Great disc that beats in well, and helps beginner players get a lot of distance.  It's not as understable as it says as a new disc, but is really flippy after being broken in a bit.

Summary: Great beginner distance driver that'll become a really fun disc for utility.

Feel: Champion plastic is the pinacle of high durability premium plastic. The rim feels a little thinner than an 11 speed, and the lower parting line makes it feel domey in a comfortable way. The dome almost feels unnoticable since the rim is a constant angle to the outer edge.

Flight: Not quite as understable as it says, but still understable no doubt. Starting out, this was very overstable and too fast to get any turn. Throwing farther and with more spin, this disc flips more and more. If you love discs like the Tilt, this would be the antithesis and just as fun to throw.

A great disc if you have a wide open shot. Disc needs a lot of left to right room to work as it turns then fades back. Can be the farthest disc you throw if released correctly. I can only use it on specific holes but it's a ton of fun to throw!

This disc is highly underrated. For beginners this is a great first 11 speed driver. For an intermediate to advanced arms this will reach you angle control. I don't have the greatest arm but this disc goes for me I threw it on a high hyzer flip to flat and it went into hyper drive out to 410-420 ft on a rope. Everyone should have a disc like this in their bag

Even in the stable Champion plastic, the Mamba is crazy understable, and I love it.  For beginners, it will be a straight flyer, and for more advanced players, will be awesome for huge turnovers and rollers.  ...and being Champion, it will hold up to all the tree hits.

    Sick Trick Shots

RHBH 176g Champion Plastic -  Long flight into a roller.  rollers under th trees. mild "S" turns under the trees. Sometimes shocking long hyzer flips. attempted Long Rollers that flatten into your longest drives downwind. Aces. Nearly indestructible. This is one of those discs you learn to control, so not for everyone.  All the things that a heavy Stingray can do, just faster and more durable.  Can't throw over 500 feet ? roll it if the ground is smooth.

If beginners can't turn the Champion Mamba into a long roller.  then try other plastics. Do get easy to find colors.

This was my first distance driver when I started. Great distance and great grip of the C-Line Plastic.

As I grew in the sport it became too flippy for me and moved on to the Sidewinder for better controlled shots.

The champ plastic mamba is not nearly as understable as the others plastic. if you want understable i would recommend not champion.

I had an opportunity to get a new 170g Factory Second Star Mamba at half price, so I thought I'd take a flier on it (pun fully intended).  I've worked with it on the range and on the course.  First the good:  thrown correctly, it will go far with some turn and then some fade back.  I can get decent distance when I don't throw it as hard as I possibly could.

On the not-so-good side, throw this into a headwind and it's "ugly".  On a calm day it's okay, but the Mamba definitely is not to be recommended on days with any wind in one's face..

I will re-evaluate the Mamba when I become more experienced and get my form and technique really down.  (Edited 5/20/15)  And that re-evaluation is that the Mamba is a good understable disc.  It works well on uphill throws (where understable discs tend to do better), I can hyzer-flip it, and I also often put a slight anny on it to make it go right (RHBH) when I need it.  Very understable, it can be touchy, but I really like it on relatively calm days.

For being Innova's most understable disc, this doesn't turn as hard as I thought it would.  I have an intermediate throw, and I haven't been able to turn this disc all the way over but a couple of times.  The only way I can make it a roller is to throw it into a heavy headwind.  I imagine this will get easier as my throw improves, and as the disc gains some wear.

As it turns out, this makes the Mamba an excellent first distance driver, especially for players who don't have a powerful throw.  Intermediate players can get some S-curve out of it, yielding longer drives than more stable discs which begin to hook too early.  It fills this niche nicely for me, and I'm excited to say that I also threw my first successful hyzer flip with it!

I'm still unlocking this disc's full capabilities, but already it fills a couple of roles that no other disc in my bag can.  It's always in my bag, even when I slim down my assortment when traveling.

Found this disc deep in the brush at a local course. No name, and looked as if it had been there for a good while. So naturally I played with it.

Like many have said already, it is very finicky with the turn. Sometimes it'd have a nice smooth turn while other times it was very stable holding a hyzer. However, I found as I used it and beat it in, it got more reliable. So much so it became my most controllable disc in my bag. Hyzer flip, turnover, you name it. My recommendation, keep using it. It's a slow burn but once it get there, man it's tasty.

