The Maverick has a spot in nearly every player’s bag. The Maverick's smaller rim offers controllable fairway speed and straighter flights for slower arms, with trustworthy anhyzers and slow turns for experienced players. The Maverick is great in the woods with low ceilings and tunnel shots.

I had a Fusion X orbit Zach Melton maverick that was my favorite disc, I tragically lost it after not hitting a water gap and then getting attacked by bees trying to retrieve it. I picked up a 170g lucid maverick this weekend and I will be getting a few more of these to keep on deck. This is a good disc for every skill level. On full power thrown flat, it rolls. With a lot of hyzer, it will flip to turnover and it will hold it. Power down a little, and this thing is a point and shoot that flys how you want it to. Great disc for learning shot shapes, I think anyone can benefit from bagging this. For fast arm speeds, it really shines on slightly powered down shots that you want to go straight or hold a turnover.

A very comfortable feeling understable fairway driver. Flies very straight and is very easy to manipulate. Excellent disc for hitting tight lines in the woods and for shots that you don't want to fade out at the end. The one downside to this disc is that it does not hold up well in the wind. The glide number might be 5 rather than 4. Overall an excellent fairway driver for turning shots though

Great disc to hyzer flip and is easy to control. It handles lines well and does what you'd expect it to do. Honestly, this disc feels a lot like a little sister to the River or a more stable Diamond. I feel like this disc is a bridge between a Fairway Driver and a Mid and seems like it would be replaced by the two in those situations. Still a solid disc that is easy to throw.

Review is for a 175g lucid maverick. For me, this disc turns too much without having the glide necessary to keep it in the air. It wants to turn somewhat quickly out of the hand, but once it gets over it often hits the ground before the late fade can kick in. The fade at the end is a good 1.5-2, but it happens so late the disc doesn't fight the anny and stay in the air. The feel is great though, and it works great for a flip to flat hyzer with a reliable finish at the end. Just not good for much else for my game. Still going 4 stars, although I think 3.5 may be deserved. My 13 yr old nephew loves it for backhand anny lines, so I can't hate on it too much.

I really wanted to like this disc, but mine was unpredictable. Absolutely could have been a one off. Sometimes I would get the disc to turn and follow the theoretical, but not always. It does have a solid fade at the end consistently so 2.0 is accurate. I also had the lucid plastic and that may factor in. Overall I think this disc could be great, but it takes a lot of time to find what works.

It has taken me almost a year of playing with it to truly understand this disc and what it's good at.  Let's start with what it's not good at - wind and torque.  This is a somewhat delicate disc that likes to be thrown with medium power, it's slightly understable and glidey which makes it good in the woods or where you want to hit a tight line.  I bag this next to a Leopard 3, I throw the Maverick when I want to glide the disc down a fairway either straight or slightly anhyzer between 280 and 320 feet.  It's great for that shot, but if you try to put too much power into it, it will turn over and burn out.  It's a great form check disc because it will show you your nose angle and disc angle flaws if you have any.  It's more like a midrange than any driver I have, and if you like your midrange game this disc might be redundant. If you prefer drivers and need a woods disc, it might be for you.  Just don't expect it to fly well in wind or when powered up.

An update to my previous review. I have fallen back in love with this disc. Tunnel shots and turnover shots are now my bread and butter with this disc. Release on an almost comical amount of hyzer and it flips to perfectly straight and because of the glide and speed I can very reliably get it out to 350' and only 4-5' off the deck. The tournament player pack disc is certainly even more understable now that it's seasoned in. Like I said previously I release on a comical amount of hyzer, cardmates say "what are you doing" and then "WHOA why is that disc going straight or sliding right the entire time?" I recently bought another lucid Mav to be a "fresher" version, that one will push straight for longer and a touch of fade at the end. I also got a Zach Melton fusion Maverick but that one stays at home, it doesn't have the same characteristics that I love in the Lucid Maverick.

