    Sword 160g VIP AIR

Most of my discs are lighter weight and understable and I was missing a dependable overstable disc in my bag but I didn't want a meat hook. Looking at the numbers for the Sword as well as some videos, I thought it would fit the bill but the VIP Air version at 160g is still a little understable for me, even though I max out at around 300 feet. I can't say that I'm disappointed though because this is an amazing disc for distance and is now my farthest flying driver. This disc really gets out there with not too much turn or fade. The rim measures around 21mm which is a very comfortable width for me. VIP Air is fairly grippy for a C-line type plastic. I like the Sword graphic and the bright orange color of the plastic makes it easy to find. Not quite what I was looking for as far as stability goes, but I'm still super happy I got it! I would rate it as 12, 6, -1.5, 1.5 in VIP AIR. Stronger throwers will get the same lines as me in the heavier more overstable VIP and Tournament versions and will likely get much more distance. I saw a video comparing the Sword to the Royal Grace and they flew pretty much identically, with the Sword having slightly less fade. If you want a Grace but don't like the hefty price tag or no one has it in stock, go for the Sword at half the price! Get two! I was going to give it 4 stars instead of 5 just because the numbers are off, but this has turned out to be a fabulous disc for me.

    VIP Air Sword

This review will be primarily for the Air Sword, but I will offer my thoughts on 3 different plastics for a comparison. The Air Sword is a bomber. It glides and glides and is easy distance. I would give it a 4.5, but that isn't an option. The reason for the 4.5 is that definitely more understable than the numbers suggest. For reference, I typically throw around 340 but will occasionally push out closer to 400. This disc is a great turnover and hyzer flip disc for easy distance. If your form is decent, this is the easiest disc I have ever thrown to go 300.

The VIP is closer to the given numbers. Mine is 171 and I would go 12 / 5 / -1 / 1.5. A low flat release of 325 will offer a very slight turn that fades back to center. Very controllable and a solid driver. Mine has a pretty good dome and a nice glide.

The Tournament is between the Air and Opto in stability. For my 175, it is the sweet spot. Throw with a slight hyzer and it flips up with a very slight continuous turnover that ends straight. Add a lttle more hyzer and it is laser straight. Throw it high and it will fade out nice at the end. Great option if you cannot throw the more stable 12 speed discs.

Phenomenal disc. Get the heavy one because it stays straight for a long time. I didn't expect to like it, but it does indeed work as a straight on stable disc.

I loved this disc so much that I had to give a VIP Air disc a try.  What I found was the air disc is more overstable than the normal disc, by a lot.  With my max weight sword, I can BH and get a little turn out of it before it fades out.  The air plastic disc is a meathook.  It fades right away, and if I get any turn, it's because I force it over.

This makes the disc a little interesting on when to bring it out.  Air plastic is typically for calm or tailwind shots, but with as overstable as this disc flies, it's tough to find a time for me to use it.  I think this would be a great overstable disc for someone with not as strong of an arm.  Something that will finish hard left, but for me, I can easily use a max weight disc and get the same result.

I'm hoping this disc will beat in to a more understable flight that I can push out a little further than a normal sword, it's just not there yet.

The Sword is just at the edge of my ability to get it up to speed, but it really shines in the Air model. My first go round I was torquing and OATing the hell out of it, to no avail - coming back to the Air with improved form, wow, it bombs. Probably one of the discs I can throw farthest consistently. Not beefy, not flippy, just right.

The Sword VIP Air is a great lightweight distance driver for those that might be just a smidge below 12 speed. The sword is a 12 speed, but the VIP Air plastic is very lightweight so you usually can get a disc around 150g, which in turn allows you to get more speed out of it. The VIP Air plastic was very bright compared to its Tournament burst counterpart, which made finding it a lot easier. The disc itself flies very very straight!
