Can't say I ever fell in love with this disc. It flies decently straight but doesn't get a whole lot of distance without overpowering it. I usually end up throwing either a Polecat or a Leopard instead. Definitely has potential, just doesn't quite work with me.

After light use, the DX version is probably already more of a 1 Fade: definitely not as stable as other 2-Fade discs I've been using. I might also give it a lower glide than a four as it usually ended up around the 3-glide putters I was field testing at the same time. The feel of the disc is good, though, and its flight is pretty reliably straight until its modest fade at the end.

Summary: A great beginner mid that teaches you what you like in a disc.

Feel: DX plastic is a pretty okay baseline plastic, grip is okay and durability is also okay. The shape is strange in the way that it looks like a putter that just shrunk up a bit. It's very comfortable with its soft corners and rounded edges.

Flight: The numbers are pretty true to flight for beginners, but seem to be slightly off for players that throw a little farther. As you throw father with this disc it'll have just a touch of flip up, but not enough to call it unusable.

This came in a starter kit, my first 3 discs.

And I got amazing results with it.  I used it as a midrange, of course, but more often approach, and discovered it even putts really good - I did better with it, than with the Aviar.  For a long putt, it'll fade at the end so it doesn't go too far if you miss the basket. And I learned to time it so that the fade brings it right into the chains. Very satisfying.

It's just great - but only for a while:  I highly recommend the Shark in Star (or GStar) plastic. (DX is the reason for the -1star).  After a season, I don't even know what numbers it has now.  Sometimes it'll just go straight like a Luna or BuzzzSS or Mako, sometimes have a -1 turn, sometimes go straight and have a hint of a fade - broken-in DX is something you want to donate to a new player.

If you can't find a Shark in other plastics, try a gstar Roc or a honeybee Ghost and let it beat in for a season.  Other similar discs are the Z Buzzz, Z Nebula, and innova's King Cobra, to name a few.

A fantastic beginner mid, as long as it's over 170g. Flies very straight, with maybe a little fade at the end for lower-speed throws. As newer players grow, this becomes a predictable, intuitive midrange that will hold straight or maybe turn over just a touch. It tends to hold the line you put it on, but powerful throwers can still use it as a fairly reliable hyzer flipping midrange. Also versatile enough to use as a long-range putter!

This is a great overstable disc, reminds me of a slower, floaty teebird. Great for parking near the basket, going for it, or even for putting. The DX version is very nice to throw and the beaded rim makes for better control. This disc is better as a backhand disc, the beaded rim can make it hard to throw for harder shots. Overall love this mid-ranger, its  easy to control and predictable.

I see a lot of hate for the Shark and don't really understand it, but I am a beginner so that might have something to do with it.  I got my DX Shark in an Innova starter set.  I absolutely love this disc.  I might not down the road but this is the disc I could trust and throw the furthest starting out.  Great and predictable flight path.  Really good for learning to throw straight.

The DX Shark was one of my first two mids. Unfortunately, the other was a Buzzz and that won the slot. That being said, the Shark is still a great disc for beginners or experienced players alike, as I've had some great shots with it. If you are a fan of Innova and don't want a mid in the Roc family, I would definitely recommend checking out a Shark. Aside from the Buzzz being a Buzzz, the only thing that really me this disc lose the slot in my bag was that it was dark red/maroon, which being in dulled DX plastic makes it very difficult to locate during field work. Anyways, it's definitely worth a shot if you're looking for a solid mid.

Probably the first Mid-range every beginner has thrown and also one the best. Its a great disc to introduce yourself to the sport with and will give you a great level of control. As they beat in they will become more flippy bit this will give you a new shot type to learn so it will continue to provide value.

Best mid-range for a beginner. It is what comes in every packet. I used to like this disc as it had a nice stable flight. It is now very beat-in and is understable. I don't have it in my bag due to this. I still recommend this for any new players out there as it will help you grow confidence in your game

I throw a 179g Shark. It sat on my closet shelf for two years and I took it to my home course to see if I should keep it or sell it. I parked it on an extreme downhill, tight tee shot and immediately decided that it belongs in my bag. For me, it's a good headwind midrange that feels good in my hand and sits where it hits. If I gain a 3 stick lead in a match or become erratic off the tee, I will go to the Shark and smooth it down the fairway, This makes for a lot of low stress, easy pars.

