a seasoned beginner that wants to push their distance I think this is right where to start.

If you are somewhat of a beginner and you have the basic mechanics of backhand drives down, you should be able to get a something like a Leopard out past 250 feet.  Then you might be ready for a Mamba.  I have it in 140g Starlite plastic and it's the easiest disc for me to get max distance.  I have a noodle arm and can get this past 310 feet regularly.  However, I threw it into a slight headwind.  Big mistake, with such a light disc and so much glide, that thing made a 90 degree turn to the right and I lost it.  Luckily someone found it for me.  I love my Mamba, but would never use it again with any head or cross wind.

Mamba does Mamba things! Great beginner distance driver, and as you progress in your playing it turns in to a great roller or turnover driver.

But like all innova plastic its performance is highly depended on the production run from which you get it. There is very little consistency in between different runs of innova, and other manufacturers, discs. Which can make it frustrating if you loose a disc that worked great for you because the next one you get might be completely different.

    TOUCHY BUT EASY DISTANCE

The Mamba is massively understable and fast. If you have OAT issues, a power arm, or live in windy conditions, the Mamba is going to be a fickle disc for you.

With the monstrous -5 turn, this disc is fast but accessible to slower arms. If you are looking for a first distance driver, this isn't a bad place to start. For beginners I could see this being a straight flier for them.

For more advanced players, this disc would fall into the utility disc category for me. I would see this used for huge uphill drives, poor footing standstill drives, long turnovers, and rollers. In all of those areas the Mamba would be a good choice.

I found the roller to my favorite thing to do with the Mamba. I don't throw many rollers, but I unleashed a number of 350-400 footer backhand rollers with the Mamba in the field. I found it's rolling capability was more consistent than throwing it in the air. That -5 is too squirrelly in the air when it's windy, and if you miss the angle it's not coming back, or cut rolling for you.

If I used this disc earlier in my career, I'd probably like it more, or if I played more roller friendly courses I could see it useful. Not for me presently.

I have been playing now for about three months. I am finally starting to get my drives around 320 ft. This disc has been amazing for me. It snaps out of slight highzer release and glides for days. Great S flight and easy for me to control. Great beginner disk if you have the arm.

I bought this disk because I just started playing and wanted a high speed driver that I could turn and get a nice s curve with. It worked...for about a week. Now if I throw it RHBH it goes right no matter how much hyzer is on it. So if Im playing a dog leg right it's my go to because I'm terrible at the side arm shots.  Other than that it's a good loaner for friends that have never played.

Really only two uses for this disc: low-line roller and dinner plate.

Side note: it's really fun to mess around and hyzer flip this thing on some ridiculous angles

    166g and 175g Star Plastic

I have had two very different experiences with this mold.

I could get the flight chart out of the 166g, if not the entire distance, at least the long right turn with a dependable late fade, out to about 375 feet.  Until I lost the 166g in a deep water hazard on an errant roller, it did what it was supposed to and worked for my intermediate power and ability.  The 6-Glide rating is for real.

The 175g Mamba was more over stable than most of my Destroyers.  The 175g never did anything but fade hard into the ground without ever turning over, so I threw that worthless piece into the water hazard for good measure.

I eventually replaced this disc with a 167g RoadRunner that does all kinds of amazing tricks, both backhand and sidearm.  I have a feeling that the Mamba is too fast to be a reliable turn-over disc for most players.

I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5, because I've had seriously mixed results.  The lighter the disc, the more you can rely on it to turn the way you want it to.

This disc is very under stable of course but is also very underrated. I use this disc for big turnover shots or hyzer flip shots. This is also my most reliable forehand disc. I use this disc for tailwind shots or elevated teeboxes for that extra glide.

This was the first true distance driver I could throw with any real reliability. For people transitioning from something like a Diamond or a Jade, this disk will feel very familiar, and be the next logical evolution for your game.

New off the shelf, the Star Mamba will seem fairly overstable, but before long it will break in and become a consistently understable flip disc.

I keep a 168g Mamba in my bag for turnover shots and reliable S curve understable throws. If the wind picks up, I will switch to my slightly heavier Bolt or my River, but the Mamba will always be welcome in my bag.

I purchased this disc as an upgrade once i felt i was able to step up to a higher speed disc. I thought that this was a good choice due to its extreme undersatbility which i thought would compensate for the high speed... I was incorrect. This disc only belongs in the bag of someone who knows how to throw it. The speed doesn't compensate for the turn, a beginner will simply try to rip this disk and will send it rolling down the fairway. Dont get me wrong, this is an excelent disc if you have a purpose for it but i dont believe beginners will find this purpose. I used this disk strictly for rollers until i rolled it into the woods never to be found again. This is a purpose built disc which i do not reccomend to new players.

I think this disc would be most benifical to beginners. With the high speed turn it will help them get added distance. The reason I don't throw this disc any more is because I would only throw it to get a long anhyzer throw and I can usually get that with an understable destroyer or my bolt or if i want a little less distance my roadrunner.

Lets start out, VERY FLIPPY, BEWARE.  I got this disc when looking for a higher speed driver I could control. Lets just say I am a lot better now.

First, my review for beginners/noodle arms. This is a great disc for finding greater distances with high speed drivers. As a beginner, this disc served me well at getting me greater range. This disc will turn over on a moderate-high power shot as a beginner.

Now, for now. I recently improved my form and WOW, this thing is too flippy. I can throw rollers with it on a slight anny angle. On a hyzer flip I get the advertised flight ratings. I use this disc for rollers and those left to right holes I need something to curve on. Not being able to throw it that hard, I have to be aware of my power. If I put too much on it, it won't cooperate and dump over.

Overall, the Innova Mamba is a great disc for those needing a high speed driver they can control. For greater arms, use this disc as an easy roller/ turnover disc.