My form is pretty bad, so my arm speed lacks most of the time compared to others. So if you are throwing 400+ and not wanting to throw 50-60% power. Personally I'd stay away from this disc. However, if you like throwing slower, or have a slower arm. This disc, given time can become a staple in your bag.

I love this disc!!!!!! I cannot say enough about this disc. This is a very understable distance driver and it works for really great long hyper flips. It's also great for beginners looking to have an immediate bomber disc. Being as understable as it is it flies way farther than your typical overstable distance driver.

The Mamba is also great forehand. When I started(pretty recently) playing I was able to forehand this disc 250 which in the eyes of a beginner is crazy distance for a forehand. This as of right now is my go to  forehand disc.

This disc also is perfect for backhands. I throw this on slight hyzer and it quickly flips up to flat and glides for days. I can hit 350 as a beginner and it feels great.

Overall this disc has a thin rim and a shallow feel. It's a beautiful disc for hyzer flips, long forehands, and even rollers. I have lost this disc countless times and the sorrow was deep....but when I found it i was overjoyed. This is one disc you don't wanna lose. Luckily mine is in a bright red. I suggest you also get a bright color. I highly suggest this for any beginner wanting easy distance. Probably not a great disc for advanced players though. Buy yourself a mamba!!!!!!!

If you're a current or former ultimate player looking to transition into disc golf, the mamba has been one of the only reliable discs in my bag in the early going. As understable of a disc as you'll find, it allows for a predictable flight pattern when thrown on a hyzer. When thrown flat, it will have a nice little fade at the very end of the flight path. It's perfect for beginners and I highly recommend this disc for anyone just starting out!

Easy to throw easy to hyzer flip. Works great for RHBH with the basket off to the right you can power it hard enough to keep turning right. It has lots of movement I am still learning to control it but so far I like it.

2 Great Uses,  Control and Roll. RHBH

I have this disc in all the plastics including a rare StarLite.  Many players and disc makers fail to understand using under stable drivers,  Innova got this right.

Have some heavy X out Champion Mambas for rollers,  get a contrasting color for this, it goes far.   The Mamba is great for low torque throwing. So it is good for new players and very advanced players who know the low torque throw.  The glide of the Mamba is long and can be used for very long turn over throws.   The roller Mamba is always in my bag and use for much more than rollers.  I like the this disc for near vertical "chip shots"  because it lands where I am aiming.  I am not sure about the -5 turn rating, since I throw control instead of yank and let the disc level off style.  definitely not a headwind disc, as the numbers show.  yet a new 170 - 175 Champion and Star Mamba can do a very impressive run at some far and far right baskets.

I wouldn't say the champion mamba is beginner friendly only because the mamba is really the best roller disc around. I am not an advanced player but sometimes I can get a good 150-200ft roll on a good day. It is a very flippy disc so I can trust this to go more toward the right with a backhand without much angle change. Only thing that this disc cannot handle is wind so if you are in windy areas I wouldn't really use this but if not I'd get this to practice your backhand and forehand rollers.

The Mamba is very good at what it is supposed to be, UNDERSTABLE! I throw it on two specific shots.

    (1) Hyzer flip to big S-flight. You need some hight to get the complete flight but if you dial it in you can get a lot of distance! For reference, I throw destroyers 420 to 450 ft and can put the Mamba out about 420 ft if thrown right. It helps me throw from point A to Point B in a straight line (keep in mind the flight is an S shape but the launch to land is a straight line).

    (2) Easy, big turning sky anhyzers. Lots of hight and this thing will go 340 feet on a high turning anhyzer.

The Mamba is a utility disc for me, but the type of utility disc used for those shots where you need a very understable disc.

Try it out, you'll see what I'm saying.

So I got this in the low 160's by mistake but was still a great disc! With my power this disc was a great disc to learn how to throw rollers but it was a useful anhyzer disc with low power. I found that if I threw hard with a high hyzer it would flip over and carry a 90 degree right turn down the fairway, useful for a dogleg. I could also power down and throw it flat with some hight to watch it glide to the right softly. It is a excellent get out of trouble disc as it has a lot of glide and understability to need little power so you can hit your gaps to get out of the trees.

