The Kea is a small-diameter, overstable midrange disc. It is a great choice for short, accurate, predictable drives off the tee or for upshots when you need to fight wind and hit the green with ease. It is also a perfect choice for forehand drives and power backhand throws.

Was gifted a Glow. Please forgive me comparing to Innova, but that's what I have mostly and everyone knows them. This disc fit perfectly between my Champion Roc3 and Star Toro. The bead is almost identical to the Roc3. The edge is very similar to the Toro, but a little flatter vs the Toro rounding a bit. The glow plastic is very similar to some Glow Champion discs I have. Not as stiff as Champion and not as grippy as Star. This maybe the perfect disc for my forehand. My Toro is max 225, my Roc3 on max power is dead straight. This disc can be forehanded to 300 and still get that 25-30 ft dependable fade and 0 skip. This is a par 3 Ace hyzer beast. The disc glides way more than 3, it doesn't climb, but stays in the air pushing forward before the dependable fade.

This thing is awesome! The Kea is a very overstable, Zone, Tactic, Harp category approach disc. Before throwing this, I have been throwing Zones in a variety of plastics. This has the stability of a softer, or straighter Zone. Pushes really well, and just dumps at the end of its flight.

The feel is very unique. I would compare it more to the Innova Gator in some senses. It has that unique blunt nose of the Gator, and the same bead. The feel of the small diameter adds a bit of the Robbie C. self conscious confidence. What makes it different than a lot of the other molds is its depth as well. It is a rather shallow disc, but fills the hand really well. For me, it fits perfectly for forehand and backhand, where the other approach discs were too tall for one throw or the other, or just didn't fill the hand properly. If you're looking for something like your overstable approach disc but is something nobody else bags, I would highly recommend this guy.

Also it whistles on fluttery throws which is really neat

It's a zone. The grip is better than a zone though. The rim is slightly different to a zone's  This is a very good approach disc. It is predictable even in high winds. Get this disc.

This disc knocked the drone out my bag! Very unique beaded rim that I find very comfortable. The smaller diameter is also very comfortable for me.

This thing handles power with ease and can rip it and get 300 or so before a consistent fade. It’s not absolute meathook gross overstable, but is definitely extremely stable. Great for flicks! It definitely has some glide but doesn’t get pushed around too much by wind

The Atomic plastic is absolutely stellar, it’s like older star/esp, the good stuff

I carry it along as my overstable/wind fighter mid with a straight and under stable mid

This disc has a great feel and is true to the numbers.  Love it for forehand and backhand shots.   Straight flight with a reliable fade at the end.

Update: My new nickname for this disc is dumpy because it dumps so hard at the end of its flight path. I thought it had some glide at first, but it does not. It handles my forehands nicely and I love that it doesn't flip on me no matter what.

I had received a Prototype Kea from Simon at RPM discs in their Atomic plastic. This version was totally solid, and not see through at all. I had been expecting more of something along the lines of a standard over-stable mid-range, so when I first got the disc I was a bit surprised. The disc shape did appear kind of odd to me with a domey center that flattens out a bit before coming to a very blunt edge. There is also a rather large bead on this disc. It was, however, exceptionally comfortable for me. The flat portion before the edge allows my thumb to fit comfortably, and consistently each time. After throwing it for a few rounds it replaced my Harp, and when the release came out I got an Atomic and a Magma. The current release Atomic plastic is more along the lines of a champion/star mix, whereas the prototype is closer to star. The grip is fantastic, the look is amazing and the flight is great. As other's have stated, I use this as more of a utility putter/short mid-range rather than a regular mid-range. It will fly very straight regardless of headwind, and will always fight and fade at the end. It makes a great into-the-wind putting putter as well. If you've thrown their Magma blend in the Ruru you will find that this is stiffer, and doesn't quite have that rubbery feel to it. The only reason I give it 4 stars is I feel like it belongs more in the putter class than the mid-range class.

This disc is very different from other mids I have tried in the past.  The shape and feel of the disc is almost more or a putter/utility disc.  The disc is definitely overstable but also fluttered out of my hand, making it hard to be consistent with.  I would say that this disc is not a beginner friendly disc.  I will try it again in the future, but for now I prefer my MD3.

This is my first RPM disc so I just want to start off by saying how amazing the atomic plastic is! It is right in between Innova's Star and Champion plastics. It is a little bit slippery like the champion, and grippy like the star. It is also has metal flakes in it I think to make it look extra pretty.

As for the disc itself, It's honestly the weirdest molded disc I have ever felt. Not a bad weird though, just different. The tribal art Kea stamp looks amazing as well. It has a domey pop top but the edge is very flat like the picture shows. The rim has an enormous bead on it. It feels really great forehand because my thumb sort of naturally falls into the crease of the edge and the dome. I'm sure its great backhand too, but I haven't thrown it much backhand yet.

This disc does exactly what I want it to. It has a very stable, consistent flight path. I use this disc dominantly forehand for about 180-250 foot shots that end in a small hyzer (RHFH). For me, it goes pretty straight and then falls right near the end. It has quite a bit of glide to it so it is easy to get a decent amount of distance out of it. I used to have a mortar, so i would compare it to that. It also feels like a longer harp, which is perfect for me.

Definitely not a beginner disc because it is so stable. Go with a mako3 for a beginner mid range.

Overall, I am very happy with my Kea and I'm going to have to try out some more RPM discs in the future.

This disc reminds me a lot of a Prodigy A1 or A2, but with a pretty big bead at the bottom of it's blunt nose rim. As far as flight goes, this is your typical overstable, smaller diameter, approach disc. Like a Zone or Harp- which are awesome discs. The Kea, though, was a little harder for me to release right on target due to the rim. For some reason I just couldn't always get it to work without grip locking a little. However, I could have had a bad day, so I'm going to keep trying it.

The plastic from RPM is always incredible. The grip, beauty, and durability is always up there with the best in the world. I'm excited to keep working with this disc!

The KEA is an excellent addition to the RPM Discs arsenal, adding an overstable mid-range to compliment their straight-flying Piwakawaka. This disc fits right in with a lot of very popular "approach disc" and "mid-range" crossovers. It has a smaller diameter than most mid-range discs, thus taking it into that hybrid niche. It has a relatively flat top and a very comfortable, beaded rim that is wide enough to handle a little more power. I would compare it to popular approach discs like the Innova Gator, Innova Rat, Hyzer Bomb Mortar, Discraft Zone, or some of the excellent Prodigy "A" series discs. It has a great feel for both backhand and forehand, and it has enough stability to hold a line and then finish with a marked fade. It would make an excellent wind-fighter as well.

Though I wouldn't recommend it as a first mid-range for a new player (go for the Piwakawaka for that), it wouldn't be a bad disc for newer players who want to get a feel for more overstable discs that don't necessarily require a high-speed release. But it will definitely be a perfect addition to the bag of any intermediate or experienced player. Though I threw the KEA in Atomic plastic, I really like the grippy (tackier) feel of the Magma plastic and am tempted to pick up one of those as well. Five stars for the RPM KEA!

    Fantastic Disc!

I found this replaced my Tournament Harp as it is a bit faster with a slight more glide. I use it for a super consistent 80-90m (260-295ft) straight shot with a consistent fade at the end RHBH.  This a great disc for Intermediate - Advanced players for this type of shot or for forehand flicks. I just love it because I know I can really rip on it and put it in that range every time RHBH.

Some of the guys I play with, (with slower arm speeds) use it as a disc they know will go left RHBH, and forehand up shots.

If you have not thrown an RPM disc before I highly suggest this one, as the plastics are great, and designs super cool!