I was playing with a random and he kindly let me throw his maverick because he had told me he thinks I should bag one. After throwing his I was eager to get one. I had gotten a Zach Melton in the Lucid X not knowing it would be so different than just the lucid. After bagging the Lucid X for about a month or two I decided it was time for a regular Lucid. Fresh out the box it was doing exactly what I wanted it to do. I can throw this thing decently hard and can't rely it to turn without flipping and still finish with a round of fade. I don't have the best forehand, but this disc was fast to become my disc for back hand turnovers!

Just to pre-frame things, I have been playing more seriously for around 1 year but have played on and off for about 8 years. I am right hand dominant with a pretty even split between forehand and backhand shots. My honest drive distance is around 275-300 feet with a max of around 350 on a good day.

The Maverick has been great right out of the box. My first few throws had a great s- bend flight. Power it down a bit and you will have dead straight shots with gentle fade. Great for hyzer flips! I have had some success throwing this on some good anhyzer backhand lines as it will fight back to flat while continuing its flight to the right.

This disc can be tough to throw forehand and requires a smooth release without ripping on it or it will turn and burn. If you have a smooth forehand, this disc will be great for anhyzer and hyzer flip forehands.

Overall this is an excellent lower speed driver perfect for learning hyzer flips and straight to anhyzer tee shots.

I received this disc from a tournament and tried my hardest to like this disc. It actually has my furthest throw record (it was admittadely off the top of a mountain), but I really struggle to get a consistent result. If thrown with lower power it's a great flip up to straight flight path, with a ton of glide. As soon as you put any snap behind the throw it becomes the most understable disc I have ever chucked (I have thrown the Kon Tiki) I can put a ridiculous amount of hyzer on the throw, it will flip over and track to the right (RHBH) for nearly the entire flight with a very gentle finish. If I didn't have a forehand this would fit into a niche spot but I believe it will not be in my bag anymore. Perhaps if you are a beginner with lower arm speed and you want to have a disc that you certainly would be able to hyzer flip it could work for you. Or if you do not have a forehand and you want a mid/fairway that will track right, this could fit your needs.

Most forgiving disc in my bag. Even when I throw it poorly it seems to try its best to go as straight as it can. A bit understable if you really rip it, but the Lucid plastic is my favorite feel.

I absolutely love the maverick! Its the only disc I can do almost everything with! Hyzer flip, turn over, straight shots, and distance flex through trees. Its been a workhorse in my bag. The rim is a lot smaller than other discs I'll tried, but I love how it has no bead like bump. Domey and comfortable in the hand. When beat in it will fly more understable especially in fuzion plastic. Doesn't hold up super well in  head wind, but tail wind is great This disc is great for any skill level!

This disc is overall a utility disc for sure. It's very straight for beginner/slow arm speed players, but for the more advanced it's definitely used for a variety of flex shots, as well as controlled low beam/low ceiling shots overall. It's a very comfortable feeling disc, with a low/short edged rim. I've also found this disc useful for overhead throws such as tomahawks and/or thumbers. But overall this disc is used strictly for utility for many I would say, unless again you're a beginner. Which if is the case, this would make a great straight flying fairway driver.

I got this disc in the Lucid Plastic. For me when RHBH this disc is very stable. It holds almost a direct straight line. However. If you slightly Hyzer or An- Hyzer it, it will fly in that direction almost the entire flight, with little to almost no flex for an-hyzers. This is a good learning disc if you tend to angle your wrist for throws. The only time I would use this is in the woods when i need a straight shot.

This is a great understable fairway for newer players to learn how to throw drivers with and for more advanced players to manipulate at will. This is a fairway driver that you can do whatever you want with it. Whether it be a hyzer flip super straight shot, a hyzer flip full flex shot, and you can turn it over and get a really long anhyzer that has some fight so it won't turn into a throller. I really think this is a great disc if you want something that takes time to learn but when you do it will be something you will throw almost every hole. I wouldn't consider this a workhorse driver because of the precision you need on every shot. New players might find this disc to be a straight flier with a stable finish, when your armspeed gets faster or you develop better form this disc will become the workable fariway driver everyone needs in their bag.