I also found that with the understability it was good for training the sidearm at throwing correctly and with less power. I could throw partial power and on hyzer, watch it flip to flat and glide! Distance was the same as my other drivers and the disc never moved left or right.

Beginners will find it as a useful driver since it has the understability and glide to add distance. It doesn't need much power, still needs some, in order to get it going with the glide. Have given it to my in-laws when playing to help them gain some distance when playing.

Wow is this thing understable. For an experienced player with a decent arm, if you have any anhyzer on it at all, just say goodbye, because you may never see it again.

With the amount of understability, it makes this disc a little unpredictable, however, if you’re looking for a little extra distance as a new player that’s still trying to work on getting the disc flat, you’ll love this guy.

I think the Mamba is essentially a juiced up Roadrunner. If you have a weaker arm and need that distance, this will be your disc!

If you're more expereinced, this thing is so fun to sky released flat and watch it turn for a very dramatic left to right pan. Huge roller too. I like it for sky rollers that hit around 200 ft on a cut angle.

It's such a weird mix of speed and understablility so if you know how to tame it you can get some massive distance with it with relatively low effort! Try one if you want a Max D roller disc!

If you have just started playing and are looking to get that first high speed driver and try break the 300ft mark, this is going to really be one that you want to get your hands on.

The high turn means that it is going to be very forgiving to those who haven't managed to get their arm speed/form up to the level yet where it is just going to sail off and never come back. As a beginner throw it with a bit of an anhyzer angle and watch it sail and come back for a nice S shot.

Even once you find your form and it starts to sail off into the sunset never to return, this disc still has many uses as it will help you with those long anny shots that just hold that line around corners and as a great roller disc.

While it has been largely largely replaced in my bag with higher speed drivers with less turn and more dedicated roller discs, i still whip this out on the occasional round to have some fun and see just how big an S shot i can get

I found my mamba in the woods with no name on it, slightly used but no real signs of wear on it. Not sure what weight it is because it's faded out. All that being said I never thought I would want to throw a mamba because the numbers make it seem like an uncontrollably understable driver, but I was really pleasantly surprised! The turn is very evident when you power up on this disc, but its equally useful for tunnel shots if you throw it at 70% on hyzer and watch it pop to flat and ride straight. I've used it as an understable roller as well when needed, but I think this disc really shines as a big distance bomber in the open field. Because of the glide and understability this disc has you can pump it out on a hyzer with a lot of height and watch it turn over and glide forever. Not for windy days though unless its a steady tailwind.

I love this disc. I have this Champion Mamba and a Star Mamba. I got them cuz they turn right for a right handed backhand throw. Although I can put the Star mamba out to a greater distance, I've found the Champion clear plastic to be much more controllable. Because it's grippier, I can pop it and expect it to gradually turn right all the way to the ground. I think it's just because the Star plastic is so much smoother and slippery, it goes out further but tends to fade back left at the end. So, if there's a hazard or OB on the left, I'm grabbing the Champion Mamba! Get at least one for sure. I hope this helps you choose your plastic.

I bought a max weight Champ Mamba to try out and see what it could do (the name is awesome). This disc is understable, for real. If you get this thing up to speed on an anhyzer, you will not see it come back. This was also great for some hyzer flips, but it was a little touchy. If you don't get the angle just right it way just keep fading and not come back. Overall this was a fun disc to mess around with, but I don't think it is a real versatile disc.

I absolutely love the Mamba! I am just starting out and throw sidearm. Almost all my drives are short and hook hard to the right. With the Mamba, my throws are longer and fly straight down the middle with no fade to the left or right. Once I get better I will probably be able to control other discs but for now, the Mamba is my favorite.

I'm not a pro, I play weekly between friends and leagues. I average 375.

I came across the Mamba when I asked a friend to recommend a disc that would keep to the right while being thrown rhbh. After a few laughs and finding a new friend, I was leant a Mamba. My first couple of throws were not impressive. By accident I slipped on the tee pad and put a ton of Anni on it and watched in amazement. This disc has become my go to driver for any right turn drives. The Mamba will come out of the Anni and glide for days without ditching hard to the left or turning into a roller. I've seen and heard people call this disc flippy..... To me it's anything but flippy.