This is a great beginner disc to most but it just wasn't the one for me... For some reason, it always seemed to make an awkwardly understable flight for me. And even when the flight was fairly standard, it had a tendency to sink, not glide. It's possible that I got a faulty disc and it's also possible that I was just bad at throwing the disc when I first got it, but from my experience, it just wasn't reliable enough.

I love the Shark! This is a great midrange disc for straight shots, and I trust my Shark to cut through tight gaps in the woods. Its speed and glide are perfect for 200-250 foot holes, so I'm often driving with the Shark off the teepad. One of the first staples in my bag was a DX Shark. I would highly recommend this disc for beginner disc golfers!

The shark was a disc I was lukewarm about when I first got in in my Innova starter pack. After I got more experience and better form, this disc is one of my go tos. After a bad tee shot, I can use my Shark to get a perfect lay up almost every time. Really accurate and easy for me to bend in different ways to avoid trees and other obstacles. I never hear anyone of my friends using it so I feel it is underrated. I also got a young kid one in 145gr dx plastic and he can rip it verses other molds I had him try. Might try to get it in a premium plastic here soon.

The Shark is a good midrange for a beginner.

It has a good feel in the hand, and a smooth release.  It is a fairly straight flyer with a solid left finish (RHBH).  It is a good disc to help a beginner work on form and understand how to use angles on the course.

Once you have solid form and crisp arm speed, the flight numbers are less reliable.

I bought a Roc after hearing philo Brathwaite rave about it and watching his In the Bag where he has like 12 different Rocs.

Honestly, I did not like the Roc at all at first. It was not straight as everyone says. It was wayyyy overstable. As it has broken in more and more, I am finding that I like it more and more also. It is straightening out, but is stable enough to hold up to power.

I have also been throwing the Innova Shark in the same situation and find it to be not as overstable when new, but breaks in to a good flip to flat and ride right sort of disc. It seems to have a touch more glide also. I can see the Shark filling the same slot for amateurs that a Roc does for Philo and other pros.

The Shark is the quintessential beginner mid-range. It flies straight and will teach players to not overthrow their discs, but rather be smooth with their form and throw.

That said this is not just a disc for beginners. When you work in a DX Shark it can be one of the most smooth turnover mid-ranges out there. It works great for get out of trouble patent pending shots as well.

The disc itself fits well in the hand, but is not a flat topped disc. The disc get overshadowed by the Roc within Innova's lineup, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try it. It is a fantastic disc for a smooth thrower and works especially well in the woods.

This is the Shark in DX plastic. I have a 150g one that came in my beginner pack. I bought a few new midranges and thought I would never use this disc again. But lately, with the extra power in my throws, I've been using the Shark for straight and narrow fairways with little to no wind. Since it's a speed 4, throwing it hard will cause it to fly straighter for longer, with a gentle fade at the end. The DX plastic does get destroyed after a while, but it's only helped its straight flight for me.

For beginners - great starter disc for midrange shots (which will feel like driver shots in your first few weeks)

For intermediate players - next step above a putter. I would recommend a Mako if you want the same straight flight you get from throwing the Shark hard.

Disc - 180 Innova DX Shark

Feel - The shark feels very similar to the innova roc without the bead. It fits nicely in the hand and flies very well. DX plastic beats in very quickly but provides great grip in all weather.

Flight - If you enjoy cycling mids I would recommend trying out cycling max weight DX sharks. For a long time I did not like the feel of the roc so I used sharks in their place. They start out a bit straighter than the roc but turn into fantastic turnover mids.

Overall - I really enjoy the shark and I think others who don't like the feel of the roc will enjoy this disc as well.

This is a really good disc to begin on. Most of my friends started out with this, as it's all a beginner really needs. Our school let a lot of us borrow these, and you see plenty of people throwing them at courses for a reason. The flight is very straight with a bit of a fade at the end, which I find helpful for beginners to learn a bit more on turn and fade. Overall, a really solid starter disc if you've just picked up the game, or even if you're experienced.

