Great Putting Putter, Looks Great as Well

The Ruru is my wife's favorite putting putter. She is pretty lights out with it and is proud to throw it. We both find it fun to putt with non-mainstream putters, and at this point, I don't think she would throw any other putter. RPM disc graphics are cool, and we both love their plastics.

I found my throwing putter. RPM plastic feels SO GOOD in the hand and I love it specifically for throwing the Ruru off the tee. I use Atomic plastic for mine. I can put a full rip on it and it's not going to turn over. It will flip up and ride straight before fading at the end. I'm also starting to explore jump putting with it and getting some nice results. Love the Ruru.

The mold is very similar to a Dagger, but in much better plastic. I have four Rurus, three in Atomic and one in Cosmic. All are amazing, although there are several differences between them.

    - Cosmic: the Cosmic Ruru is rather and fills the hand well. The plastic is stiff, grippy and very durable.

    - Atomic: my dark blue Atomic Ruru is a very flat one, it has a iridescent luster effect and streaks similar to GStar.

    - Atomic: my two putting putters are light blue Rurus with a small lighter swirl and a shimmer stamp. They don't have any luster and are stiffer than the dark blue one. Also very flat.

Atomic is my preference because of the flatness and grip. I don't throw these off the tee as the small bead adds wobble.

I tried to like this disc.  Amazing stamp.  However, super slick plastic and huge rim.  Like throwing an ultimate disc.  Best served as an approach disc.  I'd go with a westside swan for understable or dynamic judge for stable putter.

It's been almost a year since I bagged the Atomic RuRu and I have just ordered 6 more. Three in Atomic and three in Magma.

I absolutely love this disc as an approach putter. My original Atomic RuRu is trusted to hold the line I put it on and will have a slight fade at higher speeds and a much stronger fade at slower speeds. I regularly park this disc on approach shots. I have had many, many long approach throw ins.

During the past year, I did buy the Magma version of the RuRu. The feel is completely different in terms of the plastic type. A bit more grippy and soft - very similar to SSSS plastic from Gateway. This disc has also found a place in my bag as a very predictable understable approach putter.

When I have an anhyzer approach shot lined up I am frequently grabbing my Magma RuRu. I can depend on it to hold the line at high and slow speeds. Slower speeds will see a slight s-curve finish. Higher speeds will see a full turn. Over powering the disc will result in it's attempt to turn roller.

I use my Magma on the 120-150ft anhyzer approach distances frequently and I am rewarded with parking the basket. This disc is frequently thrown in from long distances as well.

I am an intermediate division player, currently rated at 906. I have a mixed bag of Innova and Discmania discs. However, the RuRu has pushed out my Aviar and P2 approach discs.

    Flight

For beginners without much arm speed this is a great midrange/putting disc. For everyone else it requires a good deal of touch to get the most out of the Ruru.

I don't believe anyone who says they can use this as a driving putter. The Ruru is great for holding approach anhyzers and no-fade putts. Up to 200 feet this disc is the straightest thing you'll ever throw, although it might require a bit of a hyzer flip or throwing slightly nose up. However, too much power or a rolled wrist and this disc will turn with no chance of fighting back.

I have had a lot of luck throwing it on a high anhyzer and watching it struggle to fight back to flat all the way to the basket. It usually lands with plop and doesn't roll at all.

    Handling

I have this in the Atomic plastic. And although I'd like the disc in particular to be a bit stiffer out of the hand, RPM's Atomic plastic is unrivaled in feel and aesthetics. Atomic plastic is a slightly softer and more flexible version of Star plastic, but not nearly as bendy as G-Star. I'd imagine it to be just as durable as Star plastic as well.

    Aesthetics

The look of RPM plastic is stunning though. Most Atomic molds usually incorporate a subtle swirl of two colors, and mine appears to have an almost metallic sheen quality on the surface. It's absolutely gorgeous and more companies should take note of the stamp art as well. Looks: 10/10

This is not a driving putter for me. I use it as an approach disc and it fills a spot in my bag as my new go to approach.

    tl;dr

Great approach, grippy plastic, reliable flight and awesome stamp. I recommend.

    Flight Characteristics

Hyzer approach with a nice finish is my preferred line with the RuRu. Placing on an anhyzer - at the power I throw - the disc will come back left.

The glide on the RuRu is very good too. As the disc travels it has a very nice predictable descent and when it hits the ground there isn't much skip. It hits the ground pretty flat and at this point doesn't seem highly susceptible to roll away - which I like.

I find that within 120 feet of the basket throwing at 60 to 70% drive speed is the perfect combination for this disc. It allows for a ton of control and engages the strong fade at the end.

Putting a ton of power into this disc will turn it over. So if you have a line that requires it this disc will turn and hold the line.

    Plastic

The Atomic plastic is grippy - but not overly tacky - and in my first few rounds with it appears to be quite durable. At the time of my order on Infinite Discs there were not that many choices. My disc is a brown metal flake.

It looks really cool in the sunlight. But I would like some choices in brighter colors. I am one of those players that goes bright orange, electric green and hot pinks to aid in finding my discs. My local course is regularly overgrown and the rough gets knee high on a regular.

    Stamp

I am not familiar with the wild life in New Zealand. But this stamp is one of the coolest I have seen on any disc. My disc golf buddies all dig it too. You will get compliments on this one.

    Overall Recommendation

For the player looking for an approach disc that you can smooth (not power) throw and get a good flight with a reliable fade finish. This disc is for you.

I bag this disc and have used it to win rounds.

The Ruro Ruru is just a solid all purpose putt and approach discs. I used a 166g Ruru and really liked it as a putting putter, I hit a lot of long putts with it, and it is also a fantastic putter for driving and approach shots. It's a straight flyer and works well for finesse shots.

Does this disc do anything better than dozens of other putters with the same flight ratings, no, but some of these discs are really pretty, and if a good looking disc increases your confidence to land in and near the basket, then I highly recommend the RPM Ruro.