I bag the champion Mamba in max weight and for long sweeping beautiful S curves, I keep a Star light version at around 150g.

If you're a beginner, this disc will do you good, and if you are beyond that and know how to shape a shot, you should give this disc a look.

This was one of the first really understable discs I threw with any consistency.  This is a great disc that will turn right, for RHBH, and stay right for a long time without just dumping into a roller.  With this being a speed 11 disc, it stays in the air and gets sneaky distance for you, or keeps that anhyzer line for those certain shots that need that shape.  It has a nice fade at the end that straightens out, but doesn't dump out.
The feel of the rim is very nice, some of the higher speed, quirky discs like the Mamba have a funny rim or edge, but the Mamba doesn't.

Get this disc if you are looking for some extra distance, or if you want the disc to keep a good turn without driving into the ground and becoming a roller.

The Champion Mamba has a decent feel: rim of about a typical width for a distance driver, with no remarkable oddities of shape. There is a uniform curvature to the plate, but it isn't a pop top. The Champ plastic is a durable option at a better price point than Star, but without the same grip, especially in the cold.

As for the actual flight of the disc (you mean that's what you came to read about??), it's pretty mightily understable. The Champion plastic makes it come out a bit more stable than the numbers, but it's still going to turn very readily and far. Expect this disc to finish well right of center (for RHBH throws) on even 270'-300' throws. Being so understable, this disc makes a great roller, which is why I bought it in the first place. I can easily get it over without breaking my back or having to go overboard on the torque, and it gradually stands up and finishes with a consistent curl rightward (for RHBH throws) at the end. As rollers get me about 10% more distance than air shots on smooth turf, this is a nice way to get easy distance. It's also a decent S-curve driver for my comparatively wimpy (~250') forehand, though I can't imagine it would take well to faster arms.

The Mamba is one of my favorite discs and a staple in my bag. It's the most understable disc in Innova's lineup and flips right over out of the hand. One of my favorite uses for the Mamba is utility/recovery shots where I'm obstructed by a tree and can't get much on the shot - this thing will just glide for days with very little power.

This disc is one of those high flying, long gliding sail-type discs. It's easy to turn this disc way too far, but with some practice, it's extremely useful on a calm day. Don't expect to throw this thing straight. The numbers are as advertised, so expect to use this for big flex shots.

Sneaky long. Yes, its very understable. Throwing the Mamba for max distance requires some practice and familiarity with the disc. You'll most likely have to hyzerflip it to keep it from flipping.

Shockingly long for a speed 11 disc with great glide. The Mamba will soar as far as anything Innova makes.... if you can hyzerflip it properly to keep it in the air. In heavy weights the Mamba is stable enough to handle hard rips.

Outstanding beginner disc or for anyone looking to maybe try a faster Sidewinder. For understable distance with glide, Innova got this one right. Highly recommended.

This extremely understable disc is one of my favorites, it isn't good for much but it's fun for a lot.

As a power driver it'll flip directly into the ground and go rolling away into the high grass, just like the -5 (!) turn rating says it will.

As a fairway or downwind driver it doesn't take much snap at all to get it sliding through the air, the opposite direction that it should be, with impressive glide distance.

As a midrange, underthrowing it brings the stability back up and you can get surprising distance and all kinds of interesting curves with silly release angles and just two fingers of power behind it.

And as someone who enjoys an easter egg hunt, the WTF-just-happened flight patterns will give you lots of opportunities to go looking.

EDIT: I've been playing for 2 years now, something is wrong with the Mamba I have, it isn't understable. It only turns in a headwind and it flies fairly straight with dependable fade at the end. For reference, my Star Tern is 10x more understable than the Mamba I have.

I have only been playing for about 6 months and I primarily throw understable discs because I can't throw fast enough to take advantage of other discs. I have the mamba in 161g champion plastic. I think it is slightly more stable than the turn rating suggests. For me, it generally goes pretty straight and I had a friend of mine throw it who can put his discs out past 350, and it did not turnover on him and flew out pretty well. It is definitely very glidey and I'd highly recommed it as the first high speed driver a beginner gets.