    Disc - Lucid Maverick

Feel - This disc is extremely comfortable in the hand because the rim is not very wide nor very deep. It is one of my favorite feeling discs due to its small rim and I feel that I have a lot of control over the disc.

Flight - In my opinion, the maverick is the more advanced version of the innova leopard. The maverick has many more shot shapes you can throw with it. I love this disc for hyzer flip tunnel shots in the woods or slow turnovers. It will would a turnover angle for the entire flight. I would not recommend this disc in the wind because it is not very overstable and has lots of glide which is great for calm days but not for windy ones.

Overall - The maverick is a great disc. Obviously pros like Zach Melton love this disc but this is not one of those discs that only pros or more advanced players can use. This disc would be a great first driver for beginners, a straight disc for intermediate players, and a turnover disc or woods shaping disc for more advanced players. I would recommend this disc to anyone who wants to shave strokes off of their woods game or is just getting into disc golf.

I throw this disc 6+ times per round.  I only started playing about 8 months ago and this was the 5th disc I ever bought, when I was new it was the most perfect straight laser beam of a shot that I could throw.  Now it is a perfect gentle turn over IF I take a little off of it, it is also my go-to hyzerflip disc.  If you have a 300+ foot arm, this disc will flip a lot.  There is one reason that I have rated it 4 stars, if you love and trust this disc it's amazing, but when you have even a little doubt in yourself or the disc, something will go wrong, you'll probably hyzer is out too early cause you thought it would flip to much.  Overall, it's a great disc, especially in the woods but it can be a little touchy for the 300+ foot throwers.  I would recommend almost everyone at least give it a shot and decide from there.

When starting to try out some dynamic and latitude stuff, I was initially hesitant to try out the Maverick, as I already had a disc with similar listed numbers covering that slot. However, it was a little inconsistent for me, so I decided to try a Maverick. Well, best decision ever. If you are a slower arm speed, this could possibly be the perfect driver for you. If you're throwing bigger distances, this is a great fairway driver for some tighter woods shots where you want to get solid distance, but don't want to throw 100% and lose that accuracy. Makes some nice S-turns with very gentle fade back on any shot that requires that line, regardless of being wooded or not. Can also work for nice turnovers, especially as it beats in. I started with a lucid maverick, and now bag a lucid-x maverick as well for just a touch more stability. These are a great complement to the more stable explorer. I can cover just about any line I need with those two molds alone. Highly, highly recommend trying this disc.

I've started to trust this disc more and more, but if you try to use it for certain shots it can all go wrong in a hurry.

I'm bagging this disc in Lucid at 174 g, for tailwind shots or uphill shots, this is a nice point and shoot disc.  In any kind of headwind or downhill it's likely to get away from you to the right.  I have a hard time hyzer flipping this disc, so I really only use it in situations described above.  This slots in between a Tournament Underworld (super flippy) and a Champion TL3 (Straight) and I use it usually a couple of times per round depending on conditions.  It would be good for beginners or at about 70% power for more experienced players.  Good woods disc..

The Maverick is a very finicky disc. If you throw it light, you will find that it either flies slightly stable or will flip to a slight anhyzer. On even the slightest bit of power, it will flip hard to the right. If you throw it on too much hyzer, it never seems to flip up. Maybe I got a bad mold, but I have never had a great experience with this disc.

So this is truly the first 2 Star review I have written, and it is with some reservation. The Maverick is a very interesting mold. Under low power and with some finesse, it will fly on lines unlike any other disc, just not very far and is very susceptible to wind shear.  Under power, hang on because this is an extremely unpredictable disc, and yes still very susceptible to wind shear. I tried and tried to like this disc, and sometimes I threw such an amazing shot, on a line I didn't think was there, however the vast majority was this disc flying way off course and doing many things unintended. It may earn a spot in your bag, it most certainly did not in mine.

