The Polecat is one of the straightest flying golf discs available. This isn’t a fast disc (speed rating of 1), but it will stay on the course better than almost any other disc. This is a tall putter (2.3 cm) with a deep rim. The feel of the putter is comparable to a small frisbee made for playing a game of pass, and this feel is preferable for some players who are transitioning to disc golf.

Very interesting disc. The numbers quite accurate, it truly has 0 turn or fade. It doesn't fly very far, but it will go exactly where you put it. I have used it both for putt and approach and it rarely me lets me down. So far the DX has held up pretty well, it hasn't really changed how it flies at all.

I would definitely recommend this disc if you want something that is very reliable and easy to throw.

Way back in the day, before this mold became a meme disc and I was just a dsic golf noob, I bagged this as my primary putting putter. Really I only carried 3 molds back then - a Pro Beast for a driver, a DX Spider for mid, and a DX Polecat to putt.

The reason I picked the Polecat is one of its best uses - it's very easy to control and it is a very intuitve disc for those coming from any kind of Frisbee background, or even just threw regular catch frisbees before trying golf discs. It is (or at least was at the time) pretty much the closest thing to a catch frisbee for a golf disc. It goes very straight, it has a slow glidey flight, and you don't really have to think about grip and form too much. Just point and shoot. It's great for floating in upshots and landing flat. There are some drawbacks though. The lidlike edge on this disc can cause some nasty rollaways if it stands up and rolls on a miss. For actually putting, I don't think it's the best thing to learn on either. The shape can turn some players off (understand this is a true lid style disc). It is not wind resistant at all.

I've never thrown this in a premium plastic or Halo, so I can't speak to that, but I have my original old stamp DX and a newer DX. The mold seems slightly different now from the old version, less floaty and a more stiff flight plate. I liked the old DX better, but it could be nostalgia. I don't bag this disc anymore, but it's still fun to get out from time to time and watch it float. I think this is potentially a good mold for beginners entering the sport because of it's intuitive nature. It can also be a good upshot disc for more seasoned player who can harness its uniqueness. But it's a niche mold with niche uses.

Dx Polecat - Overall a very fun disc. It flies straight and really does hold any line you put it on. 3.5 stars because it is a little weird and doesn't consistently go in the bag. But it is very fun and goes very straight. It would be a great disc for form work I think. It tells you if you put at off axis torque on it or your have weird releases. I think it could be a good training tool possibly. It also could be useful just for short bids at the basket from the 80-120 foot range.

    175g Innova Polecat DX

This is a beefy deepdish of a putter that some people will never find comfrtable. The Polecat feels like a heavy MVP Glitch. It is a smooth flier that goes where you aim it, but I understand if it is not for everybody. I have giant hands and this disc just feels right to me. I have always loved the Innova Nova in DX plastic and I think the Polecat will join it in my bag.

A great disc for learning to control release angle if you beginning to learn, and for a warm up game of catch before a round. Doesn't really have a use for my game in an actual round, except for maybe a flick of the wrist backhand where I cant get a full reachback, but still very fun to throw.

This is a great Putt and Approach disc. I use Yeti Aviars for putting and throwing off the the tee as wells as Pigs. When I need a straight floating disc, I grab the Polecat. It has a gentle glide and then slowly floats to the ground. I'm not kidding, it is a true Touch disc. If you need a putter that won't fly far but is straight and true, this is your disc.

DX flies understable pretty much whatever I do. The Halo is a hyzer-flip upshot beast, but understable if thrown with any power. (Bought 2 Halos, one came warped and unthrowable, thanks Innova) . A WIDE fan grip with my very large hands has helped me power this dog bowl of a disc through some flimsy low-hanging branches and into the basket. My recommendation is enjoy the memes, buy a Berg.

The Polecat is a disc that can not only be an ok putting putter, and exceptional thrower for beginners, but also a great medium range P&A. I use this disc mostly for running 100-150ft putts because of its straight flying.

It's a meme, its a dream, and out of our dream it became a meme.

Reviewing the Halo and DX polecat

    DX:

Flippy. 1 tree hit and you're now throwing the flippiest disc of all time. Kinda sucks IMO. Don't see any real purpose of this disc unless you're a true beginner and are learning form.

    4/10

    Halo:

Dream. Absolutely dream. Much more stable than its counterparts and flies so straight. It's easy to throw and holds up well to damage.

Plus its a meme disc which makes it better.

    500/10

This disc taught me how to putt. It feels a little bulky at times, but it flies straight. I had to move on from it, because I couldn't use it well from beyond the circle, but it was a great disc for learning how to putt.