Would highly recommend this to anyone that has an Ultimate Frisbee background such as myself. I was much more dedicated to Ultimate Frisbee before really getting into disc golf. The trust that I had to throw a particular short to mid-range shot precisely to one of my teammates is the same I have with this disc when seeking the chains. I have been able to throw in the chains easily when I'm standing 45 - 75 feet from the basket. I use a 154gm disc. I would not suggest throwing it hard down field like an ultimate disc but for short range this is money in my bag.

Being new to disc golf, it's difficult to know exactly what you should have in your bag to start out. I know I can't reliably throw high speed distance drivers yet, and I'm lucky when I can get a good toss out of my Cheetah. Midranges are the bread and butter of my game next to putting for me. Recently I played a round and decided I should try to limit the number of mids I play until I get a better understanding of exactly what I can get out of each one. Let me tell you, the Shark shined on the last round I played. It's easy to toss and will stay pretty flat and dip into a gentle fade at the end of its flight. The shark set me up for some great birdie opportunities in that round. It's pretty forgiving and will serve you well as you continue to learn the game. I will be throwing my shark a lot more frequently now that i'm getting more confident with it. Innova made a good choice to put this disc in their starter packs.

Literally THE beginner midrange. There is a reason this comes in the innova started kit and it's because it is super reliable in the hands of those who don't necessarily have flawless form yet. It has a small fade at the end of the flight to finish towards the basket which is always nice. It is easy to beat in since its just the DX plastic so thats the only con about the disc is it might get a few chips taken out early on by an errant tree. I love throwing this off high elevated hills for big floatie turning shots. Anything under 150 feet I'll even throw it off the teepad sometimes because of how the reliability of the flight pattern. Overall, great disc for beginners and intermediates and even maybe the occasional seasoned veteran pro.

Great beginner disc! I threw this a lot as I was first learning. Now, it has lost a place in my bag due to my being more confident throwing putters. When I want to throw longer than a putter (250+), I just move straight to my speed 5 mid-range options (Roc3, Truth, or Buzzz), skipping over the speed 4 Shark. But it served me very well in the beginning and though it lost a place in my bag, it still has a place in my heart :)

I believe the shark gets a bad wrap as being a beginner disc, but this is a great disc for everyone.  I threw a max weight DX shark that had a great tacky feel for a few months.  As it beat in I could throw it on hyzer and let it flip up and glide straight to slight turnover depending on the power I gave it.  While it is a different disc from the roc, it flys just like a roc for me but a little less stable.

I met a new disc golfer on the course with a very overstable disc playing and I gave my shark to him since he needed something less stable to throw.

I throw a DX Shark 168g, and my farthest shot to ever go in the basket was around 125-175 ft, and I'm pretty sure that is a record. This disc may be overstable, but it is also ridiculously versatile, and it can fly any mid-range line at all, and it is my go-to mid-range for long or medium approaches, and also for medium length drives, because this bad boy flies so far, I can throw it almost as far as my go-to driver for max distance. This disc is absolutely underrated. It's like an Innova version of the Emac Truth, just better in the wind. I think every player needs to bag either a Roc or Shark for a mid-range disc. I set a record for longest shot into the basket ever at my home course with this disc. If you need a nice, straight, otherwise overstable mid, get a Shark. Mine is more like a 4/4/-0.5/1.5, so mine is a laser-focus straight mid.

    Innova Starter Pack DX Shark

I used this disc for a long time from the Innova DX starter pack. This disc serves its function, its good for beginners who are learning to use discs. It's stable out of the box but understable as it beats in, which means it doesn't take too much power to throw and it's pretty easy to be accurate with. The DX plastic beats in quickly so not a disc you should expect to use for a long time, but good if you're just deciding if you want to get into the sport or not.

DX Shark 175g - I primarily throw RHFH, so this disc doesn't exactly fit my style. However, even with my noodle backhand, this disc is a reliable flyer in the woods. It is very beginner friendly with a small fade at the end. It isn't the best in a head wind, but it is great for anyone wanting to learn a backhand play style and trusty enough in the woods. Good disc!

Very beginner friendly!! Got this with the innova started kit and this disc goes perfectly straight. It has a small fade at the end of the flight. It is easy to beat in so it shouldn't be a problem getting this disc to fly straight. My younger brother (14 years old) loves throwing this. He even throws this over drivers sometimes because of how straight it goes. Overall, great disc for beginners and intermediates alike.