The Lucid Maverick is one of the most inconsistent discs I have thrown.  I have gotten fantastic throws from it from very long turnovers, long hyzer flips, and laser shots against wind and/or hills.   However, for every great shot I have gotten with it there are at least two "how did that happen" shots.    I tried for several months to make this discs consistent for me but ultimately the Witness took this spot in my bag

A Fairway driver for all player types. I would recommend this any level of player looking to add some distance with some full S flights, or learn how to start throwing controlled turn over shots. In the Lucid plastic, its a nice neutral in the discs stability, not a super understable Maverick, but not as stable as the Lucid X Maverick.

Absolutely love this disc. I'm pretty new to the game so for my arm speed I have found this to be pretty perfect for my backhand drives. For a speed 7 I can get surprising distance with all the glide the mav has. For me it's pretty dead straight with some mild fade. Once I perfect my form I'm sure it will be a nice s curve disc. It also flew wonderfully right out of the box which is one reason I've fallen in love with dynamic discs.

The Maverick is a neutral flying fairway driver from Dynamic Discs. The Maverick has a true fairway rim, making it very comfortable in the hand. Many other "fairway" drivers from Dynamic have wider rims. The Lucid plastic was comfortable and durable. The flight was very neutral for me. When thrown with power, the Thief would have some slight turn, but would fade back at the end. It was an easy disc to power down as well, and become a bit more stable when thrown with less power.  The Maverick is a nice, true fairway driver from Dynamic.

As soon as I picked up and tossed my First Run Lucid Maverick, into the bag it went. It's got a super comfortable rim size, it's a usable disc for all skill levels. For me, I release my RHBH on a slight hyzer. The Maverick will stand up, ride ever-so-slightly to the right, but just goes straight for days.

LOVE the Maverick. I was devastated when I lost my Frost Line River (now OOP), and I was afraid the River in other plastics would be too squirrely since the Frost could barely hold my hyzer flips, so I decided to try the Maverick for my understable fairway replacement. The Maverick saved me from my despair. I would definitely say it has more than 4 glide - easily 5, maybe 6. I have a Lucid and a Biofuzion. The Biofuzion is my main distance driver when I am out of practice because of the glide/stability combination, and the Lucid is for when I just need a little bit more stability than what the Biofuzion can give. Definitely the perfect understable counterpart to the Explorer. Between my Bio and Lucid Mavericks and Gold and Opto Explorer, I have every fairway shot covered.

I have a first run Maverick lucid I purchased as one of my first golf discs ever.  What I discovered when I started was that it seemed to go everywhere,  but never where I wanted.

As I progressed as a hucker of plastic, The Maverick began to come around.  Now, I love the thing.  The Maverick is very sensitive to power and angle.  More so than any disk I own.  That being said, you can create a number of shots with it.  You can turn it, flip it, throw it dead straight, soft hyzer, or whatever you can imagine.  It is a bit wind sensitive, so be careful.

The other thing I notice is that it is super glidey.  I would rate it as a 6 glide straight up.  It always seems to go about 10 - 30 feet farther than it looks like it should.  This disc really likes it when you  back off the power just a bit.  I shouldn't have bought this right off, but now I'm glad I own it.

When I first got this disc, I dismissed it, thinking it was too understable for me to use.  I was very wrong. This disc acts a lot like an Escape without really any effort.  It has a very similar flight path, but a touch shorter.  I can get a BH out to about 300-350 with a nice and smooth throw.  I find myself grabbing this disc over the Escape just because I don't have to put as much into it.
Another disc this gets picked over is a River.  I like how I get more of a finish to the left with this than the River which finishes straighter.  That allows me to use it for times when I need to get it around a tree, or don't have a straight shot at the basket. The only reservation I have is how it will act when it gets beat in, it might become too flippy at that point.

