Have had one in my bag for many years.  I have it in max weight, champion plastic, and it fades reliably regardless of circumstance.  Headwinds, crosswinds, small tree branches, etc. have minimal impact on it's flight pattern.  My go-to disc for problematic weather or controlled distance where it needs to end with a fade.  Comfortable for both forehand and backhand throws.  Advertised numbers on the disc are basically accurate - regardless of torque I put on it, it has minimal turn and reliable fade at a level release.  The same low glide that gives it reliability does make it less suitable for beginners.

My all time favorite disc in that overstable 10 speed range. One of the farthest going 10 speeds I've thrown while still being very reliable and has great integrity in the wind. Champion plastic is decently overstable out of the box. Pro plastic is very straight - would be more beginner friendly.

The champion starfire is a decent disc. I think mine is an older mold because on the disc the flight numbers are changed to reflect the stability of the champion plastic. Mine feels pretty tall in the hand. It flies pretty well, it is pretty overstable. I imagine a new champion one is a tad less stable than a firebird. I used it as a replacement for my firebird for a little while until I got a new one. It just isn't quite as good as discs similar to it such as a firebird, thunderbird, or orc. But it still flies well and is worth a try.

This is a very dependable disc with a slightly overstable finish. For reference, I have champion plastic at 172 grams. It is a distance driver with a fairly wide rim so you know you can grab some distance with this disc. It is great for me personally when thrown on flex lines and anhyzer shots because it can bite off a little more distance that way and may change your game in adding 25-30 more feet than a fairway driver. When thrown on hyzer, this disc holds true and even flips up a little for me to hold the line and finish dependably to the left for a right hand back hand. When thrown hard and flat, there is a slight turn before a pretty good fade and finish. And as previously mentioned, an anhyzer holds fairly well before fighting out of it and finishing a bit overstable. This disc beat in is pretty reliable and can be used for some hyzer flips and straight shots. This may be a really good first distance driver for a relatively new player to throw whenever they are ready. Also, the speed is low enough for a beginner to see some success throwing this. All in all, it feels great in the hand  and the Tim is very comfortable for a distance driver.

I absolutely love the Starfire mold. My first disc was a Pro Starfire back in 2017. I later purchased a Champion Dyed Starfire that same year that I managed to keep until recently losing it unfortunately. Then I purchased a new Champion Starfire and have absolutely loved it back in my bag since its return. Forehands that I need to stretch before fading, as well as backhands that I need similarly.

    171g Champion Starfire

I have an older champion starfire that has since been replaced by the Discraft Anax, but the starfire is great. It's consistent, easy to throw, and it sticks true to the flight numbers. This disc won't flip over on you which is nice, mine is very old and beat up but still has its strong overstable finish. On a flat release, this disc goes straight for a while and dumps out at the end, anhyzer it rides the anny for about half the flight and then flips back over, and on a hyzer it'll hold the hyzer the full flight for shorter distance. This disc is comfortable for forehand and backhand as well. Definitely recommend for someone in need of an OS high speed fairway driver.

These are very orc like but with more overstability and glide. Flight is like a teebird but requires more power to get that flight. Rim shape is also similar. The ones i've owned typically have dome, in a good way. If you are looking for a teebird type disc for head winds, low ceilings, or some thing that can get more skip or left finish, this might be a good option for you. It's speed is a hybrid speed. For this reason I no longer use them. Still a great disc.

This is my review for the champion Starfire, I have also thrown the Starfire in star plastic, and the Starfire L in both star and pro plastic. The champion Starfire is an excellent control driver that is always predictable. Unlike many other drivers that are meant to have an equivalent flight to the numbers 10-4-0-3, the Starfire is able to hold these numbers in any wind. I've thrown the PD and vulture, both of which will turn over in moderate headwind. The Starfire does not. I'd say 10-4-0-3 is very accurate, maybe a touch more stable fresh out of the box. This disc has a wide rim for a 10 speed disc and comes out of the hand very fast. I've found as these discs wear in you can expect nearly destroyer type distance. I throw these from 400'-450' and they provide an extremely predictable flight. These discs also sidearm incredibly well. If you're looking for a sidearm disc that's a step further than a firebird, but slower than a destroyer, this might be your disc. When buying one of these understand that the pro Starfire is very understable compared to the champ, and some star Starfire's may also be a Starfire L. All in all this is a great disc and I highly recommend this. I bag 4 myself

The Starfire is a very underrated driver. The ones I've had the privilege of throwing have been very Thunderbird-like but with a deeper profile. The deeper profile gives me more control in the woods.