OVERALL:  I purchased a 166g Mamba in Champion Plastic from Infinite Discs.  I have medium power and, when thrown correctly, I can push 400 ft with this disc.  "When thrown correctly" is the key phrase.  The extreme understable nature of this disc makes it less reliable than some of its more stable peers.  Once I learned how to throw the Mamba, though, I truly appreciated its glide and versatility and would recommend it to anyone with medium power who wanted some extra distance or a driver that holds an anhyzer line for distance.

LOOK/FEEL:  The Mamba feel and look is similar to all Innova drivers.  The disc feels slightly smaller than drivers of other companies.  The rim diameter is perfect:  not a wide as some distance drivers such as my DD Defender, but wide enough to get a solid four-finger grip.  The top is comfortably in between flat and domey and has a smooth feel over the top side of the rim.

PERFORMANCE:  I throw LHBH.  I bought this disc for a specific purpose:  to have a disc in the bag that would hold an anhyzer line for distance.  The Mamba does this well.  I can start it on an anhyzer line and it will hold it for 350ft.  Its exceptional for long, open doglegs to your turn side (for me, the left).  Its also turned out to be very versatile.  I can throw it straight with a decent fade at the end or hyzer flip it for a straight shot for 350-400.  However, you have to practice with it.  If you put too much of an anyhyzer angle on it at release, it can hold a hard turn line, not recover, and dive.  Likewise, if you get too much height under it, it will fade substantially.  I've personally found that the numbers are more like 11,7, -4, 2.  This disc will glide for days.  The extra glide, however, makes the Mamba a poor choice into a headwind.

Thrown correctly, this is a great disc to have in the bag as an option.  Its too understable and inconsistent to have as your main distance driver, but its great for anyhyzer lines and hyzer flips.  I've learned to really like it.  if you buy it, don't discount it right away and bury it in your garage.  You'll figure it out over time and learn to love it.

The -5 turn rating on this disc is an exaggeration. It actually requires a very powerful arm to turn over, so it really isn't all that beginner friendly, and I haven't been able to get more than 300 ft out of it. I can make my Archon, a disc of the same speed but with -2 turn and 2 fade turn more than the Mamba.

This is a weird disc...it really can't handle much power, but it is also a little too fast for a beginner disc. If you are starting out, you should really be sticking with discs that are slower than the Mamba. This disc is flip city. Even throwing flat, you're just as likely to get a roller as not. I've put this thing on a scoop hyzer and thrown at 70 percent power and still had it roll over. Unless you are looking for a disc to get down on a quick roller, I wouldn't get a Mamba.

This is a good and durable disc, but I did not believe the flight path powered by inbounds (unless you can actually throw 400 ft).  For me the rating is as shown below.  It has its place in my bag, but it didn't take the anhyzer spot I needed it to.

This disc like all discs has its purpose.  I wouldn't recommend it to beginners.  Some one starting off needs a disc with a more of a -3 or -4 turn like an Archangel or Roadrunner.  When you have a disc that is at the far end of the spectrum, -5, it seems to be made for some one with a little more experience.  If you try to put too much power into a shot (something beginners do alot) this disc will obviously flip when you don't want it to and more often than not become an accidental roller.  It is a great roller disc speaking of.  This is more for intermediates and players perfecting hyzer-flips, long annys, and high speed rollers.  Like others have said, very specific uses.

Recommended for all beginners. The understable nature and impressive glide give you easy distance.  As you improve, it can get you out of tricky situations with big turns around obstacles and easily controllable backhand tosses.

Just like everyone else, I use this disc for high speed rollers. Just crank it out there on an anhyzer line and it will turn right into the ground. It's a fun disc to mess around with, but has a pretty specific use if you ask me.

Even though I am a beginner, I still like this high-speed disc. It being as understable as it is kind of keeps it from fading out too fast. It glides well and it is touchy but when thrown right I can get a lot of distance out of it. I like it, at least for now. It might prove to be too understable as I get to throwing faster and harder but at the moment it fits in my bag nicely.

The mamba is one of my favorite discs to throw due to its relatively high speed and glide. It can go far without putting much power, which in my instance (RHFH) is a big benefit. You can hyzer flip the mamba or throw it level and get a crazy amount of turn (just get some air under it). Reason I'm giving it 4 stars and not 5 is because it can be sensitive and you can get an occasional turnover shot. If you like playing with understable discs I recommend the mamba.