Play along with me. You're eighteen years old and your big sister doesn't want to share the car anymore. You start looking around and realize you don't have the cash for anything that even rhymes with what you'd want to drive. Picture the 1995 Ford Ranger. The bumpers are rusted, but the interior is spotless. It was owned by a nice old man who lives alone in your neighborhood, his lawn is decked out in strategically placed lawn ornaments and on Halloween he is the first stop for most visitors. When he opens the trucks door to show you said interior, he is embarrassed by the two empty candy wrappers and quickly apologizes before cleaning them away. He reassures you of all the timely oil changes, but you know you're already gonna buy it. It's been four years now, you're in your last semester of college and you realize that even though it was your first car, you want to have it forever. If this car was a disc, it would be the Polecat. I wanted to come into this review so badly wanting to make fun of it, or try to position myself in a way that would make it seem like I was much too good a player for this disc. I simply can't. I can't remember a putter I made more shots with early on. My first 20 foot plus putt, or practicing driving with it only to have it slip out early or grip lock into oblivion. The flight is remarkably consistent, and once again Innova has aced the flight ratings. It flies like a Frisbee with no fade, and is welcoming to hold with the deep rim and grippy DX plastic. There will never be a greater speed 1 disc, for whatever that's worth. I won't say I'm too good a player for it necessarily, I just outgrew it. I have a Colt and Star Dart I love for putting now, and I'm still annoyed I gave away my Judge to my cousin. But, true to form of an aspiring amateur tournament winner, I have a series of specialized midrange, fairway, and distance drivers. My old Polecat belong's to my little brother now, and in a way the Polecat has taken a time machine from a 24 year old me to an 18 year old me. From a me that was worried about packing a scorecard, headphones, and beer to a me that was only worried about what his friends were up to that Saturday. Maybe this disc isn't a truck, its Woody from Toy Story awaiting the day to say "So long, partner." I love you, Polecat. Even though you were quiet about it, you and what you mean to me are one of the greatest things about disc golf.

    PROS: The true beginner disc.

CONS: If you became a professional player, you won't ever find a disc that will mean more to you then the Polecat did to a novice you.

I recently got into disc golf and this was the first disc if purchased. I noticed a friend of my had one and I gave it a couple tosses and I fell in love with it. I'm pretty comfortable throwing a Frisbee and the polecat felt pretty similar. Flies straight with minimal fade. I even use it as a midrange at times. I'm starting to expand my putting game now with recently adding a Wizard and an Aviar to my bag, but the polecat will be staying. If you're new to disc golf, I highly recommend bagging a Polecat.

    Plastic: DX

    Weight: 165g

Feel: This is a deep putter, and with a near vertical rim, it can prove difficult at first to grip properly (especially for driver).  When putting, a standard fan grip can actually be quite comfortable, and the mostly flat top plate provides a good contact point for your thumb.

Flight: This is a very slow putter, and one that will hold whatever angle it is given.  The Polecat will barely fight out of a turnover, and it will only slightly flip up on hyzer.  I found that when I tried to really juice this disc, that it would sometimes turnover right out of the hand, and I feel it is a grip issue of holding onto the deep, vertical rim rather than a true turnover.

Conclusion: As a true disc golf disc, I honestly can't really recommend the Polecat.  But because this is meant for ultra-beginners and converts from toss & catch discs, I can't say it doesn't accomplish that.  Even still, this disc can be prone to roll away, I assume due to its rim shape and weight distribution and is glidey enough to not be trusted into much wind.

Side note: A genuine use for this disc is for touch backhand or forehand shots that you want to float around some obstacle and finish slow and flat (but if it hits tree it will try to roll away).

The straightness of this putter is undeniable but it is most definitely not for everyone. The deep rim is unique to this putter and creates an awkward feel for many players. One very positive attribute of the Polecat is that you can easily manipulate the flight path to fit your shot need. I keep one in my bag and use it as a specialty disc for when I have a putt that requires a soft landing due to its great gliding attribute. It is also surprisingly useful for forearm shots that require a low straight gliding shot path (e.g. shooting from knees under a tree). In summary, it is not for everyone but the disc is cheap enough that it may be worth a try.

DX Polecat 175g - I was not a big fan of this disc as a putter. The super deep rim felt uncomfortable to me, which didn't suit my putting style. Whenever I tried to approach with this disc, I always flipped it over and felt like it couldn't stand any power. However, if you are searching for a low speed putter and feel comfortable with a deep rim, this putter will go straight and sink. If that's what you are looking for, then the polecat may be for you.

The Polecat was my second attempt at a consistent putter within 30ft and I love it!! I will now live and die by the flat top/deep dish style putter. Thing flies dead straight and hardly ever gives you nasty rolls. If you like deep rim putters its awesome, if you've never tried one - DO IT. Love my Polecat!

Just can't fall in love with this disc. If you are fan of a deep bucket-like rim you may love the polecat, or if you're switching from ultimate frisbee to disc golf, this may be a good choice for you. The polecat is the Zephyr's tiny cousin essentially. It is an extremely glidey disc that can go a fair distance, but it will punish you with incorrect form and will turn into a roller quickly. I simply don't see a beginner using this for approach shots. A "get in the basket" type disc for me. You are taking a gamble with this disc if you've never thrown one before as you will either love it or hate it. There seems to be many better putters on the market.