Any person needing a flippy fairway/control driver that will flip and finish right needs a maverick. The maverick is an outstanding understable fairway driver. It is the perfect choice for that slot in any players bag. For beginners it will work well as an introductory to higher speed discs. It will offer them a chacne to get great distance on a straight line without compromising form too much due to its understability. For those with higher arm speed it will serve as a disc great for those situations where you need a laser straight shot with little deviation out to about 300 feet. If released flat, the maverick will turn right gradually for the whole flight and never come back. If released on a good 30 degrees of hyzer, the maverick will flip up and begin to slightly ride right for about 15-20% of the flight. Then it will finish straight or come back just a tad at the end. As far as forehands, I love this for turnover forehands, or low-effort touch forehands that need to not finish right and remain straight. All-in-all this disc is awesome. It just takes getting a little use to.

TL;DR This is the control driver I've been trying to find for almost a year and may be the most momentous change to my bag since adopting the Emac Truth. It is hands-down the most reliable driver in my bag and a great option for primarily forehand players like myself (it throws great backhand too, of course). It's a powerful weapon for the intermediate player looking for shot placement and/or a perfect new driver for a beginner with a weaker arm.

Until this point, I'd thrown mostly Rivers and Saints depending on the distance I was trying to cover. I was always interested in a Trilogy control driver with a lower profile and a little more fade. I turned to the Convict and Longbowman. I ended up liking these discs and I bag them both, but they come in too 'hot' in some circumstances where I need the disc to sit.

When the River Pro came out I was psyched to try it, thinking it would be a fantastic compliment to my understable Rivers. It never turned out to be what I'd hoped. It wasn't reliable in my opinion, and the disc profile just didn't feel good to me.

In my opinion, this is what the River Pro should have been like.

It's extraordinarily beginner friendly. It will flip up on a powerful shot, or ride a dead straight line with a more conservative throw. It will make effortless S-shots, very gently turning and fading. It will take an anhyzer very smoothly with controllable speed and won't burn out by overturning.

More than anything it's the feel that has me so infatuated with this disc. The profile is a little like the River as I said, but flattened out like the River Pro should have been. The glide rating of 4 is definitely accurate, so it helps in woody shot placement situations. While I usually think Trilogy molds are more understable than their numbers suggest, I think this one is perhaps a little more stable, maybe due to the slimmer design with less glide.

Ultimately, it's an absolute must-have especially if you're a big trilogy fan. It really rounds out Dynamic Discs' line up which desperately needed a slower control driver. I'll surely buy more.

Lucid, 173g. The Maverick has more stability than a Seer or Underworld and makes a great understable complement to the Lat64 Explorer. Don’t worry about the 4 glide rating. The Maverick will stay in the air for a nice long flight.

Great speed for a beginning thrower, very easy to manipulate for turnover shots and overall reliable disc.

I picked up a first run Maverick and I am so glad I did. I throw this disc for turnovers and shot shaping in the woods because it is so controllable. It has a slow turn and almost no fade with tons of glide. This would make a good first driver for someone just starting out in the game, and it works well in an experienced players bag for rollers and turnovers.

I really wanted a fairway driver that I could throw flat and it glide right and not fade that much and this disc is it.  On top of that is has some sneaaaaaky distance.  Great disc, all new players should try this one out.

This disc is a beginner's best friend! For me it was very flippy, possibly a little more than the flight ratings suggest. But if I don't throw at full power, it ends up going quite far. I can see how this would be an amazing disc for beginners or lower speed arms, because it does like to fly, it's just pretty flippy.

The rim size is small and perfect for gripping (I'm a fan of the thinner rims). To me this is Dynamic's Leopard, and I think it'll be popular for a long time to come for the beginners. This is a good release from Dynamic, as it is something I haven't quite experienced from them.

All I had heard about the maverick before I threw it was that it was very Understable. The first couple throws I threw with this made me think otherwise. But as I kept throwing it, I understood why everyone was saying it was understable. The one place I have found success throwing this disc, is in a tail wind. Seemed to do quite well. Every other situation where I have thrown this disc, it seams to be unpredictable.

