The Star Ape offers a slightly grippier feel than Champion with a bit more glide, while maintaining the high-speed overstability that defines the mold. The Innova Star Ape is a go-to for power forehands, overstable backhands, and skip shots that finish hard and fast.

This disc is crazy overstable and requires a big arm.  I was able to get some big flex lines and think this could be a good option for a utility distance driver slot.  I just think there are other discs out there that are better options for that slot.  It may be the perfect disc for someone with 450+ power.

There's not much to say about the Ape other than this factoid: when Ezra was an open bag player, he bagged a Star Ape as his most overstable driver. I think that speaks volumes about this disc's stability.

I rely heavily on my forehand, and this disc has been indispensable to me. I can torque it really hard and it will always come out of it. I use it as a utility driver more than a go-to distance driver. It's the best disc I have found for a few specific shots.

    1. Going for big distance into a headwind without worrying about turning it over.

    2. Distance control. When I need something to fade before it reaches a bank of trees, usually around 250-300 ft. I know I can throw it hard and it will still hyzer out of it by that point so I don't have to worry about it going straight into the woods.

    3. Low skip shots around a corner at 200-300 ft.

    4. Downhill shots. I can throw it hard and it will hold a baby hyzer the whole way, when most discs would straighten up or turn over with that amount of speed.

You need a lot of power to throw this disc. It's probably going to be most useful for forehands, though some guys may have a big enough backhand to use it for spike hyzers and such. My backhand is mediocre, so the ape is useless to me as a backhand disc.

I don't go anywhere without my Ape. Yeah, it's comically overstable, but when I need a wind-buster, this is my disc. The only time it flirted with flipping over? Throwing a 400 foot drive into a 30MPH headwind. This thing is a beast, definitely not good for the average disc golfer, outside of a utility role. One of my favorites though.

Great disc for Forehand players going into a headwind.  The fade on it is a bit aggressive so it's harder to throw backhand at my arm speed level.  It took me a while to learn this disc but it is one that I can trust when the situation calls.  Top 5 disc in my bag and would recommend if you need an overstable disc.

This disc is incredibly overstable! Crazy hyzer spike shots with this disc. I got this disc early on in my disc golf "legacy." It holds lines very well in the wind and almost always keeps that super reliable strong finish.

In order for this disc to really work well, you need to be strong! Not necessarily a friendly beginner disc... at least for long throws. Beginners will likely find that this disc doesn't want to go anywhere and likely just fades hard left on all of their backhands.

While it takes some strength, the Star Ape is one of my favorite drivers for long spike hyzer throws. I also use it for any sharp turns or technical tree throws (if necessary).

I prefer the Star plastic, but Innova's Champion plastic is also great for this disc.

Would recomend to intermediate and advanced power throwers.

I throw a pretty strong forehand and thought this would be a good disc for flex shots and long drives. Boy did I underestimate this disc. It is easily the most overstable disc I have thrown. It fades hard even when I put in full power. This does however make it extrememly reliable in any situation. While I don't use it how I thought I would, I still bag it and use for certain technical shots and with strong headwinds. Would recommend for a utility disc more than anything else.

I picked one of these up when the were released and didn't really work for me. I gave it to my buddy who liked them a lot. It didn't feel good in my hand.

This is the most overstable disc I've ever thrown. I don't care how big your arm is these will never turn and burn on you. I use mine rhfh, thrown anhyzer out to the left of an obstacle, and watch it come back hard to the right and crash back to earth. This is more of a utility driver than a distance driver to me. Headwind fighter too.

She's a stubborn mule that's always in my bag.. This is my go-to forehand disc. If you've got a strong side arm and need a disc that you can really put some torque into and not worry about turning over, do yourself a favor and get an ape... also a great headwind disc.

I tried out the Star Ape today, and it was exactly what would be expected. It flies just like a regular Ape, just in a different feeling plastic. I actually prefer the Star Ape to the Champion Ape, but that is just a personal preference.

I would suggest using the Ape in incredibly strong headwinds. This disc can handle almost any amount of power, and is designed to be extremely fast and overstable. The Star Ape offers better grip to its champion counterpart, so it may be a better option in wetter conditions.

Overall I like the Star Ape. The only reason one doesn't make it into my bag is because it's just too overstable for my arm. The discs are consistent and the flight is predictable. Try one out today!

Update: I tried out the Star Ape at close to sea level, and I really like it!! It is overstable, but I can get it to fly straight before hooking hard at the end. I may keep a Star Ape in the bag for windy drives down here at sea level.
