The DX Ape provides a softer grip and faster beat-in period than premium versions, gradually becoming more workable with use. While initially overstable, the Innova DX Ape becomes more versatile for long turnovers or controlled S-curves as it wears in.

I can't give a very helpful review of the Innova Ape because there is no reason I should be throwing one. But I bought one before I started playing disc golf after reading a few reviews and articles, thinking I needed a distance driver and this one wouldn't be affected by wind. I thought using a faster disc made for more advanced players would help me get better, similar to how playing other sports with better players forces you to improve. It didn't take me long to understand I was wrong about everything except maybe the Ape being OK in the wind. But maybe I can save you $9-$20 with this advice: if you just started playing disc golf and are not able to throw a fairway driver over 300 feet then you really don't need an Ape. Sorry I have no helpful information for advanced players who can actually do something productive with this disc.

The DX Plastic is Very understable! I was needing to replace a Nuke OS and decided the Ape seemed Beefy enough to be a similar disc. It very well may be but not in the DX plastic. I ordered a couple DX plastic Apes to try them and after getting them I threw one RHBH and it turned over in its flight landing to the right like you would expect an overstable flick. It did not turn and burn though just flew right the whole way. I threw again with less power and it flew more straight with a tiny fade at the end. Id estimate the flight numbers as more of a 13 5 -2 1 for the DX version of the Ape. I will still use these but more as a turnover hyzer flip disc. This could work as a decent high speed disc for beginners.

DX is not a true Ape

I got to throw a DX Ape today and I very much did not enjoy it. A good buddy of mine has been throwing Apes forever, so I am well aware of what their flight is supposed to be: crazy overstable, fast and not much glide. The DX iteration of the Ape is only mildly overstable, is fast, and has a ton of glide.

Thrown flat, I got a ton of turn out of the DX Ape. Keep in mind, this was a fresh DX Ape. The fade was still strong, and dropped out of the sky rather than penetrating forward. It does a weird sort of S-Curve when thrown flat, but will hold the hyzer line when given. The DX Ape is an odd disc...I can't honestly reccomend it.

I decided to try out a DX Ape, and I can say it is definitely not an ape. I lined up a 340' hyzer with a mandatory slightly in play on the right of the fairway. I threw medium power hyzer release, and the DX Ape flipped over, missed the mandatory, and would have started rolling if it were not for the dense foliage. After a few more tries with the DX Ape, It is just too understable for how fast it is meant to be thrown. That being said, this disc could be great for people with lower arm speed that are trying to find a faster disc. If you are a professional throwing more than 450', I would stay away from the DX Ape and enjoy the powerful overstability of the Champion Ape. The DX Ape was silly, and I cannot wait to try rollers with it.