The shark is another one of those great beginner discs that anyone can utilize. It comes in the starter set from Innova and it is in there for a good reason. This is one of those discs that comes out of the box slightly stable, you can throw them very straight with a nice fade at the end of the flight. I think the biggest plus side this disc has is when you beat them in. With enough work on the disc you can get something that can be thrown on a ton of angles giving you so much versitility. It is very hard to find discs that let you manipulate them like the shark can. I could not give it a 5 star because with my current arm speed the shark is not my favorite disc anymore. Mine is very beat in now and it is just so finicky to get it to fly how I want it. But this disc could definitely be a big staple in anyone's bag and I think the shark from the starter set is a perfect beginner disc for people.

When I started playing, I had the 150g DX starter set Innova sells (Leopard, Aviar, Shark) and I IMMEDIATELTY fell in love with the shark. As I later found myself buying news discs in premium classic and higher weights, I still kept my shark in the bag because my confidence soared whenever it was in my hand. Eventually, I bought a 180g DX Shark. It flew slightly more stable than my 150g out of the box and eventually beat in to being pretty understable, but still incredibly workable. Now it is one of the best discs in my bag. With how seasoned it is, I can throw it flat for super gradual and glidey turnovers, or throw it on hyzer and it flips up and rides dead straight with no finish either way. Far and away the straightest disc in my bag when I throw it like that.

It just feels so good in my hand, flies so true and is so glidey, now I think I'm going to by a shark3 so the shark can cover turnovers, straights, and overstable flights for my mids.

This is a great multipurpose, easy to control disc. It has incredible glide and will hold any angle you throw it at. It also works well for rollers and short turnovers. This is the perfect midrange for beginners!

When I mainly threw Innova, I tried to get behind the Roc as my primary midrange. But, I never really gave it much of a chance and didn't have the skill when I was just staring out to really utilize the disc. I did, however, really like my Shark and threw it often. The disc was a straight shooter with a ton of glide, nabbing me a handful of 100-150' throw-ins in my first 2 or 3 years playing. I would recommend this disc for players who want to begin to learn their midrange game without having too much of a leap from their putters. Solid disc that is put in the Innova Starter pack for a reason!

I got a 149 gram version of this from a starter pack from Innova. It at first did nice hyzers for me when I was a beginner but no it just does a roller on a normal release because of how light it is. I would only recommend this for beginners unless you're getting, say, a 175 gram version of this disc. If I had to use this discn ow, I would throw it very lightly on a spike hyzer angle so it doesn't turn into a roller, but for beginners it works great

A great starter mid-range, I give this to all the new players that come out with me. For experienced players, give it a good enough flick and it has a very smooth, gradual fade.

Anybody can find a use for the Shark given its variety of weights and plastics. Since it's in the beginner pack, it really goes without saying that it's a great beginner midrange. Easy enough to get up to speed and stable enough to hold that speed for a while. It might not be a spectacular disc for more advanced players (although it could still have uses), but it is one of the best first midranges to give a player.

Good ol faithful Shark disc. This is often the mid range that people start out with, and for a reason. Super straight flyer and good feeling in the hand.

Flight: You can count on the shark to fly straight when you throw it. That's why it's in the Innova beginner pack. Good for all arm speeds and easy to craft to the shot that you want. It will glide nicely and fall softly without the hard fade.

Uses: Throw the Shark anytime you need a straight throw. Oh, that's pretty much all the time? Well, then perfect, this is the disc for you. Great for tunnel shots or just even longer approach shots. Very dependable, so you can use it and trust it for more subtle hyzer or anhyzer lines as well.

Summary: If you're looking for a straight flying dependable disc, then I would pick up a Shark or a Roc. Just choose the one that feels better in your hand. You can't go wrong with this disc.

OK where to start. First off every new player should have this disc. Brand new this disc flies super straight with a nice reliable fade at the end. This disc is Super underrated. I tried but couldn't get used to the bead. In the DX plastic it feels great and beats in nicely. I cycle through a couple and carry 4 in the bag to cover almost every midrange shot. I think some people are scared off because its a great beginner disc, but i think any player could use this disc.

