I got this disc a long time ago as a mystery disc, and it had some really nasty flashing on it so I never really gave it a chance until recently. Mine is only 163 grams, so it's pretty light weight, but it this thing is amazing. The star fire flies for me a lot like how you see destroyers flying for the big power pro players. When I throw it hard it will get a little bit of turn and fly a long way the reliably come back. It's become one of by longest distance discs while also having amazing control. I can see myself getting a second one in a higher weight to try and have a more overstable complement.

For beginner players, the star fire could be a great first overstable distance driver. It's a little slower than a wraith or destroyer, so it'll be easier to get it up to speed and get some good distance to it, and it is reliably overstable to fight wind.

For more advanced players, I see the star fire sitting in a power/control driver slot that bridges the gap between max distance drivers and fairways.

The Starfire is a very reliable overstable driver. The 162g Valarie Jenkins model fits in my bag as a long fairway driver or short distance driver. It has its uses both forehand and backhand, though I usually use it backhand (RHBH). It will hold an anhyzer line for a long time before dumping left at the end, usually with some decent skip. I also throw it for high hyzer shots over trees, and it carries the line you want very consistently; it's reliability allows me to aim further from the trees because I know the disc will come back to land where I want it. I had previously received a 173g Legacy FIghter (10/4/0/4) that I thought I would use similarly, but the Starfire is much more versatile and has taken it's spot in my bag.

I recently introduced my friend to disc golf, and this was the first overstable driver I had him throw after getting the feel for some understable discs. He loves to set in on a high anhyzer line and let it spike back into the ground. With enough angle at the landing point, the disc will not skip, and its sharp rim helps grab the ground.

I would recommend this disc to anyone looking for an overstable long fairway driver! One of the most consistent discs in my bag.

    Disc: Starfire - Champion X-Out 175g

Feel: The Starfire mold is pretty blunt with a pretty good dome.  The champion plastic blend (blue) was a bit old school and felt different than the recent runs available now. The smooth shoulder to the top of the flight plate is the best part of the mold. The underside of the rim is very concave leading to a pretty sharp flashing along the rim makes it pretty uncomfortable to throw with a Forehand grip. Backhand grips feel fine but only after smoothing the rim.

Flight: The Starfire seemed very nose angle sensitive and didn't live up to the flight numbers assigned to it (10/4/0/3). With those numbers, I expected it to stand up to headwinds better but the high speed flight barely fought back to the line of release when throwing it like a distance driver. It was difficult to get the Starfire to go where I expected.

Impressions/Comparisons: I expected a lot more overstability out of the Starfire, and it turned out it was just stable. Angle of release and nose angle are key to keeping the disc overstable as a hybrid between the fairway and distance driver speed discs. Comparable flight to a Discmania PDx but less overstable & wind resistant. Less distance than the Discmania DD. I don't expect it to fit my bag but the Starfire may work best for those with less than Distance Driver arm speed as a overstable hybrid and suited to a beginner more than a experienced one if they can't find a Wraith or DD with enough stability.

This thing is STRAIGHT! I put this on a line and it holds perfectly straight until it fades reliably at the end of the flight. I put this thing on hyzer and it holds the hyzer the whole way. I put anhyzer on it and it holds until it fades at the end. I love this disc.
