    GStar X-Out Details

Innova GStar X-Out plastic is the ultra grippy GStar blend, but with a few minor errors. Discs marked GStar X-out are typically misprint, double stamped discs, or they have slight manufacturing errors and are stamped with the Factory X-Out stamp. X-Out GStar discs offer a more affordable way to test out new discs and plastics.

I'm basing the 3 star review on what this disc is supposed to be. Out of the box, this disc wasn't nearly as understable as you'd expect for a -5 turn. I'd say closer to -2. Thrown at 350 foot power on a hyzer flip, the mamba turned a bit but  still faded back and landed straight in front of me. Even after some solid tree hits, it's still a surprisingly straight flyer. I bought it for my wife originally because of its understable rating. Not the case. It's grippy, feels good in the hand, and works well for me when I need that gentle turn with finish, but it's by no means flippy. Perhaps because it's an X-out disc, it's got some sort of defect that alters it's flight, or I just have a much slower arm than I thought

My son (10) and I like this disc so much that we bought 4 (155g Star, 2x 159g Star, & 175g GStar).  The 2 extras are for friends or family (wife & daughter or anyone else) who play with us, although I keep a 159g and a 175g disc in my bag.  I use them a little less frequently than I though I would, but it drastically depends on the course.  This is a great understable distance driver for beginners.  The 1st time I threw the Mamba, I got 300' out of it without any trouble (and I was not a good distance thrower at the time... I've only gotten slightly better).  For someone who can throw really hard, I would be concerned that it might turn too much; I assume that a hyzer release would correct that, though.  I highly recommend this for any beginner who wants an understable distance driver.  If you're brand new to disc golf, it might even act stable.  It has great glide, although it as too much if there is a strong headwind (typical for high glide discs).  Innova plastics (except for thier DX plastic) are great.  I recommend Pro or better (Champion, Star, etc).  The extra money is worth it.

I started playing disc golf on May 5, 2020.  I quickly realized I needed understable discs (after I finally learned what that word meant) because my disc kept diving right and going nowhere (I am LHBH ).  After about 1 1/2 months, I bought a Star Mamba and after about 5 throws, I started falling in love!  This disc will go forever when I throw it halfway decently.  At the end of the flight, it hyzers right and pretty well stays put where it lands.

The Mamba took my drives from 150 feet to 225 feet.  It really shines in a headwind and does well in crosswinds, too.  I almost think this thing personally loves me because it never gets out of control or leaves me out of bounds.  If you have been playing for a couple of months, or even a dozen years, get a Star Mamba, they are fantastic!!   I don't throw super hard, so don't let the Speed rating of 11 scare you.  This disc feel to me more like a Speed 9.  And as far as the Turn rating of -5, it seem to keep the disc level thru most of it's flight.  To flip this disc, you really have to roll over on it hard.  I would not recommend the Mamba as a good roller disc.  As far as Glide goes, this beauty deserves every bit of the 6 rating Innova has given it.  If you regularly throw your drivers 300- 500 feet, this disc will fly to the next state!   BTW:  I recently found a Champion Mamba and I found it a bit harder to throw and not quite as friendly as the Star Mamba.  There truly is a difference in what plastic a disc is made from.  Two of the same discs made from different plastic will perform a wee bit differently from each other, so bear this in mind before you pay for your disc.

It seems a lot will say that this disc is beginner-friendly and in some ways, it is but in a lot of ways it is not. The reason it is, because it has a chance to fly at a greater distance for someone without a stronger arm. The reason it is not a beginner-friendly disc is because of how much turn and fade it seems to have. The slightest amount of wind can alter this discs flight path in very wild ways. Downwind can push it much further than you realize while crosswind can cause the disc to either be pushed straight down or way too far right, My favorite throw for this disc is the anny, and to watch it do a beautiful s-curl.