This disc is starting to grow on me. I normally would reach for a mid range before grabing one of these out of my bag. For being understable it does have a decent amount of fade which makes it fun to shape shots with. Very leopard like but c'mon dawg that lucid plastic is the best.

If you're looking for the gentle turnover shot that will smooth out at the end of its flight this is your disc. If you're looking for DD's version of a leopard this is your disc. If you want a disc you can shape lines with this is your disc. Great disc from DD, very versatile and find myself using in more and more situations. My only complaint is that it is kind of a touchy disc. You really have to find the sweet spot on it to get that high speed turn that you would want to see. Great disc when you get the hang of it.

The Maverick is a great fairway driver for straight, precision throws. It flies wonderfully and predictably at lower power. With my shoulder currently experiencing pain at high speeds, this was a disc that felt great to throw. For new players, this would be a wonderful starting driver. It will fade a bit at the end, but not at all dramatically. If you throw it harder, then it goes farther and straighter. I didn't find it flippy at all, though I imagine an experienced player going full power might flip it over. It holds an anhyzer line perfectly. It basically flies on the angle of release, so you can tame it and shape your shots. I would think this is the kind of disc that can match up to some of the most well-known fairway drivers in the market. It has great glide too, so it gets even more distance than you expect for the lower speed. It can handle torque better than some other speed 7 discs as well.

Great job, Dynamic Discs, for making a disc that works for a lot of different players. This one is a keeper!

    I'll do 5 reviews!:

    174 SE (7, 6, -1.5, 1.5)

You know how people ask for a trilogy version Leopard, FD, etc and the answer is always that's a unique disc that there is no comparison to? This is like that for DD, in a fun, unique way. I played an entire round with this throwing this on every line I could, in tail winds, headwinds etc. Here's the rub: This is a GLIDEY disc. Like crazy glide. And what's fun about this disc is the great S's you can throw with it when thrown flat. Or if you throw it on a little hyzer and it will stand up and just stay dead nuts straight. It will hold a long hyzer line too when thrown on a more "regular" hyzer angle. I can also throw nice anhyzers with this too.  Give it some height and tip the angle down a bit and it will fight out at the end nicely.  Now there is one thing about the disc, is it definitely has a "touchy" point where if you get that wing down a bit, it's cut rolling or if you try and throw too much anny on it, it's gonna cut roll. So you definitely need to watch your angles. This will be amazing in wooded areas where you need to hit a wide variety of lines.  Lastly I have been working on my forehand (which is not good) and this is a fantastic disc to learn with, the stability and speed is spot on for a newbie forehand.

    Lucid 175 (8,6, -.5, 1.5)

This disc is definitely more stable than it's SE counterpart, but just as glidey.  When I throw this flat it has the same flight characteristics as a hzyer flip shot. Just a little turn, long glide, easy fade.  I get almost the same distance out of this as my 8 & 9 speed drivers.  So it's not quite my max distance disc, but it's really close.  Incredibly dependable.

    Lucid 173 (8, 6, -1, 1.5)

As expected the 173 has slightly more high speed turn vs it's max weight counter part, but it has the same fade at the end.  No joke this is an ideal distance driver for most arm speeds.  Don't let that 7 speed fool you, this disc bombs!

    Lucid 170 (8, 6, -1.5, 1.5)

This is my favorite one!  You can shape sooo many lines with this weight.  This will fight out of a flex shot, perfect for weaving through the trees.  If you put a bit more anny on it, it will hold the anyhyzer but at the very end it will stable up.  Most versatile weight IMO.

    Lucid 167 (8, 6, 1.5, 1)

Slightly less fade than it's 170 counterpart with the same amount of high speed turn.

I gave the Lucid a speed of 8 vs a 7 with the SE.  I believe that is due to the grip, I am able to get into the Lucid a bit more vs the slicker SE plastic.  If you order the 175/3, 170 & 167 you can have all the shots you need with the same mold.  I know discs gets hyped each year, this one lives up to the hype!  If you are only going to get one, I recommend the 170 Lucid.