I have had a DX polecat 152g for about two years now.  The first putter I had ever purchased.  Got it at Walmart for 9$ or so.  Very nice disc to play catch with the family, also a very nice disc on the course for a nice straight shot with a soft landing.  A lot of the times looking at the basket from circles edge I will throw it just as if I were playing catch with my kids and sink it most of the time.  Gotta hit it dead center.  The wide rim seems to like to roll and glide off the side of the chains when hit. Keeps a great hyser and Annie as well.  Definitely has gotten me out of a few jams being stuck behind trees. Awesome disc for kids as well easy for them to throw and get some good glide distance.

The polecat to me only has one use. It's a utility disc in hilly wooded courses. If I need an approach shot that is super straight, through a tight group of trees. Its polecat time. If I need to approach on a basket that either has a drop off next to it, or is on a steep hill. Its polecat time. But besides that there's tons of better putters out there. Not a bad disc but not the worst

The Polecat (cool name) is an okay disc. I think of it more as a warmup / catch frisbee. It is shaped like a smaller version of an ultimate frisbee disc, and flies like one too. I don't love the feel of this disc, but perhaps because I wasn't much of a frisbee player growing up.

Flight: It flies super straight. It also flies super slow. It's it's like an ultimate disc in it's flying. You can put it on a hyzer or anhyzer and it just slowly glides to the ground holding that position. It generally lands flat.

Uses: This would be a good approach disc from 175ft. and in. It flies slow and lands soft, so if you're accurate, you can drop it right in there by the basket. I don't recommend it for putting due to the feel, but that is a personal opinion. This would be a good disc for those transitioning from ultimate to disc golf.

Summary: Overall, I would not recommend this disc. I would spend time getting used to more traditional feeling disc golf discs and how they fly. Could be a fun disc to toss around, but not for competitive playing of disc golf.

I was very skeptical about the Polecat at first, I've heard about how straight the flight is but the feel in the hand was just weird every time I would pick one up.  One day I decided to just get one and try it, Its only $8 for the DX so its not going to break the bank.  I was surprised.  Once I got used to how the disc felt in the hand it was a really solid approach disc.  Its very point and shoot.  The one I purchased had a pretty flat top, very slight dome and it was max weight.  I threw it on backhand approaches, backhand drives and forehand approaches.  It worked quite well for those touchy forehand shots that need to just finish straight.  This isn't a disc that is going to make my bag since I already carry a nova for my straight approaches and putter drives but it is still a good disc in its own right.  Don't let the goofy name deter you from trying one out.  I ended up giving this disc to my friend to try and oddly enough it made his bag and he uses it for touchy forehand approaches, short forehand rollers and other get out of trouble type of shots.

If you like throwing lids, this disc will be a nice transition for you. This thing is extremely slow flying, straight, and very glidey. I really did not click with this disc, but I know many who can carve up the course with a Polecat. If you like the feel, give it a try.

If you haven't tried a Polecat, you probably need to give it a go. It's a slow floaty, but not super glidy disc, and can hold a line really well, even if it's so slow that it isn't super long. They will really hold whatever line, but not really want to turn or fade very much.

Just about anyone could use one for approaches, but don't try to putt with it the flat outer wall doesn't catch the chains well.

Very fun disc, it's great for catch warm ups as well.

Go to putter for a few months now. Had an ion, but didn't enjoy the hard fade at the end of a longer putt. This thing just flies dead straight. I often use it on holes 200-300 feet as well. When thrown with a hard flick, it will fly dead straight for a long time!

Although I don't like the chalky feel of the plastic, I used to putt with the polecat and it was alright, but I have since moved away.I have a DX 172g polecat that is slightly warped from being beaten in. The reason it is in my bag is for when I am outside my max putting distance, I'll basically toss this like a frisbee right at the basket, it actually isn't uncommon for me to make shots from as far as 40 to 50ft. Usually I'll miss, but the disc will land pretty close to the basket and thanks to the relatively tall rim and plastic it will sit and stay put rather than skip/skid away. It's not a great disc, but it also isn't terrible. It works just fine for approaches that would be overkill with a midrange. It's a very good approach putter, I can't comment on driving with it, but it does fly straight. It also comes out of my bag for short anhyzer shots around trees, as it will quickly flatten out and fly dead straight, it's an odd flight pattern you have to experience yourself. If put on a more severe anhyzer it will hold it for a quick second before flattening out and dropping like a rock straight down. Clearly, it comes in handy for some odd shots every now and then and for that the polecat has a spot reserved in my bag.

The polecat was one of my first discs when I started playing disc golf regularly. I got it at Walmart once I decided I should use my own discs instead of borrowing from my friends every round. The polecat is basically a regular frisbee. I am sure it would be great for playing catch. As a beginner, it is pretty much a perfect disc. It flies straight, and if you misfire it isnt going to go that far. Once mine started to beat up and once my throw started getting more powerful, I decided I had moved past the polecat. I would definitely recommend this to anybody starting to get into the sport of disc golf.

The Polecat is a straight flying putt and approach disc perfect for people who come from a background in Ultimate, Freestyle, or even a backyard game of catch. It is a straight flying disc made in a comfortable, grippy plastic. This putter is great for short drives and approaches as it takes and holds the angle of release regardless of speed. A great choice for pros and beginners, as it works well with all putting styles.