When it comes to stability it's not too overstable. If you have the power, it will fly a nice straight line for ~100m and then fade a little. Can be compared to a straighter Discmania PD.

Subjectively, I'm not the biggest fan of forehanding this disc, due to the depth of the rim (deep profile).

Unfortunately I haven't tried it in different plastics, so I can't really compare the plastics when it comes to stability. All I can say is that if your curious about this disc, do give it a chance. If the PD and the Thunderbird had a baby, they would probably name it Starfire.

The Starfire is a great control driver with some solid stability. Some many people sing the praises of the Thunderbird and the PD, but this disc is very similar to those and really doesn't get the credit. I think the rim is a hair wider then those other two, but its still comfortable in hand. Brand new these are great wind fighters that overtime turn into nice straight drivers. One thing to note, the pro version of this disc is actually the SL, or less stable version. It is a great disc too, but beware the differences.

The Starfire is a perfect overstable/stable fairway driver comparable to the Innova Thunderbird. I bag 2 Starfires for straight backhand drives that will fade reliably at the last 20% of its flight. You can mash on these discs and expect them to hold up to a lot of power. The Starfire is great for low line drives if you are fighting low ceilings, but require good distance and fade. I also use the Starfire for straight forehands when thrown with some hyzer/flat. When flicked on an anhyzer the Starfire will slowly turn left before having a soft finish back to the right. It isn't the best disc for a beginner, but if you are looking for a stable fairway driver that you can force over with subtle power this is a great choice.

The original step up in stability from the Orc. A very reliable, consistent, fairly overstable driver. At the time the Starfire was first released it was about the fastest thing out. Obviously that isn't the case anymore, but I still feel like the Starfire remains a very relevant driver.

You pretty much know what you're getting with the Starfire, and it can be used to precisely carve out pretty much any drive out to 400' or so. It isn't a great glider and won't break any distance records, but its overstability makes it predictable in whatever wind situation you choose to throw it in.

Not a disc for beginners or weak arms. The Starfire takes some pretty good arm speed to make it flatten out and fly. It doesn't really have any high speed turn and a weak throw with the Starfire will get no real distance.

I've bagged a Champion for years and will continue to do so. For shots that are barely too long for fairway drivers but short of max distance drivers, the Starfire does the job perfectly. Its my favorite Innova speed 10 driver.

I think the starfire is a great disc.  To me, it's the perfect driver for solid distance (not max D) and control.  This disc to a beginner will be a bit too overstable, unless it is a Pro Starfire, in which I highly recommend.

The Champion is a bit more stable and handles power and moderate wind.

For an advanced player This is a disc that flies a nice straight line and can handle power.  The flight ratings I would give it would be 10/4/-1/2 .

This is a disc I can pull out in most driving situations and know I can throw a strong shot with a slight hyzer release and it will stand up ride straight, bend over just a little bit, then have a reliable fade back to center and likely a little left of where I am aiming.

It can handle a forehand, it can be shaped.  All around this is a great driver that is a control distance driver, not max distance, not fairway, Definitely in the speed 10 category.  All around an excellent disc.  Though plastics, weight, and condition will affect this disc....more beat, lighter, or cheaper plastic will make this disc act much more understable, keep that in mind.   A Champ around 172g is excellent for the shots I'm describing. ;)

***Update: I was generously gifted a 175g Star Starfire PFN.  The comparison to my Champ is that there was slight higher PLH.  The flight on this disc was very similar as my previous review, but a very noticeable end of flight-> which was a harder LSS hyzer fade.  Not that it hyzered 'more' per se, but it lost its steam on the straight line earlier.  Still great disc, handles power great, and can be thrown very straight for upwards 200ft then has some fade.  Great for flexing smooth anhyzers to fade center or to be able to throw with confidence and trust the disc to hyzer and end up slightly left of center (RHBH)

Garbage disc in the champion mold. Pretty experienced player and backhand I hated this thing. Overstable disc but played even MORE overstable than the numbers indicated. I can control the Missilen way better than this and even the Innova Monster. The only success I found with this disc was occasionally slinging it decent on forehand shots. By far the most disappointing disc I have ever bought. Traded mine in for a star TeeDevil and couldn't be happier!

When I first got this disc I primarily used it for mostly straight shots with a strong fade at the end. As my arm speed has increased Ive found that this disc can actually be thrown a long was, reliably, and accurately.  If you’ve got a lower speed arm this could make a great tomahawk or great disc to get around an obstacle, a faster arm speed could make a good distance disc for you.
