The Ursus is an overstable mid/approach disc that is made to fly straight and have a consistent overstable finish at the end of its flight. This disc has a thin profile and bead that will be comfortable for forehands and backhands. The Ursus is made to simplify that treacherous 150 to 300 foot approach. It’s torque resistant enough to not flip while not being ridiculously overstable at the same time.

Such a great mold from Zach at Terminal Velocity.

Synopsis: Unique, overstable midrange that’s great for backhands and forehands.

Uses: I primarily use it for forehands, as it’s the only midrange that is stable enough to withstand a full power forehand, while not being too OS to be useful.  I bag 3 separate Ursus’:

    1 Beat-In Glass Ursus - Least Stable

1 Newer Glass Ursus - Medium Stability

1 Calcite Glow Ursus - Most Stable

Comparisons: The rim feels Roc-esque, but the disc is flatter than a Roc.  My buddies have all compared the stability to a justice, but I believe it’s way more useful than the justice.  I’ve bagged Zones, A2’s, A3’s, Gators, Tactics, Mutants, and more OS mids/approach discs, but the Ursus embodies all of my favorite features of those molds.

The overstable midrange you've been looking for. The Ursus features a large bead, moderately shallow rim, and a mild dome. It is quite comfortable in the hand, even with the large bead, and glide on this disc will surprise you, pending you threw it with enough power. The plastic is an absolute dream being the perfect balance of grip, durability, and flexibility. The Glass plastic is similar to that of Champion (translucent, durable, and overstable) but is a bit more textured, making it grippier in almost every condition, and a touch more flexible. On forehand, this disc can handle any amount of torque and will always fade, regardless of the release angle.

If you're in the market for a dependable overstable midrange for both backhand and forehand, look no further.

The Ursus was everything I've wanted in an overstable approach disc! It's thin feel in the hand feels natural, and has the glide of a fairway driver while keeping it's dependable fade at the end.  While I don't have the strongest forehand, this is the first <5 speed that I can get out to 250' thrown on a rope.  This has quickly made the Ursus one of the most used discs in my bag and my forehand approach disc for essentially every second shot in the fairway.  I'm also finding myself reaching more and more for this disc backhand as it has a lot of forward pushing fade, yet won't flip over on me.

So I have been looking for a midrange that i can throw forehand for a while now. Well I can now stop my search. The Ursus is it. This disc is super torque resistant and for me who does not have the greatest forehard really helps. when thrown flat it rides straight for most of the flight and then fades hard.

The Ursus is no one trick pony though. Its a backhand beast as well. When you first hold it you can feel the stability in the disc. Its a lot of disc in hand. As soon as it leaves you hand it starts to fade. but it does not feel like a brick when thrown, it has surprisingly good glide to it. It also comes out fast, almost feels like a speed 6. Flex lines are going to be great with it as well.

On to the plastic, the Glass plastic feels absolutely amazing. It has some give to it but by no means is it gummy. You can really sink your hand into it. Being in the NE and having thrown it in the snow the grip was still there after it got wet and wiping it off.

So in conclusion if you are looking for a mid that is built to flick but offers so much more than the Ursus is that disc. After just a few throws i knew it would go right into my bag. I bet it will for you too!

I'm not normally a fan of beaded mid ranges but the shape of the rim and the plastic just feel like something totally new and unique, which is exactly what it is. This thing has a ton of fade but balances it out with a perfect amount of glide. This can take bag spots ranging from everything to something like a Zone/Tactic/Pig all the way to something like a Gator/MD5. It's like a utility disc and a staple at the same time.

Glidey Beef. At first grip the Ursus really fills the palm of the hand. It feels like a lot of disc. And it is. It has a faster profile than most mid range discs on the market and a slower profile than most fairway drivers. It fits comfortably between the two.

The plastic is grippy and somewhat flexible, but not too gummy. There is plenty of stiffness to it at the same time. It’s just right.

Thrown at lower speeds, this disc wants to fade as it leaves the finger tips. Which is great for utility upshot’s and fast breaks around corners or trees and it will even skip quite a bit.

Regular speeds for a mid: this disc will carry straight for about 50% of the flight and then just absolutely dump into a fade. But it stays in the air for a surprisingly long time. That’s why I say glidey beef.

When thrown on an anhyzer this disc will fight out and fight out quick.

It has really good torque resistance so it is quite forgiving when it comes to poor angle of release.

I recommend this disc to anyone wanting a solid work horse in their midrange game. This disc adds distance to the OS mid slot and is undeniably overstable.

This disc is an OS beast! Throwing backhand it shreds hyzer line into big winds. Produces great skip. Throwing forehand, the disc is incredibly torque resistant. The only mid range I can throw as hard as my Firebird and go where I want it to. If you are looking for an OS mid range with great plastic, look no further. You will be incredibly happy with this disc in your bag. After every shot, you just might say "should have thrown in an Ursus!"