I tried this disc much too late in my disc golf career. Boy is this disc sensitive to power! Anyone who even thinks they can throw far will probably not find a good use for the Mamba. Every single throw was right into the ground on the right (as in, an anhyzer burn out). The only good shot I threw was on a 320 foot hole that has a fence to the right of it, setting up for a nice roller shot to hit the fence right next to the basket. Even though I threw a nice roller, I did not like the Mamba even as a roller disc, because it is so sensitive.

This disc is great for beginners trying to get faster discs into their bag. Once the Mamba is too understable, it might be time to move on to a Roadrunner or Sidewinder, something that has some fade at the end.

If you are a higher level advanced golfer or a pro, you might not want to bother with the Mambe. It is just so understable.

I have recently discovered the Mamba and over the last few months, I have grown to love it. It should be noted that I am from the Mile High city, so understable discs are not so flippy here, and glide is a highly desirable trait due to the thin air. I throw several versions of this disc: a beat Star 161g, a newer 161g Star, and a 175 Champion. I am not a power thrower, and typically I throw RHFH, and these discs do what I need them to. The Champion version has enough stability to handle mild to moderate wind conditions, while the Star versions are my go to drivers for no wind or tail wind bombs. This mold will never win any accuracy contests, but for all out distance this is a solid choice. Its easily my longest distance driver by a good 40-50 feet. This isn't a great choice for beginners with lots of arm but poor form, but it is a good choice for those with good form yet not much power. It has a sensative touch to it that will expose poor technique or too much torque. It has plenty of turn at speed, so make sure you give it room to breath.

This is not the most practical disc for most golfers.  If you throw it hard, it'll flip and sail to the right, very touchy.  It's fun to play and learn with though, and a few players swear by it, so why not give it a shot.  It does seem to have the potential to glide forever if you can throw it just right.

Apparently I have to add a star rating. Though I would prefer not to as I think the fault may lay with my arm. I have had trouble getting this to work as descibed. I am pretty sure that it is because of my non-13 power RHBH.It just never turns as much as it should.

This thing bombs in a tailwind. It's also a decent roller out of the box, but definitely a specialty disc. I only use it for a couple types of shots and rarely at that. Really easy to hyzer flip, but not too controllable. I mostly use it when I need something that will carry over water without fading out too early.

    (Edit: 6/9/2015)

I had a chance to revisit this disc after making a vast improvement in my form and found another use for my Champ Mamba, sky anhyzers. There are a few holes on the courses I play regularly that require a huge left to right flight, but a soft landing (for example, hole 3 at Skyline in Napa). I've been finding myself throwing sky annies with the Mamba on holes everyone else is throwing forehand shots on.

I have a 175g Champion Mamba.  It definitely turns for anhyzer shots, but the heavy weight and Champion plastic seem to help counteract the turn, creating more fade than I would like.  I can throw better long anhyzer throws with a lighter Star Teebird... one day I'd like to try a lighter, maybe Star or G Star Mamba to see if it performs better.

I like this disc a lot. It doesn't turn over as hard as the numbers on it lead me to believe it should when I throw it, but it gives me a solid S curve that can hit some nice lines for good shots. All that said, between my katana and medusa, I don't need this disc in my bag, so I can't say it's great... but If I lose one of those it may make it's way in.

Love it. I'm definitely in the understable/turnover group so this is right up my alley. And I have to say with a strong.hyzer flip this thing flies farther than any other turnover disc I've ever thrown. I really want to get my rollers working cause I know.this would be perfect for them. And seeing as I'm a huge Lakers fan the name is an all time classic. Maybe Innovas people can get with Kobes people and get a sick limited edition stamp of the true Mamba

This understable driver is a great choice for intermediate players who want to take their driving to another level. Throw it smooth and it glides for a long time or rear back and chunk it to really get it out there. Don't throw it into a headwind, though.

I have a 175 Champion Mamba. Most understable disc ever. When thrown flat, it flips over, which makes it a great roller disc. I have to throw this disc easily on a hyzer line now, and it always flips up and sometimes glides out really far. I'd say this might be the best driver for beginners because of how far it goes with such little power.
