Like some others I have used various colts and I can attest that they are probably one of the more versatile putters on the market. Out of the gate I want to highly recommend if you get a colt and it has raised center of the flight plate to take some hot (but not boiling water) and flat top the disc Google it if you are not sure, the colt really performs better when its top is perfectly flat. I'll split this review up into 2 parts, putting and throwing. For reference the colts I own are:
2 XT prototype colts: these are more like a cross of xt and dx they are not overly stiff like the newer run of XT colt, they are slightly more stable overall as well and suit my putting game inside the circle.
2 XT stock run colts: these are for throwing and outside the circle putts, this run is a bit tackier and more like normal XT as it's come to be known. These are slightly less stable overall and are excellent for touch shots.
1 Star Colt: this admittedly is my least favorite variant of the colt as it seems to be caught between being stable and understable but it makes for a decent driving putter with fantastic glide.
For putting the Proto Colt's are definitely better feeling in the hand and more predictable in the wind they have a very shallow feel which makes them very comfortable for my spin style putt, outside the circle the slightly understable nature of the stock runs makes them ideal candidates for jump putts. Like most putting putters I say it is 90% feel in hand and the rest comes down to performance but I found myself feeling more confident with the longer range putts having a putter that is very straight flying.
As far as throwing goes the Stock Run XT and the Star Colt have an extremely neutral flight they will go laser straight on a smooth throw especially at lower arm speeds. At my armspeed I can get them to carve lines in the woods very well with a slow late flip on a smooth flat release and a nice late hyzer flip on a more powerful throw. I also use these extensively for upshots and for touch anhyzers and the disc will really hold just about any line you put it on with decent reliability.
As far as wind performance goes the Colt suffers in headwind situations since it does not necessarily respond well to the increased speed and lift it can be very unpredictable and as such you really want to make sure you have another disc that can handle this shot for you. Tailwind situations seem to work well as you can throw the disc flat and it will definitely fly the way you it would if you gave it some hyzer.
The Colt is a fantastic disc for beginners as it is very neutral and very forgiving and since it is highly versatile you can use it for everything right off the bat.
Overall the Colt is a mold that probably get's looked over among the litany of other putters out there from Innova, It is a mold that is very workable and it's very shallow feel makes it comfortable for most people. If you haven't tried one I would strongly recommend looking into one.