I got my 150g yellow Shark as one of my first discs in an Innova starter set. I played my first 3 rounds with this and an Aviar. You can't ask for a better beginner disc. Flies straight with a bit of fade, and for a while was the longest disc in my bag while I was working on my consistency. I love it so much I got a GStar to go along with the DX. It's my primary upshot disc and the fade is so consistent parking 100' is no problem.

The Shark is a disc that doesn't get enough attention anymore. It is one of Innova's older molds still in regular production, and for good reason. This is a workhorse midrange. Brand new, the Shark flies very straight with some stability at the end of the flight. As it wears in, you can really use it for everything. If you are lucky enough to have the old champion ones, you will have a nice stable Shark for in the wind. Don't be afraid to give the Shark a chance.

The Shark is one of the greatest midranges a player could throw. If you are a player that has always had trouble connection with beaded midranges like the Roc you should check out the Shark. Being a beadless midrange the Shark is perfect for players who rely on a fan grip to throw finesse and touch mid shots. I bag a pair of DX Sharks for really straight to understable drives/upshots. A brand new 180g Shark will fly dead straight with a very soft fade near the end of it's flight. In the softer more destructible DX plastic the Shark can be worked in to be a perfect turnover/hyzerflip midrange with tons of glide. In lower weights the Shark will start off as one of the straightest flying discs out there. This has been my midrange of choice since I started playing disc golf 5 years ago and I always loan them to my friends who are just beginning to get into the sport.

If you are interested in the different plastic types know that XT, Pro, and G Star fly similar to the DX plastic (Straight). However beware the regular star plastic. The star Sharks I have throw are super overstable and are reliable in any wind. They always hold a hyzer and fade hard.

I got this disc in a beginner set.  I used it less when I started playing more and bought "better" discs for my bag.  However, I recently pulled it out for a particular short downhill left dogleg hole.  It flew beautifully and landed next to the whole.  I have started using it more for short anhyzer shots where it fades right at the end and lands nice and soft where ever I was aiming.

The most underrated disc of all time. Even straighter than the Roc, and with a more comfortable all grip friendly bead less rim, the Shark is amazing. I have a couple 180 dxs that are well beat and still hold hyzers. Perfectly stable disc, can literally hold any angle in most conditions and have a nice short flip on forehands.

This was one of the first discs I got, and I had mixed feelings at first. As a newbie, my form and release angle was not that great. The Shark just dove right, so I didn't use it much. After practicing, which meant improving my form and release angle, I tried it out again. Literally, it will hold an arrow-straight line in all conditions. I realized it was my form that was bad at first, and it wasn't the disc. So, the way I see it, once you get your release where it needs to be, this is a must-have. For beginners, you can use it all you want, but if you never try to get your form right, it will not do what you want it to. So, long story short, beginners need to have this, but only if you can get it to go straight. And if it doesn't fly straight right away, it will eventually.

It was the shark that cemented my love of disc golf. Right off the bat, a newbie like me and my buddy could throw a DX shark and not make complete fools of ourselves on the course. I can't say the same for the starting driver that it came with in the 3-disc starter kit. The shark flies straight with a predictable fade, and for my first year, my 168g shark was my go-to driver even though it's a midrange. I don't use it as much as I used to, but I have my kids and my dad throwing sharks as newer throwers with slower arm speeds, and the shark is a very reliable go-to disc for them.

Max weight DX shark is a thing of beauty. It always finds a way back into my bag, no matter how many other midranges I try. It gets a bad rap because most people only throw the 150 class in the Innova starter pack, but don't let that fool you. 180g DX Shark is the best midrange on the market.

    DX 170g RHBH

First off, this is the first disc I ever purchased and learned to throw with. It stays in my bag for any straight shot I need on the courses I play. Also, the better I throw this disc in practice, the better I throw any other disc in my bag later on.

Mine has lost a bit of Fade since purchase (trees will do that to you they say), but it still flies quite straight from my use. I can toss it out over 200' easily without any tailwind from a standing position and without full arm power. It glides well and has a nice, turning fade at the end with little skip, but with some slide. I can also "putt" with it from a fair distance due to how level it will fly towards the basket.

I have noticed a bit of Turn coming into the disc at times with a headwind or a strong throw, which was not prevalent before when it was new in the same conditions, though my arm is a bit stronger now and the disc is becoming more "seasoned". That said, I will edit my review later on as this disc gets more "beat in" over time. Still, and as of now, the disc flies straight and hits dead on where I throw it.

As for Glide, this disc does glide well, flipping flat and sailing to 200' before I see any Fade kick in. On several occasions I have used this disc for forehand shots and watched as it flew slightly less in distance and hook well right to save me on a few holes, but still have nice, smooth glide until the fade broke it.

Regarding Fade, this disc will fade when it says it will. It will fade left every time no matter how you throw it. At roughly 25% - 30% of flight left and the disc will start to fade left no matter how hard you throw, and roughly the same regarding forehand shots as well, just to the right of course. Very predictable fade on this disc allows for great shot placement once you learn it.

All-in-all this disc wears many hats in my bag. Anything around 200' where I need a straight, level shot and the Shark comes out of the bag to try and nail it.  If I need a short hyzer shot, the Shark steps up. Just outside my actual putting range, the Shark comes into play. Quick forehand on a right bearing hole, and here comes the Shark. Matter of fact, I used only this disc for the first three rounds I ever played, and would have no issue doing it again now. Though I have other, higher dollar discs now in my bag, this disc is a staple for me. It is the disc I use and continue to learn on, and judge all other discs by now. (Hahaha!)

This is a pretty solid mid range, especially for beginners. It is so easy to throw, and it feels great in the hand. However, over time it became too understable for my liking. This is probably because of the plastic type and weight more than anything though.

Overall, it is a good disc. Probably one of the better midranges to start out with, but as I have become more experienced it has lost its appeal.

One of the top beginner discs out. I got mine in an Innova beginner 3 pack.  Perfect to learn to forehand on and get a reliable fade for a backhand.  As advertised: stable mid.  I do still think of this as more of a beginner disc I think there are better choices for Int players, EMac Truth being the main one.

I got my Innova Shark DX (150g) as part of a disc golf starter set for beginners from my local Meijer grocery store just about a year ago.  This mid-range disc served me decently when I was a straight-up noob without much disc golf experience, but the more I began to throw and the better my form got, the more I saw this disc wasn’t the best fit for my game.  When I was throwing my Shark consistently, I really liked how straight it flew.  There would be a little fade on the end of my of my throws, but overall my Shark flew very straight, which made it great to just take dead aim at baskets from over 100 feet and out.

I have since retired my Shark to the confines of my trunk and use it as a loner for new players I take out to the course who need a disc.  I now throw a few different Buzzzes as my go-to mid-range discs.

Got the ole Shark in my very first Innova 3-disc bundle pack along with a Leopard and Aviar. It's a great disc for beginners. It felt great in my hand and was comfortable. I learned how to play with this disc. I would say that if you really picking up the sport quickly, or you find yourself advancing pretty fast, there's a good chance you will outgrow a DX shark. They break in really quickly once they take a beating from trees and such.

From my observations, you will see a lot of newer guys throwing this disc. All of my friends who have been playing for years, they typically throw something other than Sharks.

This is a good disc to begin with, but you will out grown quickly if you play much.  I use this disc as an anhyzer disc (breaks to the right for right hand throwers) if I am 100 to 150 ft out.  If you are going out for your first round or two this is a good disc to throw as a driver since it is cheap and you won't max out the distance for a little bit.

This one was of my first mid range discs. At first, I didn't love the feel of the dx plastic, but once I threw this disc, I quickly loved its flight. I was glad to have a mid range that went exactly where I threw it. I could use this disc for drives or upshots and it would go exactly where I needed it to, on a very straight flight. This disc flies super straight and didn't fade hardly at all for me. I would recommend this discs for all beginners. It's versatile, useful, and easy to throw.

This disc is great for beginners it was my first midrange disc and I still use it today it is a good disc with a nice and reliable hook it is a nice disc for upshots intoheavily wooded areas. This disc is also a nice off the tee midrange that is easy to get distance off of

Great starting disc, but if you really find yourself liking it invest in some more durable plastic. My beat dx shark isn't too reliable for me any more. I can throw about 60-100 accurately with it, but anything else it will take a tilt a little after it has been thrown. For the most part it will hold straight shots and for that it is quite reliable. My friend actually hit his first ace over the summer with his dx Shark on hole 10 at vollrath in Sheboygan, WI.
